    I do really like this knife. Very handy, very solid, nice balance between size and still being easy to carry. The jimping thing seems to be so random: the Ultimate Hunter (similar size and price to the AD10) also has the jimping milled into the lock bar like the 4Max Scout.

    • @MattRoseKnives
      @MattRoseKnives  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, not really sure the design point behind the kinda half-done jimping

    My AD-10 was butter smooth out of the box and even better when it got broken in. I disassembled mine and ground on the lock bar spring a little bit to lighten the lock bar release. She’s a beauty now.

    The most important thing for me in a folding knife is to stay open until i want to close it, all else is supplemental. The Tri-ad lock does that and until other knife manufacturers will start using it, i will purchase only Cold Steel folders. However they have so many models with fucked up blades and handles that you don't have too many choices for practical use. AD10 is a good knife, but if it was me I would get rid of that useless hole in the finger guard and the lanyard hole, and I will definitely reduce the size of the pocket clip because this one looks and feels like a shovel. If they would have made the front part of the handle identical to that of the Recon1 it would have been perfect.
    Thank you for your work. Best regards.

    Great Folder! The AD10 has 6061 Heat Treated Aluminum Liners, not Steel. These are some of the best Folders Andrew Demko ever designed. Cold Steel was lucky to have Andrew Demko allow them to use his designs and Locks. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

    They didn’t jimp the lock bar because of where the locking bar cut out is located to lock the knife open. If you really push down on the locking bar and look towards the front of the bar from the side. You’ll see daylight through the cutout where the lock bar seats into the locking notch on the blade. Cold Steel could have done finer shallower grooves for jimping on the handle and lock bar and it likely wouldn’t have compromised the lock strength.

    Very interesting video. The 4 inch is referred to the cutting edge of the blade, not the lenght of the blade.

    I love this knife. If your budget is tight, the AD-10-LITE is 40 bucks lower and yet basically just as good, for practical purposes. I bought the LITE too, not so much because I "need" it but because by buying it I'm voting for its existence. I go back and forth on what to carry as EDC. Voyagers sometimes. Today an AD-10 is in my pocket. Tri-Ad lock 4eva.

      There's a vast difference between "slightly inferior" and "vastly inferior", and the latter doesn't apply here. AUS-10A will do everything that most occupations need it to do.

  • @LowLumens

    They didn’t jimp the lock bar because of loss of strength. They rather keep it strong as possible to save fingers than focus on looks in that area. Great review. I have this and dozens other CS knives. Love the triad lock. I love the ad10 but use my 4 max elite more.

    • @MattRoseKnives
      @MattRoseKnives  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I get that… but how much loss of strength would it actually be? I feel as if it would be negligible at most

    • @jamesstephenson2346
      @jamesstephenson2346 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MattRoseKnives none. Literally. Idk what he thinks hes talking about, but he's talking out his ass. If cold steel said that, it was a dodge because "we built this to a price point" didn't sound as good. Which is FINE, the ad10 is a fantastic knife... but be honest about it. Jumping the lock would have an infinitesimal effect on strength.

    • @malachi487

      This is my first CS knife and I think with all the great reviews that it's a good choice... but I as well want the 4 max:)

    They don't put jimping on the lock bar because it will thin and weaken the lock bar at the jimping points with the removal of extra material....basically it won't be able to handle 600lbs maybe 500 or 400 instead they test the knives with ;)

    • @MattRoseKnives
      @MattRoseKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get that… but how much could it really weaken the lock bar? I can’t imagine it would be all that much. The 4max does it and it isn’t hurting for strength at all

  • @danielsmit3524
    @danielsmit3524 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Would you say this carries easier than the 4max scout or the same? I'm looking at the 4max scout, but the AD10 is about the limit for me to edc. The 4max almost looks the same size closed, although bigger open?

    • @MattRoseKnives
      @MattRoseKnives  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely Carries easier than the 4max. More balanced and lighter in pocket

    • @haymaker299
      @haymaker299 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with Matt's reply. I love both but the AD-10 usually wins for my EDC.

    • @FriedPi-mc5yt
      @FriedPi-mc5yt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve got both. The AD-10 is much easier to carry. But I carry the 4 Max Scout more because I like 4” and larger bladed knives.

    • @jimmycricket7946
      @jimmycricket7946 ปีที่แล้ว

      4 max has a nicer stonewashed blade finish, it's much tougher and is designed for chopping. Ad10 also has its advantages but it depends what you're looking for. As far as Bush craft I would def go with the 4max.

    Yeah the pocket clip sucks, demko isn't known for practical pocket clips. I still prefer the 4max bc of the stonewash finish. It's also a better chopper and probably more indestructible then the ad10.
