I've seen both of these televisions in person. They both look fantastic!!! Close your eyes, point, and which ever your finger lands on, you've gotten yourself a fabulous television. The only thing that I didn't like with the G4 is that it gets extremely hot. I put my hands on the screen and wow, that thing gets extremely hot in comparison to the Samsung. So if you're buying the G4 as a room television and you're pairing it with a gaming PC that gets hot, then you had better keep your AC running all day.
@luisda3602 don't take my word for it go into your nearest electronics store and touch it. As a matter of fact the gentleman at Best Buy was the one that actually bought it to my attention.
@luisda3602 also take these "expert" reviews with a grain of salt. Remember that what they are seeing you may not see the same thing on your set. In other words, you determine whether you like a product or not, not them.
I could actually feel the heat from the tv without touching it and just looking at it, the Samsung I had to put my hand close to before I could feel anything.
I purchased the 77 inch LG G4. I also own a G2. The MLA I feel like washing out the image to much. I returned the G4 and got the Samsung s90D. IMO the QD OLEDS blow the doors off of WOLED. I would take the s90d over any LG OLED since I’ve owned both. No comparison. LG is going to have to get with the program if they want to compete with Sony A95L and Samsung QD OLEDs
I went with the S95D because I'm not rich enough to have a light-controlled room dedicated to watch films in filmmaker's mode. It's a game changer, no two ways about it. And the sound is way above average if you hang it on the wall.
Most people will benefit from the high quality antiglare coating. But the people that haunt these sort of comment sections are wannabe home theatre min maxers that will turn their nose up at something for the perception of 'inaccuracy' and 'contrast' and lack of high end dolby features, while acting like they have perfect light control over their living spaces all the time. It's a pretty simple equation - if you have bright light sources reflecting off the TV (sun/reflections/lights/etc), you'll want the TV that counteracts that. If you don't, then you'll probably want the TV that's more color and motion accurate.
@@Zaptruder You said it even better. And if you control all the factors in the "dedicated home theatre" that everybody keeps talking about like they're millionaires then you should get a Laser TV.

I can VOUCH for the longevity of LG Oled. I have a 10 yr old LG OLED from when they had the curved screen OLED. Have used it EXTENSIVELY and it works without any FLAW to this day. Excellent picture. People still marvel at its clarity. Not one pixel missing. No banding problem. I watch it daily for several hours, and have for 10 years. LG OLEDs are a beast
@@mdk8783 Very SLIGHT burn in two specific locations [limited to a tiny area] which are NOT visible to anyone else EXCEPT me! Because I am extra sensitive and vigilant about this TV and on the look out for burn-in. This minor burn-in is only visible when a yellow background is on the screen. [SOURCE of BURN-IN: TH-cam videos I watch 95% of the time, through ROKU. The TH-cam ICON on the top corner has a slight impression/burn-in on the screen, that ONLY I have noticed. Similarly, the progress bar of TH-cam Videos, that has left a very slight faint horizontal line at the bottom, about 1.5 inch along and above the bottom edge]. Again NOT one person has observed that slight faint hint of the burn-in. I too forget that there is that burn-in and may notice is about once in a month when a full yellow background appears. My point is that this is the oldest OLED from LG and their technology has improved manifold since, especially how they address the burn-in. If I cannot notice a burn-in on a heavily used LG OLED after 10 years of extensive use [4 hours EVERY DAY, for 10 years]. And 95% of the usage over 10 yrs has been youtube videos and yet I get non Noticeable burn-in. Mine is a 65 inch curved OLED and I have been tempted to buy a new LG OLED when the prices get dirt cheap on Black Friday etc. But my TV works super-fantastic and I calibrated it myself so well, that tech savvy people are stunned by the clarity of my TV. Let me tell you that I find VERY LITTLE improvement in the latest model LG G4 or C4 [on display at BestBuy] over my 10 yr TV. And I am NOT exaggerating. I am sure if I buy a new one and calibrate it myself, I may get better results (surely coz the tech has improved so much in 10 years). But from what I see on display, I would keep my current TV for another 10 years. This thing is a beast and I have used it as such. (some times watch movies on Prime etc and News etc on other live TV, in addition to TH-cam, but have worked this thing real hard. I just don't have the heart to replace it).
@@mdk8783 There is very minor [not yet noticed by anyone else, but me]. This is the very faint impression of the 'TH-cam' logo, since I only play youtube through my Roku and that faint impression/slight burn in, shows ONLY when the background/screen color is pure yellow [for example when Ads play which have full yellow background]. Only I have noticed it and no one else in my family [since I am very laser focused on such things]. Not bad at all for a 10 yr old LG OLED [this was the earliest version of OLED] and I have really used this TV hard. Given how much the OLED tech has evolved, and especially the LG OLED standards are far advanced given they are the pioneers and the leader of the pack, I am sure the new OLEDs are even better. I plan on picking up an 83" OLED later this year or the next for another room.
Got 65, S95D for 2500$ (including installation). Absolutely love it, can watch TV with full sunlight coming. No regrets as G4 and A95L both are around 1100-1000$ more expensive here in India. Absolutely love the matte finish. I find DV overrated for streaming services, dynamic mapping on TV itself works pretty great. Calibrated the TV using my phone, then switched on the bell and whistles I like.
I am kinda regretting getting Samsung now. I got the S95C in India last year and it died on me just 1 month after warranty is up. 2L down in the drain. I suggest you get the extended warranty else a huge loss awaits. Also, Samsung HDR oversharpens a lot and looks very weird. I will probably opt for LG G4 now since they offer 5 year panel warranty.
I was between these two TVs, and just pulled the trigger on a 77" G4 two days ago. The deciding factor for me was something I don't think was mentioned - warranty! The LG has a 5-year warranty on their panel that covers burn-in. That was the key selling point that pushed me to LG.

If you are fortunate enough to be able to afford either one. You are winning at life! I chose the Samsung 77" S95D due to me being in the Samsung universe (Q990D soundbar, S24 phone, watch, S7+ tablet, etc...). I really liked the G4 at Best Buy, but the deciding factor was the Samsung universe. I have a darkened room, so the anti-glare matte finish was not necessary, but appreciated. Either way, enjoy your movies, streams, GAMING and especially the company you are viewing with. Destiny 2 Titans for life! Both TVs will make you appreciate the power of the imagination. I just got finished viewing the IMAX International Space Station documentary in 4k. MAN-A-LIVE!, was that amazing with the soundbar!

@@brianzoro9652best to you but in reality Samsung tends to be one of the weakest options in its bracket. I tend to go with reality when looking at products to buy.

1 year warranty Samsung vs 5 year on LG. New Tech vs Old faith. Know which one I'm buying. LG no doubt. QDOLED is yet to be proven for longevity. SD90 burns hot without a heatsink and white base line.
Getting my G4 delivered Wednesday i can’t wait!!! I was checking both of these tv’s out but the LG is on sale for 2700 compared to the Samsung being over 3k still
Another great comparison review. Personally I like to see the S90D against the LG G4, I’ve seen the Samsung S95D alongside the S90D in store and preferred the S90D picture.
I was always in favour of LG Oled because of their great price performance. I have the C1 and am still impressed by the picture quality. Now I've noticed that the colours are richer with Samsung, even calibrated. I'm giving Samsung a chance this year. Even if Dilby Vision is missing, I think there is enough HDR10+ material. It's a pity that LG doesn't combine Nanocell/ Qned with OLED. Perfect black level with the colour volume of Quantum Dot.
You can see the color luminance of QDOLED in the works here. It's brighter in a lot of scene too but no mentioned about it, like the yellow feather scene. But put the panel performance aside. For a complete package as a TV I think LG is better overall. From Dolby support to a proper implementation of HGIG for gamer.
The whole topic of OLED is fascinating. Only a couple of years ago, many people were saying that the technology had matured to the point that further advancements were unlikely. Fortunately, they were wrong.
I think LG G4 has a better image processing chip than Samsung. I think it is as good as Sony image processor. When I say a chip I’m actually including the image processing software too. And, because of the software aspect, I don’t think Samsung can catch up next year either. The software division of Samsung is.. just a joke. It really is.
Every time we talk about speakers on flagship tvs I cringe. Do people who spend 3-5k on a tv really not use an external sound system? I would love to see lite versions of flagships where thickness is minimized by removing internal sound
Whether or not you actually use it, does anyone actually *dislike* having an included stand? I'm not even using my TV's stand but I still recognize it as a requirement to use the product without having to spend more on a mounting device and thus something that every company should include in the box.
I prefer the qd-oleds for the colors. I think LGs w-oleds look a little sterile/cold or something like this. It's hard to explain and just my personal preference. Also it doesn't help to increase the colour temperature to a warmer tone on the LG oled, I've tried it.
I've used both and can say that the LG's colors are basically easier on the eyes, the Sony's are simply too saturated in color, especially that color is uncomfortable to look at for a long time, you don't need to worry about it. Regarding the panel technology of both, because they both have 100% sRGB, there is no difference other than the high saturation in red on the Sony, making it feel more colorful. QD oled will generally be better if you put the TV in a dark room but the better balance is still WD oled, don't care how superior QD oled is marketed, I'm sick of that talk, what we need is a real experience
Caleb I don’t think you need to worry so much about putting forward your choice. Not sure if making a pick leads to getting flamed or something. But you don’t need to make a big point that it’s up to us what we buy. This we know. We come here for your opinion.
I choose the qd oled I went with the Sony A95L since its better than both of these tvs. My main reason is color volume the colors on the qd oled ore more vibrant and saturated while still being accurate, Sony is the only one that can pull that off. If I had to choose one of these I would choose the Samsung after all color is the most important thing on a tv and the samsung has the better color volume.
that was my question: where's the comparable sony? isn't sony going to have the same screen as the samsung with stronger internal performance (and google tv > tizen?).
@@CaliFinestDemon Nope not in certain areas. I think you dont understand the tech,WRGHB OlED is an old tech it uses white light for brightness so that means the brighter it gets the more washed out the colors will get. QD OLED uses a QD light for colors so when it gets bright the color remains bright so colors will always look better in bright scenes on the QD OLED.
@@vcam-g9h In certain areas like color aspects yes. But overall they are much pretty close. Ppl have reviewed both and said as such they are very close.
Agreed. Samsung is not in the conversation at all. I can't spend this much money and get no dolby vision, matte screen, aggressive dimming, poor color accuracy, poor qc, etc. Samsung are not a serious competitor. They should wake us up when they're ready to try.
@@gallynuts I think out of box color accuracy is best on G4. I’m not sure what the results would be after calibration but the G4 definitely has more natural and realistic color to my eyes. I also find the image on the G4 cleaner and more detailed than on the A95L. I’m not convinced the processing on the A95L is any better than the Alpha 11. It may be but I’m just not convinced yet.
@@OgoTheKeeper Not to forget the 40gbps bandwidth limit. He says it's not an issue, but it actually is. Remember that fancy 144hz that these screens come with? PC gaming at 4k@144hz + 10 bit color = 40gbps isn't enough, so it switches to DSC to compensate. DSC is fine but the S95D constantly goes to black screen when switching from windowed to exclusive fullscreen for games and applications, 3 to 5 seconds each time. That's so beyond aggravating that it's a complete dealbreaker as far as I'm concerned.
Caleb, I know I'm an optimist, but I'm hopeful that one day sports viewing will be part of these TV reviews. Especially considering how significant sports are in culture.
As much as I like LG, at this point I’m beginning to become more concerned abt future proofing technology, i.e, QD tech and what’s gonna b produced/available for it in tv n movies.
I would love a S90D vs G4 for Price vs Perfornace video! I consider myself a video enthusiast but without seeing both TV’s side by side I will have to say that I would be extremely content with either of these TV’s =)
S90D at half the cost of an LG G4? With less performance than the S95D? No no, you goofballs (as previously mentioned). The true comparison is the A95L vs G4.
@@AlanMane No it’s not,DV demolishes any HDR content to clarity and colouring,Detailing,The reason Samsung don’t want to implement it and pay the license is because it rivals a inferior HDR10+

No Dolby Vision isn't a deal breaker to me it has HDR10 and HDR10+ that's good enough. It's the lack of DTS, poor color accuracy, and matte coating that throws me off more.

Had the S95D for a month now, best decision ever. Yes the blacks sometimes get grayed by light but better than seeing reflections like a mirror. It’s not for everyone but it’s perfect for me.
Well said. Reflections are super distracting and completely overlap certain critical details. I would prefer the anti-glare coating to the glossy coating any day.
I just purchased the 55in S90D and i find myself lowering the color volume on certain movies because it’s to much color pop. But playing video games or watching marvel movies with lots of color it’s excellent. Movies that doesn’t need extra color pop i find myself adjusting the color volume because i knows it’s over kill or that’s not the real color of the object or person. So it’s seems Samsung over exaggerate color and you find yourself adjusting every movie you watch to more or less color is it the same for the G4 and how do the A95L stand up against these.
If you calibrate the TV yourself following some help from the forums it will fix this. I had the same issues with my S95C. In Game Mode you 100% need to also lower saturation to make it more acurate.
Samsung oneconnect is great option for most people as most people are not nitpicking on that 1% quality difference these 2 tv. Most people want less clutter and Samsung oneconnect does deliver that, and LG needs to do this next yr instead of wireless box.
Yeah, no matter how you look at it dispersing ambiental light over a large area that is supposed to be black means the black is no longer perceived by the eyes as black.
Correct. Its even more pronounced in game mode. It will be worse on the s95d but only if enough light hits the screen, it then disperses across it giving a grey hazy affect
I went with a G4 83" due to the totality of factors, but I have to admit that my "gut" remains jealous of QD-OLED. :) That "wow" factor is for reals. If there was an 83" S95D my decision might have been different.
Great video. My question is what are the best calibration settings for the best picture quality for the G4 or is it best to just use one of the presets?
Especially at the premium price range. Perhaps in the budget to mid price range the exclusion of Dolby Vision and DTS could be expected, but if you’re paying top dollar for a high end TV I would expect all the bells and whistles especially when Dolby Vision and DTS are very common and standard formats.
Samsung quality sucks, my S95C died just after 1 year and a month so I am out of luck as no warranty claim can happen now. I wonder if this is why Samsung does not offer a longer warranty period while LG giving 5 year panel warranty as standard on G series. I made this huge mistake.
Ooh man here i was expecting a review between the a95l and lgg4 still not decided what to buy between those tv's. Was waiting for your review Caleb. Please make a review.
You could: watch his last year's comparison "A95L vs G3 vs S95C" ... and consider the G4 shows a small general increase in brightness, a noticeable increase in game mode and a noticeable improvement in picture processing due to the next gen processor (closing the gap to the A95L almost fully). Basically it seems to be a good idea to wait for the G4 price to fall and then pick one ... the A95L will most probably remain on it's high price...
When I saw the S95D at Best Buy, there was no comparison. I really hate glossy screens. Imagine quality is meaningless if you see your own reflection on the screen. The fact the the S95D is a REALLY good TV in addition to its anti-glare screen is just icing on the cake.
G4 has better black levels which means it beats the s95d in contrast.and by the way s95d lifts black levels by a huge margin in normal to bright lit rooms
That is not the case. there is a slight lift in blacks but not by a huge margin. the biggest mistake you can do is to judge the coating from photos or videos... it´s GREAT when you gonna see it in person. and it´s even greater in your home, because of different lighting conditions.
Its the same blacks as s95c, they are extremely grey compared to the g4. I own both. Playing diablo 4 is a total shitshow on the samsung, the dark eery feel is gone because of greys. There is absolutely a significant difference in blacks

@@yonkocommander5531 right. It performs identical to a glossy TV in a dark room
My concern is how much brighter does the 95D have to be to push through the matte screen and does that increase its burn in chances

Wow. What a conclusion you got for just touching the tv, actually is contrary of what tons of the videos of experts says
The s95d runs hotter. I think it pulls twice as much power. Probably just what content was playing or something.

Turn on MI on the S95D, the sound of the TV will be much more cinematic and full of life when there are events on the screen.

Very interesting! No burn in too?

I'm actually surprised how well it's held up.

I was between these two TVs, and just pulled the trigger on a 77" G4 two days ago. The deciding factor for me was something I don't think was mentioned - warranty! The LG has a 5-year warranty on their panel that covers burn-in. That was the key selling point that pushed me to LG.

Another great comparison review. Personally I like to see the S90D against the LG G4, I’ve seen the Samsung S95D alongside the S90D in store and preferred the S90D picture.
S90D uses 2nd gen qd panel, where’s S95D uses current 3rd gen qd-OLED panels.
Probably down to the type of anti reflective screen.

But put the panel performance aside. For a complete package as a TV I think LG is better overall. From Dolby support to a proper implementation of HGIG for gamer.
Im going with the S95D for my living room.
So no Dolby vision and not jet black OLED and poor sound on the Samsung. Clearly LG is the winner
Every time we talk about speakers on flagship tvs I cringe. Do people who spend 3-5k on a tv really not use an external sound system? I would love to see lite versions of flagships where thickness is minimized by removing internal sound

If I had to choose one of these I would choose the Samsung after all color is the most important thing on a tv and the samsung has the better color volume.
that was my question: where's the comparable sony? isn't sony going to have the same screen as the samsung with stronger internal performance (and google tv > tizen?).
LG G4 and A95l have been compared and they are very close in picture quailty thats its splitting hairs.

@@OgoTheKeeper Not to forget the 40gbps bandwidth limit. He says it's not an issue, but it actually is. Remember that fancy 144hz that these screens come with? Had the S95D for a month now, best decision ever. Yes the blacks sometimes get grayed by light but better than seeing reflections like a mirror. It’s not for everyone but it’s perfect for me.
Well said. Reflections are super distracting and completely overlap certain critical details. I would prefer the anti-glare coating to the glossy coating any day.
People that have cable or an antenna connected to their TV, having physical numbers is a must have.
I can't stand samsung's color scheme it's WAY over saturated and unrealistic.
If you calibrate the TV yourself following some help from the forums it will fix this. I had the same issues with my S95C. In Game Mode you 100% need to also lower saturation to make it more acurate.

Yeah, no matter how you look at it dispersing ambiental light over a large area that is supposed to be black means the black is no longer perceived by the eyes as black.

Great video. My question is what are the best calibration settings for the best picture quality for the G4 or is it best to just use one of the presets?
No DTS
No Dolby Vision
No Samsung
Especially at the premium price range. Perhaps in the budget to mid price range the exclusion of Dolby Vision and DTS could be expected, but if you’re paying top dollar for a high end TV I would expect all the bells and whistles especially when Dolby Vision and DTS are very common and standard formats.
Samsung quality sucks, my S95C died just after 1 year and a month so I am out of luck as no warranty claim can happen now. I wonder if this is why Samsung does not offer a longer warranty period while LG giving 5 year panel warranty as standard on G series. I made this huge mistake.

Buy Samsung , better tv ,
G4 has better black levels which means it beats the s95d in contrast.and by the way s95d lifts black levels by a huge margin in normal to bright lit rooms
That is not the case. there is a slight lift in blacks but not by a huge margin. the biggest mistake you can do is to judge the coating from photos or videos... it´s GREAT when you gonna see it in person. and it´s even greater in your home, because of different lighting conditions.
@@trumpetmusic5672I don't think you or anyone is watching Dolby Vision on the s95D either😂
Its the same blacks as s95c, they are extremely grey compared to the g4. I own both. Playing diablo 4 is a total shitshow on the samsung, the dark eery feel is gone because of greys. There is absolutely a significant difference in blacks
@@xforx8672I've been telling people to go best buy and see it for themselves.the s95d has a flat acrylic looking image even next to the Samsung mini LEDs.the rtings review comparison actually comes closest to what you actually see.
@@xforx8672it’s mini led type of black - not terrible when no direct reflections but contrast is lesser blacks are slightly higher. The result is not that you would say gray blacks necessarily but flatter picture - 3D effect that micro contrast gives is lost.
