  • The Chevrolet Impala is a full size sedan that has a very historical background. Under the hood of the 10th generation is a 3.6L V6 producing 305 HP & mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. On the inside the Impala offers plenty of room and all the technology you want while driving. Should Chevrolet gone in a different direction with the Impala? Find out all the details on why the 2019 Chevrolet Impala might be a great buy if you are in the need of a full size sedan.

I have a 2019 Chevy Impala Premier trim beautiful inside outside rides like a dream just a bit slow on the take off but other than that I would never give up my 2019 Chevy Impala for nothing every time I wash my car people ask me about my car I have had a dealership ask me if I want to sell it because there was a customer that was interested in my car cuz they saw it that day when I was having a oil change, no way. I put some money into this car, also by changing my rims put it more sporty and I'm going to be adding a sporty spoiler on the back of the trunk. I'm going to make my Impala look the way it would if GM had not got rid of it, and just make it more sportier looking even though it's a luxury sedan it looks like a sport car. People think I have money because I own one of them, but I don't. I love my car the only problem right now, is that it has a check engine light on there I have no idea why but the reading is telling me because of a faulty gas cap. I did change the gas cap two days ago, and the check engine light is still there what can I do about it? Any Ideas?

I know the ss is completely different from the impala. Not cost effective for them to retool / redesign the impala with a rwd/ ls3 platform. Due to mpg, sell rate, price. A lot easier to just sell the ss. And they failed at that too. People want mpg and value , not ls3 , 50k , performance . The ss is a great car, maybe if gm let Holden design the impala ss it would be ok. But left to gm it would be a fail.

No-one wants American made sedans due to reliability. A lot of, for instance, Japanese companies, have been making far more reliable sedans for a very long time. If someone wants a sedan most people think Honda or Subaru. If someone wants a truck or SUV, a lot of times they look to American companies due to reputation. Ford has done the smart thing. They understand the vehicle market. Plus, I mean it's a GM. The only thing that they have going for them is the C8. But as a first gen vehicle with brand new platform, especially from GM/Chevy, it's probably going to have a ton of problems.

This past May, I had the opportunity to drive a 2019 Impala LT with only 1200 miles on it, as a rental car in Dallas, Texas. Initially, when I made the rental car reservation, I requested a midsize SUV/CUV, but the rental car agency was out of that category vehicle when I arrived at D/FW airport, so they put me in the Impala instead. After a brief initial hesitation about driving such a large sedan, I found myself VERY impressed with the level of comfort, quietness, spaciousness, smooth ride, and great handling of this car, especially for a design that is 5 years old. The only downside I noticed was an initial hesitation in accelerating from a complete stop. I’m sure this is due to the older 6-speed auto transmission. The Impala even comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. I agree that GM should seriously consider keeping this vehicle and give it a mild refresh (LED headlights and taillights, digital instrument cluster, upgraded infotainment system, 10-speed auto transmission, mild hybrid system).
And this is coming from somebody who drives a 2018 Mercedes E400 Coupe as a daily driver.

Honestly, in my opinion, this body style looks good, even after 5 years. I just wish GM cared about heritage as much as they claimed they did, and just send this car out on a better note, even at a loss (not like this nameplate hasn't earned them billions), and just give the damn thing a turbo, or supercharger to push this V6 to over 400hp.

I bought my 2014 LTZ after it came off lease with 36k miles. It just hit 93k and it’s a smooth, solid and responsive as it was seven years ago. Repairs have been minimal with a side detection module replacement and a door handle and lock actuator that was replaced under warranty. All in all, a great vehicle and like this guy, Raiti, I don’t know why GM is stopping production of this unit. It knocks it out of the park in some many categories.

Dont know where these comments "zonking" the Impala come from. The car did well for GM but faced declining sales just like the rest of its competitors, the only other large sedan that come close to Impala sales is the Toyota Avalon which more than likely will now take the number one slot. Anybody who wants a good large sedan with a V6 for a reasonable should consider a used 2016/2017 Impala even a brand new one.

      @ Greg Holman
Your analogy couldn’t be more flawed.
Most modern “SUVs” have basically no advantages over this car.. and certainly not ones to the level of comparing Model T internet to Dodge Challenger internet.
They aren’t any roomier (and dollar for dollar they are less roomier). They don’t have any more usable cargo space because everything above the rear seats blocks vision and becomes a projectile. They don’t have any more appreciable ground clearance. And for 99% of the people driving, AWD is not a necessity or even a convenience.
These “SUVs” are almost all FWD based on unibody car chassis with taller and more muscular sheet metal with an adventurous sounding name... that’s it!
The reason why they dominate is because everyone wants to exude the adventurous lifestyle and try not to have the soccer mom image. But because everyone is doing the same thing.. you still look like a soccer mom. Meanwhile my minivan went places most people wouldn’t take these SUVs.
All I wanted was a quiet ride, lots of room, and creature comforts. I have a 28 foot motorhome on a heavy duty dually chassis for going camping on backroads. I have a utility trailer I can tow for lumber or loads of firewood (both of which you can get delivered anyways). And I can rent a full size truck for less than $100 a day if I need to do a dump run or move furniture.

I de-badged the rear, blacked-out the bow ties, and put SS badging and a Magnaflow exhaust on it. Everyone is always asking about it and complimenting me. The biggest single failing of this car was not in its design but in its marketing, IMO. The car's well-liked by owners, reliable, safe, and functional. But it never really had a pronounced presence and I am willing to bet many people buying full-sized sedans don't even realize it is still made. Further, especially given the higher tier trims get pricy fast, they could have updated the car on slightly shorter intervals, made several add-on options standard with the higher trim levels, and added some additional visual differentiation between trims beyond just the wheels IMHO.

I call it my little spaceship as the interior wraps around you from the doors to the dashboard and the Instrumentation is very user friendly. The front end is one of the most beautiful front ends and puts most designs to shame so I hate to see this person say he doesn’t like this or that I love the steering wheel of mine it’s steers like a go cart and has what’s called progressive steering and it performs like most V-8s I have played with quite a few v6 and v8s and taught them a lesson as the performance is crazy and the throttle response is the same . I hope they never get rid of this car.The one thing is that I never thought being a mechanic for over 40 years that I would ever buy a front wheel drive and still owning my first car a nova super sport with v8 and 4 speed all restored but I am truly Impressed and I am begging GM please do not stop production of this car...jk Florida.

I had to rent an impala for a road trip a while back, loved it. Easily one of the best looking sedans to me. It’s classy but also has a little American muscle look to it lol. Sad they’re going away

So many comments here, I forgot if I commented earlier here. Sometimes I am busy, and don't have time to watch all the videos and comment.
I had a black 2006 Impala SS with intimidating Flowmaster exhaust. That car was a blast to drive, but the transmission went around 40K miles, along with previously having problems with the shifter linkage preventing me from shifting back into park, and removing my key... twice. The engine was babied and not abused, with Mobil1 extended life synthetic oil from day one.
At that time, I didn't have the extra money to get the transmission fixed and have a car to use, and found it easier to get a new car, and downsized to a 2011 Chevy Cruze RS with less than half the horsepower. It was nice, and I have grown to like a smaller car, albeit lack of power, but it was the worst car I ever had. Hasn't been running since for about 3 years, and finally getting rid of it. My 2000 Chevy Impala LS was much more reliable, my best car I had, even more than my Buick GN. Before I got that, and realized I could have gotten a big loan from my 401K account, my good friend had a pristine, low mileage 1996 black Chevy Impala SS with Flowmaster exhaust
Never abused, not hacked up, nice window tint, and always clean and polished...
Anywho, back to this car. It could have been the perfect new and last Impala SS. The replacement of the 5.3L V8 in my 2006 SS with the 3.6L V6 had the same horsepower output, with less torque. Still, adequate, but maybe a V8 with about 400 HP like the Camaro would be nice, but they came out with the short lived Holden based SS, which did the job as the final SS.
This car in Premier Midnight Edition is very night, for what it was, a refinement of my 2006 SS. It was about the same size, but somehow, compared to mine, sitting in the driver's seat made me feel like a kid, and even more room in the back seat, a few more inches legroom. And the gignormous trunk. And the se rwt storage compartment behind the radio. I would gave to watch the video again, to nitpick details, but I pretty much liked everything about it, if I was going to get another car like this. But now I would pick a Camry XSE or TRD, or Maybe a Honda Accord Sport 2.0T over it. But it had the GM DNA Darth Vader mean look from the Buick GN. It could have gone with less chrome exterior. The only major things I would have done is put the Flowmaster Exhaust and legal smoke window tint. Even with FWD, it had that traditional GM muscle car feel and ride, and old school king of the road persona. But I have defected from GM for good, and if I had the money, I would get the Toyota Supra over the C8 Corvette if I went there.
Still, I really like this car as described, but like my SS, don't trust the Impala, and even that nifty secret compartment I'd something went wrong, and I couldn't get it open.
*Quickly watched the video again. Yes, so much room in the back. Interior nicely done. The rear seat 120 volt or 12 volt outlet can easily accommodate several dual USB adapters. And the trunk is huge! This car would make a great cab or Uber Black with the classy posh appointments, amble rear seat room, and huge trunk. I think if I had the money, if they still had one of these, I might lease it, and drive it as my last hurrah to GM, and move on to simethi g else after the lease, it if it had problems, and I had to turn it in.

@@RaitisRides I wish I still had that Impala SS. I hardly pushed it, and took care of it, but that transmission gave out. It supposed to be heavy duty, especially since I didn't abuse it, it was coming up for time to service it, but should not have failed. The other problems I had was that shifter linkage I mentioned twice, and changing the battery. It was so hard to do that by yourself, or even two people, and I shorted out the fuse box trying to get the clearance to change the battery, and my car sat in to
the shop for a month because they didn't have the fusebok at the dealership, or the supply center, they had to have a new one made...
It was otherwise a good, solid old school type car, albeit FWD, with really nice, easy to clean wheels. The 5.3L V8 had lots of power. But the Flowmaster mufflers gave it a whole new character that turned heads, scared people on remote startup, which I had fun with, and intimidating to other cars at the stoplight, but also made silly boys with their trashed rice rockets want to challenge me at the traffic lights. Smh. I remember when my Buick GN was almost brand new, and some GIs in a 2974 orange 454 Pontiac T/A pulled up a half car length behind me at the stoplight one night. When the light changed, I heard them stomp it, but I totally smoked them off the line. By the time they caught up, we were taking different turn offs. I drove my mom's 74 Buick LeSabre with the 455 V8, and that thing had power, but the GN had the incredible bottom end off the line, and could smoke the tires for 50' with a 3500 lb. car with a 231 V6 turbo and automatic transmission. That 455 was fun, but not eve a 4 barrel carb like the GS, and no sport suspension, but I know what it was like.
My Smog era 1977 Buick Regal 2 Dr with the 350 was a 170 HP slug, but could be fixed up if you knew how and had the money. I was in high school, so the only thing I did was flip the air cleaner cover fir that cool intake sound, old school style, until my friend helped me put in an aftermarket 4 barrel carb and 4" chrome open air cleaner. That car also had the chrome Buick GS wheels. I should have kept those, but got those Dukes of Hazard Style Genetal Lee wheels that made it looked cool, and ironically the same wheels that came on the 1984 to 85 Buick GN. I also had a then custom stereo zi saved up put in. It was a Sanyo bipamped high output 8 Track system, with those rear shelf Jensen Triaxial 6 x 9 rear deck speakers that were the thing back then. That car was the envy of my classmates and band peeps.
My GN had a custom stereo that blew everyone away. That was before the car stereo craze really took off. It was this cool Pioneer Centrate system, that looked like a mini VcR with flip down front door with motorized cassette transport for the cassette and cool LED lights and LCDs for the display, with Pioneer 120 watt amps, and a matching EQ with the auto volume adjust thstvus niw available in lots of car stereos. The only thing I didn't get was the powered aluminum plate subwoofer and an aluminum Kleenex sized box, because I didnt have a place to put it. That stereo sounded nice, but broke down later, so I had to replace it with a nice Alpine deck.

Great vid I wish they would do a refresh just adding a turbo and all wheel drive option to the existing set-up. I'd buy a 2020!

Thanks for reviewing this great looking Chevy impala.
I was able to test drive the 2014 model the 4 cylinder, and the V6. Both drove pretty smooth, decent handling, quite ride , but a little to pricey for the Fwd V6.
I'm a big fan of large 4 door car's it would of been nice if they would have made this a rear wheel drive car, plus a little more aggressive look like the Dodge Charger.

Not a bad car, but Chevy has an image problem. They need to have a redesign with a more international flair., I think the KIA Stinger looks much nicer. The Impala looks awful heavy looking.

It looks beautiful. And heavy is what it’s supposed to be, it’s a full-sized sedan. And it is a lot more stylish than a KIA Stinger.
