    The screw allows for adjustment of slightly misaligned focus of the right versus the left lens. [edit] nice video, thanks for putting up! 🙂

    That is much nicer than having two DSLRs on a Door hinge. Close the hinge and the cameras are bottom to bottom facing the same way, open the hinge, and you can replace the batteries.

    Lenses have to be closer together for close up work to minimize eye crossing. They have teased a version with close lenses. What we really need is a good 3D camera like the old JVCs - zoom, auto convergence in a consumer friendly form. 180 gives you more than you need.

    Might get this still if I can edit without the software subscription.
    I flipped thru and have answers to two of the questions you had.
    The reason for the focus screw is so that both lenses can be in perfect focus together.
    The center dual adjust them both so if one is a bit off for any reason you need that to bring them back to true.
    Second, minimum focus distance is not from the lens, but from the sensor. So that adds a bit more distance than you were expecting it to be.

    I am very green but just asking questions so I don't bombard my son who is very excited about this lens.
    Can you print from the video or take shots with this lens not just using it for video.
    I think fish eyes are so cool and this just solidifies that in my head even more.

    Screw for the right lens focus is to align them and make equal, because over time it goes off.

    At first I was confused why the L and R were reversed, then I remembered the image is flipped on the sensor.
    But I feel like Canon could accommodate for that so it's not so strange.

    I am in Tokyo. I want to buy this to create VR content to run eye tracking experiments using iMotion eye tracking analysis software. iMotion wants to make sure that videos produced by RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye Lens + R5 will work with their system. Is it possible to have a link to one of the video samples you showed, the actual footage, not youtube. Then I can test it to prove that the video is compatible. - Sorry for the trouble and thanks in advance.

    When shooting in 60fps, what’s the highest resolution supported?

  • @VRcation
    @VRcation 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You'll want to prioritize frame rate when shooting for headsets. no reason to shoot 24p when you can very easily do 30fps. "cinematic" means nothing in this medium, also handheld shooting is a really bad idea (especially without stabilization)
    You're better off with something from insta360 or vuze if you're shooting handheld - this lens and camera setup really needs to be on sticks or very slow gimbal movement.
    I’ll be headed to a few zoos soon with this Canon setup!

    If shooting an 8k video, is the output with this lens 8k quality? Or since it is shooting with two "lenses", is each lens' image 4k quality?

    • @CollinAbroadcast
      @CollinAbroadcast 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd imagine both are 4k to add up to 8k so you get an overall 4k quality output at 180 degrees. Kinda how the insta360 uses 5.7k all around to produce a 1080p final output. I may be wrong though

    • @ViciousXUSMC
      @ViciousXUSMC 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's 8k video for the full frame. The frame is cut in half immediately as it's two images.
      But common mistake here. 8K is not double 4K. 8K is 4x bigger than 4K because it's double the horizontal and vertical resolution.
      We are only cutting the horizontal resolution in half so think 6K (not true 6k just a mental analogy)
      However we also do not have half the frame to work with because a large part of the image has no light.
      Casting two circles on a rectangle sensor. So you lose more resolution their as well.
      The last thing to keep in mind is that pretty much nothing captured by this lens will ever be viewed 1:1 as is, it will be stretched and warped to fix the perspective.
      Doing this will enlarge parts of the image making it's resolution artificially higher and potentially shrinking parts near the center.
      This is the issue filming with only two super wide angle cameras compared to say a 360 camera that has 8+ sensors and keep each image relatively in the correct perspective.
      Basically your can't exactly use the final products resolution as a metric of 4k or 8k in a traditional sense.
      It will just be an approximate with varying degrees of original pixel density depending where you are looking in 3D space.
      That's why 180VR is all about having your main subject right in the center and everything else is just "ambience"
      Personally for me id prefer a single lens 180 video for double the resolution.
      It won't be stereo scopic but will be double the quality and is perfect for interactive content on your phone or computer monitor.

    When a camera manufacturer states the focus distance they mean from the plane of the sensor, not from the front of the lens. You'll see a small circle with a line through it printed on the top of the camera body. That is the location of the sensor.
