Ma'am I am traveling to Kochin next week for official work. I want to buy Kerala unpolished brown and red rice . Please advice what do I ask the local grocery shop when I want to ask for brown and red rice. What's the price approx. Can I buy 5 kgs and will it have a short life in Mumbai. Please advise
You can ask for "matta rice" there are many branded ones but most of them are slightly polished. Best to ask at local grocery stores or Jaiva stores. I am sure you can google "jaiva stores" in Kochi. They will be having unpolished ones. I live 6 hours away (by train) from kochi, in North Kerala. Price is under 70 Rs for a kg. You can also get good spices from Kochi, just ask around locally or you can get it from Fort Kochi there is a spice market....if possible visit Fort Kochi, you can hop on a local ferry boat and enjoy the beauty of the lake plus visit the Jewish synagogue and dutch palaces at Fort Kochi (if time permits). Hope this helps and have a wonderful and safe stay. ❤️
Anita Ramani boiled or par boiled red is what I have used in this video, raw rice rice will be without the husk removed or sometimes partially. Nutrition wise the raw would be ideal. Hope this helps you :)
I picked up a bag of raw red rice. Do you have a Facebook page? I can upload a picture to show you. Alternatively you can send your email address to anitaramani1atgmaildotcom.
Yes, you can...but you need to soak it longer as the raw rice is very thick and needs more soaking time to grind...you can also soak in hot water if grinding in mixie.

In the stores here in Europe, there are bags of 'boiled red rice' and 'raw red rice'. Should I buy the latter for more nutrition?
