- It had to be done. We had to drive the Tesla Model 3.
It's the brand that's brought up whenever we test any electric car. And one of the most impressive EVs we've driven this year has been Hyundai's Ioniq 6. Taking all the bits of the well-loved Ioniq 5, and shoving them under a new, streamlined sedan shape, it boosts range along with a more refined driving experience.
Yet the Model 3 is the compact electric sedan of the past six years, the best-seller you see dang near everywhere. The Model 3 sets the bar-so can Hyundai’s slippery four-door clear it?

I just switched to an Ioniq 6 from a Model 3 and it was the best decision Ive ever made.
Whys that?
Yah why’s that?
Tesla: no HUD, no ultrasound sensors, no ambient light, no interior equipment, no cooling seats, so I: no buy
Check again because the 2024 Model 3 has ambien light, cooling seats and so not sure what you are writing about here.
I'm not sure if you can call the ioniq 5 "clunky".
In its own respects its a beautiful design, really harking back to guigaro and strong angular body lines.
I think he's more referring to it being aerodynamically clunky.
@@mockingbird187 compared to the i6 everythign is aerodynamically clunky lol
@@Tantakugames Teslas, Lucid, Mercedes EQS and a few others can hang, but generally speaking, yes. Now compared to the Aptera, when/if it finally comes out, pretty much everything will be aerodynamically clunky. Ha!
My neighbor has the ionic..I tried to like it, but it's honestly ugly as hell
I think Korean cars such as Hyundai and Kia are sophisticated and stable in terms of design.
Although interesting, I wish you would have compared it with the M3 Long Range AWD. Comparing the RWD acceleration to an AWD sucks big time. Should have compared with the Ioniq 6 RWD which sucks at acceleration.
Price matters
I personally hate sun roofs...I would pay to have them replaced with metal roofs
a shade maybe?
They're nice for people in the back seat I guess. Don't really notice them as I'm driving.
Ioniq 6 has a retractable cover
You have a error in the video, in canada its not just FWD & Back parking, it also parallel parks / parking spot parks with auto leave parallel parking spot. It takes it time but works.
Would have loved some time stamps, having trouble finding when you went over the navigation and charger routing features of the Ionic
That's a good idea. We will try to include it in the future.
Wow the Ioniq6 is gamechanging!
This was a solid comparison.
Can the 18 inch wheels on a Model 3 be replaced using the 18 inch wheels from the Ioniq 6? I am leaning toward the Model 3, but I'm not a real big fan of the 18 inch Aero black wheels. The Ioniq 6 has the 18 inch wheels with the silver blades on them that I think look much more sleek.
LOTS of options in the Tesla aftermarket
"tight" up front.. that's odd.. I think everyone would agree that the front is rather big and airy.
I accept the Highland is not yet available, but a comparison test featuring a discontinued out of production model vs a brand new model is somewhat questionable.
You must own a tesla
@@themoviebay Taycan, 10 bellend points.
I bought the ionic 6 based on looks... Poor Man's CLS
Suggestions:
Background music is repetitive and not really relaxing. A smoother softer track would help
I'd like to hear about steering feeling - natural, engaging, numb
Can 6ft drivers stretch legs at the pedals
Does body position feel natural behind the steering wheel
The Tesla is a rough ride on poor pavement. Parts have long waiting delays. Hyundai often times have smaller issues with new models. And their garages are busy replacing GDI engines
HyunDei looks better, but Tesla might have better coding or software. They are EVs and it is better than any ICEV.
I wonder if the Shanghai Model 3 has a different suspension than the Fremont M3. People generally ding the Fremont M3 for being too tight and sporty for general comfort, while your Shanghai M3 seems to have been too soft and floaty for your taste.
I mean when comes to energy consumption the model 3 loses pretty hard that's so basically the Hyundai is much better energy efficient than the model 3
I'm not sure why you make a professional style review but make the amateur mistake of not using the M3LR. The extra power and weight make a big difference in how the car feels.
8:25 all these points are solved in the new model-3
I wanted to like the Ionic 6 though I think it's ugly. It is comfortable. But just having test driven a Model 3 - no comparison as to which is more fun to drive. The 3 is so responsive in power and steering. Argh - I didn't want to like the Tesla though it is pretty.
Is that a Base Model Ioniq 6? Because that is a Base Model 3
I want a sub $30k ev for daily commuters. Car companies seem to be catering to the rich.
Chevy Bolt is a solid, currently available option there.
What do you expect, someone has to pay for the R&D
They’re not catering to the rich, they just can’t make a cheaper model yet. All car companies are loosing money on their EV except Tesla. Tesla is trying very hard to produce one that the mass can afford.
Ioniq 6 should be compared with 2024 tesla 3, i guess
You compared a base Model 3 that costs $32,500 after the federal tax credit to a top of the line Ionic 6 that costs $57,200 and does not qualify for the federal tax credit? A $24,700 difference. As the great Joey Swoll says "Do better".
This is not just for the US market...
ioniq 6 does qualify for tax credit
@@chaostearsthis top of the line Ioniq 6 does not.
@@PNSPok. ~$17k difference without the US federal tax credit. You’re doing great.
Hyundai is offering $7,500 off on their new Ioniq 6 and that doesn’t include a dealer discount or an additional $2,500 if you currently drive a Hyundai. Basically the tax credit upfront
That tesla interior 🤢🤮.
yeah, the biggest mistake in automobile history, it feels like sitting in a bus
I don't understand how anyone in their right mind can compare the base Model to a fully loaded model, it makes no sense. At least next time, compare it to the 2nd best Model 3 (the Long Range) which competes with this Hyundai 6 Ioniq. I won't say the Performance because that is in a class of its own (for now until the Ioniq 6 N comes out).
Why can't both EV's have a good looking frony
6 wins
This old m3 looks ugly outside and cheap inside. 2024 m3 is wayyy better.
Hyundai is much better
The only downer with the Ioniq 6 is the cheap interior materials. Not sure why they used scratchy hard plastics everywhere given their pricing model.
I agree that Hyundai is much better.
Omg! IN NO WAY IS THE HYUNDAI BETTER! 1. It cost more without the tax credits. 2. The shit STEALERSHIPS are marking them up $5,000.00, 3. Class action lawsuit: Hyundai DOES NOT honor their warranty and this car overheats and stops charging, hence the lawsuit, 4. LACK OF CHARGING NETWORK, you will get stranded in this car because ONLY Tesla has a robust nation wide charging network. 5. OLD TECH, this car will NEVER self drive. What you going to do when self driving is all the rage in a few months!
This is just few examples how this car falls far short to Tesla. You would have to be dim to buy this vehicle over a Tesla!
Cost difference is like 40% after credits lol?
@@ShihanQu Yeah! A lot right! Hyundai is not even an American company!
Toaster Oven vs Can Opener
I love tesla model 3 not hyundai
Paid for by ... lol. Reviewer is lying about pricing. $36,700 before tax incentives for model 3 he tested (which can get additional 7500 off without doing a lease) while the ioniq has comparing is about 49000 after mandatory dealer addons... it's not even close
Slow boat from China.
Hmm... China?
Tesla Buyers Average
Tesla ...clean, uncluttered and not very user friendly.
You talk so much man, made me lose interest and compare the two online myself
It’s an 18 min video and you can skip around
You look like Kermit. 🐸
Hyundai is garbage, inside...I've purchased 6 of them...My Hybrid Sonata upholstery didn't last 80K, dash is cracked not just a little...Garbage absolute garbage...I'm ordering the Project Highland, just as soon as it's available...Oh yeah I drove the ionic 5 last year, not a chance...
and you bought 6 of them?
@@joec.5009My thoughts exactly....
Give me a "BIEGE" Corolla anyday over these Overhyped Gadgets

@@ckleinheksel Self driving is already a "thing". Just wait until Tesla opens their vehicles up for making money through a ride-sharing program which is on the books to happen in the next 6 months.
@@akennedystocksself driving with a tesla is a suicide mission...
It feels like something triggered you based on your all caps usage.
@@hannibalhector3719 Well, you would have to be missing a large chuck of a brain to even think the Ionic 5 or 6 is close to advanced as a Tesla. Even the original Model 3 released in 2017, five years old is better.
You're a goof. Nothing you said is accurate. 😂😂
