    Perfect explanation of why you chose this model....you actually sold me on this too now. If I can find an XL with the same features I will absolutely buy it. I need an overlanding truck that is time tested reliable and has payload and towing above a tundra.

    Just received my 2022 f250 V8 6.3 with the 6 speed tranny. I’m happy with it so far and the transmission shifts perfectly (not clunky like the ten speed). Was a tundra owner before and really like this truck better

    Very nice. I've been looking at these trucks mostly the xlt. But now I might have to look at the xl model. Does it have the camper pkg? Did you level it?

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No camper package. Just added Timbren bumpstops for hauling the camper. Works great. Less to go wrong compared to airbags. I don't like "level kits". Rear suspension is designed to ride "level" with the front when loaded. It's much better having it level loaded than level unloaded.

    I just picked up a 2019 XLT 6.2 4x4 with 3:73's that's pretty much just like yours. I've had it 6 weeks and 4700 miles. I tow an 8000lb Travel trailer. I'm very happy with it so far.

      It's a solid truck! We've been impressed with the fuel mileage too... After the initial 1,000 mile break in the mileage kept increasing. Our best unloaded tank was just shy of 19mpg.

    If the truck has the electronic transfer case it has auto locking hubs which spin the front axle at all times.

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No true. It has a Dana 60 front differential with auto / manual hubs. They can engage via vacuum at speed to enable 4wd. Shafts do not spin otherwise. One of the big benefits of the Super Duty trucks!

    I just ordered the almost same truck 2022 in a XLT still may change to XL STX pkg..... I did get the 6.2 4:30 and may or may not change to the 7.3 10 speed, just know the 6.2 6 speed is proven design and reliable. Are you happy with your choice on the engine, does it have sufficient power? My X plan on the XLT is at 50,495 my X plan on the XL STX is 45,675. Its a tough decision. BTW love your guys vids. Happy Trucking ;)

      We are plenty happy with our 6.2L. After 2yrs it has been reliable and trouble free. We have towed over 14k lbs. It is a workhorse. 6.2L does the job. 7.3L would be faster but not a benefit for us. Simple and reliable. Would likely spec our truck the same again....

  • @ajfam871
    @ajfam871 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video it’s helpful. I run a glass and window business and we. Ought and are happy with our 16’ F150(V6). Time to buy another truck and looking for beefier model. I really want a 6.2L Crew Cab. But we don’t necessarily need that much capability, we won’t be towering much of ever. debating it with a another F150(v8/v6 turbo) possibly 4WD. I’m curious what’s your mpg city and Hwy. This is exactly the model I want. The base one comes with everything i need.
    Thanks again

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. We love the base model truck (it has plenty of options - seems loaded to me). The best hwy mileage was just shy of 20mpg stock. City can be all over the range. Our worse has been 10mpg with the camper and towing on 37" tires. It really depends on how you drive it. It's a big motor and it will suck down the fuel if you drive hard. Many guys report 13-15mpg range. The F150 ecoboost will be better mpg but it's a complex motor with more potential for issues. The 5.0L is a great motor but you'll be in the same mpg range as the 6.2L. I'd estimate that most will see 12-13mpg city and 16-19mpg hwy (driving reasonably).

    • @ajfam871
      @ajfam871 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TruckCamper great insight. Thanks. That’s what worries me with the EcoBoost. It has been around and proved reliable so far but still worries me. It will be a work truck and I won’t probably ever tow much. My current truck is an old horribly efficient Ranger it’s getting 11mpg mostly Hwy with no capabilities of the f250. Lol...

    Hi there! Thank you for covering the f250 in the basic trim. We are considering the same thing! Nice...I really like your price! It seems like they are mid 40s now. It would be great to get the rebates upped somehow.
    Questions-
    Are there any cupholders for the rear seat passengers?
    I was just going to ask the payload....and see someone else asked it. 3429 is very sufficient for our needs!
    Did you special order your rig.....or get one off of the lot?
    Safe travels....any luck you will be heading to southwest CO to the San Juan Mountains?

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We love the basic truck!! We ordered it through our fleet manager. Custom ordered took 3-4 months. He beat MSRP by a good margin. We have just under 3,400 payload. Yes on rear cup holders - although we removed the seat.
      We will absolutely be exploring Colorado. Not sure when yet...
      Thanks for watching!!

      @@TruckCamper Hi there! Ok...cool. Yes, I have met the fleet manager at our local store. I really liked interfacing with him back when we were looking at 1 tons (ended up getting a Ram then). So, I will seek him out.
      Special order works fine for us. We'll be ordering a travel trailer then too, of some sorts. I'd like to keep it a smaller trailer so as to be able to get into most of the national forest boondock spots. Anyways, our backcountry doesn't open up, due to snow, until June-ish. So, 3-4 months for a truck and a trailer is fine. We'll order those after the New Years.
      Have a great day and Happy Thanksgiving!

      @TruckCamper  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@campingalan Awesome! I was checking out the Winnebago Minnie Winnie. Cool trailer with added height, less width and lower weight. Could be a solid off grid unit.
      Blessings!! Enjoy the Thanksgiving time. Be great to see what you end up with.

    • @campingalan
      @campingalan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TruckCamper I was initially in the market for a geo pro or r-pod (murphy bed floor plans). We have a tacoma and it runs out of payload very fast. Plus...I have pretty much a middle lineback physique; so it runs out of pounds even faster. Then wife and dog and generator and gas and bikes and stuff. Those 2 models of campers also have very little storage. So, we'd each have tote in the back of the truck for cloths and food hehehe.
      So, I did start looking at slightly bigger trailers. Yes!! The Minnie winnie definitely caught my eye! TH-camr, Traveling Robert, has taken his criss cross the county a lot! Plus, it is a better build than those forest river examples.
      Well...Minnie winnies...and Grand Designs, and such, all are overweight for the Tacoma. So, we discussed a half ton truck initially so as to have a decent ride when not towing. Well, we can really push those 1/2 ton limits too. So.....here we are chatting with you guys and also considering either a 3/4 or 1ton. Then, it will just work for all combos. We've had some close calls with marginally heavy weights before; No MAS!!
      So, for any of these trailers, I'd definitely make sure they are lifted (many, to include, the MInnie Winnie, are factory lifted now). I'd also spend the $$ and get a decent solar/battery set up. I pretty much only work part time and have a lot of 1-2 week blocks off from work. So, with distances being big out west here, I think we'll just focus on CO, as well as the surrounding states, for mostly boondocking spots. When I retire in 3-5 years, we'll expand that to 1-2 month trips; we'd probably upgrade our rv at that point to for the extra space then.
      So...we'll see. Ha...I will just have to have discipline in our hunt if we do the bigger tow vehicle; keep the eye on the prize of being able to reach many backcountry areas vice staying in some posh rig hehehehe. Heck...the prize is still being outside as much as possible!
      OH...that does bring up another concept. We may shift our looking a bit more closer to a "4 season" rig then too since we'll have the extra tow capacity. I probably would be inclined to head more over to UT in the winter to explore the desert. It does still get below freezing out there.

    • @TruckCamper
      @TruckCamper  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@campingalan Sounds like you've given much thought and considerations! We switched to the truck camper specifically for winter type travel. Love it. Your plan for solar is great. A good setup is silent and carefree just does its thing.
      We loved our 2016 Tundra but it does have lower limits compared to the Super Duty. Think the build quality and components are the best of the available HD trucks.
      Adventure on!!
