People really don’t think good for budgies as they are widely available and are cheap. They need love and affection as any other bird

@Afaan Usman your correct, these birds are very colourful and playful if hand raised. It's confusing why they lock them up when they could have such a great life with an owner who actually wants it.
I agree! Budgies are underated and birds shouldn't be in cages if they are perfectly fine. I have friend who's boyfriend owns a budgie. It's a wonderful bird from what the boyfriend tells me, but my friend hates it. She says it's too loud and messy, to which I try to politely reminder her it's a living being with it's own agenda. I also may have jabbed at how the horses at the barn she goes too can be just as loud and messy. She just waves me off and grumbles😑. Some people just don't get it if they don't want to hear it

Top mistake: accepting the budgie as a "scared little bird" and never giving them the space to be the confident bird they can be.
My budgie has been out o his cage for 14 hours and cant get his bk in his cage he is about 17 weeks old I got him about a week ago thnk you
@@betmckenzie4164 any age of budgie doesn't matter when trying to get them back in the cage...just off the light where the cage is located(hope you have a lamp somewhere, that'll give some light) then get your budgie on your finger and wait a minute or 2...then move your budgie in to the cage.
Note: budgies find slight darkness..a time to sleep...they also can't see well in without light.
I wish to God I knew this back when I had budgies . Some never got tame. One was only semi tame. My parrotlet never tamed and ruled the home. I was always so down these little jewels weren't tame. I see now I just didn't know any better. It's great to know all of this now

Yeah same but with love birds I have 6 I was semi bonded with one then I lost that bond somehow someway I scared it I doesn't let me poke it anymore
My budgie i have id say is semi tame. She will step up but only when she wants to and when she is out of her cage she wont let me near her unless I'm holding millet
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to discover how to train a parrot to talk try Pycanta Parrot Tips Protocol (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my friend got great success with it.
Quick question cause I really need it 😅. Do you have to force your bird out of the cage on the first week or do they have to come out willingly with you?? Because if you’re not supposed to force them out, i don’t know how I would do it because if I were to stick my hand it the cage, or even just put treats near my bird, it goes crazy, so the only way I would be able to get it out would be by forcing them out. I’m scared I’m just gonna have my bird grow up terrified of me.
I had parakeets from the time I was about seven years old until I was 25. They were all wonderful, and I trained them myself. I never used a stick or treats to train them. We used to get them from a breeder when they were really young. They were all talkers, very tame, and lived to be about eight years old. If somebody asked me how to train them, I would really have to think about it because I don’t know it was just common sense and easy for me. Out of all the pets I’ve had in my lifetime by the way I’m 70 now, I think I enjoyed my parakeet the most. They were wonderful pets, but didn’t live long enough to my liking.
That's my only downside.
I wished parakeets lived to be 20-30 years. There such amazing pets and have soo much personality.
Top mistake: leaving them in the cage permanently, and never really interacting with them. Oh, love the jacket Jamieleigh 👍🏻

Budgies are always seen as an easy pet that just sits in it's cage all day but they are so much more! Such intelligent creatures and we'd love a flock when we move to a bigger place!

I had a parakeet when I got my first apartment and this bird was quite the ham. She was in a tall cage and the lid was off all day. I kept her clipped and she followed me wherever I went. She had a vocabulary of a three years old! She had so much personality and she was better than a roommate. I had a basket that I kept on the bathroom counter where she perched. I’d wash my face and she would jump in my hands as I cupped the water and take a bath!! ❤️

Socialize them? Theo and Bondi didn't get along so she put her hand between them. And then later that day they were preening each other and she separated them to end on a high note. As for bullying, I mean, if they actively attack each other, that's a bad sign.

one of the many mistakes with budgies is getting them for children who don't know how to treat small animals.
Princess Plague, I agree with you. My cousin was crying the other day about not being able to get a budgie because I have five. But she just isn't responsible plus the fact that she is only 6 years old. And she does not handle my birds well whenever I let her hold them

About the cere, I’ve learned that with younger budgies as they get a little older, the more “bleaching” around the nasal holes, the higher probability it’s a girl. I think & I’m pretty confident blueberry is a girl. A beautiful one at that. 💙
Yeah, if this was a boy it would be a more purplish colour and eventually turn a deeper blue. Blueberry is a girl.
I just recently got into learning proper care for birds after my mom having 2 caged buggies for 5-6 years. They are caged bound, eating an all seed diet, have a small store bought cage with no natural perches & 2 toys in cage at most. they also share a food bowl & I’m sure you can guess how that works out.🤦🏻♀️ I want to give these birds a good life for however long they have left. Just purchased a flight cage for them. I will be buying toys, natural wood perches & there own food bowls. Then I’m gonna try and work on changing there diet & then work on taming them. I have a lot of work to do but I’m determined.😃😅

I now have the Budgie I bought for my grandkids several years ago. They promised to interact with her but not as they should have. Totally a mistake on my part buying Birdie. I have introduced fresh veg and fruit. She’s not a fan. I’ll try mashed fresh fruit or veg with seeds on it. She’s so sweet but so very fearful. I also let her watch videos of Budgies so she won’t feel so lonely. She loves this! I do leave her cage open hoping that she’ll explore. This video was VERY HELPFUL so thank so very much. 🦜

I think the two biggest mistakes are:
1) Giving up when taming/training doesn't go fast enough (budgies tend to be super skittish)
2) Giving an all-seed diet (this seems to be more pervasive among budgies than any other species)

it's the same with any prey animal, I have a rabbit that took 2-3 years from the age of 4 months old to be totally comfortable with me. All about patience and spending a lot of time socializing them
My budgie was actually trusting me quick but a couple days ago he got spooked when I moved to quick In his cage and I went back to square one because he fell off his perch

is your bird kept in the cage all the time? If not I found a trick that works, which is to cut up fruits and veggies and scatter them on a flat surface with some seed sprinkled on top
That was the only way mine would eat it, if I put in their cage dish they wouldn't, I guess it's because they like scavenging and are more curious about new food if they "find it" somewhere
I wish it would be illegal for pet shops to sell parakeets without first training the people how to properly care for them. We made all the mistakes you mentioned when we had parakeets. They never became tame. This makes me sad. We have dogs and cats now, birds would be out of the question, but I've always loved birds and miss having them. Thank you for trying to educate people on caring for birds properly. I love your videos!
I have 2 cockatiels that have been on pellets for years and I had tried unsuccessfully many times to get to eat veggies. Your tips and hints have been so wonderful. This morning as they were walking around on my desk ignoring the healthy veggies I watched them picking up little bits of things like seed shells and I thought to myself “what if I sprinkle their veggies around“ and I sprinkled all of their chopped up veggies around on my desk and they started picking it and eating them! I just want to tell people don’t give up! I liked your comment where you said even If it takes nine months it’s worth it

Yup my budgie WONT eat anything else we’ve tried and tried and tried and she would rather starve than try anything new. We’ve had her for 4 years and she is pretty healthy.....

Blue: Interrupting preening, first of all.
I got my first 2 budgies as a package deal and it definitely has made it harder to interact but we're coming along nicely with hand taming despite them originally being in the situation you described.

I got my budgies together as well. We've had them over a year and I JUST got them to accept pellets. I tried so many things and people still say pellets aren't good for budgies, but I'm trusting people more informed than I am 😂. They'll now land on our hands and munch on some seed, but that's about it. I don't want to give up on these two little budgies. They are so cute and I can see so much potential with them!
I got my budgie pair from a local shop near by. The shopkeepers keep them in such a bad condition and misguide every person to just feed them packaged seed mix. These two cute little guys I got, were already bonded and together. I couldn't separate them. How painful it is to separate them from their friends and their love?! Paired budgies are difficult to tame, but I'm happy with the fact that they are both super happy with each other. They probably think I am just made to feed them different tasty food. There's so much to learn about them. Fortunately they liked sprouts and all green veggies. I mixed the new diet (veggie chops, sprouts, sprouted herb seeds, sprouted oily seeds, occassionally dry fruit powder or chunks) with the existing green veggies they liked, along with their previous seed mix too there. The seed mix lured them to eat. The healthy seed mix which they didn't like..i just grind it in the mixer and sprinkle it over their food. Just like the typical mom, i want them to have all the healthy and nutritious food, by hook or crook 😄 I made sure to mix everything well. When eating their seed mix, they accidentally started tasting other things as well..which turned out well. Decreasing the seed mix in this new diet has to be very slow..to avoid birdie frustration to non access to its addicted favorite seeds and sudden diet change for birds. Owning budgies is not less than having your own child. They need a childlike care and it's all worth it!!!! 🥰
Same! I got 2 budgies and they are buddies but it's so hard to tame them, I cant come near the cage without them running away
@@KyyCantDecide Mine aren't still hand tamed.. They have taken a really long time to adjust and not be scared. I can imagine the life they were having at the local shop and that must be scary for them. Mine bonded with me via singing together and food! They used to run away too when I approached their cage. Just took some time to see that they love spinach and I used that to lure them closer to me. Now, sometimes they observe me for a long time with love.. Some of the regular training techniques actually scared them even more. So, I have just started bonding with food, songs, chats, lullabies.. 🙈 Give your birdies some time! They will come around..! Loads of love to your budgies and cockatiel. They are cute birdies.. 😍❤

@@briv5588 I did not 😂 I brought them home when he was about 4 months old, I truly just got lucky with a less reactive bird. You have to just be super patient, my budgie liked me reading to him but you can try eating infront of him, reading to him, playing their species of bird noise on a phone or something helped me as well. Try offering treats like a long millet spray so it’s hands off, it might take a few days for them to attempt to eat the treat, but once they are reliably eating the treat from your hand is when I would start trying to target them with a target stick.
@@briv5588 you shouldn’t be forcing your bird to do anything, if your having to force them then you have gone too fast for them to understand or too fast for them to be comfortable doing it. It’s a really slow process in some cases as long as you keep trying you will be making progress towards a better relationship :)

How do I get my budgie out of his cage he gets on my hand but when I bring him to the cage door he goes back to the same spot the closes he comes out is when there hungry and I bribe him with millet
@@Spastic110 just gotta be patient with him heck he might already be leaving his cage when your not in the room/paying attention to him that’s what my budgie did and I’d catch him practically running back into his cage

Listening to those little wings flap just brought a tear to my eyes!!! i had 28 little parakeets for awhile and loved the sound of their wings as they flew all around me while doing homework, or waking up to do whatever I had to do by their chirping! Loved them all, no matter what the mess was! Although, i loved being on the phone while the person on the other end struggled to hear me over them! HAHAH! I hope I can do that again one day. Taught them to give kisses. That was my favorite thing with them. Lots of beh-behs, take-ins from people who wouldn't/couldn't understand-they-need-space. Cage clean up was a pain, but soooooo worth it!

I think that most people mess up by not giving their budgie proper enrichment and diet and not spending time bonding with it

Im getting two more today, that a friend decided they didn't want. They were in a room with no interactions.. now my other two will have friends to squawk at when I am not home.
I'm babysitting my neighbours budgie River. River was cage-bound and extremely skittish, seed only. The advice I got was "grab him and bring him to the other side of the apartment so he can fly a bit". Within a week we had warmed River up to going onto the outside of the cage for his food, which was huge and took him a few tries getting the courage. Then we moved Rivers food-bowl to the desk next to his cage, which after a few hours he flew out onto. Huge!
Now we have him willingly flying outside his cage and around the apartment, and he's even eating other foods like carrot and spinach.
He is so chirpy and much happier. His owner couldn't believe it.

Yessss, interacting right away makes so much sense! it doesn't allow time to reinforce their fear, they face it right away and you can move on!
This is exactly where I'm at right now! I got a budgie a couple years ago. I thought that I was doing good by not pushing. We got her a pal. He beats her up and have never gotten along. I felt sad because I couldn't let them out. I found you and learned I was probably doing things wrong. Now I'm watching this video in tears because of how guilty I feel. Now I have these beautiful babies and I can't do anything with them. My wife has been wanting to get rid of them because they're little more than obnoxiously loud furniture. This information is so valuable to me. If there's anything I can do to try and salvage a relationship with these guys, I want to learn. I appreciate so very much these budgie videos and hope that you keep making them. I want to do better, I just don't know exactly where to go from where I am.

Years ago I worked with a place that had parrots, and we saw a couple come through that were rescue birds from abusive homes (people would scream and throw things at the birds because they would squak). If THOSE large parrots who never forget that abuse can be shown that its ok to trust people, your little guys can, too! Just know that they are fearful and you can't expect change over night. I am not Jamie nor am I a bird expert, but I have owned flighted parakeets and cockatiels, and its been a lot about trust building and not forcing them when they say "no".
Hypothetically... If I were to be given your birds tomorrow, I would start on day 1 of Jamies advice. Considering you said one bullies the other, I would split them into 2 separate rooms. Spend solid time alone with each bird every day. Take the top of the cage off and just hang out with them without letting them hide inside their "safe" cage, read a book out loud, talk to them in a comforting tone, get them not fearful of you talking to them and go from there. There's a few videos you can see of Jamies day one interaction with some project birds, I'm sure seeing that will be helpful and figuring out how to start interacting with them. It definitely isn't too late :3
It's not too late. It will take a little more patience but it can be done. If your female is getting beat up by your male I suggest separating them if you haven't already done so. This will also help you with training your birds.
If your birds don't like each other, separate them and socialize them later. She did this with Theo and Bondi in a video. And Comet, Tusa, and Jinx in another. Order a consult if you're really stuck. There's also an Omlet cage review they did, suggest you buy two. There's a seed diet they made to convert them to that, and then all their other techniques for converting them. They have a food chart guide and a household dangers freebie on their download page. And watch tons of videos of theirs. Also heard Marlene McCohen might be a good source, though she does give her parrots plastic toys things. Also Parrot Joy and Planet Pleasures are great toy brands. Have fun! Wish I could have birds at the moment.
It’s never to late! Keep doing research n keep trying ! Persistence is key!
Another great video! I read children’s books to my budgie the first few days she was with me. It worked like a charm! She saw me as her best friend within 1,5 weeks and we are still thick as thieves❤️ i’d recommend doing this to your bird to all new budgie(or other bird) owners. The stories are short so your bird doesn’t loose attention and the happy upbeat tone of the stories make your energy very positive towards the bird. I hope this will help someone out there❤️

i got my budgie from a bird store, and once we brought him home, in a few hours he was letting me pet him and give him scratches. 💖 now he is so sweet! he loves to come on my shoulder and watch videos with me. his name is blueberry too! i love your vids! thanks so much for this video!
My 2 budgies have a whole room and get let out at around 7:30 am and I cover their cage near 8pm and they can go in and out of their cage all day. And I’m glad your budgie has a great life as well
That's exactly my babies schedule. Cissy and Beau even stop to watch SpongeBob, Peppa Pig and the Paw Patrol 😀

0:57 Oh my gosh, my budgies LOVE taking baths in the sink. My two oldest will stay in the longest where as my third oldest will hop out sometimes and want to just sit on my shoulder until he goes back in.
blue jay different birds like different things. Definantly give it a try tho. You never know what your bird likes unless you take risks :)
Awesome to see more budgie content! I do agree that the mistakes brought up in the video are big and extremely common. However, I think there's another one that needs to be talked about, that feeds into the one about interacting with your bird. Which is, getting only one budgie. They are flock animals and need company from their own species to be truly happy. A human companion is great, but no human can beat a budgie friend. Humans can't be there 24/7, we can't preen, feed, sing, interact, etc the way budgies can with each other, so they can never get an outlet for those natural behaviours. In many countries it's illegal to keep a single budgie, simply because they are flock animals and need that budgie interaction. The general statement out there, that it's harder to tame your budgies if you have two, is a myth. This is simply not true at all. Take it from someone who has a flock of four budgies, all tame! It all comes down to how much you're willing to interact with your birds, as stated in the video.
Agreed! It's actually easier to tame two birds as one will always be the "braver" one which coaxes the other into being a little braver too! Although there are some exceptions, some birds are so antisocial with their own kind lol. My bird Mickey always ignored his kind once he bonded with me, which was super suprising to me. He came super bonded with his sibling but immediately started forgetting that when he started bonding with me. Really important video. People tend to underestimate animals in general but small birds and other small animals tend to be interacted with less and treated as less intelligent or lacking the capacity to really bind with people. Thanks for demonstrating that with patience, these little guys can show just how amazing they are.

I didn’t think it was gonna be that expensive, but I love my two budgies and they are the reason I wake up in the morning now.

I love this! My rehomed budgies sooo love fresh food. It took a while to get them off of the whole seed all day diet they were on, but I followed your food plan and it worked amazingly! They easily went over to pellets in two months. We give seeds now from the hand just as a treat or to get them to try something new. They love it.
I'd say that I should send this to my daughter but I'm sure she already watched. I know the follows BirdTricks. The first time I took her to a bird show I thought I broke her. She literally stood at the entrance in awe of all the birds. The look on her face was priceless! Keep up the great informative work and thank you for the education.

Crazy timing on this video, Jamie! Just yesterday, I was discussing adopting a budgie from the petshop I work at. He's a little grey one that gets picked on by the other budgies (sold the last two yesterday, though, so now he's alone...) I'm not sure what happened to him, but he was missing his tail feathers and primary flight feathers. The tail has grown back, but his wings are still messed up... I'm thinking clipping gone wrong...
So there's a bit of a dilemma. Even if someone does show interest in him, I'm worried they're just interested because of his weird way of walking (because of his tail) and his stumpy wings (which I'll admit, do make him look cute, however sad that is). The other option is handing him back to the supplier, which will most likely be the end of the line for him...
So yeah... I may have kind of sorta already given him a name.... Just have to discuss with my boss to keep him in the shop until I get my own place (hopefully soon) since my parents won't have him in the living room and my bedroom gets too cold in the winter... Fingers crossed!
Oh dear that’s a dilemma! If your bedroom is too cold you can get a bird safe heater for your room/cage, but a MUST if it’s in your room is an air purifier, because you can get really sick otherwise. The birds tail was probably lost out of stress or as self defense when another budgie attacked it. I wish you the best of luck, but highly suggest you do some intense researching first!
@@kween9917 Nah, my bedroom is just not an option. Even if I were to get a heater and air purifier, the bird and I would probably bother one another too much. Plus, there's practically no room for a decent sized cage + free roam.
His cage-mates in our shop didn't really attack him, thankfully (if that were the case, we would have of course switched cages). We thought they were fine being housed together, the others just didn't seem to interact with him a lot. But I noticed a few days ago that at least one of them was cornering him and pushing him against a wall. Looked really mean... But what happened to him before we got him, I'll probably never know.
And in regards to research, I luckily already know quite a bit about birds. I'm a vet tech (just not currently working as one) and I already own an Amazon parrot. I also own most of the training courses and the cookbooks made by Jamie and Dave. This would be a perfect excuse to buy their budgie training course as well! ;)
Sherloki you’re probably right if you think that it’d be too loud in your room, I wish you the best of luck finding a place to move into, and maybe for the time being asking your boss if the budgie can be caged separately/mark the bird as not for sale if you truly intend to buy it
@@kween9917 Yeah, I'm gonna see if it would be alright to put him in one the empty cages, or to already purchase him and a cage and just house him near the other birds with an info card. Added bonus: that way he would already be mine and I can change his diet and just set up the cage the way it should be. I'll finally be able to show customers how birds should be housed. Or at least the minimum...

I’d like to see a video on how to overcome the mistakes us newbies make in our training routine when our little buddies become too fearful to interact.
I feel lucky that I found similar great info like this before I decided to get my two budgies - I got them both at the same time from a pet store, and very quickly started trying to move them away from a seed diet. The number 1 thing I was told is "BE PATIENT", and it's really true! My two now prefer their fresh food (and really like their evening pellets too), and I'm fortunate enough to have a large main room in my apartment where they have a lot of SAFE space to fly around and come to interact with me on THEIR terms - which is actually quite often! They're learning that sometimes I won't be able to play with them (I work from home at the moment but sometimes have 2-hour-long video meetings), and it's just a case of us continuing to learn about each other and our individual personalities.
I've never had a bird and just came to watch. This is gorgeous!💟👍

Lovely video as always! I would like to make an exception with the seed based diet part. My dear family member Jaam (Guava in our language because he's a "normal" green budgie), passed away last month. His life was a seed based diet as we tried to convert him earlier but no success. He passed away at nearly 15 years of age. Fair enough while I was initially skeptical, the seeds we gave him had all the nutrient supplements in it so that worked out there. Combine that with us making sure he got exercise and whatnot. That being said, I still agree 100% about the diet. Yeah they are parrots sure, but they are still like us. A healthy balanced diet of fresh and seeds.
I really miss him, he taught me to enjoy life, be happy, and do your best to take care of yourself when you are unwell.

Gotta love budgies!!! They are a great pet. When I lived in the outback, northern South Australia, I quite often saw them in their natural habitat around water holes but they were always in their thousands! And of course their only natural colour was green. Quite a wonderful sight to see!!!
I feel awful. I got a parakeet in the mid to late 00s because I wanted one when I was a few years older than Capri. I thought that bird was badly behaved. We made almost all the classic mistakes of an impulse purchase: cage far too small, all-seed diet, didn't tame the bird down enough, etc.
I think the one most major, common mistake we _didn't_ make was keeping the bird fully flighted and just generally letting it fly around a lot of the day. It bonded with my dad pretty closely, so he was the one to do the major handling stuff. But we also had cats. So that was why we didn't clip.
The blame lies mostly on my parents for letting me get it in the first place. But proper care like the standards we have now just didn't really exist back then either. I'm not saying I'm blameless for the unintentional neglect. It's just hard when this sort of information wasn't really available at all.
I agree. Even my own information and knowledge has evolved so much in the past 16 years - I wasn’t as aware as we are now and we all start somewhere. None of us are born knowing, we have to learn and then continue to learn to evolve with the right information 💙
As long as it’s done in good faith and you are open to new information and improving, it’s a step in the right direction. Neglect out of laziness or carelessness or the like is inexcusable imo.

Seeing people “bathe” their birds when they’re tiny birds directs under they water stream is one of the things I see so often and it breaks my heart to see them so stressed and it praised by everyone who sees it. Just thought I’d say it gets on my nerves.
i mean... that's just how some birds prefer to bathe. some prefer wet greens to roll in... some like a trickle of water... some would rather just hop right in the shower with you (though that's usually for larger birds). and it isn't like they're just stuck in a sink and abandoned. there's a person right nearby to help them out if they want to leave... or they could just fly off if they didn't like it.
Many small birds are attracted to the sound of running water, e.g. bird baths. When I clean my deck, my hummingbirds will often come the second the water starts dripping on the patio below. In the video, you can see Blue stops bathing when Capri turns off the water but he/she gets right back into it when the water is turned back on.
Our cockatiel is a weirdo and wont bath in a bowl but loves trying to bath in streams of water, we even have a video of him trying to bath in the stream of water as we do water changes on the fish tanks 🤣 (dont worry we dont let him as that water is dirty)
@@tzxazrael Sometimes they get stuck under the water because it's so heavy on them, or they get paralysed by fear and can't move. It's super dangerous because the water can get into their lungs and drown them. Also, even though they have a human nearby to help them- if the human doesn't understand that it's so dangerous and that it's not enjoying it, it's actually frozen in fear, then they don't help them because they think they're perfectly fine!
I understand your concern. I tried many ways to introduce bathing to my budgie and staying under the water stream in the sink was his favourite. I made sure it was the right temperature and not too heavy. He absolutely loved it, no stress. He would run around, get wet and super fluffy. He would come flying in the bathroom when I told him it was time for a bath. :-)
must say I love you vids I have had my budgie for 2 weeks and happy to say using the tips in your videos I now have a budgie that will stand on my finger and eat and don't go mad when my hand is in it cage. The training is going good soon will start calling training with my budgie buddy JoJo.

How do you get them to go to a safe place at night? How would you get them to go back to their cages while you are using the oven or something?
We would love to get a budgie soon for our family but would like to do things the right way.

When I was getting a store bought budgie to eat veggies, I'm sure me chewing on RAW broccoli and showing the bird it was food would have been a hoot of a video. (I formed a relationship with the bird and after a week, showed it and it started eating it. The carrot and bell pepper was easy - but that raw broccoli? YUK! lol)

Super helpful video!! We're planning to get our 9 yr old daughter a budgie in a few weeks after we move and she's now super excited to start training her little bird! I had a budgie when I was a kid and he was unfortunately stuck in his nice safe cage all of the time and now I know why. I honestly would've done exactly what you said and given a new bird a few days in the cage to settle in, but what you're saying makes total sense. Also so glad you mentioned the diet because I guess ours was an anomaly...he lived for 14 years on a seed only diet.

two biggest mistakes
1) never taking them out of their cage. kind of like having it for decor
2) wrong diet
I think we need a vet to show us how to hold a bird ....fan the wing gently...and trim on an angle. A vet showed me years ago on my budgie and it was quite simple actually. Easier than cutting a cats nails maybe or dog. 🦜

Ok before I watch. I want to note how I have seen budgies in small travel size carriers stuffed with like five birds. No space. Basically left in a cage with little room to be viewed like beta fish. Hardly interacted with. Also their size may make people think they aren't much but they are such great companions. And as you've mentioned they are cheap so an impulse buy.

Thank you, I tried everything to get mine to eat veggies and fruits and so far they only are receptive to apple and I think that's a texture preference; they like crunchy so I will try green beans and the lettuce stalks and try carrots again

1 very common mistake is giving them an all-seed diet while giving them a tiny cage and not letting them exercise. (It causes fatty liver disease and obesity)

I had my Indian Ringneck on my shoulder while I was loading up the video. As soon as the video loaded and Blueberry popped up, he bolted and flew all the way back to his cage! Blueberry spooked my Ringneck
No matter what I open TH-cam for, I end up watching bird videos from this channel and the other two. I'm not the kind of person, who usually comments on social media public platforms, still here I'am due to the birdie love you guys have. The budgie diet plan from your channel really helped me get a jumpstart on the conversion from seed mix to healthy diet. I have been learning a lot from this channel about birds. I work at a really great independent pet store. I have never had birds (and don't give out advice on them), but we sell birds at our store. I love your channel as it lets me share the right advice with the customers. I will defiantly be sharing the advice from this video. I have an educational bird channel too with tips you might like-
i mean, check out any and all birdtricks videos, or anyone else's bird training videos. Elle has a fun channel with lots of smaller birds (Elle and the birds; th-cam.com/channels/rozpXn44uk0V9uQWFhxJuA.html ). it's sometimes just making jokes, but there's also lots of actual training tips there. it might take some adapting for size (and temperament,etc) but you don't really need tricks specific to budgies... they're still birds, and most training tips will apply roughly equally to any bird. eg; you probably don't want to give an unshelled walnut to anything smaller than a Grey... but the idea of treats in general still applies.
Question... when the budgie is out an about, how often are they pooping everywhere and how do you deal with it
I concur with interacting from day 1. I did this with my budgie, he was great from that moment on. Was quite happy to come out and sit on my shoulder and nibble my cheek (don't know whether that was a good thing, but we're talking over 30 years ago!) whenever he came out.

That’s alright because once it sheds a few times, it should grow back. You can then teach it to fly, depending on the age (cause a lot of older budgie’s can’t fly no matter how hard u try)

I made a huge mistake clipping my 1st birds wings. I got a 2nd one though amd didn't clip them. I cant wait for my 1st bird's wings to grow back so she can fly higher! ☺😊

I have my four, very tame, happy and healthy budgies, and it makes my heart flutter to see someone with a platform speak for the little guys! They tend to be what you make them and people often underestimate their intelligence and how demanding they actually are. Small birds, but big personalities.
I noticed that when we see Blueberry in videos, the other birds aren’t generally around. Do you keep him/her away from the larger parrots for safety reasons or something else? Or do you let them interact and we just dont usually see it happen?
My guesses are.
Buying them as a gift.
Not training and taming them and keeping them in their cage all day.
And honestly, we need to Make it more common to research the pet you are getting
Your videos have helped me so much with my two new babies I got a few weeks ago. I am working so much with them. I just bought your course and some toys for them too from your website. The store sold me on this hanging cage, but I really think it is way too small, so we will build a big cage for them. I also bought them a playground, and today was their first day in it. I love how curious parakeets are! I am going to work on target training as their wings grow out. They still are scared of me sometimes but seem to be food motivated. I work with them every day and will earn their trust soon enough! Thanks for all these information
My first budgie was sunny, this was 55 years ago, had several budgies since then. Love budgies, my last budgie was buddy, cleaned my teeth, flied on my head, had him for 4 years.
Thinking that they don't have potential and just giving up !!!
