The thing i found about brightness is that if your TV is too bright (like the QN90), you can always turn it down. If your TV isn't bright enough, there's nothing you can do to make it brighter

Definitely. I have the QN90C and keep it on 35 brightness when watching in the evening/night, with active tone mapping on. This way I can turn it up during the day or even during the night when certain movies are very dark (which is a lot of them these days).

Hi KG, would you mind to add in a set of scenes for your upcoming oled vs mini led?
    1) White background with different black font, grey font, static with various size for 3 sec.
    2) Put a few lines of color bar vertically from left to right. Will there be any color/brightness change on the fonts?
    3) Black background with different white font, grey font.
    4) Put a few lines of color bar vertically from left to right.
    5) A sudden change of timing with random fonts of white background to black background.
A demo films is calculated to hide the bads and show the goods, with this, its easy to see if the content is being artificial dims, brightness changed, and color lost.

Saw these 2 side by side in a store. 48 inch c3 and 50 inch qn90c. As the demo video cycled through sports, movie, animation etc the c3 was better every time. Also the qn90c had terrible viewing angles. Moving just slightly off centre and the picture immediately started to look washed out. Bought the c3. At first I was disappointed that the picture seemed quite dim until i switched off auto pixel brightness and wow! As bright as you could ever want.

After 2yrs of deliberating I ended up buying an OLED and I have to be honest I was quite disappointed in the end. Yes the dark room viewing experience is unparalleled but coming from a Sony LCD with 1000nits full screen brightness, the LG just seemed so dull in comparison.

This was one of the best comparisons of the two technologies (QLED and OLED). You can really see the differences in different conditions. I'm torn on which one to use. Love how colors just pop when scenes are dark on OLED, but the C3 (OLED) isn't nearly as bright as the QN90C in bright scenes (QLED). Leaning on the QN90C for general purpose (both PC productivity as well as gaming).

@@VeteranGamer_ This is why after agonising for months over OLED vs mini led, I am going mini LED. The final straw was seeing what happened - after only 700 hours - to that widescreen 21:9 Dell OLED that Rtings tested with 16:9 content (so black bars left and right). It had permanent burn-in due to the black bars. And black bars are something I will always have since 95% of my content is either 4:3 (about 50%) or 1.85:1 - 2.4:1 (about 45%). Only 5% would actually fill a 16:9 screen properly.

Oled is for sure better, but only for a specific time window. As long as you replace your OLED tv every 3-5 years, they’re amazing. Unfortunately, even without taking burn in into consideration, the organic material breaks down in OLED, diminishing color sharpness. You won’t notice it in person because it’s such a slow process until you put a new tv beside it.

On the QN90C Movie mode has Local Dimming set to Standard by default. I have switched that to High and some bright highlights have dropped, but also white backgrounds and colors are quite darker. To my eye it looks like the Standard option makes everything too bright and un-natural (I'm just looking at my Apple TV app launcher and comparing the colors on the app icons like TH-cam, Netflix with what I know they should be or what they are on my phone).
Also, high local dimming reduces blooming so I would rather have this than very bright highlights.
But what I don't understand is why Standard and High look exactly the same when active tone mapping is off (or in FMM). Any thoughts on that?

I just want to put this here, don’t trust anyone who says modern oled’s wont have burn in. They will, they just happen to be less than a year old and don’t have that opportunity unless being heavily used for gaming (stagnant things like a minimap will 100% cause burn in).
Next, remember due to OLED nature, it will also dim and lose saturation over time even if you don’t use it. Organic things break down, and there isn’t much you can do about it.
If you want to have an OLED for all that it offers above specifically nano led tech, be prepared to buy a new one every 3-5 years with very little resale value, or your tv will be worse than almost all LED TV’s, not even nano ones.
That’s the OLED tax, being replaced.

If you turn brightness down it will get sharper, that’s bleeding that’s distorting the image. It’s noticeable in person, but much less so than in the camera due to how cameras filter in the light.

This is excellent for people like me torn between the two technologies. Can anyone advise if I were to adopt a C3 / C4 OLED and watch 4:3 content only ever in a pitch black environment (so the brightness can be significantly lowered) would I need to be concerned with black bar burn in?

    • @TheDeathstar2000
      @TheDeathstar2000 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

Black bar pixels are off, therefore they do not encour the risk of burn in. Oled is actually recommended to watch that type of content because the black bars are a part of the tv that has been turned off, instead of the really dark grey an LCD shows in place of the black bars, granted the mini led FALD is better than most LCDs in that regard. You do however want to make sure what settings are the best for FALD in your use case, since, as said in the videos, game mode, for example, doesn't take advantage of the complete full array local dimming capabilities of the tv

You don't always see it but it's something that can worsen. I've seen other people show photos of theirs with less then mine amd complaining yet I'd settle with what they had. Not exactly. First, tvs are subjective. You like what you like. There is no right or wrong way to watch tv. Second. If you watch these lcd vs oled comparisons that KG does, the oleds look like you are wearing sunglasses when there is natural light, ice, snow, etc. He even mentions oleds deficiency in this type of content. I watch sports, old movies in sdr, Christmas movies, etc. I want it to look realistic, not dim. Ive always wanted an oled for the contrast, but they are just too dim for me. I thought maybe the G3 might look close to an lcd in vivid mode.
