    The fact that coldsteel is normally what $130 the shaman is double the price without double the toughness. Ive never cared about a few ounces but I don't wear skinny jeans an i trust tri-ad lock way more then a fancy liner lock. Im coldsteel all the way. Steel is gimmick that is just a money thing.

    Nice comparison! I’ve got the Manix 2 in Cruwear, and it’s one of my most carries knives. The ergos are phenomenal and I get basically an Axis lock without fear of the springs breaking (happened to my previously owned 940 twice!)

      I like them more than Spyderco’s typical G-10. It tears up my pockets.

    Thanks, Kevin, for a great review and comparison of the two knives. It would probably be interesting to see a Spyderco Shaman vs Cold Steel American Lawman comparison as well. These two knives are almost identical in size and, I believe, area of use. The Spyderco is a bit heavier and thicker with a sturdier blade. The American Lawman, looks less appealing aesthetically, however, it has a stronger lock and is lighter to carry. In my opinion these two knives could be considered interchangeable.

    I went on a hard use folder buying spree. I mean, besides the hinderers and such I own. But I wanted something I could beat up and not care. I bought the Benchmade Presidio 2, Microtech Socom Elite, Cold Steel AD10, Spyderco Manix Backlock, and the Shaman. The only knife of those I've sold is the Shaman. That comp lock cutout bothers the hell out me. Plus my first one had a faulty lock. Spyderco gave me a replacement but I couldn't bring myself trust it. Idk, of those knives I listed, there's something superb and special on each. But what's special about the shaman? Contoured g10? Idk wasn't enough for me.

    I wish major knife companies word invest more into the lock mechanisms. I find that compression locks and liner locks are guillotine hazards. Personally if I am putting $450 into a knife it should have a much safer lock than a liner lot.. ETA to put any major live company in the spotlight but I would definitely pay $100 more for a Henderer with a back lock just for the safety and security it would provide. Just saying if you’re putting a lot of money into a knife it should have a safer locking mechanism. I am definitely investing in a cold steel just because of the locking mechanism. It asshole me on a knife with a safety feature that other knife companies should replicate.

    For everyday purposes, the shaman is a clear winner. I have an AD15 and while it’s great, it’s not even in the same league unless you’re an *actual* hard user. The shaman kind of a medium duty knife that carries like a smaller knife. The Cold Steel is an enormous, heavy, crazy knife…it doesn’t have that same “disappear in your pocket” character. The steel and scale options are also vastly superior for the shaman. They’re both fun but the AD10/AD15 is an all-day party in your pocket. The shaman is a scaled up Native with a flickier lock. I dunno, I just don’t see them as being comparable aside from being “big”.

    I feel if you need the strength of the ad10 you might as well go with a fixed blade

    • @carlostovar8585

      I think it’s more about the design with the ad10. Specially now that they sold the company

    • @Phaminator525
      @Phaminator525 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean some people want the convience of a folder and strength to do harder tasks. This is where the ad-10 comes in.

    • @JohnFrumFromAmerica
      @JohnFrumFromAmerica 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Phaminator525 can you describe the tasks that you might do that would require the thickness of an ad10 blade

    • @Phaminator525
      @Phaminator525 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JohnFrumFromAmerica who knows what I might have to do with my knife. At work I'm cutting thru cardboard and rope all the time. And it would be nice if my edge didn't chip everytime I accidentally hit it against the cement. All my other knives needed a new edge because there steel and toughness aren't the same as my ad-10. Also , not everyone wants to carry a fixed blade even when they go camping. Shocking huh

    • @JohnFrumFromAmerica
      @JohnFrumFromAmerica 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Phaminator525 the chipping issue is more to do with the geometry right at the edge. A blade with a thiner stock but same edge geometry as the ad10 will be just as chip resistant but would peform those tasks much better. Also s35vn is not that tough of a steel compared to lower carbide steels such as 14c28n so if chipping is really an issue a thiner stock blade in a tougher steel might be the better option. The only tasks I can think of that would require such a thick stock are chopping prying batoning which one would never really want do with a folder anyway hence why I am asking what it's purpose is other than cool/fun factor.

    The shaman is a big step up in the user category for spyderpho but it just cant get the work done thats the ad 10 and even the 15 to an extent can manage its just so hand filling the cruware and micarta is a no brainer and if soyderco wasent so gd greedy it could come standard but alas ... iv been day dreaming fur a s35 or up blade for the tuff light this afternoon . Whats to even chase from soyderco right now just average offerings that make overpriced we and reate look atractive by comparison

    While I loved the Shaman for the short time I owned it, I found it too heavy for a daily use pocket knife. I recently swapped it for a 940 and both me and the other guy are really happy with what we now have. As for the AD10, well, you may as well use a fixed blade which would be stronger still and more than likely lighter to carry.
