Peter, Thank you for the great walk through! That's all I needed to do it myself. What a great service to us regular guys who can not afford a mechanic.
I watched your video and changed my alternator today, thanks very much. The bolt that required ‘extra power’ certainly did need some. I did not realize there is no clearance for a socket head so you will only be able to get a spanner on... took me an hour to find something suitable. The rest of the job only took 20 mins. Perfect, thanks again.
at first i was thinking to myself. "Man this guy is hard to understand, geeze this video isn't going to help me at all." but after I watched this video and a whole bunch of others from different people, your video was the most informative and easiest to follow along with. You helped me get my girl's car fixed and I appreciate it. Keep up the good work!!!
Peter, you have saved me a ton of cash by watching your videos. Thank You so much for taking the time to post these. I’ve repaired a few of our family cars just by following your videos. 👍😊
Thanks for your great videos. I've never touched anything more complicated than a light bulb on a car but I managed to take my alternator out and put it back in with your help :)
I recently had car trouble at 10pm and felt stranded until a friend helped. I never want to feel that again so I am learning from your channel on how to take cake of my 2008 Toyota Corolla. Thanks for the informative videos and keep them coming!
Dude you inspired me to do it. Once you used the pipe (Extra Power as you say) I knew you were a good guy. Changed out my bad alternator on my 2005 Toyota Matrix. Took me about one hour. Runs like a top! Keep up the good work on the videos. Gracias!
If you need to change the alternator, then it would also be a good idea to take out and clean the VVT Oil Control Valve and filter. Cleaning these can solve the "tractor noise" some people have.
Thank you for this video, it was very helpful for me when changing out my alternator on my 07 Corolla. I did not need to loosen the first bolt which you used the pipe to remove and I was still able to remove and put the serpentine belt back on without any problems. The trickiest part was getting the alternator out after removing the bolts. The mirror trick worked great! Finally make sure to buy the right alternator, take a look at the one in your car before ordering. There are Denso and Bosch alternators depending on the year and you need to purchase the right one as they have different electrical connectors.
Thank you so much!! Just used your video to change the alternator on my 2005 Corolla. All the instructions were spot on. I had to get hold of the 19mm socket, got a full pack for £10 from wickes. The hardest part in all the job was getting the belt on and off otherwise plain sailing! Thanks to you saved myself £60 labour.
love it. way to go. you are foreign, don't have perfect english, and speek with an accent, but this is still an incredibly thorough tutorial. I cant believe how easy you just made that look. thank you sir for saving me 300$. no joke. Im going to pick one of these up at a junkyard and install it for 31$ instead of 150$ for the part plus 150$ labor. the still close up shots are great, and you sir are a natural teacher. keep it up!
I have to repair the oil level tube because it is broken. For this I have to remove the alternator to have access to it. Nice video as all the rest you have!! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge for free!! I hope there were more people like you!!
Thanks for trying to help. I called my mechanic and told him what's happening. He said there is a magnetic field when u put the alternator close to the engine and that's why the alternator won't spin. U need the engine and the belt to spin the alternator. So I put the belt on and everything works like a dream. I had to replace it because it was making noise.
excellent presentation Mr. finn, I am not a mechanic but by viewing your presentation I now have an idea to remove and replace my alternator. much thanks buddy. keep up the good work Arnold
Thanks! I didn't have to loosen the 17mm bolt, though. I spent a lot of time trying to loosen it until I realized that it isn't necessary. I could slacken the belt using the 19mm bolt right off the bat.
Thank you so much for this video! Very easy to follow and your leverage with the pipe was a good tip! :-) Although DO NOT use that tip to leverage the hex (i snapped mine off the tensioner) :-( was still able to get the drive belt back on but with a lot of mucking about. live and learn! Anyway - thank you Peter! Fine instructional video!
good instructions. I was doing it on the 2003 Celica GT. It's pain on the ass to get the unit out for there is much less space to work but in the end it worked out fine. Thanks for your instructions...
I am going to DO IT! My voltage has been dropping for a month now. started at 14.1vdc and now it is at 12.8vdc. Thank you for you time. My next job after this will be replacing the rear drum brakes.
Thanks you for your video, it was really helpful, for those who got AC, it might be a little bit more difficult, since there's somes hoes and links related to the AC, I had to remove my cooling fan to take out the alternator easier and a trick for everyone, it's might save you a lot of time to have something that hold your serpentine belt, mine slip out of the crankshaft pulley, ac pulley etcc, I had to put it back! Thanks you
I have a Toyota Corolla E11 4efa motor the best in the world very reliable and tommorow i'm gonna replace my alternator, thanks for the video helped alot :)
Hello Peter, Thanks for the post, I am replacing the alt on my sons cars and this helped! Where are you from?....great accent. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge
I did this today, car runs smooth now. Had issues while running 2000 rpm to 2400rpm with the car sputtering slightly and didn't know why it was doing that. Put a new battery in three weeks ago after it was dead. Still had the issue, then the battery light came on last week and an I knew what was up. Changed the alternator and now it runs smooth and strong and no sputtering at all. Happier than a pig in s%^t.
Also on American alternators that are made in Mexico, the pulley doesn't spin freely like urs does, u can spin it with ur hand, but it doesn't spin as free as urs does. I went back to where I bought it and asked for another alternator and it spinned the same way. The guy at the store said it should be like that because it's creating a charge. But my car runs great now.
Hello Peter, thanks for nice step by step video, can you pls. do the fixing part, I mean belt fixing, until the final screw attached. Thanks once again.
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctorPeter giving the description And the close picture of the tensioner has helped me a lot. Now I have wiring problem of engine and transmission. If you a diagram or pictures please let me know. Or I can send pictures where I have a problem.
Hi Mr. Peter. Thanks for the great video . Is there anyway you can help that I could fix the same alternator. It shows the battery sign on dashboard. Can I fix the same alternator?please help.Thank you.
you dont need to loosen the 17mm bolt. use the 19mm box end and use two 5 inch small turn buckles and attach one open hook end to a front hole of the metal around the radiator area to the left side. the 2 turnbuckles should be hooked together. put the other hook end to the top end of the wrench and start tightening the buckles. it takes very little effort to pull the wrench and the belt is pretty free. safe and easy. good luck.
Thanks for the video. I just don't get that 8 people would give a thumbs down to this video - how can you dislike someone sharing their knowledge! But then, 125, 126 with me, gave a thumbs up|!
Hi Peter . I found your videos and they are great . I have a question in regards to alternators . I have the same corolla that is in the video . My alternator is reading very high (over 16 volts) . is the alternator bad or what could be casuing this ?
Hi Peter is noticed a small wire (fastened with an 8 mm nut’s) is broken and I can’t see the other end. However even when the alternator light at the panel inside car is off. The alternator is not charging the battery and is depleting the battery. I hope if I find this it could solve the problem
I got a question, I put in my new alternator and my little black wheel won't spin on the alternator, is that fine? It did spin right before I put the alternator in and tied the bolts.
Hi, interesting. Try again with tongs, the wheel should rotate very easy. If tongs don't change situation, reassemble alternator again. Look also my other video, how to check alternator bearings. Your alternator wheel should rotate same way. You will find my video using Google: How to check alternator status Toyota Corolla: Bearings, Coils and Copper plates.Years 2000-2008.
tshorse is correct you do not need to loosen the lower 17mm bolt only the 19mm as that controls the tension spring on the tensioner pulley allowing you to loosen the belt until you can remove it.
No I haven't put on the belt yet, the alternator is installed without the belt being on, I can't turn on the car yet. I tried spinning it with my hand and it's not spinning, but right before I installed it it was spinning. Is that ok?
