I bought the 4 Max scout recently and it's a beast. It doesn't really weigh that much, no more than a smart phone. I actually have been carrying it every day since I got it and it does food prep well as well as cutting up boxes. I think a lot of people get freaked out by specs but honestly if you want a knife that just feels beefy and strong the 4 Max is the right knife.

I literally just ordered one to replace my ZT 801 that for whatever reason had the detent fail. If im gonna carry a knife, its gonna fucking be able to disable someone in a defensive situation. These micro-blade flippers like you mention are NOT terribly useful outside of light survival scenarios.

These are easy every day carry’s for me. I own a few smaller traditional style folders, still big by most peoples standards which are wayyyy to small for me. But i rotate regularly through the AD10, 4 Max Scout, Espada Large, Voyager XL’s in Clip Point and Tanto, a Voyager Vaquero XL and a Talwar XL. I carry some other’s as well from Cold Steel, Emerson and Spyderco, but nothing with a blade less than 4in. I will carry my Espada Large in basketball shorts. Almost always have a fixed blade as well. I am very thankful for Cold Steel in particular because there not afraid to make large folders. Everyone else wants to make these little sub 3 in blades. Somebody actually making knives for people who can carry them and prefers large knives. I don’t have any issues carrying the AD10. I prefer having the capability to do way more with my knife and maybe it doesn’t pierce plastic well, but it still does. It will do more than most if i need it too. I have a double edged fixed blade that pierces amazingly. Not trying to come off abrasive or rude, to each their own, thats just my strong preference. Love your videos Aaron. Been watching for years now. Hope y’all are enjoying the road. If you come back through Texas some time and are looking for a good bible believing Church to visit, i know one. Thank you sir.

Hi Aaron. I have had 6 Cold steel knives so far with S35vn , I gave away the Code 4 and the Bushranger I had the Bushranger for almost two years and the Code 4 for over a year I loved them both and they held up really well but felt my friend whom I gifted them too could continue to show them the love they deserve. I swapped carrying the Code 4 last winter in exchange for the pro lite clip due too cold temperatures. I love Cold Steel and their S35vn , sometimes like what I'm getting too is that it's not always critical. Since last spring-summer I have been edc'ing primarily the CS Range Boss , the fit and finish and operation is perfect the steel is ehh but it did come Cold Steel sharp and does sharpen easy and sharpens back to Cold Steel sharp. My main point is I love my Range Boss almost as much as my Broken Skull but currently the Broken Skull is only available on the secondary market so I carry the Range Boss because I'm not worried about replacing it if something happens. I read in the comments here that edge retention is more important than initial sharpness but that's subjective , I just watched a video on the DBK channel where they tried to destroy an expensive knife wich had horrible edge retention but still got the job done the knife prevailed and it's excelled at what it was designed for . I'm slightly hesitant about recommending the Range Boss to everyone and for $45 dollars , material wise compared to say a Ka Bar folding dozier it's some what over priced , BUT in your case Aaron for what your doing currently I do recommend you check out the Range Boss , I don't think your going to be blown away but do think you will enjoy appreciate it's functionality , action and ease of maintenance and carry. Thanks again for another great video . Thanks

I chose the S&W 642. Small enough for concealed carry and light weight (aluminum frame and steel cylinder). The enclosed hammer prevents snags and is a safety feature preventing cocking of the hammer and “hair trigger”). 38 special plus P round would probably be effective against a bear, particularly if defense round with hollow point. Big pocket clip reason: Big pocket clip will help distribute the weight of the knife more evenly across your pocket line. If it was skinnier… then all that weight would be supported by a small area and probably pulls your pocket down more. Think of it as an appendix holster, if the clips are farther apart, itll be more supported and in theory more comfortable… if that makes sense?

👍 Good overview, but I believe we may disagree on our preferences for the 2 knives highlighted in this video. I like them both, but …
I provided my comments on the Cold Steel 4Max Scout in your review of that knife.
The Cold Steel AD10 accomplishes everything I expect from a folding knife while approximating the durability of a small fixed blade. I was able to process food with it, except room temperature tomatoes where this knife more smashes through than slices through.- no other food prep issues for me. For camping, fishing, and hunting this knife seems well designed and built. When my Victorinox Huntsman SAK is not enough knife the Cold Steel AD10 is fast becoming my go-to knife causing me to be unfaithful to my beloved Buck 110 primarily due to the tri-AD lock mechanism.
Repeating my comment about the 4Max Scout, I do not consider either of these knives or my Buck 110 as “pocket” knives, they are just too large & heavy. I carry mine in a belt pouch.
Of course, I removed the pocket clip because I basically don’t like them and on this knife it served no purpose for me. I did notice improved ergonomics without the pocket clips on these Cold Steel knives, but that could just be personal preference.

The Ad-10 is a folder that can take on the tasks of a fixed blade, hunting knife, a tactical knife, a bushcraft knife, a fishing knife, a camp knife, and more.
Sure, it won't be perfect. But I'll get the job done.
Anything with an axis lock, you're going to have to worry about the omega springs breaking and the blade collapsing under heavy spine pressure.

Having all of these knives, the S35VNs + the Lights(10/15/SR1)while the 10 is a great knife, as I own a bar in addition to a machining company, with much of my knife usage being warranty voiding activities myriad time a day, the AD10 Tanto is in my EDC rotation along with the AD15, Adamas manual and the Hinderer XM-24. The AD15 is in my pocket probably 75-80% of the time. I like the smaller blade belly though I absolutely adore the Scorpion Lock as as your grip pressure tightens and increases, so to does the stability/strength of the lock mechanism.
That being said, if one is looking for a folder field knife vs. a fixed, the Ultimate Hunter, which, like the 15, has a smaller blade belly, which really makes a difference if your skinning, cutting & gutting game. The UH is the call, hands down, no questions.
I'm not going to ramble any more than I have as to the reasons why, though those who hunt know of what I speak and if ya don't, it's irrelevant anyhoo😊
Having both the 4-Max and Scout, I know that I use the knives listed above for serious heavy duty activities, though I couldn't imagine what someone would need either the 4-Max or Scout for😂🤷🏻‍♂️
They're great for collectors or conversation pieces or just to put a lanyard on it and beat the sh!t outa someone, lol

I’ve tried using 4” blades and they aren’t up to some of the tasks I need them to do. I wear carpenter jeans and the XL’s fit just fine in my back pocket. My Talwar is about as big as I can comfortably fit in my pocket. My Rajah II is a bit over my limit for comfortable carry. My Espada XL is an absolute “no can do”. 😂 When I got the Espada XL I told myself I would carry it for a week to see if I could. Nope, I made it for 2 days and couldn’t take it anymore. I reverted back to my Voyager XL’s. I really do like the Talwar though with the S35VN and G10 scales. I’m not a big fan of the blade shape though, it has way to much belly. I'm not sure. For a big knife I prefer the 4max, for a pocket able knife I prefer the code4. The AD10 actually feels a little small - the choil is tight when choking up, the clip is obtrusive... A hair bigger with a deep pocket clip might have been better. At least Etsy sells clip replacements

The sweet spot for these kinds of folders is their ability to legitimately replace a 4-5” fixed blade while fitting inside of a small edc/travel pouch.
