    Good straightforward video. One of the best walkthroughs I've seen. Quick and to the point, not much wasted time. Love it.

    THANK YOU. Just got a used RAM and it's leaking. I'm glad it's this straight forward.

    Finally I found the video I have been looking for. Thanks for this video, it really helped me gain the confidence I needed to do the job myself. Was scared of the stub axle, thought I was going to have to open the diff like you have to when working on the driver side stub axle.

    Thanks for the tip on the seal, just found my own truck has worn out splines, no stock on OE shafts at the moment, but managed to find an aftermarket - hopefully will last a few years until the OE is back. But haven't been able to find a seal, so will call a different dealer tomorrow to see if I can get one. Mine isn't leaking but hate using old seals.... so I better be careful getting the old RUST crusted one out.... I'll update in a week or so.

      How did it go I changed mine out almost 2 years ago with a none oem one and it needs it again

      @@rogerwolfe6934 I forgot to update this one. So far seems ok. I was actually able to get a seal from a dealership in town. I am suspicious of the aftermarket quality of the shaft, although at the moment seems to be ok. Have had the camshaft issue, also aftermarket kit. The aftermarket lifters were noisy from first startup, very frustrating. Switched to 5w30 instantly quietened them down, so definitely a manufacturing tolerance issue. Trouble is, I don't want to fork out $2000 for OE lifters (doesn't include head gasket & bolts.......) have noticed MDS isn't kicking in over about 80 kph.

      Yea I got the OEM seal just not the shaft and the seal is leaking again. I think from the play in the shaft. the shaft has some play and the noise is back so I have all the parts and will be doing it again soon it went almost 2 years

    Crystal clear explanation! Some time, would you do a front axle R/R for the 1990s Montero or Dodge 4x4s?

    What grit emery paper did you use? And does it need to have a super perfect polish or would say 1,000 grit sandpaper suffice?

    I have to change the hub assembly anyway, if i do this would i still have to remove the upper ball joint to get that differential seal out? I'm worried about needing an alignment after messing with the upper ball joint, because i've been told there is no more room for alignment the last time i got one. And that I would need new control arms if I ever needed another one. (2006 Ram 1500) 5.7L THANK YOU!

    I just attempting to replace my stub shaft to find out my axle on my front passenger side is a complete 180. The electronic 4wd actuator is on the dif side not the CV axle side as yours is. 2014 ram 1500 SLT 8 speed 5.7 Hemi. Do you know the part number that applies to that shaft or even a link to purchase is? My splines are in poor condition. Currently limping it along in 2wd with a new CV axle in hopes it doesn't wreck it. And also how do I remove that axle I tried pry bars and hammer chisels and it wouldn't budge a mm

    i tried to remove the stub shaft on the left side like you showed for doing the right side .Should it slide off and out from the diff or do I need to do something inside of the differential ? Thanks

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Taffulicious Taffy I believe the left stub shaft slides over a splined shaft in the differential. It's sometimes hard to get out if it is rusty. Don't damage something.

    Great video, thank you! How did you get the drive axle popped back onto the stub shaft? When reinstalling everything, I wasn't able to seat the stub shaft completely into the drive axle pocket. There's about 1/4" of the stub still exposed. I can't seem to find a way to pry it in without damaging the boot. Thoughts or advice?

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Nick Cormier You might need to tap on the end of the axle shaft with a hammer to get it to fully seat. If you don't have a plastic dead blow you can use a block of wood to protect the axle. Good luck and thanks for dropping by!

      every part store I've checked at has said that they have the driver side but not the passenger side stub shaft. Do you know if they are interchangeable.? I'm having a really hard time finding any information on this part?

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Different part. So the dealership or a driveline shop will be your next best options. Maybe a little more expensive but they should have it.

    Did you drain the gear oil or was it low enough to not leak out?

    • @beebacheeba
      @beebacheeba 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you do the repair, you'll be opening the side of the differential, in which case all of the fluid or most will come spilling out. Have a catch pan and refill after repair.

    What kind of red grease was that there you put on the seal surface

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dominic Belvides That's just general bearing grease. It's valvoline brand. Pretty much any lube like that will do. Just help keep the seal from getting damaged on install. Thanks for watching.

    I've replaced my front passenger CV Axle on my 2016 Ram two times now, and the new one which I installed two months ago is not making a noise. When I looked at it the other day I noticed that it's still connected, boot is in new condition, but it does feel too loose and wobbly. Originally, the reason I had to replace it was because I had a wheel bearing failure due to some larger tires I think on the truck (which came with it). My wheel was at probably a 25 degree angle to the truck when that happened. Do you think maybe when that original incident happened, it ruined the differential mounts or stretched the control arms? Trying to figure out why the new cv axles keep failing. Thanks!
