Like I have said before on other videos of yours, your cinematography and narrative is spot on. Legs above other people doing the same thing. Keep up the great work. I have now watched every single video you've ever produced, so looking forward to the next one. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not here, all we have is now.
He is really good at editing. Ex. The birds and squirrels. Just enough time to show wildlife but not too much to distract fro. the true purpose of the video. Which is jon and erin are preparing fe the apocalypse. The apocalypse of awfully bad top 40😊
Fun idea (probably for a little different conditions): Heat a large stone in the fire, wrap in bark (leaves, moss, etc.), wrap in (cooking) foil. What you get is a heat thermos. The foil should keep the heat inside. Put three or four in the tent and you will not need the stove. When it gets colder make a hole in one of the foil cover. It will start releasing the heat. In a couple of hours do the same for another one. It is a theory after a space blanked saved me from a cold night. To scale up: heat more stones. put them into a ditch. cover with bark, cover with two large sheets of foil with initially misaligned holes. Put the tent on top of it. Temperature regulation is done by pulling the foil sheets from side to side, so the holes start/stop aligning. Details to be figured out.
Thanks for a great viewing. I’ve been in Australia for 54 years, and I still crave the winters of Europe. It gives me so much joy in my heart to be a little part of it. 😢

His true purpose of this channel is to promote awesome canadian rock bands. Such as rush. Triumph. Loverboy. Honeymoon suite. But absolutely no bieber fever or nickelback
HAAHAH "I haven't felt heat like this since I was in Mississippi" best ending ever. Awesome trip bro, nice to be forced to stay put once in a while. You captured it beautifully.
I can really relate to everything you said at the end of your video. Cutting alcohol out of my life has helped immensely with winter depression and energy levels, but I don’t know what I would do without regular backcountry outings. Nature is the medicine! Last summer I started having major shoulder pain, so I focused on bike packing and sadly did very little padding. Turns out I will need a shoulder replacement. I just turned 50 last April. “Best before 2020, weren’t we all”. Hahaha! Here’s wishing you healing for your knee and many more adventures ahead!
Winter QUIET is so special! And Bach is perfect for winter scenes indeed Jon. Your "lack of purpose" has no effect on how much I, for one, love watching your videos. Your narrative ( Southern or Canadian) always hit the right chords, footage spectacular, knowledgeable, AND the knee issue is real. No need to push or risk your body unnecessarily. I just dislocated my patella in bed for gosh sakes! How ridiculous is that 😳 You could probably hear the silent scream on Superior lol!! Good to "see" you out there in 2023 and be well and safe! Hi to Erin :-) 💜 B
I love Bach....and who knew the warmth of the cello would be the perfect sound for fresh snow...and ice! Loving this already! ETA - beautiful video, Jon. Just loved it....Winter camping is my favorite ❤️
Another great video. I had a very similar overnight in my hot tent this past weekend. Always great to get out and dive right into the winter season. All the best to you and wife to be in 2023.
Here savoring the cold, clear, 50 f day 3 hrs. up from the Gulf of Mexico. Thanks for sharing your humor bits as well as the usual testimony of creation .. ATB to y'all.
Yay finally winter season again. Can't wait for more of your relaxing solo trips. Hope your knee is getting better. In the meantime I binged your summer wabakimi videos and I honestly got no clue how you're able to relax and enjoy your trip with all those mosquitos around.
Once again, you delight us with the closeups of the ice as it forms the most beautiful sculptures. You remind me to stop and look! Experience nature! Listen for the silence. I love your videos for all that wonder. Thanks Jon. Can’t wait for the frosted over videos❤
Outstanding video! Especially loved the first-person shots of you walking through the forest and the sped-up outro PoV with Bach playing in the background. Thank you for your efforts!
Hi Jon. I agree - your winters are stunning. Here in Niagara however, the winter is a miserable muddy depressing time of year. I envy where you live and everything at your doorstep. Looking forward to seeing some ice fishing soon I hope 😊
Great vid Jon. I agree, videos with purpose are much more fulfilling to film and edit but you did a great job with the pace and fun on this one. Love the slow mo sequences, wish I had 4k / 60 frames + capabilities on my Sony! Hope the knee heals up quick. 👍
Just what I needed to see in this bizarre mild winter here in Montreal--a real winter albeit mild there too with running water no less en route. And for a trip with *no mission* why not make the meal a mission and crack off a cassoulet or something, or "Jon's 5-course classic bush dining - Parts 1 through 5." I ride an ebike now for my knees so I understand that issue; mind you, I can easily vision you stumping off into the bush pulling sleds with a full cast on one leg so great is your draw to the wilderness. Winter. Forest. Snow. Silence. Listening anyway.
I don't know why your videos first popped up into my recommended page considering I live in Melbourne Australia and have pretty much been a city person all my life, but I'm so glad I did. I love all your videos but your winter camping videos just hit differently. They're the bread and butter of this channel. I guess thats because I've never experienced a winter like that before in my life. So I'd just like to say I love your content. Its soothing, and makes me want to venture more into the outdoors and connect with nature more and it makes me feel as if I'm experiencing it too. Keep up the great work, look after that knee and I look forward to more winter camping videos!
Been mild this winter so those creeks might not freeze over. Makes slogging through the woods a little more arduous when you're surrounded by wet snow. Let's hope we get some lower temps soon.
Hordes frost so elegantly adorn the trail of tall pines as the crunch of past fallen snow under one's boots sings its winter melody with each creaking crunch that brings a calmness to one's heart mind and soul with an ambiance of peace that restores one's deep inner self as winter is a time of morning repairing resting with dreams of springs new birth. May your winter treks bring that to you Jon
Loved the music choice here, Jon-- particularly the last minute or so! What a lovely sonic slurry! Also, totally jealous of what your eyes beheld--as usual!
Regardless of how you had hoped the trip would turn out.... you improvised, adapted and overcame the challenges and made a fine video. The drone footage was spectacular and that hot tent is bad a$$. Have a great 2023 Jon!! I am heading to Shenandoah NP in a week for a four day winter backpacking trip. I always enjoy your videos. All the best to you and Erin!
The sunlight shining down on to fresh thin snow on birch trees is arguably one of the most stunning sights I've ever witnessed. This video reminded me of that so thank you. I've only ever been to parts of Alberta and the NWT, and all around BC. Getting to experience some of Ontario through your videos has been a gift.
Firebox Stove have a couple of great multi purpose stoves. No puzzle pieces to form the stove. They work with sticks, briquettes or alcohol. The best part, they have titanium stoves.
Not much of a winter down here in the Ottawa Valley. Finally got some snow yesterday. Much preferred living and hiking the bush in northern Ontario so far. Good video again.
Another wonderful video. Nothing beats a walk through a forest on a bright sunny day after a fresh dump of snow. Captured beautifully as always Jon! Happy New Year!!!
Thanks for this one Jon! I watched with envy. I lived in Ely, Minnesota, just outside of the Boundary Waters for two years. I painted landscapes and wildlife, inspired by that beautiful place. I had to go home to family because of illness. I so miss the Minnesota snowfall. This one took me right back there.
Hope your knee is feeling better. I feel kind of stupid but I never knew that about birch trees. I always wondered why they were always rotten but this explanation makes perfect sense. Always glad to learn new information. Great enjoyable video as always. 🛶
“The best laid plans…” It still looked like it was better than sitting around the house lol Such beautiful country you get to enjoy. *I received those Showa gloves I ordered off your link. They’re great! I think I’m going to order a second pair to keep in the ‘winter emergency kit’ in my truck.
Great to see another adventure. I have a bum knee so seeing you deal with your knee on this trip made me think that it is time to get out and see how far I get. Stop short if needed and just to enjoy the winter with no set agenda. I have hated winter with my bad knee. Thank you for sharing another fine adventure! Looks like you are reading a fine book and enjoying life.
Cant wait to see you go ice fishing , sit on a bucket all day and catch nothing as usual 😋 So what's your feeling so far on your new tent ? Thanks for the video Jon , alway's a pleasure to share your adventure
Haha less and less desire to ice fish every year...unless conditions are perfect. Loving the tent so far, maybe wish I had got the vinyl door instead of window. Thanks buddy :)
Even though you didn't achieve your purpose you still managed to capture the beauty and enjoyment of winter and still tell a story! Hope your knee gets better and the weather finally changes and you get to do some fishing. Looks like we will be waiting a while to fish down here in Muskoka so we'll have to live vicariously through you for a while!
When using a bow saw like that, the safest way is to put your hand inside and on the other side of the log (left hand on your right side)so if the blade jumps it can't possibly cut you.
Fantastic video as always. Always so peaceful... that was purposeful enough for me. That was a really nice walk about after the snow. Right after Christmas, we had like 3 - 4 days of heavy hoar frost in Manitoba. I kept thinking it would've been perfect to be out in the bush. Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year. 😊
@Lost Lakes No need to thank me. Thank you... keep doing what you do. We're only a province apart but you're doing what I could only dream about. Keep showing off Canada's beauty. Future challenge... lol. Get me into a canoe! Hahaha.
Hi I've been watching your great videos for some time...but recently I went right back to the beginning and watched them chronically. I saw one when you found some metal shoe inserts. My husband tells me they date back to the Vietnam war....the enemy would booby trap the ground with sharpened bamboo sticks covered with poop...the soldiers would step on them and get bad infections which sometimes be fatal. So they wore metal inserts to help protect them. So someone probably had some old army surplus boots. I'm from Australia and am loving your videos.
You mentioned that sometimes your knee locks up. I have IT band syndrome and so does mine. There are IT band straps that go just above the knee taking the pressure off the knee. Not sure that’s your issue but if it is it’ll help. Great video too btw, as always. Blessings brother.
Love the videos, and really liked the start to finish format of this one. Here's something I'm not sure if you've been asked, but have you ever considered taking people who are interested in winter camping out for like a four day course? winter camping 101 type of thing. Do you know any organizations that provide that kind of service?
Don't beat yourself up kid you don't realise how much purpose you're videos give to people peace and tranquility in a world of shit God bless you stay safe thanks
So awesome!! I love your videos! You go to the coolest places. Several of which I have checked out because you inspired me to. You take the time to shoot beautiful footage! It’s good to see someone else obsessed about fishing! It’s not just me! I was wondering where you got your tent? I used one of those Wilderness Tents for years. The kind with the metal frame that you put in after you get the tent. It was great but is too heavy for solo trips. I usually go with a snowmobile but I would love to start doing more walking trips like you have been doing all along. Definitely a different vibe when there is no machine involved. Of all the possible winter tents I’ve seen I think yours is my favorite. Just wondering where you got it. Keep those videos coming!! You do us Canadians proud!! Cheers dude!
Very odd winter so far. Outside of a couple of snow events, it's been mild here in NE Japan. We average around 326.898 cm (almost 11ft) every winter. Temps from Dec-March are 0-4 C (32-40 F) during the day. Right now, the unshaded and non-piled accumulations have melted and we're looking at 7-10 C (45-50 F) the next 4 days. Then a massive temp drop, followed by average temps. The snow in the mountains is good for recreation, but chest deep powder hasn't shown up yet. Very odd to not see significant fall until the New Year turned. Looks about the same in Canada.
hey lost lakes i love youre vifeos. i used to be able to go out on the weekends and camp in the middle of knowhere. i used to love the summer when i had a couple weeks off. i was like see ya"ll in a couple weeks. im from central michigan, gladwin county. im just a couple hours of every great lake surounding michigan. i love it.the problem is my hips blew out on me and i cant really get around to well anymore. 35 years of standing on cement floors for 12 hrs a day took its toll on me. i love to watch you joe robinet, jim and ted baird, and the cabin guy sean. if you only knew the hours ive spent wathing you all. it was hard at first knowing id never be able to do it again. i mostly did backpacking. i was never good in a canoe he he he! i was never really coordinated ha ha ha. hey can i ask you a favor? if you get this please just say a hello to me? you and all the other guys are more famous to me than any hollywood star. id really appreciate it. your friend jeff!
Hey Jeff, thanks man! I really feel your pain...it hurts to be limited by the body. Of course there are many other things to enjoy in life but I feel for ya 💚
Oh jon! I listen to Bach a lot in the morning, too. I often listen to your country, Glen Gould. I was so calm with the video music you uploaded. Happy New Year and a safe trip :)
Yo man. I hope your knee is gonna be okay!? I vaguely remember a previous video where you had the same issue. I’m sure the cold does you zero help. Thank you for the constant uplifting content Jon! Sorry it’s been a rough year (tho I guess it’s now a new year) with all of the struggles you’ve had on your planned trips. We all love the videos anyway. Makes for a perfect winter night curled up with my wife watching you camp. Cheers dude.
I’m surprised Lost Lakes doesn’t have a million subscribers. His videos are artistic and just beautiful.

with those blue gloves on I was in anticipation that you'd be gutting a fish at any moment
You just made me realize those gloves could allow for filleting in cold conditions...doing it with bare hands in the cold sux
@@LostLakes they're fisherman's gloves correct. I have a pair too but I bought mine to small 😢
Such a beautiful time to camp out. Looks like something out of a fairy tale.
Fun idea (probably for a little different conditions): Heat a large stone in the fire, wrap in bark (leaves, moss, etc.), wrap in (cooking) foil. What you get is a heat thermos. You had a purpose in this video as well. You bring all of us the tranquil beauty that is northern Ontario winter.

@Lost Lakes No need to thank me. Thank you... keep doing what you do. We're only a province apart but you're doing what I could only dream about. Keep showing off Canada's beauty.
Future challenge... lol. Get me into a canoe! Hahaha.
Great trip, the scenery was just amazing!
Appreciate that man!
Love the videos, and really liked the start to finish format of this one. Here's something I'm not sure if you've been asked, but have you ever considered taking people who are interested in winter camping out for like a four day course? winter camping 101 type of thing. Do you know any organizations that provide that kind of service?
Thanks Jason! Thought about it but with youtube I don't have the time right now. I think Martin Pine does that in central Ontario via Yours Outdoors
Beautiful winter scenes combined with the cello music was genius, I tip my hat to you young elf.
Look after that knee.
Thanks as always brother! Booked with the doc next week :)
I love the Bach in the background GREAT Choice!
Thank you!
Sorry bout your knee pal....that sucks...been there. Thanks for taking us with you!!!
Thanks Scotty!
Don't beat yourself up kid you don't realise how much purpose you're videos give to people peace and tranquility in a world of shit God bless you stay safe thanks
The fancy blue Alone gloves. Nice touch.
Wonderful!!
a good place to meditate, in the quiet
Awesome vid man learning so much more skills & what the world has to offer from your vids. Have fun 👍 😊
Thanks Jozef!
My favorite part about winter is your videos!!!!
💚💚💚
Yeah sounds like you're describing our winter as well...been pretty gentle so far
@@LostLakes Bring on the winter!
hey lost lakes i love youre vifeos. i used to be able to go out on the weekends and camp in the middle of knowhere. i used to love the summer when i had a couple weeks off. i was like see ya"ll in a couple weeks. im from central michigan, gladwin county. im just a couple hours of every great lake surounding michigan. i love it.the problem is my hips blew out on me and i cant really get around to well anymore.

Much appreciated June :) Happy new year!
enjoyed the video, liked the slow motion portions. Beautiful in the winter time. Thank you.
Thanks a bunch Sean! Still working on it but was able to get a week-long trip in to start the new year :)
