    On this video I removed an alternator from a 2006 Toyota Corolla. Procedure should be very similar for 2003 to 2008 Toyota Corolla. I ended up putting the old alternator back on because after putting on new alternator the car was still having problem.
    Turns out the car just needed an idle reset. I reset the idle by turning on the car and letting it get to normal operating temperature, then I turn off the car. I turn the key to on and turn it back off, turn to on again and turn it back off, then I turn the key to on for a third time and turn all the way to start the car. I pulled the parking brake and shift the car to drive gear. Waited inside the car for about 5 to 6 minutes and the problem was fixed. Idle got reset.

    Thanks for the video. Had to replace one in a 2008 Corolla. When you see that battery symbol on your dash lights - that typically means your alternator is not functioning. To be certain, disconnect negative battery terminal while car is running. If engine cuts off, replace your alternator. And for anyone that ends up rounding the 14mm bottom bolt like me, use a 14mm IRWIN bolt grip socket to remove it (Lowes). I wasted so much time trying other techniques when this thing worked perfectly the first time. I also had to replace that bolt as well - it's a M10 x 1.25. I couldn't find it in any of the automotive stores near me, but luckily Lowes had that as well.

      Just had my battery die on me and replaced it. Drove it a couple of days and the new battery died. Knew it was the alternator and tbh it was an easy fix for me being an 18yo college student

      Also in my case for some reason the nut on the back that shouldn't move at all it was moving. So after I put the bitter 14mm socket, I rounded mine, I noticed it was moving constantly but not losing up. I had to probe the nut on the back with a tinny flat head srew driver and that was when I could take it off. By the way I had to remove the radiator fan to have more room to access the nut on the back.

    First of all, you did a masterful job of placing the camera where we could get a good view of some of that close-quarters work!! Especially removing the clips, etc. Thank you!! Secondly, I'm about to swap an alternator out on a 2008, and I am beyond thankful that I don't have to do it while holding a camera!! Yes!! Makes my whole job seem easier!! Lol!! Thank you SO much for this helpful, helpful video!!!!

    I used a regular BREAKER-BAR, but when I put the 19mm socket onto it, it wouldn't fit into the small space. So I used an angle grinder to cut away about 5 mm of the open end of that socket, and that worked for me, the socket now fit into that small space. I then used an opened-up metal coat hanger to act as a long 'finger' to loop the belt back onto the sockets. The coat hanger rod is straight, with a 2" 90-degree bend at the far end.

      First, make sure you're turning it the correct way to loosen. Second, as you can see in the video, without the pipe I probably wouldn't be able to loosen it. I use the pipe as a leverage. I don't remember what I did, but in the video looks like I connect the pipe to a short ratchet.

    • @WelkingVue
      @WelkingVue  ปีที่แล้ว

      I get viewers asking about socket size on my car repair videos. I usually don't mention typical socket size because I assume people working on car would have a set of sockets.

    • @johndoe-aka-joekano2445
      @johndoe-aka-joekano2445 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WelkingVue You might want to assume some people working on cars also have teenage sons that sometimes use said socket sets. I watched a better Vid that said the sizes so was able to find what I needed to use before I made the trip to where the car was located

    • @WelkingVue
      @WelkingVue  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All it takes is trying. I didn't know the socket size when I first worked on it. Most bolts and screws I remove I have to try 2 or 3 different sockets before I get the right size. Now if someone wants to know the socket size, so they can go buy it, that's a different story.

    Would be easier if you removed the plastic engine cover

    • @bushleague3472
      @bushleague3472 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      On this era of Corolla, that plastic cover has a habit of wearing through the water jacket sensor wire after enough miles. I'd reccomend pulling it off right away, and only putting it back on to sell the car.

  • @miaohmya92
    @miaohmya92 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What would happen of you loosened the alternator bolts whilen it was still tensioned? Is it possible to just unbolt it and use that slack to remove the belt from the pulley? Basically as a way to skip using the tensioner for removal?
