I recently bought the Samsung QN90A for a bright livingroom & got a perfect panel. LOVE it. Zippy menu system & apps. Looks great. I'm considering getting another one or maybe the LG C1 for the darker bedroom... Update to my response... Quality controls on these panels and builds vary. I had a panel break and needed to replace the TV. Thankfully it was inside my return window. I got a 50' for my bedroom and went through about 5 of these before getting a good one. There were several issues including frame damage, screen damage, and rubber lining damage.

Watching these side by side was very very hard to discern which one I liked more. I feel like it's about 50/50 with some scenes looking way better on the samsung and the others looking better on the OLED. Since I will be buying this go around to replace a TV in my brighter living room, I will probably be happier with the QLED. That sounds like Mogwai logic
You won’t have more Mogwai as long as you don’t get one wet, and you won’t have gremlins as long as you don’t feed them after midnight
People sometimes fall asleep mid-movie or during a tv show binge; the last thing I want is for those instances to add up over a couple of years and then all of the sudden I have menu screens or header bars or channel logo’s faintly remaining on the screen.
DSE is seemingly a screen lottery issue now-a-days, so that’s not something I’m looking forward to dealing with if I get a QN90A, but the dull brightness of the G1 and the ABL that kicked in on some of the daytime nature clips in this review are also things I don’t want to have to deal with even on a somewhat regular basis…
I’m leaning towards the Samsung but maybe my better play is to get a really nice power sofa this year and hope that either of next years flagship models address some of the aforementioned issues to a better degree…
If OLED (or a non-organic equivalent) comes out with a model with literally virtually no risk of burn in, even in the event of prolonged use with headers or HUD’s or logo’s or menus being kept up regularly for hours (either from binge playing or falling asleep before turning off the screen) AND addresses the lack of brightness capability AND finds a smoother application of their ABL (or no longer needs one at all) then I’m surely to get an LG OLED
with that said, if Samsung is able to address the noticeable blooming that happens in more than a few situations, the black crushing/lack of finer black details in various situations and can manage to address the DSE screen lottery then I’d be all about that QLED/miniQLED life
MicroQLED is beyond cost prohibitive for me and they have yet to announce a 65” version… that and I have no idea how good or bad it is compared to miniQLED or OLED’s…

Mate, I kicked three gaming monitors and two TV’s to the kerb for a 48” C1 as a monitor, and a 65” c1 for a TV. I don’t care what anyone says, you cannot beat self emitting pixels period. If in your opinion OLED is better for movies, what makes it less better for gaming than Q9FN, peak brightness?, who cares. I’d rather have 800 nits of a pure image in HDR than 1700 nits of blinding oversaturated crap. Anything dark on screen isn’t even a contest. Doesn’t matter how many dimming zones the LED has. OLED is superior, Micro-LED is superior again what technology is that based on?. Self emissive, why is that? Because that’s where end-game TV tech is, not LED. I don’t know why I’m even replying when my original comment is a fact not an opinion.

I purchased the LG 55 in. CX OLED 4K HDR Smart TV with AI ThinQ OLED55CXPUA. I looked at all of the the other TVs, including the Samsung (which I really like the brand), and landed on the above TV. Really really like it. This TV is amazing for watching HD, 4k and all the other Ultra HD and 4k modes. I have it in a room that does not have a lot of light. The TV contrast is amazing. The picture detail, also amazing. If you have the money (because this TV is more than other 4k televisions), spend it on the LG OLED. As an aside, I did look at Sony OLED as well. Based on the reviews online, I went with the LG because the price on the Sony was much more and there were very few reviewers that liked the Sony Bravia over the LG.

Have my C1 coming on Sunday, after watching this comparison I have no regrets. Sure the Samsung is brighter but the colours and richness in detail on the C1 is just better. My current TV is around 300 nits dimmer then the C1 (Bravia 450 nits compared to C1 around 700-750) and I’ve never found the brightness to be terrible. Also not a fan of the vignetting around the edge of the Samsung around 7:13 mark. Great comparison as always, one of the best tech channels on TH-cam.

I 100% agree. I have the qn900a 8 k tv. This TV can hit 4000 nits! The HDR is amazing and OLED doesn't come close. The black levels are also good.
I am not very impressed with all that. What's with obsession with OLED and the black levels? I have watched both TVs and the OLED is just not interesting. Why would I buy a TV so I get better black levels? Are they obsessed over the black bars at the bottom and top of the TV when you're watching a movie? 🤣🤣 Seriously, I don't want to see black content. I want to see bright content with excellent HDR which pops off my screen. OLED cannot do that and it never will be able to do that.
Another big thing with OLED is the viewing angles. I could care less. Most people including myself watch a TV straight on 99% of the time. I occasionally get a handful of people in my living room, but that rarely happens. What do I care what they're viewing angle is when they'll be out of my house in an hour?
LG lost the smartphone war and they will be losing the TV war very soon. Even with its loyal fans, Samsung has almost 50% of the market share
Furthermore, for those who must have OLED, you're in luck. Samsung's OLED will be out soon which puts LG's OLED to shame. You will get the best of both worlds with Samsung's OLED. Bright HDR images and pure blackness. LG is out for the count.

When I compared it to the LG CX 77 inch I found my eyes gravitating to the Samsung way more mostly because of how bright the specular high lights popped more while simultaneously watching several Marvel movies on both. IMHO you can't go wrong with either but for me I prefer the QN90A simply for the lighting effects illuminating out of the screen causing my mancave to light up as well. Also I can adjust the Qn90a to look just as good as the CX but not the other way around because of the nits being higher on the Qn90a. To get a good picture, I modified a Cinema setting by first putting the contrast up to 100%. Then, with a brightness adjustment, I got the stunning picture I was looking for. No crushed blacks. I'm unfulfilled, though, with this TV in that, while I have my stunning picture, I feel I must be doing something wrong to get to the picture I have now.

One thing I’ll disagree with is the black level scoring. No matter what LCD panels improve upon it’ll never be able to mimic the black levels of an oled. This is not based on assumption but on facts. Technically speaking the QLED should have gotten 4/5 for it’s black levels, as it does a decent job but can’t compete with any oled. It’s a technical fact. I have a habit of watching the tv in the evening or with the curtains closed so OLED will always be my preference. As for brightness, these panels are plenty bright enough. I’d choose accuracy and realism over pop any day. You still can’t argue with infinite contrast either. It does make a huge difference in dark environments. Either way, you can’t go wrong with either tv. But the advantages of an oled still outweigh traditional lcd panels to me personally.

Contrary. People who already own OLED, such as myself, will never buy OLED again. Burn in is unavoidable, no matter how careful you are. Green blob is also prevalent. Excellent review as always.. I really do enjoy the unique thing you do where you tweak the TVs to make them look virtually identical just to show that each TV can be had to look like the other.
The DSE is such a let down. Samsung needs to have better quality assurance.
Also too bad it fails a little in HDR. Not sure if that came down to Dolby Vision vs HDR10 in your examples?
Gaming is surprisingly good quality. But I do wonder if in very dark areas it might not have that blueish haze of blooming at times that can be distracting.. Actually surprising that it has so much of it givens 792 zones. I bet even the Q90T will have less blooming in some scenarios.. I wonder what is causing that on this new MiniLED.
I hope you will test the Sony X90j and even more so the X95J. Do same comparison with C1 again and if you still bought another or replaced the QN90A.

The DSE (Dirty Screen Effect) is real. I recently bought the 75" Q80T, and I'm sending it back. It was really weird. I didn't notice DSE when I briefly played Celeste, but I noticed it right away when I played Bloodroots on XSX. There's a boss battle where you're running on a vertical plane, and it's noticeable when you move left to right. Blooming is bad as well. I played Tetris Effect, and whole screen felt really cloudy. I'm exchanging it for the C1.

As he said about the zebra shot.
" samsung looked like it had even better black levels"
Basically this phenomena is occurring since the scene is being portrayed at an immense dynamic range, with near 2000 nits highlights on the NeoQled
The 'black' level, right next to something extremely bright, will as a result create an amazing contrast.
The perceived difference between dark and bright is extreme, therefore blacks suddenly appears darker, relative to incredibly bright highlights.
If the oled had any peak brightness worth writing home about, it would become very apparent just how good an infinite contrast ratio really is.
But at the end of the day, you can't fake brightness, nothing comes for free.
If the screen can't even deliver the amount of cd/m2 nits, a regular small lamp on your table is delivering, then the screen will not be able to fool your brain into believing it's actually portraying a sunny day at high noon.
Heck it won't even deliver a street lamp at night.

It can get bright saturated colors unlike most oled tvs usually it's only darker colors. This tv gets bright for an oles also but I actually like using it like older Sony tvs by setting it on gradation preffered tone mapping not the brightness preffered one. It is outstanding man and you can even add black adjust for a ton of depth and ads live color and pull out insane saturation. My art was saturated out of the box my buddies wasn't as much as mine but the settings you can access is amazing to add whatever you want to the image it's so versatile man. Best upsclaing I've seen. Best 4k I've seen it adds even more details then I have ever seen from any tv. The motion is good regardless of what quantom says haha. This tv has outstanding motion. You can clearly see the separation of different effects if the movie was not tested on OLED screens. The OLED Screen is also not a longevity proposition. By design it will have a shorter life than other TVs, but you should still be able to get a good 5 years out of it. For HDR content there is no competition for OLED until uLED.

@@KevinSmith-qi5yn I think most TV purchases should be considered a "Consumable" item. Trying to sell an old TV after say 5 years can be a nightmare. They drop it value to almost nothing and people still try to haggle you down if you even get anyone interested. The larger it is, its even harder to get rid of. I gave away my last 65" because it just wasn't worth it. A family member can enjoy it more than I will the couple hundred I get off of some cheap-o who doesn't deserve that good of deal lol

I just got the qn90a 75” and it’s the absolute best tv I’ve ever owned. I’ve had Oled in a bright room it wouldn’t even be a comparison. In a dark room, wow it’s amazing, not oled level but close and much brighter. I don’t see blooming or banding, it’s perfect. I play games so this is a must compared to Oled, as that’s why I had to replace my last one with burn in.

I believe that the only difference between them, is that the 90 has 1 hdmi 2.1 port While the 95 has 4. So if you need more then one, the 95 might be better. Not entirely sure.

Stopped watching when the guy said the color temperature was different between the two TV's, and that he hadn't bothered to correct this. Well, there goes any hopes of a real comparison.

@@SPPACATR I guess he's doing an "out of the box" comparison as most people won't get their TV calibrated, but yes, you're right. There are also lots of ways to adjust the picture on the C1 to get it looking as good, or possibly better than the QN90A.
