Replacing the rear brake calipers on W126 W123 W124 - includes tools needs and venting the brakes

New feature is that I have turned on the CC automatic close captioning for folks who would like to follow the video along what I say in text form.
This video is about replacing the rear brake calipers on W126 W123 W124. The rear calipers pistons are prone to seizing up on you from time to time. The farther out they are due to pad wear, the greater the chance for them to do that.
Also covered here are the tools needed to get this job done and the two different brands of calipers used on these old Benzes (Bendix and ATE). There is also a tip about preparing the refurbished calipers for mounting. Finally I am covering how to bleed the rear brakes after the new calipers and pads are installed.

Apparently the later Bendix uses the ATE cross spring plate. I replaced my front calipers to Bendix and the ATE pins fit. Weird

Over the years I noticed too that rebuilt cores that are supposed to include the hardware very often do not include the correct hardware in the first place.

@@straybenzes There's a post on Benzworld saying that the later Bendix calipers uses the ATE style hardware kit. And few others confirm that they have this on their Benz.

@@craftedwithart That could be. What makes this so hard to tell sometimes is that refurbished calipers come with a myriad of hardware components. I cannot tell you how many times I have gotten the incorrect parts. Fact is that the round wire hardware including the pad holding pins do not fit the caliper that is meant to have the sheet metal type springs and the other way around.

Did you replace those brake hoses or were they fairly new?

The hoses were almost brand new.
