    I love the advice about taking the food out at night & then giving them it back in the morning so they see you as their food source. I shall try it with my two budgies. I’ve only had them a month & they are happy for me to be up close, but they do not like hands. I probably shouldn’t have bought two together, but they looked like a bonded pair, so I couldn’t split them up. Everyone says it’s easier to train one budgie at a time.

    • @davidthebirdguy517
      @davidthebirdguy517  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Yes it is much easier to train one budgie at a time. But it can happen if you have two. With time and dedication that is. If you are having issues you could get separate cages. So you can train them one at a time. I would say get one to be very comfortable with you, then the other one will notice his/her friend is safe on you and he/she might not be as scared.

    I taught my budgie to like my hand after a few days with millet. Instead of shoving my hand and fingers at her. I offered her millet first. Then I started tucking my fingers under the millet and she didn’t mind them so much.

    Some new ideas about taming Budgies. I loved the idea of taking the food out at night. Also, I think spending and 1-1/2 to 2 hours with your bird gives them some good bonding time. Talking in a calm, low voice also is very good idea.

    Did you teach him how to spin or does he do that on his own? So freaking cute and charming. I am thoroughly impressed with your training skills. You can always tell how a human treats their bird by the way that the bird behaves in his general demeanor. Basically, their behavior is a reflection of the owner. Your birds are very energetic, enthusiastic and excited to be in your presence. Thank you for having an enormous heart. Thank you for taking outstanding care of your feathered family, and thank you for all the advice. You are truly making a difference in the parrot community. Everyone should watch and take notes. You have a very special gift and I genuinely believe you could be very successful if you ever considered becoming a bird trainer. Anyway, thank you again. I send you and your babies so much love 👏💛

      How long did it take to train Mo? I love all your videos. Going to put them on your chop recipe today. I have 4 parakeets. 3 in one flight cage, the newest is in a cage by himself, he's very young. That will be the one I will be trying to train. Thank you for all your videos. I've watched a lot of videos from different people and yours are by far then best. Don't stop making them. Your an awesome young man. 😊

      @@dawnmason3823 Thank you so much! It took me about 2 weeks for me to target train Mo and get him to step up. But remember it is a life long training session. So I'm still training him to get used to being in different areas of my room and on my shoulder, etc. Eventually your budgie will be pretty tame. Dont get frustrated if it takes time, It WILL!!! Just enjoy the process and take it slow and pat yourself on the back when you do something right and see progress. Have a good day!

    Sit near the cage and talk to ur feather friend every day. Talk to em like they are are 3-5 years old. Then move ur hand to the cage slowly and try feed em some millet. Make some sounds with ur mouth that they can relate to. Say kissing sounds ect.

    Wish I saw this earlier. I've got my first bird 7 days ago and everything is going well. I let my bird come out of the cage yesterday and he will land on me or hop on my hand when I put it up to them. Although I basically followed all these steps I do think maybe I followed the wrong guidance and I'm going to fast. I don't want to lose my burds trust and scare it or force it to be around me.

    • @davidthebirdguy517
      @davidthebirdguy517  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Sounds like you are dong good. Make sure to target train your bird, it allows you to get them places without forcing them and acts as a trick so your relationship stays healthy. Just dont rush the process to much and make sure to have the bird on a good diet to make training smoother. I have videos on this. Keep it up, I see a lot of new bird owners struggle and then give up. But trust me with time and work your bird will grow to love you!

      I have had my 2 female budgies for almost 2 yrs and they are still not finger tamed. I know they like me maybe because I bring the food. I have tried to let them out of the cage but it always ends up in disaster when I have to catch them to put them back. I have tried the method of turning out lights and having a night light by the cage but they don't go back inside on their own. They have a large flight cage but I feel like a bad bird owner because outside the cage is not fun for them.

    • @davidthebirdguy517
      @davidthebirdguy517  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@patriciaelg1464 It sounds like you are having some trouble. I would recommend starting the training process over. This means you should keep them in the cage, especially since you would have to catch them to put them back. This is an easy way to break the bond. But yeah, I would say just keep them in the cage, it might be best to have two different cages. Since both the birds are scared of you, there fear will build off of each others. Try keeping them in the cage and talking softly to them every once and a while. Put them in a room where you are a lot. And just be in there presence. After a couple weeks, slowly open the cage and see if they want to come out. Let them do the coming out, dont interfere. If not that's ok, give them the option for about 20 min. You should then start target training them inside the cage. I have a video on this Its the part two to taming them link here - th-cam.com/video/DsM0u_YpSAw/w-d-xo.html Keep this up and eventually you can try and target them on your hand and as I show in the video. At first dont take them out of the cage on your hand, remember the cage is there safe place. And you can benefit from that. YOU ALSO NEED TO HAVE A HEALTHY GOOD DIET. SEEDS AS THE MAIN DIET ARNT GOING TO CUT IT. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS REINFORCE A GOOD BEHAVIOR WITH A TREAT. Check out BirdTricks TH-cam channel for more great advice.

    Sometimes pet store animals are pretty tame because they see people walking past them everyday. I'm not saying that their 100% gonna be tame though, I got a crestie from Petco in like 2022 and she HATED me so much. If I touched her the would instantly run to the other side of her tank in less than 2 seconds(she tolerates me now). And I got a bearded dragon there once and she was very calm. I have never gotten a bird though, but I'm gonna assume that they are less calm and tame because their tiny lil things and have probably only been touched once in their life

    Hi, We’ve had our budgies for a year Now. One was much more comfy with flying around outside of the cage than the other. Sadly 😢 that bird flew away on 1/1/24. And didn’t return. We left it’s bird house outside for 3 cold days /nights and searched the neighborhood, w/no luck. Our other budgie seems a little sad. We want to get another do you recommend, or should we just keep the one bird? SN: we miss our budgie so much it was the more active “wild” One. That didn’t mind being touched or carried on our shoulders/finger’s. It would fly from the rear of the house directly back to its cage , which is why we was surprised when it didn’t return.

    • @davidthebirdguy517
      @davidthebirdguy517  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, sadly this can happen :( I'm so sorry. It probably didn't come back because it had a sensory overload when it escaped and didn't know what to do. I would recommend training the one you have now until it is very comfortable with you. Then get another. The reason is because if you get a new one and the old one is not already comfortable with you, their fear will build off of each others and make them both scared. If you train one bird, then get the next, your new bird will learn quickly that you are safe because he will see the other trained bird around you. Hope this helps. Check out BirdTricks channel for more helpful info including how to recover a lost bird. :)

      Yes, what happened to you is what I call the baby phase issue. When people first get their birds when they are baby's they will love and cuddle them. Baby birds are very tolerant but when they get older they learn how to not be so tolerant and owners break trust almost immediately because they try to cuddle them again this time the bird is not so tolerant. It is also very difficult to train to fearful birds at once because their fear will build off of each other. I would recommend implementing a proper diet, sleep schedule and separate them. Then go to this website birdtricksstore.com/ I would recommend purchasing the BirdTricks Training course for beginners. You can also purchase a consultation for further help. The BirdTricks TH-cam channel is also a great resource for your situation. Feel free to purchase more courses to help you. Do as much research as you can and mainly DONT GIVE UP! If you do this will make it harder to deal with later. YOU GOT THIS! It may seem over whelming but it took me a couple of years to learn what I know now.
