    Andy gives us a masterclass in acting in this scene. Guy is stuck lying in bed, he only has his face to emote with and he just absolutly kills it. Every layer of emotion Alfred goes through in this scene from relief, hurt, anger, joy, you can see reflected through his eyes. And credit to Robert as well, playing this shell of a man whose spent a lifetime trying to burry his emotions, now having those emotions try to rise and break through his barrier. A key example of how excellent this movie is and really shoudl be the gold standard for what modern superhero films should strive to be.

      Fate killed Batman's parents. And the Authors/Writers of the comics are masters of Fate here in Batman.
      So technically, the Writers are the killers. They *had* Bruce's parents killed.
      Comic Book history mostly states "Joe Chill" killed them, but the main purpose was to ignite the greatest fuel for the fire that is Batman.
      Without their deaths, there is no Batman. And with no Batman, there is no Joker.
      I would go as far as to say if Bruce's parents survived, perhaps Gotham would have been villainless as Thomas Wayne was in the process of overhauling the judicial and legislative systems, but who knows and who cares. He dead and we have psycho Batman playing chase and detain every night.

    I was worried about them going the full "Bad Waynes" route so this subversion about it being a a desperate and botched attempt to help those Thomas loved was great.

    • @ShayLaLaLooHoo
      @ShayLaLaLooHoo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +35

      I definitely agree. It was the right move to portray the Waynes as good people with good intentions, who were held back by a corrupt society and mental health issues that people wouldn't understand/accept from people of their status. It shows that while Bruce _could_ try to dismantle the corruption from within, it's very likely that he could be stopped like his parents were, and therefore justifies why he has to be Batman. If the Waynes aren't worthy of being avenged, then the concept of The Batman would collapse.

    • @OscarASevilla
      @OscarASevilla 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yea, I never liked the concept of making Bruce's parents full on villains or corrupt. I prefer them actually being Good people. Saints? Not that either. But good people with moral values, yes. And if those people made mistakes or actions with good intent, but that just played out and resulted differently, then I can accept that too, and it even makes for a better story.
      Bruce realizing that some criminals aren't morally bankrupt, and sometimes people do bad or questionable things out of love or trying to do right by others. Makes Bruce question and analyze the crime in Gotham even more.

  • @sullivandmitry1416

    This is personally a perfect representation of how a traumatized “stoic” person acts. It’s not like Michael Corleone, it’s not like “insert any other badass stoic character.” He’s strange, he’s clearly sensitive, he clearly has connectivity issues, and he feels awkward. He has unresolved trauma, he has severe connection issues, and he thinks he’s being strong but he’s just off putting to save himself the trouble of losing someone again.
    He is blind to obvious answers because he cannot connect, he cannot understand, he just needs to be “justified.” It’s an emotional look that has been sorely forgotten about when adapting Bruce.

      @@MrWolfchamp-xi3cuTrue, but remember at this point in the movie he wasn't exactly a good person. He was more concerned with inflicting pain on criminals as revenge and was apathetic toward civilians. This is why he didn't show any care toward the man who was attacked at the subway, didn't show any sympathy to Selina when she was grieving for her friend, and obviously didn't give af about the people on the road. Toward the end of the film he realized how harmful that behavior is and how it's counterintuitive to what The Batman should stand for.

    This scene kinda epitomizes my biggest issue with this film. Even here, in what seems to be attempting to be the movie's most emotional scene, the movie lacks in emotional resonance for me. This problem is even more apparent to me given what I was expecting from Matt Reeves, who bowled me over emotionally with his Planet of the Apes films in a franchise that I have nowhere close to the emotional investment in that I do in the Batman franchise. This film is style over substance, and that style is so cool, but Batman & Robin was able to infuse more emotion into Bruce and Alfred's relationship despite being surrounded by camp than this film was. I love Pattinson as Batman and am still waiting to render judgment on his Bruce until we get a movie with more of Pattinson outside the cape and cowl, but his Bruce performance in this particular scene isn't great, so that doesn't help either.
