Dave - great informational video. When my Impala finally says "no more", I was thinking about a Malibu. You saved me a ton of time by summarizing the potential options I might have by going with the Malibu.
I have the 2018 LT and really like it. It doesn't have all of the features you showed but it has most, including the sunroof which was mandatory for me to buy it. On the mileage I usually average around 34 in the overall category between city and highway driving mixed in. But on the highway I can take a trip and if I drive at a moderate pace of 60-65 mph I will do even better with averages being over 40mpg. On a recent trip of around 300 miles one way from central AR to lower MS, my mileage read 42.1 mpg when I pulled into the parking lot of the hotel I was staying at. When I returned home 4 days later my average gas mileage for the entire trip, which included driving in the city for the time I was gone and then returning home was 39.8 mpg when I pulled into my driveway. The entire trip mileage itself was 900+ miles.

Anything is great when it’s new. The true test comes after 10 years of use. Before I retired my body shop had about 50 rental vehicles. The GM products that we owned were fine for the first year or two, but after that caused way more problems for us than comparable Toyota’s or Honda’s.

When my wife was looking for a new car in 2018, it was between the Malibu Premier and a Honda Accord. She chose the Accord because it has Heads-Up Display. This is my gripe with GM. They own that Hughes technology for HUD; they use it for the red lights in Crash Avoidance mode. Why EVERY GM vehicle doesn't have HUD in it is beyond me. That's my only gripe, though. I've always liked this generation of the Malibu. I'm sorry they're deleting the Premier and 2.0T, but there's still value in this model. Lastly, did I see correctly in the base model that it doesn't come with SiriusXM? Frankly only the LT is really competitive to the Camry, Accord, Sonata/K5. The other 2 trims are way too bland and don't offer things like standard LED headlamps. Not even a hybrid.
@@joro7304 not really though. At the very least, the Camry has some sportiness to it, though not as sporty as a K5. If your trying to say that a Chevy Malibu is more attractive and less bland in style compared to a Camry or any other mid-size sedan, then something is definitely wrong here.
@@joro7304 The Camry LE and XLR may seem bland. But the XSE and the SE versions are definitely not. The Malibu doesn't even offer a V6 which the Camry has. Camry has a premium looking interior. @@arhamkhakwani5851 I am talking about looks. Not performance or engines. Yes, Camrys outsell Malibus. But that is due to Chevy focusing more on their SUVs and trucks. I'm sure if Chevy offered a V6 on the Malibu, it would become a top dog in the mid-size sedan market. And I have driven both Camry and Malibu. I’m more into what features cars have in the quality of their engineering, Since she said a Hyundai was too expensive, as well as her daughters, Wrangler .

Great video Dave.
I bought a black ls i love it
Hey I bought a black LS too just four months ago. Love mine as well.
@@joro7304 I like the chrome grill on the ls better then the higher trim models. I wanted an American sedan that was affordable and good looking.
@@robertriley1569 Yeah, the chrome really pops out on the black exterior. I don't know why some people hate the Malibu. It is indeed an affordable stylish car that also provides a smooth ride. I really don't want to see Chevy axing this one like the Impala.
@@joro7304 True, I've done alot of reading there is a bunch of negative comments about the malibu. The sales numbers are high though and it's a nameplate that goes back many years. There's just a disdain for sedans in the 2020s unfortunately.
Don’t forget about auto auctions and other ways to get transportation. No one pees on my leg and tells me it’s raining!
I own a BMW but I wanted to get a gas saver for work cause I was spending a lot on gas I got the LT omg sooo satisfied with it awesome on gas an luxurious inside excellent on gas it’s nothing as my Beamer but I love it plus I’m a Chevy man 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Glad it is all working out!!
Yeah until u get 2 years into it then u have electric problems 😂
All those gadgets. More stuff to brake. What happens years from now when those electronic screens need to be replaced. I drive a 2008 Malibu Lt with a V6 from Shumocker. Its all I need. Great car.
Did you have the same complaint with you smartphone or tablet? I expect you petition to bring back roll-up windows and tape cassette as well. 🙄
@@jraheemjefcoat429 Well, we are forced to replace our smartphone after say 3-4 years. That's 400-600 dollars. Acceptable for most. But I don't want to do the same with a 24,000 dollar car. If electronics goes bad after 5 years It could be like 3000 just to replace it. Next year similar thing happens ----another 3000 to spend. I"m sure you heard, Its now 30,000 dollars to replace the 10 year old Chevy volt battery.
Unfortunately Chevrolet doesn't sell cars on the European market anymore. Living in Germany and I want a Chevrolet malibu :-)
They're called Opel's in Europe... or is Opel no more?
What is the negative and plus little button on the shifter? What does that do?
what about an rs with the 2.0t, pano roof, and the digi dash (from lacrosse, blazer rs models) ?? -
would i have to build it specifically??
Comparable to a Toyota Camry, or a Honda accord. Yes, unless you want a car that's well-built and will actually last.
The Camry all versions yes. The Accord with the 2.0t 10 speed auto yes. The Accord with the 1.5t CVT no.
If I have my radio on, put the car in park, then press the engine start/stop button to turn car off, the radio stays on.
Question is, how do I get the radio to turn off without opening the driver door?
@@BJ-fw1tm press and hold the radio power button (volume knob)
After the power button is pushed, the screen is black but still some info displayed in the lower right corner (temp, time, etc).
After 10 min, the display goes off completely. Any way to change how long that stays “on”?
@@BJ-fw1tm No, that 10 minutes is the battery rundown protection.
Can you show me a 2023 2LT with a sunroof when one comes in? Thanks in advance
Hi, what color is the white leather seat called? This looks really nice and bright.
I believe they call it... "white leather"
When anyone shopped for new cars in the 1970s, everything was an option. This base model Malibu LS Is a fully loaded vehicle in a base level trim. Is there any truth to the rumor that GM won’t produce a Malibu after the 2023 model year?
Awesome review.
Hi with the Chevy 2022 Malibu you cannot access the trunk from the inside of the car if you don't have a key fob or if you lose your key fob. How can you access your trunk without your key fob? That's the only way you can open your trunk because there is no button on the inside of the car crazy.
I can’t believe how dirty the Malibu LT is. It’s only got 22 miles on it, people need to be more careful.
Please...i just got 2022 LT malibu . what is the p button on the flat consol then there is another p little lever? ??? Thanks!!! Jan
The little lever is the park brake. Pull it up to set the park brake.. press down on it while you foot is pressing the brake pedal to release
We want Chevrolet in Morroco 🇲🇦 this car is very nice ❤❤❤❤❤
Great job, you have my dream job 😎👍😎👍
🤔 So I got a 2020 LT model, is it possible for me to get the 2022 LT feature with the Sunroof?
What about the wireless charger feature?
No Premier for 2023??? 😪
I thought, for sure, I'd see 20,000 when I opened this up.
$32000 for a Malibu LT…. kind of pricy… for what you get. For $32,000 you can get everything on this car plus AWD, Navigation, full LED exterior and interior lights, 18” wheels, a deck lid spoiler and a 5/60 bumper-to-bumper and 10/100 power train warranty… from Kia…. Just saying.
I saw a post on the drive that people are really buying these cars. My question is why does the Malibu have a cvt when the equinox have a 6 speed.
Wait when did all the malibus get cvts?
In 2019 1.5 went to the CVT. 2.0 turbo still uses 9 speed auto.
@@stepheng3667 didn’t realize that. Too bad they’re getting rid of the 2.0 in 2023. Now I’m sorta glad I bought a new fusion instead of a Malibu (back in 2021) since there’s no CVT
Is the Driver confidence package available for a 2020 LS model?
I just bought a 2022. An LT, but, l run High OCTAIN.. Runs better with a Turbo
Can you do Chevy Cruze 2014 or 2015
