  • An easy tote designed to use one cake of Yarnspirations Bernat Blanket Perfect Phasing super bulky chenille yarn. Download the free crochet pattern PDF on Ravelry: www.ravelry.com/patterns/libr...
    Finished Size: 18” wide, 11” tall, 2” deep (46 x 28 x 5 cm)
    Gauge: 11.5 sts and 10 rows = 4” [10 cm] in sc
    Yarn: super bulky
    Bernat Blanket Perfect Phasing, 1 cake in the Fuschia colorway
    100% polyester; 220 yards [201 meters]/300 grams
    Buy the yarn on Amazon: amzn.to/3HOWG6a
    Hook: 6 mm US size J
    Notions: Removable stitch marker, tapestry needle, 59 inches of ¾” wide (150 cm long and 2 cm wide) faux leather strap or additional yarn to crochet the straps.
    Faux leather straps on Amazon: amzn.to/3Suoxh6
    Pattern Note: The body of the tote is worked in a continuous spiral from an oval base. Do not slip stitch to join rounds.
    Terms (US):
    ch: chain. Yarn over and pull through loop on hook.
    st: stitch
    sc: single crochet. Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through stitch, yarn over, and pull through both loops on hook.
    Ch 40.
    Round 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook (skipped ch does not count as st), sc in next 37 ch, 3 sc in last ch, sc in next 37 ch working along the other side of the starting ch. (80 sts)
    Round 2: (2 sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 37 sts, (2 sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 37 sts. (86 sts)

    Round 4: sc in next 3 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 40 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 37 sts. (98 sts)
    Rounds 5-26: sc in each st. (98 sts)
    Fasten off and weave in ends.
    Attach the straps
    Cut two 29.5” lengths (75 cm) of faux leather. Poke two holes close to the end of the strap, about ½” apart (1.3 cm) apart and centered on the strap. Then poke two more holes about 1.5” (3.8 cm) further up the strap using a hole punch, sharp tool, or hammer and nail.
    With a yarn needle and the same yarn used for the bag, sew the strap to the bag through the holes. Sew through each hole twice as shown at the 24-minute mark of the tutorial video. Knot the ends and weave the ends into the bag.

    I have made 12 of these, and they sell easy. I found a two pack deal for the yarn. Each cake makes one... the obstacle is getting the faux leather straps. Amazon is constantly out of the type you use. I have made my straps using the Romanian Cord stitch. Love the ease of pattern, and quick results! I also added a D-ring on one strap and I dangle a tassel or charm that I've made. It's a nice 'bling' to enhance the sale.

      @@katiej.fromminnesota8301 Yay! I am so glad you are enjoying this project idea! For the waterproof lining, I would try some PUL fabric like people use to sew cloth diapers. It's polyurethane laminate (PUL). There are some cute PUL prints at Joann in the kids fabric section. Our winter has been pretty typical here in the CO mountains, snowy and cold. A few years ago we got 12 feet of snow just in February and we had to shovel our roof a few times but we've only had about 2 feet of snow so far this month. I'm ready for more snow! ❄❄❄

      Thanks! You can start with a chain of any number for this bag. Does not have to be an even number. If you want it to be wider, you may want to buy 2 skeins of yarn so you have enough yarn to make it as tall as the sample bag (or taller!).

    Hi! Thank you for this tutorial. I love it. Is there a reason you sized down 2 hooks for this project? The yarn label says 8mm.

      Thank you! Yes, I go down two hook sizes to make a nice sturdy fabric so items don't slip through the holes between the stitches. I want to be able to have yarn needles and coins in there without worrying about losing them or having to line the bag. Works great!

    • @prettypeacefulcrochet
      @prettypeacefulcrochet  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      9-10 inches each for short handles or about 15 inches each for long shoulder straps.

    I am hoping to start an after school crochet club with some of my students. About how long would something like this take to make? I love it so much and than you for sharing!

      I finished the crochet part in one night, but I have been crocheting for 12 years. I think 4 sessions of an hour or two would be plenty for kids. Day 1 of the club could be teaching the starting chain. I taught a group of kids to crochet a chain at a festival recently and they all picked it up pretty easily. Day 2 of the club could teach the single crochet stitch and do Rounds 1-4. Day 3 of the club could finish the bag, Rounds 5-25. Day 4 could add the handles. This is another great absolute beginner project that requires only chain stitches, it’s the first project I ever made: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chain-loop-circle-scarf

    Leather straps stretch because of the way they are cut. Leather has a grain.

    Me again. LOL I just decided to finish off my bag with the faux straps. Looks great. But can I ask what size hole punch (?1/8) did you use? I was a knuckle head and punched with a normal paper hole punch. It worked because I was able to go through the pair of holes 3 times. But its not correct, I believe. Thank you so much for you help.

    • @prettypeacefulcrochet

      It looks like the holes my punch makes are about 3 mm, which is almost 1/8 inch.

      I did not line mine. It's pretty sturdy and even a yarn needle wouldn't slip through I think.

    Would it be more stiff if I used 7 stands of regular yarn, like your other basket?

    • @prettypeacefulcrochet
      @prettypeacefulcrochet  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! You can use anywhere from 3 to 7 strands. My twin sister is crocheting a Huggable Tote right now with 3 strands of Mandala and it's turning out quite sturdy.

    Help! Why do I have so many issues crocheting ovals?! Always. I have redone this bag 3 times today. Also hard to find the stitches. I have started “feeling” for the spaces which helps but I always mess up on the end increases. Not giving up, only for today. Love this bag.

    • @prettypeacefulcrochet
      @prettypeacefulcrochet  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I struggle with crocheting in the round too. In that case you may want to try to freestyle it! You could just crochet 4 rows of 39 sc to form the base, then crochet around that to make the sides. You would work one sc into the end of each row and one sc into each stitch around. Then just sc around and around. I think even crocheting around after Round 1 without increasing at all would work too.
