    I've got the Ping ChipR and I'm telling you, it's done absolute wonders for my score. I struggle with GIR, so having a chipper really helps, especially if you're struggling with consistency chip shots. If you're a mid to high handicapper, put your ego to one side and try it out

    Got a Cleveland smartsole 4 C wedge at the beginning of the summer, after seeing the Mark Crossfield review. I had reservations as I had a Cleveland Niblick chipper several years ago and never really got on with it so I gave it to my dad. I really gave the Crossy wedge a a fair shake and learned that like any club you still have to practice with it. It does make runner shots around the green very easy to execute but again you still need to practice to get consistent distance control. Through practice with the chipper I learned that it can be used in so many more ways than just those putting stroke style shots around the green. It's become my go to club from 90 yards in. Since the beginning of the summer when I was struggling to stay in the low 90s I'm now consistently flirting with breaking 80. Now this isn't all down to the chipper, as every facet of my game has improved this summer from tee to green. I will say that my play with the chipper is the most reliable part of my game.

    I've got a 50 G for 60-110yrd half to full shots, a 60/6 for situations like yours at the end of the video where I got to get the ball up quickly, and a 49deg chipper for the vast majority of my around the green situations. It has simplified my process and forced me to stop teetering on flop or bump n run when deciding on how I'll attack the lie.

    I tried an old second hand chipper. It was not all that easy to use. Then I tried a Wilson Harmonized style ( look like the square strike) with more of a 8 iron loft ( 36 degree?) and it was easier to hit off tight lies, but i found distance control more difficult. I think the PW loft of the square strike would be easier to control run out maybe? Any way the chipper is now in my beginner wife's bag, but I sneak it into my bag for sand scrape green courses.

    I got a two pack off Amazon for $90, got the 45 & 55 degree for my son to help him approach and around the green. I started using them and damn I got to say they work really good. I use the 45 similar to a pitching wedge or to bump and run a bit further out from 100 yards in, and the 55 all around the green mainly short yardage. Luckily I can hit my wedges also but when I don’t feel confident I steal this club just in case! 😆

  • @2bNIKEt1

    I always liked the idea of a chipper. The Ping Chipr looks great. But I have one strange issue. I hit right handed, and putt left-handed. Its an eye dominance/alignment issue that putting lefty fixed... im much better for the change (going on 11 years now) but I do struggle with stuff like mid Iron chipping or a belly wedge cause i just dont have that movement right-handed. I either get too strong with a mid iron or not delicate enough with a belly wedge. Really sucks but oh well

  • @davidgordon4386
    @davidgordon4386 ปีที่แล้ว

    It comes in a 55 and a 60 as well. I have the 55 and I use a true 58* wedge for sand and flops. But the square strike is a money maker. It’s a go to club for sure. Almost any thing 50 yards and in that isn’t a manipulated hit gets the square strike.

  • @pokey47
    @pokey47 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@alexetchesgolf That's fair. Confidence is everything. Whatever makes you comfortable.

    • @tezzlacoilz
      @tezzlacoilz ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont think its as simple as the fat sole. The weight of the head is way heavier (more like a putter) than an 8, 9 or PW so its more stable for its intended stroke. Shaft length is the same as a putter so around 34-35" so you dont need to grip down, and the lie angle is way more upgright to promote a straight back and through stroke. And of course like you mentioned, the sole has tons of bounce/"fat" to help turf interaction, especially from tight lies. It all depends on the golfer, their skill level/comfort around the greens, and especially cost/benefit of losing a club somewhere else in their bag to fit this in. Even a sub-10 handicap who has a lack of confidence around the green or has chip yips would be far better off playing this and two wedges, rather than your traditional 50, 54, 58. Im decent enough around the greens and i still am very tempted to try the ping chipr as it looks like point and shoot, but i cant bring myself to drop anything from my bag
