  • The number one question we get about RWD RC Drifting...how cheaply can we get into it? Nobody ever asks the question about a top-shelf build.
    Enter the Sakura D5S.
    This chassis really sparked this conversation again for me. At less than $100, it is the cheapest RWD drift chassis on the market. Especially when you consider it even comes with tires, wheels, a pinion gear, and magnetic body mount in the box!!!!
    The goal with this build: get drifting for less $$$ than the MST RMX2.0 RTR. You can frequently find it for $360-370. Example: amzn.to/3cRAs39
    First, get the Sakura D5S chassis: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53...
    What I used in this video ($328 build)
    - Flysky GT3C: amzn.to/3jlJgkq
    - Savox SC-1251MG servo: amzn.to/2Gt3Z6Y
    - Boom Racing Gyro: www.boomracingrc.com/high-sta...
    - Hobbywing 1080 ESC: amzn.to/3kZiEGb
    - Hackmotor 12T motor: amzn.to/3jouKsc
    - CoolPlay rc body: amzn.to/36hpFy5
    What I normally use in this chassis:
    - Futaba 4PM: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53...
    - Savox SC-1251MG servo: amzn.to/2Gt3Z6Y
    - Futaba GYD450 gyro: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53...
    - Hobbywing XR Pro ESC: amzn.to/3n89SaT
    - Hobbywing 10.5T Bandit motor: amzn.to/3n8Sm62

    I enjoy the action/driving stuff, but I like the nerdy technical stuff even better. And saving money is great and all, but the word "cheap" implies buying junk and making compromises. I'm old enough to appreciate the "buy once, cry once" mantra, but I wasn't always (shocker, right? lol) and I support your efforts to get more people into a hobby that can get VERY expensive very quickly.

    Currently doing the same budget style for all three of my kids with longevity in mind for a couple of years, surpass 13.5t motor, hobbywing 60a esc, afrc gyro, omg servo and flysky gt3c tx but have decided to spend the extra on reve d rdx chassis since the reviews seem to be soo good on it out of the box

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a fun idea!!!
      Honestly - I would recommend you spend that extra money on a better gyro instead of on the chassis.
      If you go with the Sakura D5 MRv2 chassis, the cost is literally half of the ReveD RDX...x3!
      That is enough money to upgrade all 3 cars to Futaba 3PV controllers and upgrade to a GYD470 gyro.
      That would be my suggestion.

    After running a 27t 540 brushed setup in one for a few weeks, slap a bigger pinion on there. That 550 has mountains of torque and there's no grip so you can get that higher RPM easily by gearing up. And I had the same problem mounting the motor, I ended up milling a new slot in the motor plate.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought of drilling a new hole, or opening the slot, but didn't think this combo would stay in there long.

      Great! Glad you are picking up a D5S kit. I still think it is really good.
      Yes, with the stock wheels, it rubbed the turnbuckles at full lock. However, I swapped wheels almost immediately to match the body I was running, so don't have that issue.
      I would suggest picking up a different set of wheels to help with this. I used MST adjustable offset wheels.
      However, you might want to check, as I believe the version 2 might have solved this.

      Once plugged into the 3rd channel, you adjust the gyro gain with the endpoint setting.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The overall quality of the MST is higher. The plastic is nicer, that type of thing.

      @ryank9306 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoadsideRC thanks for replying! Going to put my inexperience on full display and ask how the chassis can be faster? I thought that might be motor/battery bound.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is all about traction and weight.
      The MST chassis is heavier (more weight to push).
      The Sakura D5S is also a RR configuration (rear wheel drive, rear motor) so there is more weight over the wheels. Equals more traction.

      @@RoadsideRC love the content regarding the gyro on athe RTR car video were you replace the factory gyro for something else, i have to try that on my car too!!
      so far the oncepts i have learned about RC drifting are:
      turbo and boost programming with the ESC
      motor type
      suspension setup
      gyro setup
      the car doesn tneed top aceleration since you are cornering, but it neeeds to be controllable and i think that setting up the gyro is key for slow but smooth driftingin the beggining along with suspencion setup!

    That was a very weird choice of ESC and combo. First, this is a good ESC, but brushed is not good in a drifter, they just overheat. If you want cheap get a $30 aliexpress brushless combo or a $40 sensored combo. There’s also pretty nice SPT short servos for $12.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips! I have never purchased stuff from aliexpress.
      This combo will end up in another rc we have, so it was serving dual purposes.

      That is the Power HD gyro...and almost any gyro for that matter. That is just gyro wobble when you turn the sensitivity up too high.

    Can you use the flysky with a futaba gyro?

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - but only partially.
      the Flysky has a discrete 3rd channel that lets you control the gyro gain, but is unable to trigger the AVCS mode in the Futaba gyro to get the maximum benefit.

      Is there a gyro similar to the futaba brand that will would work with the flysky or another transmitter that works with the futaba gyro you recommend besides the futaba transmitter. @@DoubleJEveryDay In my experience, the Futaba gyro and Futaba controller pairing are key.

      Don't skimp on the gyro. Get the good one.

    Rmx 2.0 rtr Vs D5s?

    • @RoadsideRC

      For just starting, the RMX RTR is almost a no brainer. It just makes life so simple, and drifts GREAT with a better gyro (I have a video on that also).
      However, once more into the hobby, the D5S with proper electronics (not as much like you see here with the brushed motor) is faster than the RMX.
