-20⁰ Winter Bushcraft - Tarp Camp with Wool Blankets & Long Fire
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 18 ม.ค. 2024
- Winter is finally here and it's brought some frigid cold temperatures. In this episode I venture out to the frozen wilderness with a simple kit including a tarp shelter and two wool blankets. Despite the cold I'm able to get a comfortable camp set up, enjoy a few delicious meals cooked over the campfire, and stay warm thanks to a hot-burning long fire. Thank you to everyone who watches! God bless.
Extra Info:
Temperatures during this trip - During the day it was -15⁰C (5⁰F) and during the night it got down to -28⁰C (-18⁰F)
What about wildlife? - Bears are sleeping the winter away in their dens. Wolves and mountain lions in this area are very timid towards people. Encountering dangerous wildlife is uncommon but I do carry a form of protection just in case.
Bannock/Pan Bread recipe - 1 cup flour, 1/2 tablespoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt. Mix dry ingredients thoroughly. Add ~1/2 cup of water to form a thick dough. Pan fry over low heat for 10-15 minutes.
Beaver Tail/Cinnamon Sugar Fry Bread recipe - 1/2 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 3 teaspoons white sugar, 2 teaspoons butter, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix ingredients thoroughly until butter is broken down to form a dry crumbly mix. Add enough water to form a thick dough. Thin dough to ~1/4 inch. Fry over medium heat until both sides are golden brown. Top with cinnamon sugar or topping of choice. - บันเทิง
There is something about these videos. So calming, so soothing.
Thanks for watching!
Indeed.
Fuckin right
Its the sound of nature and his voice
It's because Biden is president and the world is full of chaos. You need to tie back to a calm, non-political environment to ground and center yourself.
Your brain is literally seeking it out artificially from YT because it's the easiest recourse for you to get something similar.
“Coldest is got was -28 degrees, so not TOO TOO bad.”
Mad respect. 🔥🔥
Thanks for tuning in!!
I see a hint there he may be canadian
Nah, this guy is a loser hot weather camper pretending to sleep in the cold.
It's not Vancouver, rarely below -18°C that's the coldest I've ever experienced, but my sis lives in Winter-peg so she knows c-c-cold
And the man only has a thin whool blanket 😂😂😂
Good to see you’re back!
You can tell how cold it is by the crush of the snow under your feet. There is something about this kind of weather that makes me feel alive. So invigorating... Even now at my age.
I'll take a frosty winter day over the summer heat any day! Thanks for watching!
Such competency, coupled with contentment. That’s what’s so calming about these videos, this guy isn’t fighting nature and winning, he’s just enjoying it in such a calm skillful way. How much fun it’d be to cultivate skills like this.
What a great video. I hot tent camped with my teenage son last weekend in 2 degree F weather, and that was with a stove, tent and big fluffy sleeping bags. We decided that was our limit. You, sir, are on another level 😊
Glad to hear you got out to enjoy the outdoors! Sounds like a great time. Thanks for watching!!
Brother Kusk👍👍 Your approach to and easiness of enjoying the wild is much appreciated, few wilderness content creators show their true ability to live simply for the experience as you do. You have proven time and again "the more you know the less you need" scenario. There's too many creators out there that carry every new gadget, gizmo and gear, too complicated, which makes watching you that much more pleasurable. Breakfast sweet bread looked amazing, trying it out today unfortunately no campfire but thanks for the recipe. Good fire, good food, good time, thanks for the work. Stay safe and vigilant, see ya soon.
Thank you for your kind words! I hope the fry bread turns out good for you. Hope to see you in the next one! Happy trails.
Agreed on the many content creators that carry every new gadgets, electrical source, expensive shit I cannot afford ,etc...more like luxury camping than TRUE camping.
Now this is true outdoor camping using the available resources that Mother Nature provides 👍👏🌲🏕!! I enjoy these videos and plus learning.
A simple shelter , a nice fire , somehow it helps ease some of the stress . Thanks 👍
Thanks for watching!
Great trip, Kusk. Once you got that first fire going, it's game-on! I enjoy your practical, non-commercialized approach, and appreciate your resourcefulness. Thanks for sharing another great video!
Thanks for tuning in! I appreciate the continued support. Happy trails my friend!
as a First Nation, its really cool to see you share our bannock bread!!! I love your videos man!
Bannock is one of my go-to camp foods. Certainly one of my favourites! Thank you so much for watching!
I'm 35 years old and I first tried Bannock near moosanee when I was 10 years old. Cooked in a teepee. It was absolutely delicious and one of the coolest experiences I've ever had.
Real clever with the ridge pole tied off like that 👍🏻
Your videos are an absolute joy to watch. The sights, the sounds, even the smells which can easily be imagined. I smile beaming ear to ear as you revel in your tasks, and enjoy the simple things in life. I appreciate you taking us along for the most wonderful and valued experience. Cheers!
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed. Happy trails my friend!
OOOOHHHH.....nice....another peaceful evening film by the cup of tea🤠
Honestly, you’re living every man’s dream. And getting paid for it. In a way I envy you, in another I’m so so happy for you. Thank YOU for sharing your adventures
I certainly live a very blessed life. I'm very grateful for all I have. Thank you for watching!
How is he getting paid?
@@moorshound3243 TH-cam homie
@@moorshound3243 half a million subs, average of 20k views each “bushcraft” vid. I’m no expert or pretend to know how much or if that’s livable income, but I mean it’s income for the house payment he’s never at anyway🤣 idk I’d hope he’s got it all worked out
Oh I'm sure he has ... he's been doing TH-cam for several years nows .. he's no newbie at this
You are definitely the master of Bushcraft content creator videos! As some of the others have said, you exemplify, woods wisdom over carrying an abundance of gadgets and trinkets. Thank you for portraying a REAL wilderness woodsman and teaching us some amazing nuances to improve our skills. I love your channel, and your walking the wilderness talk. AWESOME!
Thank you for watching and for the kind words!!! Happy trails my friend!
These videos rock. So soothing. The winter camping is my favorite, something about the snow and crackling fire
I love the tarp setup. It's really nice not having a pole or line in the way at the front.
I completely agree! It really frees up a lot of space. Thanks for watching!
As always, thank you for sharing your videos, the tarp pole set up is a new one for me!
Be well, stay safe, and god bless.
Thank you for watching! God bless!
I love the videos, especially the winter ones. However, I cannot work out which of us is the weird one! You for camping out in -20 or me for watching you camping out in -20!
Peace & quiet. Priceless. God bless always.
God bless!
Yayyy ! A 32 min video ... Got my beverage and a snack... all ready now just got to press play. 🙋♀️
Totally crazy and awesome to sleep in this ice cold forest and only the fire, tarp and a wool blanket, and with the nerves to cook in this environment like you were in your kitchen at home. But maybe this is your home… 🥶🥶🥶🥶
finally someone who (winter cold) starts with a fire BEFORE their shelter... It is okay to then let it become coals because that will easily reignite when it is time to eat, etc, but when you are building your shelter it is important to be able to warm up your hands if they get cold....... wow, my jaw dropped when I saw you place your ridge pole facing rear! That is brilliant!!
This surely helps take away the winter blues!
Always a pleasure tagging along Riley and those wilderness cooked beaver tails served on freshly picked spruce branches...darn 👌😋
Great upload!
It sure was a great trip. I'm looking forward to the next one! Thank you for watching. Happy trails!
Man you know it’s gone be a good day when Kusk drops a video!
I hope you enjoy! Thanks for tuning in.
That is how I like it. From the beginning to the end. Despite of that campfire, I would put something under the blanket, to isolate from ground. Nice to see another adventure and i can't wait for another.
I live in Alberta and I think you have inspired me to finally give this type of camping a shot. 👍🏼🤣
Looks like you were very comfortable. Your preparation for what you knew would be there, wind, cold, access to firework and cooking temperatures made it enjoyable for us as well. Thank you. God Bless.
When things go smoothly that's usually a testament to your skill level. Enjoyed this one very much. Stay safe.
Thank you for watching!
A pleasure as always!
Thank you for another great video. I learn something every video you post
Thank you for tuning in!!
So good to see you back, Kusk! Another great camp, and it looks like a new axe... very nice with your logo on it. My nine year old daughter and I really enjoy watching your videos together. She especially likes the cooking... I like the peace and solitude. Thanks for sharing! Peace to you from Alaska. ~Tim & Mary
Ryley, you are the real deal. I am proud of you. God Bless.
Thank you! I appreciate the support. God bless you too my friend.
I can't believe I finally saw a video where somebody just burns the trees in half instead of wasting all the calories bucking them up. I've been doing that for 40 years. Great video, great channel. And, may God bless you as well.
Burning is certainly easier than cutting! Thank you for watching! God bless.
i can smell the frybread it’s always best cooked outside 😊
Thank you for my latest therapy session.
Thank you for watching!!
The snow and ice is slowly melting here in northern England after a week or so of prolonged colder weather, and this upload is particularly welcome on a quiet Friday night 🥳
when kusk bushcraft shows up on my watch list, I make a cup and settle in...as always, excellent photography, good content with good flow, 1/2 hour is perfect for me....and can always count on a few good tips thru out...fyi, you have one of those voices that lends itself to holding an audience interest , many ways to use that to your advantage ....ty
Thank you so much for the support and for your kind words!! Happy trails my friend!
Happy trails. Thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Ooh, I like that; when starting your fire be confident that it will light. Mind over matter indeed
Another great overnight adventure Ryley! Stay warm and safe! Looking forward to the next video!
Thanks for tuning in!! See you in the next one!
Very nicely done - those beaver tails look awesome!
Thank you once again for transporting me to a place of peace and serenity. Great video as usual.
Excited to see the new video! Relaxing time
Thanks for watching!!
Young man you need to make more videos. I love watching your old school way of camping I am 65 years young and have been doing bushcraft survival for 45 years old school style I've been doing bushcraft long before people knew what bushcraft was I watch two channels on TH-cam and yours is one keep the videos coming my friend.
🌲🔥
What’s the other need some recommendations
Good to see more of your awesome videos!
My friend, we are waiting for the continuation of such long camping videos, greetings from Turkey.
Resonated with me , I like the cut of your jib sir , a very straightforth bushcraft camp thanks for sharing.
Fantastic. When I was you age, which was a long time ago, I camped out on a mountain pass in Wyoming when it was really, really cold. Did not have a tent or any shelter and no fire. I was very exposed to the elements. I recall waking up shivering during the middle of the night and wondering if I was going to survive. In the very early morning I got up and tried to get feeling back into my legs which were numb from above the knees down to my feet. Needless to say I was physically exhausted. Your video reminded me of that time. It would have been nice to have your skillset. Really enjoyed this video!!
Wow that sounds like a scary experience. Glad you made it through! Thanks for sharing and for watching. Happy trails!
I enjoy watching these videos 👍😎
Ahh great! Another long format video of your adventures. You always look so happy out in the wilderness. It is very cosy and interesting to watch!
Thank you for tuning in! Happy trails.
Nice video... just a tad on the chilly 🥶 side for this Texas boy ! Thanks
Smoothing it for sure bud. Thanks for sharing keep it up love your videos man.
Thanks for watching! More coming soon.
I just got some of those bottles for the family, first thing I thought was how nice this would be for camping! My daughter used one when we camped on New Years and she loved it.
Also those beaver tails look pretty fun, I’ll have to make some with the kids.
Cheers!
The hot water bottles really make a difference! They're definitely great for camping. Thank you for watching!!
I’ve been so looking forward to your next video, and this one was spot on. You have a way of bringing a peaceful and calming mood to my soul. Also love the winter weather. Stay safe.
Thank you for your kind words! Happy trails.
I like that pole secured from behind.
Me too. It worked quite well! Thanks for watching.
@@KuskBushcraft quite brilliant actually. Pure physics.
That reverse tent pole really worked out well! Always a pleasure to watch you put your camp and cooking skills to work sir. Thing I always feared and had happen a few times was having some freak gust of wind clear all the snow from some nearby tree top I thought I had setup well clear of, and drop it right down on my gear, or worse my fire.😂 I entertained the local wildlife with my profanity on those occasions and when I saw that tree swaying feared the worse for you. Glad it didn't happen, great video!
😂 Thanks for sharing my friend! Happy trails!
Love the ridge pole idea. I've got to try that.
Great video. I especially like the way you focused on the knots.
Proper knots go a long way in the outdoors 👍 Thanks for watching!
18:25 man you are legend. Absolute Fire Chill Vibes🎉
Thank you for watching!
Hearing you say bannock brought bacc memories
Nice!!
..i just happen to be making "FryBread", myself!
I will try the 'sweet' verison that you made..

More of this please! ❤
More coming soon 👍
Awesome job with the beaver tails. You're the first person I've seen do them out in the wilderness. Great job 👏
Thanks for watching!
Listening to you crunch down those Beaver tails made my mouth start to water excellent overnighter my friend
They were delicious! Thanks for watching.
Nice job on that shelter pitch and those breads.
mate, those beaver tails look incredible. i will be trying that. Good to see you back! we all appreciate your calm expertise.
Hope the recipe works well for you! Happy trails my friend!
GREAT video! Can't wait for 2024.

That fry bread was funnel cake without the powdered sugar pretty much gotta love how different countries have the same style of food but have a twist to them
Growing up, mom called them, dough gods!!! Im salivating watching you eat them!!!❤ yummm!!!!!
They certainly are delicious!! Thanks for watching!
I enjoy watching your videos very much and always look forward to seeing the notifications come. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you for tuning in! Happy trails.
Ryley, you have the best backwoods cuisine.
Thank you!!
I’m gonna try that breakfast recipe. Learning so much from you. Thanks for bringing simplicity and nature back into this crazy obsessed world.
Man's really living the good life
Thanks for watching!
That was a big ass slip knot! Glad I watched that.
The knot I used to tighten the line is called a taut-line hitch. 👍 Thanks for watching!
I enjoy watching your videos. One of the best ones out there.
Thank you for watching!
I really enjoyed this immensely. A nice shelter. The meals you made looked good. Cheers, and God Bless! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️🇨🇦
Thanks for watching! God bless you too!
Thoroughly entertaining video. I love your calm attitude and deep knowledge of the pastime you clearly love.
Thank you so much for watching!!!
Genuinely good for the soul. Sat here enjoying the heat of the wood burner at home as the last log dies down to embers I'm almost there in the woods too! Nice work!
Thank you for tuning in!!
Hey there Ryley, thanks for the great content, I learn something new every time. That hatchet handle looks hand-carved. I've been wanting to start hand carving tool handles e.g. axe, knife, etc. Ever thought about doing a few videos on your process for custom tool handles along with some tips/tricks? Take care.
Thanks for tuning in! I have thought about making a series on handle making. It seems to be getting increasingly difficult to find suitable handles for tools without breaking the bank. In the future I will share how I harvest wood, process the wood into suitable handles, then fix the handles to the tools themselves. Thanks for the comment. Happy trails!
Looking forward to it! Thank you. By the way, perhaps I missed it, but was there no steel wedge in the hatchet handle? Is that to allow for re-seating the head and wood wedge over time?@@KuskBushcraft
There's no steel wedge. I find these small hatchets don't need a steel wedge as the wood wedge glued in place is sufficient enough.
I always wait for your latest video and this is the answer. Thank You
Thank you for watching!
Glory to you brother kusk
Thanks for watching!
Awesome camp my friend! Thanks for sharing 🤠
Thank you for watching!
Honestly, if he made a 5 hour long video like this, I'd still watch it through to the end. So satisfying.
Real nice camp😊Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Wathing this kind of videos I never realized over 30 minutes just passed , it is mesmerizing
great adventure! enjoy every minute!
You certainly know your way around the forest. Picked up some good tips from you. 😊
This is so inspiring! I can't wait until my little dude is just a bit older so we can drag the hubby out and give this style of camping a try. And the breads!!! I'll try those even sooner!
Right on man, I've been wanting to get out for a winter over night but have been hesitant because I don't have a solid sleep system or any experience haha. I'm not into expensive gear so I've been waiting for decent wool blankets to pop up for cheap or free. Thanks for sharing how you do it. I'll be going back to check out past videos now that I'm here!
Yours is hands down the absolute best bushcraft channel on TH-cam¡!
really awesome camping technique
