Replacing the rubber boot is not too bad and totally worth it. This set had 241k miles on them and they looked brand new once the old grease was cleaned out. Whatever you do, do not buy cheap after market axles.

    The main problem with an old expansion valve is the o ring at the end cap that leak . You can buy a pump to empty the system in an approved container for little money .The pump is around $300 , the container $ 60 . This is what techs use on houses a/c . Will also do cars nicely . So, if you fill a system like 134a , then have an issue , empty it with the pump , fix the problem , put the gas back in . look on e bay , dozens of those pumps there .

    Change front brake hoses while you are at it. The correct hose is the Centric 150.35001. It has metric fittings and is 17.7 inches long. Avoid parts houses that try to sell you hoses that are only 14.4 inches long.

      That is very frustrating for you and it is not easy to help from this far away. Looks like you have ignition. Focus on fuel pressure to the fuel distributor. Also make sure that all the filters including the little pre filter that is installed in the fuel distributo are clean. Did anyone mess with the idle mix screw? That is unfortunately another frequent problem if techs do not know what they are working with. Good luck!

    I just did this one on my 1987 300SDL. The two bolts on top of each mount are the worst. It would be good to replace the hardware if possible - mine was almost stripped 😱 What brand mount did you use?

      I have used Lemfoerder and this time it was some obscure off brand one.

    Thank you Ralph. Got it. I saw your video on outside ambient temperature testing the lives inside the cluster. My LCD screen is fine and light illuminates but the temp doesn't display on the screen. Would you be willing to repair mine if I send it to you. You would be compensated. Thanks

    Hello, I have a 84 500SEL with serious engine shake from idle up to about 2000K RPM, the mechanic said it had the wrong spark plugs and has changed them but is now saying it is still doing it and thinks it is the injector pump? I've never heard of an injector pump...any thoughts and Danke ahead of time.

    • @straybenzes
      @straybenzes หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, you may want to look for another mechanic. If it is spark plugs it is usually one or two to cause a shake but you can pull the plug connector and that flushes out the bad one. There is not injection pump on that engine. He may mean the fuel distributor. I would start with the easy stuff: fuel delivery and pressure. Then the idle mix, and only then would I tackle the fuel distributor and air mass flow flap adjustment etc. Good luck!

    Hello Ralph: I've followed the channel for a long time and suggest you do an excellent job explaining particulars on the w126 chassis better than most. I have a 1989 300 SEL and reaching out to you for some suggestions/advice. I removed the cluster simply to clean the smears inside the lens by removing all the internal dials (speedometer, tach/clock, etc.) When I reinstalled all the components and reconnected the wiring/connectors, etc. the "low oil level" stays on while the oil pressure gauge behaves normally. I looked at the oil sensor and its connection on the engine block/oil pan and seems to be in order. The engine oil level is normal (not low). The wire connection to the oil pressure switch is in order. I tried disconnecting both connections (oil pressure switch and oil sensor level) and the "oil level light" in the cluster remains lit. I can't figure out why. Have you any recommendations or suggestions? Thank you

    • @straybenzes
      @straybenzes หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there! The oil level switch is using ground (-) and when it opens the light goes on. So it is either the level switch malfunctioning or there is a break in the wire or connections between the switch and the cluster. The easiest way to establish it is to check if the switch is closed assuming that the oil level is normal. Find the cable connector closest to the switch. Disconnect the plug. Take a multimeter and measure continuity between ground and the switch. If you do not have a multimeter simply take a wire and connect it to the disconnected wire leading to the cluster. If the light stays on it is the wire or the cluster plug connection (that also means the switch is ok). I hope this makes sense. Good luck.

      Thanks for explaining. Can you share a diagram or photo of the wire that goes from the switch to the cluster? I don't know where to find or locate it. Thanks again. You're a great help.

      @@nabeelel-amir1580 Here is a video that shows the location of the oil level sensor. It is located at the very front on the driver side. The wire is brown/black. th-cam.com/video/KC-Fqbap2p8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Nv918dzGBIHzT6bU&t=118
