      Scotty Kilmer, I have a 2000 Chevy C2500, GMT400, with a 5.7 Vortec and a NV4500. It's beat up, but I paid $500.00 for it. Then $612.00 for parts to rebuild the engine in my driveway. Now it has 320,000 miles. It's a gas hog, but a good solid truck. The 34 gallon tank makes me cry at the pump.

    I have a bi-fuel 2002 Chevy Cavalier with 1,050,000 miles on it. The original engine and automatic transmission were replaced at 700,000 miles only because a fail safe thermostat failed closed and blew the head gasket and I could tell the transmission was on its last leg. Engine was not burning any oil, that's what running on CNG does.

    Our Family owned a 2003 Impala and a 2007 Malibu both of them were driven up to 300,000 miles when sold used, still running good with no major repairs. But they both had the bullet proof 3.8L V6. Amazingly enough, on the freeway they got 30 MPG or a little better. I am still driving our 1999 Silverado, (first year of the new body style), 3 door EXT CAB, 2500, 4 X 4 LS and it is coming up on 400,000 miles, it still runs and tows like new. Scotty, I've watched your videos for many many years now and have used your advise for maintenance on vehicles which has paid off in the need to not have to purchase new vehicles every 2 or 3 years! Our Silverado was purchased in late 1998 and next year it will be "on the road" for 25 years. BTY, our Harley Davidson is a 1992 Fatboy and it's still "on the road" after 30 years. Keep up your great videos for the young people out there to learn "common sense" automotive maintenance.

      The federal reguations require 40 mpg manufacturer average in 2026. They must go electric sell enough hybrids to keep profitable trucks in production. If manufacturers are forced to only sell trucks that are electric, its likely bankruptcy. Some pickup truck owners will install new crate gasoline motors in their older trucks before they will buy an electric pickup truck that costs $70,000. It might be like the American version of Cubans keeping older cars on the road.

The other board members said their GM cars were very high quality. After some investigation Ross discovered the executive cars were practically hand built and checked very carefully for defects. Ross said you guys ottta visit your dealers incognito to see what junk we are selling... Of course none of them did and Ross eventually got the hell away from them.

It was a northern car and I moved south with it but it's been reliable and a solid truck. GM needs to get back to making their vehicles like they did in late 90's early 2000's. They had solid trucks and sedans back then. Those Vortecs from that era were bulletproof...could easily 200k with minimal issues out of them and if maintained right they are 400k engines. I bought a used 2012 Impala years ago that had 48000 miles. Today it has 225,000 miles now and it runs great. I had to have the alternator replaced and the wheel bearings but that's about it. The big problem I have had with ot is the clear coat is coming off.

      The 2012 Impalas have the 3.6 engine. Other than regular oil change intervals, what else have you had to do to it?

    • @denniskelly2177
      @denniskelly2177 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thedirtybubble9613 the 2 ongoing issues I have is the clear coat coming off on the trunk and the issue with the anti brake light coming on. The anti brake issue is tied in with the wiring that runs from it I believe. We have taken it to mechanics that
      replace the bearings and a year later the problem resurfaces. Car runs good and we just turn off the traction control.

    I have a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado z71 with the 5.3 liter. I bought it new and it now has 290,000 miles. It had the brake lines replaced recently, I had the water pump and alternator replaced a couple years ago. The truck runs great, the only thing is the clear coat was coming off and I had to have the hood repainted. It has never been garaged.

    The real reason why that car is still running is a combination of maintenance, really good driving, and most important one is when he mentioned the head gasket being changed.. Chevy took apart the whole engine and perfected it.. that’s the real reason why that engine will run past 800,000

    My truck is a 2000 C2500, the last year GM made that body style I believe. It's got 220,000 miles on it. I bought it used in 2002 with 76k miles. It doesn't hurt making a repair when needed because I haven't made a payment on it since 2007. It runs like a clock, no leaks, uses a half quart between oil changes at 5k miles. The ac doesn't work so I'm replacing the whole system for $500 doing it myself. AC Delco parts.

    Try Lucas injector fuel additive to clear those fuel injectors, it has worked for me. It also helps clean & keep direct injection carbon at a minimum. You moved from Texas, but 'Burbans and its cousins have been built in Arlington since 1996. Remember to keep up with government regulations, many components come from suppliers, that GM has been more consistent with quality control.

    2007 MALIBU Maxx here. Bought it with 150,000km 8 years ago for $3,000 and it has over 300,000km now. Rusty but just a great vehicle. AC blows cold and heat works great. Blower motor resistor was only issue (cheap fix). And then o2 sensor. If I could buy another one I would but it's too old of a car to cling on to now
