    Are you sick of hitting shots fat? Are you wanting to stop duffing or shanking your approach shots? The makers of the Square Strike Wedge claim that their product could be the answer to helping your short game, as well as helping you play better golf.
    The designers of the Square Strike Wedge make it so that the club is heavy, like unto a putter, and is meant to have a more stable swing, similar to swinging your putts. Can the Square Strike be the answer though? Could it be better than having a Titleist Vokey wedge, Callway Mack Daddy Wedge, or Taylormade high toe wedges?
    Upon reviewing the Square Strike, we thought it would be necessary to do a test vs your common Sand Wedge. Check out our results in the video!
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    As mentioned with the putter grip Tyson put on his Square Strike, check out the same grip that he has for his Bettinardi Queen B #6 in this review video: • Bettinardi Queen B #6 ...

    For those wondering if having a putter grip with with a flat edge is illegal on a wedge, that is correct. Tyson does not plan to use the Square Strike in competitive play. The putter grip also serves as a good training aid with the Square Strike.

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe Whitt dang! Sorry to hear about your clubs! The CBX is a pretty cool club, however, neither of us have used it ourselves. Tyson was using Vokey’s before, but kind of had the YIPS with his chipping, so he got the Square Strike. He said the square strike actually served as a great training aid, and after a few rounds and practice with it, he has switched to some Taylormade High Toe wedges.

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe Whitt I would go with whatever you feel more comfortable having in the bag long term. Tyson basically used the square strike as a training aid, and then switched back to using Vokey’s and Taylormade wedges. But the square strike with the standard grip is perfectly legal, and would be fine to keep in the bag. It kind of only serves one purpose though. Probably not the best club for full swings and gapping your wedge distances.

    As I've chunked it and bladed it around the green and seen far better players than me do it, I had to give this a try. I think it's a great club to have in the bag, at least until my chipping gets better.
    Also like you guys I was put off by the green colour which was all that was available when I was ready to buy. So I purchased a similar club made by Mazel from Amazon which was available in black. It might be useful to point out that these clubs are available in lofts of 35, 45, 55 and 60 degrees.

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrSitemaster2, thanks for watching, interestingly enough Tyson found that the square strike worked like a training aid for his other wedges. Due to the weight of the club and how they tell you to hit it created muscle memory for him with his traditional wedges to play around the green. Let's just say, the club worked miracles as a teacher! As for the different lofts, we were aware and decided to review the most common loft. As for the Mazel brand, it looks very similar and most likely performs the same, it is nice to have more color options there.

    I just got the black square strike delivered today. I hit a few shots in the back yard. I am intrigued by it. I have an Adams 37 degree chipper that I like. I ordered the 45 degree square strike. The black will go nicely with my Ping G 425 hybrids. My impressions from the back yard are positive. I really like the way it feels. It was very very easy to get the ball in the air and hit it straight. I think its going to be a real weapon in the bag. It has a good following from various reviewers. Stacked golf loves it. The weight and size of it feels like a real advantage. I cannot wait to get it out on the course this weekend. Great review. I really liked your insight and comments. they made a lot of sense to me. Yes, a putter grip on any club except a putter is illegal. Same with a 2 sided chipper, however the purpose of the putter grip was to help Tyson's mentality for using a putting stroke and overcoming the yips.

    I just bought one of these and there is a definite learning curve with it. I needed to work with it on the practice green to get consistency but my bad shots with this club were infinitely better than bad shots with a 56-60 wedge . I used to chip with an 8 iron to try and avoid poor results but this is more forgiving and controllable. When testing a product like this rather than 6-8 shots from one spot I like to put down 6 balls (3 on my wedge and 3 with the SS) in different parts of the practice green. That way the lies and distances vary and I fell I get a better idea on the performance of the club. One other thing. The original grip
    is longer so it is easy to choke up on shorter shots... Really like that feature I'm a new subscriber and looking forward to more content! Thanks Guys

    As much as I like to use my wedges, this club helps selections around green. Saved me quite a few strokes on uphill puts and longer greens. I have also found it's a great trouble club...under tree limbs or need to snake one through? Goes straight and puts you back in fairway. Using the putter swing definitely gives confidence in not getting tangled in a tree on backswing. I replaced my 7 iron and went to a hybrid 6 to open slot in bag.

    Your group with the Square Strike was great, very consistent; only your sight path needed to be tweaked a bit on account of the varied terrain. Good demo! It makes good sense to have this club in the bag. I ordered the 55-degree version, which is similar to a sand wedge, however, the Square Strike will have a more friendly disposition than a sand wedge on questionable surfaces owing to its rational design.

    Nice review. I carry a 45 PW 50 GW and 56 SW. Also have a 45 Pyramid Pharaoh wedge which is much more upright with a larger (wider) sole that I use for 40 yards and in pitch and run and some chips. I prefer to putt if that is an available option. I am a 73 year old senior with a 10.5 index. My grips are all midsize plus one extra wrap which helps.

      Thanks for your comment. Tyson speaking here, I think one thing Brady and I both understand about this game is you play what makes you score better and have a good time. There is no shame in playing something like the squarestrike if it helps you with a shot that is troublesome for you. The other important thing is managing what 14 clubs you should play in your bag. I will be the first to say that although the squarestrike does a really good job at chip and runs...it is not as versatile as a wedge can be. In the end it comes down to what you decide is the best fit for your bag and where you need the most help.

    I enjoyed your take on chipping but I think that if you’re doing it with the idea of putting it in your bag or not it should be done with a legal grip on it. I have had a tour edge bazooka club 37 degree in my bag for about 6 years and all the grief I take for it is short lived after I hit it a couple of times 😉. It is definitely not a one trick pony as I use it sometimes as far out as 70 yards when the lie dictates the shot. I am far from the best but as a 13 handicap and slowly getting better at 59yrs old it allows me to spend more time practicing on other parts of my game.

    Great video just subscribed, exactly fits my dilemma, just two questions, did you consider the 55 degree option and how would a square strike perform on a tight lie ?
    I’m debating getting one but must decide on the loft , also the c3i interests me ??. As re what club to take out , I would def take out a long iron I think
    Chipping woes are so common, I play off 6 , yet my chipping in competition is horrendous, it’s not too bad practicing but just collapses when it matters , lessons haven’t helped, so drastic measures required, im well beyond snobbery and pride to put this in the bag , I have a golf buddy to totally bedevilled by chipping, far worse than me and he is a very good ball striker , but man his short game is just non existent and will soon force him to quit , I quitter 7 years ago over it but back again trying

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Alan, one thing I will say about this club is it does one thing. Gets the ball to pop up and roll. Nothing fancy whatsoever and you are somewhat constrained to just the bump and run. I'd say the C3i is an entirely different club and won't fix the woes. I think the higher lofted square strike might be more versatile in the sense of stopping a little better. Whichever club you get will need some practice to know your height, runout, etc. As for tight lies, the thick sole helps to prevent dig and works well in those situations.

      @GolfAscending  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! And yes, a pitching wedge would be a more apples to apples club when chipping greenside, however when thinking about replacing the Squarestrike with something in your bag...you wouldn't remove the pitching wedge for this purely because you can't do full shots with the Squarestrike wedge. That is why we chose the 54* wedge as a suiter for a replacement. Hope this helps!

      @GolfAscending  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robrobbins4906 yes you can do full shots with a sand wedge, but the question at hand is if you were to replace the square strike wedge with a club in your bag you wouldn't be replacing it with the pitching wedge you would replace it with either a sand wedge or a lob wedge. The pitching wedge is far more important for gapping than the other two wedges. This would only be the case if you currently had 14 clubs in your bag and needed to find a room for the square strike wedge. Hope that makes sense.

      True, the lob wedge is definitely a tricky club for most, it just depends on the individual. When I was going through chipping yips the club I would have pulled out would have been the 54. The 58 at the time did a lot for me and could do things no other club could. A putter grip on this club makes it illegal. I would recommend using the same grip you have on your high loft wedges. Also if you don’t go with this club do not buy the ones that are double sided because they are also illegal under the USGA. So to recap single-sided only and no putter grip and then you’re in the clear. I use Cleveland’s version of a chipper and it is incredible.

      Yes, read the pinned comment, we are aware it is illegal to use a putter grip on this club in competition. Because of the nature of this club and how you are supposed to use it, Tyson put the putter grip on there to help re-train himself how to chip. Having the putter grip reminded him how the stroke was supposed to go...like a putting stroke. The club isn't in the bag, however it serves as a training aid whenever the yips might come around. If a club like this were to go in the bag, you would need to have a different grip on it.

    Is it still in the bag ? A year later ?

      Jada Mane, I still have this club, however it is not in the bag. I will always hold onto it for the sheer fact that it helps me overcome the chipping yips! So I guess in a way, it is not part of my 14 club setup, but it is something I consider to be a training aid that helps me from time to time if I ever run into chipping problems down the road. Thanks for the comment!

      @@GolfAscending thanks for fast reply. I got a 45 and 55 on the way. I chip with 36.5 inch one length but I figured if I can just use the pendulum stroke on they 35.5 70 sumn degree lie it will make things much easier. So far in my three years I’ve always enjoyed chilling and done some magnificent things as well while chipping … check out LionWoods he ain’t hard too find

      This very well could do that for you. The Squarestrike really simplifies chipping by not doing anything fancy. Literally pops the ball up in the air and gets it rolling on the green.

    Changing the grip to a putter grip makes the club non conforming to USGA rules. Ok as long as you use a regular grip.

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, read the pinned comment. Club was mainly used as a training aid to help recover from the chipping yips. Really doesn't matter if the club is non conforming unless you are playing in a tournament.

    Putting a putter grip on this club makes it nonconforming, but perhaps you knew that.

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  หลายเดือนก่อน

      yep, you are correct. This was something used more as a training aid with the putter grip. When I had the chipping woes, I wasn't playing in any USGA event lol! It did help me get back to the basics of chipping which really helped me at the time!
