The W212 E63S AMG is by far the most reliable and fun car I’ve ever owned.I’ve owned 2 now and will be on the market soon… loved them so much I’m considering going back.
I can personally vouch for the MDX. Specifically, the 2nd gen (2007-2013) with the 3.7L J37A1 SOHC v6 engine and SH-AWD system. We bought it with 118k mi and now have 195k mi on the odo. The timing belt was replaced at around 130k mi, along with both front CV axles and an oil leak was addressed. Since then, I've just replaced brakes, the starter, and an electric door module. This car still has the original COPs and spark plugs. It still runs like a champ and can really get up to speed without issue. The 3.7L v6 is a very good powerplant for a vehicle this size. The trans fluid change is similar to an engine oil change. It's literally just a drain and fill procedure taking 30min at most. Just use genuine Honda automatic trans fluid and you'll be fine. The A/C went out at around 175k mi, but I was able to repair that relatively easily. The SH-AWD system is very offroad capable. It's no rock crawler, but it can navigate most trails. Just don't try to cross a mud bog, or expect Jeep level suspension travel. But it defeats the diagonal slip test. I haven't had any issues with the AWD system. This vehicle is awesome in the snow. Overall, I work on this vehicle less than any of the others I have. It's also our only family vehicle. Highly recommended for those who still do their own auto maintenance and want a dependable luxury SUV platform that can also trail on occasion. As far as the video is concerned. I have heard very good things about the B58 engine. It is an I6, which would be easy to work on theoretically. It can make big power that's for sure. I'm more concerned about the rest of the vehicle though. This is a BMW afterall. The RX350 is very reliable. Perhaps the most reliable on this list. Same with the Cayenne. At least 1st gen with NA 4.5l and 4.8L V8 models. Not sure about the V6 and TT models. I don't understand this distain for timing belts. I've had them on all my cars. I've changed them on all my cars. They're relatively easy to get to, in Hondas, you'll change them when you change your water pump. On my Nissan hardbody, I changed the timing belt with the change of my water pump. With 115k mi and 29yrs, the belt didn't even look like it needed to be replaced. IMO, a belt beats a long chain. No plastic tensioners that disintegrate over time. No chain stretch that distorts timing. Or sprocket wear from oil starvation. I've only had one belt snap and I had it coming. I had a non-interference engine so I didn't even care. I replaced it in 2hrs. These belts are behind timing covers. No RTV, no oil, no chain guides. No double or triple chain combos. Just one belt. Give me a belt-timed Honda over a chain-timed Audi any day of the week. It's a 75k-100k mi change that takes 2hrs on average. 3-4 if the water pump is also changed. Unless you're running an OHV pushrod engine, a belt just makes better sense. I prefer a timing belt, but maybe I'm the only one. Anyway, great video. It's a well compiled list. Thanks for listening. Cheers.

I daily drive an F32 435i (N55) and my wife has a Q5 with the 2.0T. Great reliable cars. After 20 years of owning 10+ German vehicles, i learned that keeping up with maintenance is the #1 key.
@@AtownCangri If you think "maintenance" keeps German cars reliable, you are full of crap. Here are some facts: 1. German cars are designed to last the warranty period, and fail after that--FACT. 2. After that they are money pits. $4K to replace a thermostat in an Audi, $6K to fix a Mercedes convertible top, same to repair air/hydro suspensions that leak. Turbos that fail, fuel injectors that fail, cheap bio-degradable plastic parts that crack after 5 years, bio-degradable wiring that rots after 10 years........Gimmie a break dude. 3. In dash electronics, body hardware, electrical, fuel system, leaks, climate systems, steering racks, NONE of these can be "maintained". They either work or do not. After warranty is gone on a German car, THEY DO NOT. 3. Aside from fluid or filter changes, there is no maintenance needed on cars today for the first 60,000 miles. So to say a vehicles life can be extended if maintained is BS. 4. I test factory cars for a living, been doing it for 3 decades, ALL brands including BMW, Benz, Mini, Audi, BMW. On the Audi segment I’ll have to chime in and make some adjustments to your comments. The 3.0T engine combined with the 8 speed auto is excellent. It’s available on multiple models as well, the Q5, the A6, A7, A8. They are all awesome. I have one of these myself and it’s inching close to 200k now. Zero issues. The S4 even with the second gen DSG can still have issues. I’d put it below the other models I mentioned. The 2.0T I wouldn’t sleep on, 2013+ especially. I’ve had multiple 2.0T cars, they have never failed me either. You might do timing chains once during the car’s life, maybe a water pump leak, but that’s it. I haven’t managed to kill one and I’m not easy on my cars
I have a W211 (2008 e350 4Matic) which I bought as a CPO in 2010 at 28K miles. It now has 180K, and my son is driving as his daily driver. The car cost me no problem other than wear and tear, and oil change. These cars are built to last. You can still see tons of them on the roads today.

It has 265 bhp and 457 lbs torque with a 7g box, 12 years old with no rattles or problems and still looks a million dollars with the AMG body kit.
Just a few things to add from a VAG mechanic... The 3.0 supercharged from 2010 to 2015 is epic. So smooth, reasonably reliable and you can get over 400hp with a tune. Instead of a Cayenne, a fully loaded Touareg 3.6 will save you so much more money in maintenance, and essentially the same vehicle. Nobody will respect you having a V6 Cayenne anyway haha
I daily a Lexus GS350 f-sport 😊 and weekend a Porsche 991.1 911 C4S. Both have been very reliable. My suv is a 15 Audi Q7 s-line prestige. It is a bit more maintenance intensive and is the one that scares me the most. lol so there’s a a good reason it’s not on the list.

getting close to retire and the last thing one needs at retirement is a car where you have to have a dealership number on speed dial. @@kidvybez I don't know about the gasoline engines, but the diesels are good. Straight 6 diesels especially are supposed to be fairly reliable in this generation, but V6 are good as well. And as far as the E55 goes, that 5.4l V8 is probably one of the most reliable performance engines out there, way more reliable than the 6.2l which was put in the E63 W211 in later production years. I don't really know where this unreliability claim comes from. I get what he is saying with the SBC pump I guess, but then again OP seems to be American, and I'm pretty sure the SBC pump has a 25 year recall period there. Got a one owner, 45k mile 2011 BMW 740li m sport for $18k. Had it for 3 yrs now and only maintenance done. Comes with the N54 too for those glorious single turbo builds
Had the A6 C7 and loved the car, but hated the costly repairs. The 3.0 V6 eats PCV valves for breakfast and you have to remove the supercharger to replace them resulting in an expensive repair. It also ate things like engine mounts, front control arm/bushings, and needed a water pump/thermostat/coolant crossover pipe annually. As it got about 140k miles, constant check engine lights for things like catalytic converter out of threshold and stuck open/closed intake flaps. When it didn't have issues it was a dream to drive, but not without anxiety over when the next issue was going to raise its ugly head. So, basically, you have to be willing to pay the ongoing premium to own a car like this.
After much research I bought a 2013 Lexus GS350 with 70,000 miles. Yes, it's not the most stylish car, but it does well. 306 HP normally-aspirated bulletproof V6, rear-wheel drive (the ES is front-wheel drive) , Sport mode and Eco mode. 5.9 second 0-60 (I clocked it) and 150+ top end. It's a musclecar in a Brooks Brothers suit. In Eco mode I get about 26 MPG on the highway, and I stomp on the loud pedal a LOT, pretty good for the power and size. Yes, the 1st Gen infotainment and navigation is a bit squirrelly but it does OK. That's the only real gripe I have with the car. I plan on keeping this one for a LONG time.

Cheers.

@@chadhaire1711 😆 I've owned German cars for almost 20 yrs. I'm also a former auto technician. I think I know what I'm talking about 🤔🤣
@@AtownCangri If you think "maintenance" keeps German cars reliable, you are full of crap. Here are some facts:

Came here to add this comment. The 3.0T \ ZF8 in the A6\A7 are a fantastic combo.

Maybe the gasoline engines are less reliable or something, idk.
I own a 2011 C207 (W212 coupe) E200, not everything is so good with M271 turbo. I bought one 4 years ago with just 27k km (17k miles) of range and everything is not that good. These engines also have oil pressure issues pretty often. But i still love my car so much.
The best engines for W212/C207/W204 are M274 (2.0 liter since 2013) and M276 (3.5 liter since 2012) - they are really reliable. I hope this information will be useful for someone.

The Lexus ISF. A complete sleeper, watch out for one. Mine runs like a clock, I have the only blue one in Ireland and it’s one of only four in the entire country.
Lexus , Acura, Infiniti , few Audis , are all great ! I just can’t trust bmw anymore from my own experiences. The Infiniti Q50 with the 3.7L VQ from 2014-2015 is a great one that I have owned twice in my life. Those often go 300k miles.
both my my g37 have zero issues. one has 300k the other 140k
ALL LEXUS👌🏾💎♦️
We have a Lexus RX F 2017 44.000M amazing continue to drive like brand NEW.
I own a Lincoln Town Car 2003 241,000 miles on the odometer and still running strong.
FYI: I had to replace my turbo at 60,000 with the b58 engine. It was a 5k repair
I’m deciding wether I should buy a used b8 sq5 with around 110k miles,
I believe you might be wrong about the s5 v8. All of the issues with the 4.2 are from the older engines in the s4 and rs4. They fixed pretty much everything except carbon buildup in the s5.
What about Volvo S60/S80 D5 I only mentioned they two models because I’ve owned both had the S60 for twelve years and never left me stranded once and when I p/x it still looked as good as the day I got it and a year into S80 ownership this one feels bulletproof also along with a lot of other Volvos I’ve read about the only thing they fall short on is badge snobbery in the uk
I agree.......despite having some later model luxury cars, I have kept my 8-year old S60 Inscription just because it is so enjoyable to drive, has great visibility and incredible seats, packed with technology/safety options often found only on 2024 luxury models.
