    They should have put the 2.0 engine in the RS, considering that that's supposed to be the "sporty" version of the Bu.

    Never really owned the new body style of Malibu. I use to own the 2015 body style before they did the refresh for the 2016 models. Looking at the 2020 model, I must say that is a gorgeous vehicle and I would jump right into one again. I stand by GM products for reliability!

    • @toddgiaro7657

      @@ScoobyGSXR750 Hey Scooby, here’s my story, I had a 1990 Nissan hardbody pickup, bought new with only 8 miles. 20 years later I sold it for 300 dollars with over 400 thousand miles on it. Same motor and transmission. I bought a 1998 Toyota Corolla new with only 20 miles. I gave it to my mother ten years later with 200 thousand miles on it. Same motor and transmission. I then bought a 2008 Chevy HHR new with only 44 miles on it. I gave it to my niece in 2014 with 180 thousand miles. Same motor and transmission. I then bought a 2014 Toyota Prius. I gave it to my sister-in-law in 2018 for helping with my mother. It has 150 thousand miles and running strong! Here is where things get ugly. I bought a 2018 Ford Transit Connect in 2018. 80 miles on it. In the two years that I had that rolling disaster I had to put brakes on it three times, the doors would fill with water and I’d have to drain them, the transmission locked up at 1000 miles, I opened the glove box and the whole thing broke and fell in the floor. No matter what I did I was continually putting air in one of the tires. The CV joint went out, I also had to put new struts and shocks on it. I don’t know how I got to 20 thousand miles in the thing but I had so many issues the dealer was forced to buy it back! I then walked across the street to the Chevrolet dealer in April of 2021 and bought a 2020 Chevy Malibu LT which was a hold over from the year before. It had only 120 miles on it. It now has 4000 miles on it but I don’t drive much at all so I expect this car to last me for years. So Scooby, I can understand totally what you mean about Chevy reliability but so far I’m happier than having a Ford! Wish me luck with the Malibu! Lol.

    Malibu has good bones and the basics, unfortunately, like most of the American brands, Chevy neglects to provide a model to satisfy the enthusiast. There should be a Sport trim level that comes only with the 2.0, sport suspension, better front seats and mild exterior changes / additions to set it apart from the other trim levels. At a time when sedan sales are lagging, they need to do something to keep those of us who'd like to buy American from having to go with an import.

Replaced headlight, battery, and front passenger side wheel bearing. That’s it. The car was a breeze. No transmission, engine, electrical or any other issues. Reached over 125,000 miles before she was totaled. That’s the reason I’m here, i want another Malibu. My friend has a 2014 Camry. Infotainment system went out a couple years ago. Now screen comes on but touchscreen works 2 days out of the week. I’ve also heard the horror stories of Honda’s transmissions. Nah, I’m good. Pricing is the icing on the cupcake, but better styling doesn’t hurt either. I’ll stick with Chevrolet!

    This is a handsome car, and GM really got the lines and proportions right. But Accord and Camry (ugly as they are) still thrive and own the sedan race on their long standing reputation/reliability history/resale values. People buy the Malibu and can brag that they "got a great deal" but sadly, this beautiful car doesn't otherwise get much respect.

    • @jdm1039
      @jdm1039 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @devongee1776
      @devongee1776 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jdm1039 I don't understand... What about this car is more attractive? People calling the class leaders "ugly"... More like unique ? (Toyota moreso than Honda. I don't like how all of Honda's vehicles share almost the exact same face). Even if I were so unwilling to get a Camry or Accord, the next to look at would be Mazda 6 and if I SOMEHOW don't like the Mazda 6, the more stylish choice would be the Altima and I can get AWD with that. If I want another AWD option I can try a new Legacy with way better interior than most of the class now since redesign. The Malibu just doesn't look good to me lol especially in boring rental car colors. That same ugly face that they have on the equinox and Traverse that's slapped unto a sedan and just takes up the entire front end. It's _gross_ ! Lazy oval shapes in silver painted plastic trim (I'm assuming material cuz I don't know if he said it) interrupted only by cheap looking black pieces. The climate control area just looks especially blah af (see Mazda 6 for comparison). All behind what has got to be one of the ugliest, or maybe just boring, steering wheels you can get in a new sedan. Don't know what the Ford ones look like but I doubt any of the Japanese can lose to that. And all of that comes BEFORE you consider GM quality vs. the Japanese

    • @jdm1039

    • @jdm1039
      @jdm1039 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@devongee1776 Looks are in the eye of the beholder. I agree with you on the Mazda 6 and the virtues of the Altima. Cheap plastic bits are in all the cars and I personally would not call the current Toyota grill styling "unique". I do think the new Camry and Avalon look much better than the last generations. As far as the Accord some days I see one and think it looks pretty good and on other days not so much.
      I've had 2 Toyotas in my family over the years and neither were trouble free or the popular perception of having "bulletproof reliability". A good friend of mine had a Honda Accord that was very unreliable with constant issues. He said it was the worst car he ever owned. I also recently saw a TH-cam video of a guy complaining about problems with both a Honda and Acura he owned back to back but was going to give them a 3rd chance. I believe the following based on personal experience and not what people on TH-cam say, many of them trolls. The "perception" of extreme reliability in the Japanese makes is exaggerated as is the perception that American cars are extremely unreliable.

    • @devongee1776
      @devongee1776 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jdm1039 Well for 1 I guess I'd leave you free to name a car that looks like the Camry, as for the reliability of your anecdotal Japanese stories, it still doesn't change the fact that Toyota continues to top the charts in reliability surveys and while I would also agree that people likely blow their durability out of proportion, that doesn't make them on an equal playing field with the Americans. Mechanics and owner surveys Nationwide and abroad complain about GM vehicles at a much higher volume than Honda's and Toyotas see... I can also agree that looks are subjective but what is not subjective is the fact that there are at least 3 competitors in the class that would snuff Chevy out on an interior quality contest and there're also ones that best the Malibu in fuel economy and QOL features. The Malibu is a good car to rent when you're away from your own. I will give it that. That is why they along with the Impalas can stay at Enterprise until Chevy also gives up on the American sedan market.

Yes, if u buy new then u should be good for a few years but staying power & GM no longer go together. Too many repeat issues!! Also, stay away from CVT for all models until they fix those bugs.

    Great review! What I like about the Chevy Malibu 2.0T Premier is you won't see them all over the place like you will with the Honda Accord 2.0T Touring, for example. The Accord is a very nice car, and I do like it a lot, but I don't like owning a car that you see all over the place. The Malibu 2.0T is just as quick as the Accord 2.0T, and it has just as many, if not even more features than the Accord 2.0T Touring. I just wish this car was RWD or AWD, but for a FWD car, it's still really impressive. Thanks for making the video! I'm looking forward to watching a new video about a 2021 Malibu 2.0T Premier from you in the near future. Keep up the good work!

I am 1st a big truck guy but I needed another car so I didn't want to spend a ton. This IMO is better than any car in its class, comfy, fast, safe and beautiful. Want LED lights? Buy a convenience package. Want advanced cruise control? Buy that package for $900. This is why I had to go with a foreign brand that offered MORE for less money. I own a used 2016 Malibu Premier. I bought it with about 8,400 miles on it for 10k under MSRP at $24,999. It has both confidence packages, but no sunroof. I do love the car, buuuuutttt the little middling issues with the car is turning me off of owning it now that it's a month and a half out of warranty. A few of the issues includes the computer that controls sensors went out. One of the parking sensor connectors came loose and beeped even if no one was in front of me when at a stop. For whatever reason the Radar for Adaptive CC needed to be realigned. And the big one that I was fishing a microfiber towel out of the spare tire well in the trunk (inflater kit, no spare) and found a pool of water soaking everything. It had probably three gallons or more of water in my trunk. Apparently the weak point was either the third brake light where the nuts come loose over time (mine was, but that wasn't the cause) leaking water into the headliner and trunk. In my case it was the weatherstripping around the trunk opening. Both were common causes for rear water leaks.
    I'm looking to get rid of it next month and possibly get a Honda Accord hybrid touring or just make a lateral move and get the 2.0t touring. I'm also considering the Palisade.

    Since the Impala is gone now they should put the 3.5 V6 in it with AWD.

    Note to GM: The Japanese and Koreans now own the auto industry. This is because of your arrogance and laziness. I have been looking for ANY reason I can find to buy an American car over the past 30 years, however, I simply cannot find one. Such a shame.
