What is your experience with brushed vs brushless? Do you think you need brushless? Do you prefer it? I would love to hear your feedback!
Brushed is ok but sensored brushless is the way to go! They just run better smoother and faster
@@jameshankssr466 I agree completely. Brushed is a good cost cutting alternative for a beginner, but brushless is better in every way, other than cost.
@@turtlelaboratories you can get some pretty reasonably priced brushless setups you just have to look for them! You dont need top of the line to have fun
@@jameshankssr466 Do you think that the Hobbywing Xerun Justock Combo is ok for drift,or is for completely another purpose.Think its very budget friendly.
Keep em coming!
Will do!
Very interesting build. Love it.
Thank you for watching! We really appreciate it!
Nice! I recently got a tt02 for a budget rwd converted chassis using the brushed electronics it comes with. I am in about the same price as your d5. Brushed FTW!
Awesome! Yeah, brushed isn't so bad!
I run my D5mr right beside the hannya, yd2, and mst chassis at my local track. I dont feel disadvantaged at all. Infact my car is on the faster side. Good electronics are more important than the chassis. I run a d10 motor, XR10 stock spec esc and a full futaba s.bus suite. R33 receiver, gyd550 gyro, ct500 servo. My whole car even with top of the line electronics cost about what the other spent on just their chassis.
This is my mindset as well. As long as the chassis can be adjusted the way you need, and its durable, it should do just fine. I also agree that money is better spent on electronics, for a better driving car. Thank you for reporting your feedback on your rig!!
the first music track suits the theme so well
Thank you!
just ordered the d5 mr v2 a few days ago, looking forward to trying it.
Awesome! You are going to love it!
Just replace the shocks and you'll be good to go chassis wise for along time. I like the yeah racing 55mm
qutus slider shocks. Stock Sakura springs, 4 hole pistons, with 10wt. Oil.
@@DJ.1001 I have the QUTUS shocks on one of my MST RMX cars, and they are definitely a quality unit. Thank you for your feedback and advise!
I just finished my mr v2 awsome chassis
Do the kits come along with remote control
I’m learning to drift with a d5 running a 19x1 brushed motor and a hobbywing 1060 esc I’ve got no complaints so far
Heck yeah. Thank you for your feedback on your rig!
So do you believe you can go with brushed as a begginer?Im thinking of getting into drifting with Sakura MR but I want it as dirty cheap as I can.... 😂😂😂
@@upbgenoob5488 I think you can. It would be nice to spend thousands to start with but it’s not necessary
@@upbgenoob5488I’m like you if I want to start a new hobby I’ll buy in as cheap as possible for me that was buying a used Sakura d4 that was rtr for $100. It was brushed also. After a couple tweaks and a different set of tires and a LOT of practice. Because it’s unlike any other rc driving experience. You need to practice practice practice. You’ll get better and learn the car over time. I now have thousands invested into rc drifting. If I could start over I’d change nothing.
really love your video on the d5.. you should make another video about it again..
Thank you! I will see what I can do! What kind of D5 content are you looking for?
@@turtlelaboratories like how many parts you can upgrade on the d5 mrv2.. but still on the budget side..
I'm still new in the hobby, and waiting for my d5 mrv2 to arrived.. so watching your content already helpful for me 😆

I was drifitng my TL-01 back in 1999 before brushless was a common place item
Yup! Good ol 4wd drifting, with cut up ABS pipe for tires. Brushless was just SO expensive at that time.
@@turtlelaboratories2” ABS, you got it lol
nice video man i am w8 for a d5 mr and looking for some parts electronics nice info tnx :D
Thank you! Good luck with your build!
Hi! Servo is not available anymore so, could you recomend another to me ?
bought the v2 and built it with kinda the same electronics. next paycheck is gonna be lipo and initial setup. what are your thoughts on turnigy (red hardcase one)? they are really cheap over here
I have a theory that all the cheap batteries come from the same manufacturer, and then rebranded. I have no proof of this though. I always get the cheap ones, and I've never had a problem as long as you maintain them properly.
I have an old HPI sprint2 from back in the day and want to get back into drifting. Thoughts on making it RWD?
I’ve just kept it brushed as it came and upgraded the ESC to handle lipo. Just as fun :)
Hey Johnny! I would say it wouldn't hurt to try, if you are getting back into the hobby. It likely won't have the same geometry as newer rigs, but you've already got it! You could remove the front belt, but you will need to add a gyro inline with your servo, and hope your servo will be compatible. I wouldn't spend too much on it, and would suggest spending money on a newer chassis, if you are wanting to seriously get back into drifting.
@@turtlelaboratories That’s a great idea! I was debating on getting a Yeah Racing RWD suspension kit to get something similar to the geometry of newer chassis but it’s $140 :/
Im gonna give it a shot and see how it goes. Do you think a stronger motor is generally necessary for RWD drifting vs AWD? Stock came w a 15T Brushed motor.
@@JohnnyTsunami_buy a Sakura they’re 100 bucks for a whole chassis
Where can you get 3Racing Sakura kits in the US? Debating ordering a couple vs buying an MST rmx2.5 rtr .... we have electronics minus gyros...
Sometimes it can be difficult to find them in the states. I want to say I got one on ebay, and it shipped from California. RCmart is a good place to order them, too.
I acualy have the same setup
How do you like it?
I have a brushless combo in my FTX Vantage 2.0. would this be ok in a drift car?
It would make the car go, but I would suggest going a different route. That FTX Vantage seems to come with a sensorless motor/esc combo. A sensored setup will have more control over throttle input and feathering. Also an ESC that is tunable helps dial in the car to suit your driving style.
ah ok thanks for clarifying that.@@turtlelaboratories
oh i think i understand now, the sensors link to the gyro?@@turtlelaboratories
Hey i would like a workstation only to build those rc cars as a hobby .. I will like to know a average price
Thank you for watching! You can check out our Field Benches here: turtlelaboratories.com/collections/field-bench
Is it possible to build one of these all in with 350 usd?
I would say so, if you can be resourceful on a budget friendly body!
What hobby knife is that?
It's a Fiskars SoftGrip amzn.to/3EJYKL8
That 80s synth beat while you’re unboxing parts makes it feel like you’re modifying a scratch built spaceship enough to get off the surface of a planet that’s been taken over by bureaucratic reign.
Hahaha! Thank you... I think!
I own 3 sakura advance s cars they handle better than my $500 team durango detc410 3racing makes nice stuff for the money!
I am glad I am not the only one who likes the Sakura chassis''! They are really great!
@@turtlelaboratories i just finished my sakura D5 MRS version 2.0 evo drift chassis cant wait to run it
