I repaired my rear shocks with that AT205. I then soldered the holes shut and have nearly 80,000km since doing the repair, with no leaks at all, and they are as firm as new. It's good stuff, saved me a fortune.

Scotty, you may want to rethink this advice. The MSDS sheet for ATP Automotive AT-205 Re-Seal lists the liquid's components as 100% glycol ethers. Glycol ethers are a commonly used solvent in paints and various cleaners. I would strongly suggest something possibly silicone-based that is far friendlier to various rubber compounds.
It’s actually designed specifically for use with rubber so I’m sure they have some sort of chemical that counteracts them or something of that nature, but me personally I use silicone spray from pb blaster
This is great to know. I have been looking for something that would protect the rubber suspension bushings. I thought the AT-205 might be the answer but now that I see this, Hell Yeah! WOO!
I called the manufacturer of AT-205 about using it on suspension bushings, and they said it will lubricate for few minutes, but the stuff will evaporate. And they said I would be wasting my money. I personally would recommend silicone spray, and make sure to stay away from lithium grease and all purpose WD-40 since they are petroleum based. anything petroleum based will destroy rubber.

If anyone is wondering, The active ingredient is "Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether". BlueDevil Power Steering Stop Leak also is the exact same thing. If you are having a hard time finding it at-205.
Well, I can say I've personally tried this on my daily driver (I know, very boring compared to the other comments and thier applications, please bare with me) I tried the exact product from the video and I have regretted it and will forever see Scotty K as a joke. Do NOT use this product unless you have researched it for yourself and know it's appropriate (chemically). It's been 2 years since I've done this but the damage its done was visible around 6 to 9 months later. I should've done my homework, and just stuck to WD-40. Don't make the same mistake I did.
I don't have a car, but I use a scooter everyday. I replaced my engine bushings twice a year in repair shop but I watched your video and now I take good care of my vehicle, AT205 reseal makes my bushing really last longer. It's been 2 years now.
Great advice Scotty! I've done the reseal process to all my older cars from the past and present. As a teenager in High I worked at a ESSO station performing Oil and Filter changes, and part of my process was lubing those seals and rubber grommets with that same solution or something similair to it.. It preserved all those rubber parts very effectively!
Hi Scotty, Before you I had never used or heard of AT-205. After watching your video I bought the product and tried it out. I sprayed my undercarriage suspension parts, rubber boots and everything rubber while the car was on the lift a year ago. After checking recently I found all the parts I sprayed still look new. Great product!
Scotty is the Einstein of automobile mechanics. He holds an amazing amount of knowledge and thorough practical auto-mechanical/electrical/computer work experience.
😁 I was just thinking about going and checking my power steering fluid and it's 4:50 a.m. and then I read your comment and now I feel nauseous is that that too funny
I've been binging your videos non stop and I cant thank you enough for the amount of knowledge you've passed on! I'm quite new to automechanic work but I feel like I've learned a lifetime of invaluable information from your channel and Im excited to keep great care of my car :)
I've found immense value in starting and keeping a google sheet for each car....dates and mileage in the first two columns and ever single repair and part number and tire rotation across. My only regret is not recording costs of parts and repairs.
I've had good luck with 303. I go under the car twice a year and spray all the black rubber I see. Then I do the belts, hoses and tires. Finally, I spray the door and trunk seals.
A bike repair shop suggested Armor All Original Car Protectant to keep tires from drying out since it contains the same ingredients as sprays marketed as tire protectant. I've been using it on my car's interior plastic and rubber as well as the engine bay's rubber parts. Walmart sells a 1/2 gallon of it for $14.98 which is much less expensive than 8 oz of AT-205 re-seal.
Per ATP tech support: The active ingredient in AT-205 is heat activated around degrees 180F, you will see no benefit by spraying it on a rubber object that is exposed to air, it will just evaporate. Also AT-205 needs a carrier to blend with such as engine oil or transmission fluid. We’ve actually done some test on rubber hoses, belts, etc. after a couple of hours the stuff just evaporated and you couldn’t tell it was ever applied.
😭😭😭😭😭😭 I knew something wasn't right I brought two bottles at $27 a piece and what you said where the exact results that I got 🤬 can you recommend a product that would actually work for this situation because I basically just wasted$60 in all of my time😢
This stuff can be amazing on what it does to rubber & many applications can go way beyond suspension...almost anything made of rubber. I had a 40 year old air pump for fish tank that had bellows that was hard & crispy. Output was weak & treated with AT-205 & a cotton swab. Treated & let cure for 1 week. Output tripled & no fish died. This stuff is also great for car door gaskets!
Yes that is true, I got some ebay suspensión parts for my weekend car that sleeps in the garage and I have to replace them already because they are cracking, the tie rods specifically, always get OEM.
Sweet Project Cars channel says soak your belts for 10 minutes in 303 Space Protectant and you will never have to replace your belts again, they will never dry out or crack.
Why would anyone give this video a thumbs down? Read the comments; helicopter pilots, airplane mechanics, even an astronaut commented on the effectiveness of this product. Some of those comments are priceless!
Every year I use a turkey baster to suck out the best I can the brake fluid and the power steering fluid reservoirs and replace them with the proper new fluids on my '07 Jeep Commander 4.7. I do the coolant [every two years] diffs, transfer box, transmission fluid [drop the pan] both tranny filters, valve body, and tranny cooler. In the Air Force, they say if the hydraulics stay cool and clean it ought not to fail.
Man, you're the best! And this is coming from a mechanical engineer! It's even harder to find honest mechanics that won't rip you off here in Costa Rica...
Yeah there are a lot of dishonest and incompetent mechanics here in the states also. The stories I could tell......You can't believe everything you hear on youtube but Scotty seems to know what he's talking about.
AT205 is the best thing, for every thing that’s rubber. I put it on my door rubber, everything…. Had a front seal going out. I put 205, 300 miles later it’s gone. Amazing product struts everything rubber under your car 205 will fix it. Thank you, Scotty for turning me onto this fantastic product
Maintaining a car is like maintaining anything else - gotta have the time, money, and desire to maintain everything. A lot of people don't maintain themselves........
Hey Scotty! So I am learning so much from you and I'm grateful for your honesty. I'm not getting that anywhere else. Everywhere I take my 2010 Ford F-150 Raptor SVT I am being ripped off so now I am learning how to do a lot of things myself including just good prevention and maintenance. That being said, for this video should we clean or at least rinse off all of the rubber before putting on the ATP AT-205 reseal? Curious.
Scotty please do a short series of videos on how to maintain your car, or write a book. Just list all of your tips in one place. I would love to apply your tips and see how long my next car lasts. Such a book or series of videos would make for a terrific high school or college course!
Your advices are excellent! I am not a mechanic but I have been doing a lot of research about how to fix car problems for years.. the problem is that there are too many dishonest mechanics out there
James M Who owns who? Just like owning a house. A retired friend of mine was a major finance officer for Lexus, he only leases his cars. So he always has a newer car and never cares if it breaks-down. I guess it costs out once you get in a certain price range!
Scotty!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 your amazing. I used the AT 205 on the top of my struts like you said on my strut mount housing and omg it’s so much quieter. I had the struts replaced 3-4 years ago but not the strut mount housings on my 2007 Prius. I love my car and want to keep it going til I’m done with my degrees. I wish I had learned of this sooner as we rode this car for years with crunchy rubber sounds which was more pronounced in the rain or going over a speed bump. I watch your videos all the time. And I wish you well!
I did it today on my upper strut mount but not sure why All the coating came off right away and it left me with bare metal ? Is that normal or that was all of dust accumulated over time ?? Any help would be appreciated
Do you recommend with this product on engine mounts too? Usually the rubber cracks because of the stress the engine puts on them, especially when they are a bit old. I'd like to know if this is a good or a bad idea. Many thanks Scotty!
In separate videos you've recommended using lithium grease and AT-205 to fix creaks and noises coming from worn/hardened rubber parts. When do you use lithium grease and when do you use AT-205 to make rubber parts last longer? Or do you use both in combination?
Coukd probably use either, id suspect the grease wont rejuvenate like the at 205, but im betting it'll be better than nothing, and if its a part that moves, itd probably help more. However, id experiment, u wont hurt anything. Use the at205, then wait till the next day or so, n then spray the grease, it'll be fine im sure of that. One thing though, there is a point where it just needs to be replaced. So if u have a poorly neglected 20 year beater, it'll still help with noises and ride quality, but it may possibly make some situations worse as the old crappy rubber being stuck maybe be whats actually holding it together in the same sense.
I've been doing this on my Subaru Forester for years and the front control arm bushings have lasted, so far, more than TWICE as long as before I sprayed AT-205 on them! My front control arm bushings failed at 120K and 210K miles for the first and second control arms. But my third front control arm bushings, and ball joints are still going at 502K miles! 240K miles, which is TWICE as long as not spraying AT-205 on them.
We are all to bless you, Scotty. The Video Lesson from Scotty Kilmer the Mechanic Knowledges of Basic levels, MUST be included in the High School Program Nationwide in the USA. I was born and graduated from High School in Ukraine. In High School, I took The Construction Machine and Tractor Operator and Machine Mechanic classes. I had a license and a profession at 18 years old already. When I moved to the USA I got a CDL because I know how to do it and have the knowledge of how to do it correctly. In the USA a millions of children are growing up in families of single moms or even in a full family where children can not gain general knowledge about how and what to do with their vehicles. As a result of poor knowledge or its absence, we see breakdown cars on the shoulders of the roadways and they create interference and are a threat to the car owner and all road users.
I think you should. Remember: auto car makers want your parts to eventually go out so they can sell you new parts. One example I noticed was that the rubber hoses on my old VW ran perfectly for 330,000 miles because they were hydrated always from the inside. If the rubber did not keep hydrated I think it would have cracked. My Mazda motor mounts were all worn out and cracked after ten years of use in the desert. If your vehicle has good mounts, some seal should be good for them.
I've been using silicone spray also for the past 20 years or so. I was trying to stop a leak on my '91 Trans Am w T-tops and found silicone spray kept all the rubber seals like new. Same thing for your wiper blades. But the silicone blades are out now. Also spray any PIN connectors w/ silicone spray. Helps to keep them from corroding and sticking together.
Not only are you giving great information but the pictures you post up in the corner are hilarious and make the videos worth watching even if you didn't have a car at all!

@Covert Cam you're that person who everyone hates... Its an expression it just means rx8's love to rev unlike piston engines. Plus rx8 rev up to 9000 rpms
A tip I heard is every year, suck all of the power steering fluid out of the reservoir and replace with new. That way over time the fluid gets replaced and it's always getting fresh additives.
Just had my MOT (mandatory yearly car safety test in the UK) and I've had to have work done on my suspension regarding the pins / bushings because they were excessively worn. It was flagged as an advisory for the past 3 years when the previous owner had it, but they never got the work done. This was my first time MOTing it and it failed because they were so worn this time because the owner left it so long... Safe to say, once I get my car back home, I'll be following the advice in this video to keep the new parts lasting longer!
Where have you been all my life? Many of the kinds of things you advise doing are just the kind of things I like to do... but just didn't know I could or should. The AT 205, for instance. I've always believed you owe it to yourself, your bank account and the world in general to at least do preventative maintenance so you don't waste money and natural resources on stuff that could have been prevented. Great stuff, Scotty. Keep up the good work!
I'm taking notes, I own a 20 year old Pontiac Gran Prix that could blow something expensive at any moment, at this point the whole car could blow up! I'm on borrowed time (with a side order of a wing and prayer) and spare parts are becoming hard to find. I'm glad I found this video!!
Great tips and totally agree on the quick struts, bought a set for the first time and not only were they way too soft and sloppy of a ride, but they only lasted about 3 years vs the oem ones which were on there for 15.
Gotta be careful with certain types of clear plastics. l've seen some overspray get on instrument panel clear cover and turn it permanently cloudy. Same goes for 303.
Hey Scotty I just picked some up for $27 at advanced Auto I'm going to use it tomorrow morning I'll let you know how it goes, thank you for all you do for us you are a life-changer and a car saver❤👍✨🏆✨🙏
No spray....for best results coat the bottom of your tires w a good coat of Vaseline. Reduces friction they say. Test by taking car to top speed and apply brakes hard as possible.
Who would have thought? I honestly never thought about this. I do live close to the ocean and I wash my cars underside as often as possible. It definitely helps. Scotty, you made my day or evening. Depending on when you read this. (:
The criticism on Scotty's videos cracks me up. I am goimg to do all he says that will maintain my 2002 Ford Explorer (original owner) with almost 300,000 miles on it. Its been good to me through the good times and the bad. I hope it gives me another 300,000, if i even live that much longer.

Me too 👍🏼
I've had good luck with 303. I go under the car twice a year and spray all the black rubber I see. Then I do the belts, hoses and tires. Finally, I spray the door and trunk seals.
Российский робот same here. I use that to, but not to sure it’s good to use with blubber with metal contact.

Does that help to prevent rubber doorseals freezing stuck...
AT-205 really is good stuff. Thanks Scotty for saving everyone who hears this - big money.
Yeah but what about Europ what to buy?
Who sells it???
@@Archer28M Vaseline
A bike repair shop suggested Armor All Original Car Protectant to keep tires from drying out since it contains the same ingredients as sprays marketed as tire protectant. I've been using it on my car's interior plastic and rubber as well as the engine bay's rubber parts. Walmart sells a 1/2 gallon of it for $14.98 which is much less expensive than 8 oz of AT-205 re-seal.
It pays to keep your rubber nice and supple.
Scotty, should I spray this on my condoms to prevent breakage?
That's what she said....

😭😭😭😭😭😭 I knew something wasn't right I brought two bottles at $27 a piece and what you said where the exact results that I got 🤬 can you recommend a product that would actually work for this situation because I basically just wasted$60 in all of my time😢
This is proof that even very experienced mechanics are subject to placebo.
@@gregs6403 unfortunately this is CORRECT...... AND EXPENSIVE 🎯😝🤬
Yeah we need scotty to prove it or debunkit.
Sweeeeeeeet project cars
I think he use this because its more watery than 303
303 is very expensive
You still want to replace belts because the ribs of the belt extend. And rub on the bottom and it will throw your belt off.
Why would anyone give this video a thumbs down?
Read the comments; helicopter pilots, airplane mechanics, even an astronaut commented on the effectiveness of this product. Some of those comments are priceless!

I've always thought that there should be something to keep CV boots etc soft so they dont crack...thanks for the tip Scotty!
I recently bought my first car, and I have learned a lot from you.. I wish I had found your channel earlier
I wish we had the internet back in the 70's. Would've saved me a lot of aggravation.
I use silicone spray on all the rubber parts. One time I was out of silicone spray, so I sprayed with Mother's VLR.

SCOTTY YOU ARE A LEGEND !
Never heard of at205 but always wanted a way to maintain rubber. Great way to keep a vehicle driving like new. 👍 Thank you 😎
Maintaining a car is like maintaining anything else - gotta have the time, money, and desire to maintain everything.
Curious.
I spray interior detailer to all the seals.
Since it stated that it protects rubber, plastic, and etc
Yeah, Armour All and such works just as good. Anything that says it's for rubber.
Scotty please do a short series of videos on how to maintain your car, or write a book. Just list all of your tips in one place. I would love to apply your tips and see how long my next car lasts. Such a book or series of videos would make for a terrific high school or college course!
Your advices are excellent! I am not a mechanic but I have been doing a lot of research about how to fix car problems for years.. the problem is that there are too many dishonest mechanics out there
If I listen to everything you do I'll be working on my car till I die.
James M you mean you’ll be doing some maintenance once a year on car you’ll own for 25 years?

2 years later, how is the AT-205 holding up? Still keeping your ride quiet?

Scotty, what about using silicone spray to lube those rubber parts, that aren't under the hood, rather than the AT-205? thanks
I wanted to ask the same thing!
or 303 aerospace protectant.
It washes off. AT 205 on the other hand rejuvenates rubber.
303 only protects against UV damage, nothing more!
@Mr1983abraham she may need to trim that bush😏
Do you recommend with this product on engine mounts too? Usually the rubber cracks because of the stress the engine puts on them, especially when they are a bit old. I'd like to know if this is a good or a bad idea. Many thanks Scotty!
I would like to know this also? I think it would be safe but who knows
Any rubber. Seals. Mounts. O rings. Any. Works on just dont use in brakes system
Yeah, if they are rubber it can be used, it absolutely will not harm them thats for sure.
Can I use it on the engine bay like rubber hoses ??
@@costantineyoussif6679 That I do not know, simply because im not sure how flammable it is, id imagine very flammable so idk.
Scotty thank you for this tip! Could you also use 303 Aerospace Protectant for the same purposes instead of the AT205 Reseal?
I have for years. Or armour all, whatever is cheapest. Does it work? Absolutely.
I found this video to be one of your best (important preventative maintenance) since I've started watching. Thank you Scotty!
6:57 “A little maintenance goes a long way” 😏Scotty hitting us with the essential life skills.
Scotty didn't mention that a high maintenance person requires more than "a little maintenance".
303 protectant is also very good when applied to rubber
I agree, I've used both and I think 205 lasts longer and works better for exterior rubber components in my experience
In the USA a millions of children are growing up in families of single moms or
even in a full family where children can not gain general knowledge about how and what to do with their vehicles.
As a result of poor knowledge or its absence, we see breakdown cars on the shoulders of the roadways and they create interference and are a threat to the car owner and all road users.
Could you use that stuff on engine mounts?
I don't see why not.
Engine mounts will burst into flames
@@jamesmedina2062 by hydrated from inside, do you mean with water or oil?
Jhingur Bullet hydrate means water
I Use 100% silicone spray. Same thing a couple times a year and keeps the rubber soft.

A tip I heard is every year, suck all of the power steering fluid out of the reservoir and replace with new. That way over time the fluid gets replaced and it's always getting fresh additives.
Good idea brother
You don't have to do it every year, every 30k-50k is fine, and removing it all by disconnecting the power steering hose and getting all the fluid out

Can't help but notice you're not using this product on hoses, reservoir covers or anything near where the engine gets hot. Flammable?
No
Yeah it is flammable, it warns that on the back side tag.
I use 303 Aerospace Protectant and Honda Shin-Etsu grease on my door seals and window seals.
I wonder if is the same stuff under a diff name?
Scotty's the type of guy to call a sway bar link a torsion bar.
Great tips and totally agree on the quick struts, bought a set for the first time and not only were they way too soft and sloppy of a ride, but they only lasted about 3 years vs the oem ones which were on there for 15.
Can you use this stuff on door/Window seals?
Before I go on an AT 205 rampage.... is there anything I SHOULDN'T spray it on? Thank's Scotty!
Gotta be careful with certain types of clear plastics. l've seen some overspray get on instrument panel clear cover and turn it permanently cloudy. Same goes for 303.
