Is the 2020 Chevrolet Malibu RS a midsize sedan BOOM or BUST?

  • The Chevy Malibu soldiers on trying to bring value to the midsize car segment.. The RS trim puts it smack dam in the center of the entire Malibu lineup. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 producing 163HP & mated to CVT transmission. Last year it received a major refresh on it's exterior, and for 2020 the RS get updated wheels. On the inside things may not feel very refreshed but there is plenty of room inside the cabin. I the 2020 Chevrolet Malibu RS a midsize sedan BOOM or BUST?

Honestly with all the rebates and incentives he mentioned it makes it so much more worth buying. For someone like me who's just now getting a good job and having the money for a new car its a nice car to hold me over until I decide to buy something much faster or nicer in the future after i move up in the ranks of my carreer. It's not fancy but for it being my first brand new car, I like it.

To be honest i love my 2020 Malibu RS, it’s super comfortable in long trips and it’s really good in gas. I have no complaints about this car, the car doesn’t slack on performance once the turbo kicks in it goes. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a sedan

@@juanloera6859To be honest, I would recommend it. Although the premier has the 2.0 turbo engine, the LT & the RS which are basically the same car with trim differences, I would pull the trigger if I were you. It’s a good daily, if that’s what you’re looking for. If you want a little more power/speed, go with the 2.0T premier. Unless that’s not a deal breaker for you, LT/RS is the way to go. I myself have the 2020 Chevy Malibu LT. Got it with 30k miles 2 years ago & it hasn’t given me not one issue, EVER, as it now sits at 89k miles. I get oil changes every 3,500 miles & run 93 octane in the car as well since it is turbocharged. All in all, it’s a great comfortable car and I would for sure tell you yes, it’s worth it man.
Hope this helps & that you find the right deal on your next purchase.🫱🏽‍🫲🏻

I disagree with many of the comments in that I think it’s a good looking cars. Styling is one of the best aspects of this car and has held up well. Surprised the pinstripe didn’t get a mention - this is a contender for among the last new cars to get one of those. Overall, this is behind just about every competitor, but it looks good.

I rented a 16 Malibu while on vacation and drove it from California to Colorado and it was a comfortable ride I enjoyed it especially driving thru the Rockies. Last year my car was totaled and I thought about the Malibu I rented. So I purchased an 18 Malibu LT with leather steering wheel, upgraded infotainment, same style wheels as the RS trim you reviewed but the 18 info screen in the middle of gauge cluster has a multi color screen instead of black and white. It’s not fast, luxurious, or got to have it factor. But I do like the ride and the weirdness of the car. Like to have something different then a truck, suv, cuv or the segment leaders Camry, Accord, Sonota, or even the Optima!

Turbo kicks in when needed and has power on the highway. Getting 30 in mixed driving and 35 on the highway with regular gas. Like the Apple CarPlay functions. Cloth LT seats are comfy. LT has heated seats, separate AC temp controls for driver and passenger, and has remote start. You may like the LT trim better than RS. No boy racer spoiler on the LT. Not a bad mid sized American car overall. My 2 cents! Like the snack references - room for YooHoo and twinkies!

But the Malibu 2.0T has a higher trap speed than Accord 2.0T and is 0.4 faster around figure eight test and leads this field.
"...the quarter mile in 14.3 seconds at 99.4 mph."
"The 2017 Malibu lapped the figure eight in 26.3 seconds at 0.70 g lateral average and pulled 0.88 g around the skidpad." Where the 6 2.5T was slower at 26.7s
The Malibu 2.0T blows the Mazda6 2.5T(33 mpg hwy) away in highway fuel economy with 37 mpg. Motor Trend
The Mazda cannot put the power down or cannot distribute tire grip in braking on the figure-8 test and will be two full car lengths behind at .4 in arrears at 40 mph speed during the 27s test compared to the Malibu 2.0T. The Malibu will be quieter, ride better and have lower NVH than Mazda, regardless of what the magazines reviews say.

I am currently renting a Malibu from Enterprise. Sharp looking car on the outside especially in dark blue. However the cloth on the dashboard & door panels is hideous. What really impressed me is how smooth the ride is on this car. Buttery smooth & just a pleasure to drive. It's a little slow but very quiet & good on gas. I very much prefer owning my 2021 Honda Accord but I have to admit I was impressed by the smooth ride & exterior styling of the Malibu. I'm not sure about the reliability of this car but if you can live with the ugly cloth on the dash, I would consider one of these as a second car if you can get a good price on a used one. Much better driving car than a 2016 Ford Fusion which I used to own that drove like crap (although the interior was nicer on the Fusion). I sold that horrible car after only owning it for a year. I'll never buy a Ford again. The transmissions on Fords are terrible & have delayed shifting.

the problem with GM as a band unless you get a one of the chevy/ Buick trucks/ truck based SUV or a Caddilac, all your going to recieve is a pile of cheap materials that might make it to 150,000 miles. Don't get me wrong I do believe that GM can make a good product, the problem is they want you to pay 60,000 upward to get a vehicle that doesn't feel like it was build in the early 2000's.
