  • FULL RECIPE BELOW
    Chorizo is a very popular spicy pork sausage originating from Mexico. While it can be stuffed into an empanada, it can also be thrown into a burrito, pressed into a burger, served alongside shellfish, as well as many other ways.

    CHORIZO RECIPE: learntocook.com...
    Tools:
    Skillet
    Sharp Knife
    Wooden Spoon
    Directions:
    1. Cut vertically down the chorizo so it will be easier to take out of it’s casing.
    2. Place skillet on stovetop with low to medium heat.
    3. Squeeze the chorizo out of its casing and onto the skillet. Add ¼ cup of water so the chorizo does not stick to the pan.
    4. Stir chorizo and break it down with your wooden spoon. You can add any additional ingredients you want at this stage such as onions, garlic, or even an egg.
    5. Cook until your chorizo starts brown and drain the fat.
    6. Serve as you desire.

    Man, that looks great! One can't stress enough the importance of getting fresh chorizo from a proper Mexican grocer... so many of the folks I've known who swore they hated the stuff had only had the "name-brand" stuff that just melts away like a greasy paste.

    I have had this only in restaurants and then only in a cheese dip mix with chips. Anyways I went and got some to bring home and make it myself. I open the plastic tube and find myself lost on how to cook this so thank you for the video it was great and for the different ideas on what to mix it with. I am mixing mine with egg and green peppers tops with cheese in a soft shell. Seems you can use this mixed in a lot of dishes, to bad I can only find the stuff in the plastic tube yours in the video looks much nicer.

    The chorizo I buy at the store is nothing like this. Mine is mushy after cooking, not like this consistency at all. And the stuff I buy is about 50-60% fat. I think I'll go a Mexican market here and try their homemade. Thanks for the video.

    Biggest takeaway was to prep all the ingredients and store in the fridge. Adding the spices to the chorizo and fermenting it overnight in fridge gives the meat a real kick when adding all in the frying pan the next day. Whoa! Try diced hatch chili's for real heat 🌋. Pour a glass of milk...

      @Learntocook  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Alex,
      We recommend putting a little bit of water in the pan to help from sticking but because chorizo has a tendency to be a greasy sausage, added oil isn't necessary.
      Thanks for watching!

    Whem i make chorizo its real runny and soft yours almost looks like ground beef..why is that?

    • @Learntocook
      @Learntocook  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes when you buy chorizo it contains too much fat, this is the reason why it comes out mushy. Also try draining the fat.
      Some stores have homemade chorizo, is always better.

    • @Learntocook

      Try to buy chorizo that is homemade, also you need to strain the fat so that the chorizo is little dryer.

    • @Learntocook
      @Learntocook  8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      You’re right the art of sausage making originated in Europe, and chorizo is very popular in Spain, the one I’m using is a Mexican style chorizo is different than its Spanish counterpart.

    I'm not a chef by any stretch of the imagination, but why didn't this chef put the Chorizo in a straight line and then cut the natural casing? Just asking.

    • @chubbylove1519
      @chubbylove1519 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If chorizo is cut in a straight line, the aromatic flavor is lost and the texture becomes mushy and rancid. If not cooked specifically this way, word per word, the chorizo will start to cook, and without the aromatic flavors, your house will begin to smell like rotten egg farts.

  • @inq752

    While adding onions may add something to the dish, adding garlic is completely obsolete because chorizo is already rich in taste and garlic. Why overkill something which is already good as it is?
