Thank you! I bought a ton of this yarn for ministry blankets but didn’t realize how thin it was. I went into panic mode because I didn’t know what to do Lol. And here you are. Thank you for taking the time to do this video. Your explanation is excellent and I know it won’t take me a week to do one blanket!
I love mandala yarns too and appreciate the use of double yarn In this blanket. I really like the simplicity of your videos. You are doing just fine! Keep on keeping on!!!❤❤❤
I'm loving trying this out! Doing the DC foundation row was such a pleasant experience. Thank you for adding that in your video. Loving this...I'll be looking forward to making more!
Thank you sooo much for this tutorial! I learned so much. Working on my afghan now, using 4 weight double stranded... I'll let you know how it goes. Your hubby sounds like a complete gem of a man.
Nice tutorial! I learned something new! I live in CO too, in the mountains outside of Georgetown. I went to college in Durango.. Glad I found your channel!
Hi, thank you for your great video. I had never done the chainless foundation row or the standing double crochet. I recently used this pattern for a baby blanket using Bernat's pipsqueak yarn. I combined it with Luv's baby blanket yarn. It was so much easier to crochet into the big spaces. I used a 10.00mm hook and it turned out great. Thank you again.
Working on one right now in colorway troll. I went to Joann’s today to look for more mandala (I make and donate blankets to our rescue mission) and found several of the bonus bundles were on clearance. So I have enough to make 5 more blankets. Wonderful easy pattern.
Thank you! The stitch multiple is any number of stitches you like. You can also work the blanket lengthwise in rows as I have shown here (so start with as many stitches as you want the length of your blanket to be), or work the blanket horizontally (starting with as many stitches as you want the width of your blanket to be).
Gm:) I’m curious which yarn you used with this pattern in a pic I found elsewhere. Idk where I can send the photo for you to see. Can’t upload it here.
I just love this pattern and excited I learned how to make my edges straight . What is the color of this yarn? I might have overlooked and can’t find. I’m using Warlock Sorcier but am thinking of using this 4 next blanket!
I found that the WalMart cakes are 342 yards for 5.97 now, so has that changed? These cakes you're mentioning here are 590 yards, so it would be more cakes if WalMart had them. I just want to be sure. Not all WalMarts have them, and especially not any store has all the colors. I get so decision bound when I try to figure out what to make for my grandchildren (whom I never see, for reasons I don't care to discuss here LOL) because I don't like certain colors myself. The browns I am not fond of, but I found a really pretty one that stars with Ne(?) something. I am going to make something for my granddaughter with that one. She's still a baby. I am having so much fun thinking about things I can make for them.
Thanks! I know the sparkle Mandala cakes and the Mandala ombre cakes have less yardage per cake compared to the regular Mandala cakes. I used the regular Lion Brand Mandala cakes for this. I live in a really remote area and the only place to buy yarn within and hour and a half drive is Walmart and the yarn section is a tiny little part of one side of an aisle. Not much to choose from. Sometimes if I don’t like one of the colors, I cut that color out and don’t use it. Have fun crocheting!
oh no, I've gone through several rows and I was ending the rows in the last loop instead of the top stitch. The ends still look pretty even, but is it going to look bad as I go along? I don't want to start over :')
I feel silly but I am looking for the fly away blanket and can’t find it. My ocd will go crazy if I don’t have it match. 😂 can you possibly link me? I just got some mandala and would love to try this. Thanks!
Thank you for this tutorial, the blanket is beautiful❣️ I haven’t used that yarn, but I think it’s really pretty. My husband chose Bernat Blanket yarn (super bulky) in the color Inkwell for his blanket. Do you think it would work out well for this pattern?
Thank you, Rosemary! I love Bernat Blanket yarn. Using one strand at a time would work beautifully with this stitch because it has such a nice drape. Go for it!
You can always start the usual way with just chains and then double crochet into the chains instead of trying the foundation double crochet technique. Here is the video I learned foundation double crochet from, it is probably easier to understand: www.mooglyblog.com/foundation-double-crochet-fdc/
Thanks, Kari! The blue/green/purple yarn is the Peacock colorway of Mandala yarn. Sadly, I heard that Lion Brand has discontinued this colorway. The hot pink/white/tan colorway I show at the beginning of the video is called Fairy.
So the only thing I’m wondering is the blanket you did here seems to have the colors in rows… the cakes I have are like backwards… the one color that starts on the outside on one and the inside on the same one is complete opposite on the other skein… so if I use from both skeins, it would be 2 different colors!!! Idk how to make it work where it will look gradient in color… I don’t want a mashup of colors to look like mandala-puke lol. 😂
I just uploaded a video for the Let It Fly blanket that shows how to cut each blanket only once to get the colors to line up and make a symmetrical blanket. th-cam.com/video/sTzLtxDTIkU/w-d-xo.html&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE I hope it helps!
@@prettypeacefulcrochet ohh I was like why on earth would anyone wanna do that lmaooooo. But I thought you were never supposed to cut the yarn!! I’m over here driving myself crazy with this one blanket with 3 colors working up the sides and having the strings get all crossed over and the balls of yarn are getting all messy!!
I have 110 foundation chain. 108 + 2. Or should I just have 108 total? Also, when using two strands it keeps tangling. I changed yarn to be next 2 each other. No matter where I put yarn always detangles. Any suggestions? Thx
Hi Teresa, the pattern as written has 108 stitches per row. However, any stitch count works! It's fine to have 110 stitches per row. Just make sure you still have 110 stitches at the end of each row. My favorite way to keep the two yarns from tangling is to keep one ball of yarn next to me on the couch and to put the other ball of yarn in a bowl on the floor as I crochet. If that doesn't work, you could try rolling the two yarns into a one big ball before you start crocheting. Susan
@@prettypeacefulcrochet wow thx 4 quick response. I thought maybe it was 108 + 2 for turning chain. But now I always count each row. And I love the chain less stitch in 1st stitch - my row is perfectly even now! Yay! Just started 4 friend so we shall c how this 1 turns out. 1st time using double strand. I only just started last yr & is a gr8 hobby!
When I work with two yarns at once they tend to twist a little too. Keeping the balls of yarn spread apart helps, like keeping one ball on the floor and one ball on the couch. It is okay for then to twist as long as they are not getting pulled really tight.

Love this! I just bought 2 Mandala bonus bundles and this is perfect. It's working up beautifully.
I have two bonus bundle cakes in Sasquatch, so I'm thinking I need a blanket now hehe. And I think I'll also make my partner a blanket in Echo Caves.
A nice 'mindless' pattern (that's meant as a compliment!) and the foundation dc is excellently explained. Thank you :-)

You are amazing! I have a Mandala problem and you have given me many solutions for what to do with some of the colorways I have bought!

What do you think about using a 5 weight instead of doubling the 3?
I think that would work perfectly! This stitch is one of my favorites because it creates a fabric with a really great drape.
Instead of two yarns together, can you use a 4 worsted yarn or 5 chunky yarn? I love the pattern.
