    Always loosen the spark plugs a turn or two then blow out around the plug to remove dirt and keep it from falling into the cylinder.

      why it will just blow out the exhaust and how would dirt get under all the covers anyway

    To remove the plastic clips from the cover, use a flat base screwdriver to pry at all sides of the clip a little at a time, applying some WD-40 may help to loosen it up, avoid prying at only one side forcefully as it will break the clip.

    • @RichardHennick
      @RichardHennick 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That cover is there for a reason. It stops sand and other crap from getting down into the plug recess. From there it would fall down into the cylinder head when you take the plugs out. Not generally recommended for long engine life afterwards.
      Without the cover in place, you would need to thoroughly blast out the recesses with compressed air *before* you even dare to touch those plugs with the socket. Even so, you are taking a big gamble.

    • @stevemccooleq

      I also change my own spark plugs. I use genuine Toyota parts and as per Toyota, they don't need adjustments, you don't need to worry about the gaps. Sobfar I haven't had any problems with my corolla 06, been driving it for almost 16 years 🙂

    • @jerejoy5196
      @jerejoy5196 ปีที่แล้ว

      Iridium is oem. Either ngk or denso. Check the manual for part numbers. Can buy them anywhere. Don’t gap iridium plugs with a standard gap tool. These plugs should come pregapped and ready to install. If you want you can check the gap with a feeler type guage. Don’t try to save money on plugs these iridium will last 100k + miles.

    I would also suggest blowing with an air hose around the plugs to blow out any dirt before you remove the plugs. You can also suck it out with a shop vac. If the gaskets are leaking there could be some oil around the plugs.
