Automotive Engineer David Chao thinks so, and he therefore provides 7 reasons why he believes that the Hyundai IONIQ 6 is the best EV for the money. He starts off by checking for manufacturing quality, and then goes through each point one by one, explaining why this may be the greatest EV in the market.

    I was finally able to see the Ioniq 6 in person, and I have to say it looks somewhat strange to me in pictures, especially from the rear, but in person, I think its beautiful. Very stylish and dare a say sexy design. Well done Hyundai, I am seriously considering buying the RWD long range model. 361 miles of range under $50k, and a car that stands out from the sea of white Tesla Model 3s now flooding the streets.

    # 8: I am 6 feet 2 and I can swim around in the back seat, any seat. AWD limited and you can switch to ECO and the front motor is disconnected to add range. I'm only going to do that when I want to do RWD boot leg turns in the snow. Sport mode AWD 99% of the time since range anxiety does not exist in this vehicle.

      Don't like the huge drop off in range from AWD to RWD. These tesla competitors have to do better on their range for the AWD if they really want to compete with tesla. From 330 to 270 is a huge drop off.

    The same as Matthew, we were unsure until we saw this car in person. Now we have decided this is the car to buy. We now just have to decide between an SEL or a limited because headroom can be an issue. We have also decided , although we don't care for dark cars, the dark paint is the best looking option with this model..

    I got my car yesterday and my favourite feature on the ionic 6 is the driving automatic it stops behind cars and when the car moves on it starts to move and when you select Lane keeping it does all of it so you can virtually Drive this hands-free and the best place to do this is to rummage through your handbag while you're in traffic jam and put on some lipstick knowing the car will not smashed into anything it will just stop immediately when it see an object in near location I'm a female driver not very good with computers but so far I've learnt to put the car in automatic drive at the speed that I want it to without anyone telling me what to do it's quite easy to use the system I haven't had much time to sit down and try and work out how it's done but I've managed to do the features mentioned and I'm happy it's a lovely smooth ride it worth every penny worth buying even for ladies who think they can't drive big cars and I would say go for it❤ you truly will love it now I wish I got the red one

    Great in depth review. I bought an SEL RWD trim one month ago and I'm incredibly impressed with the comfort , features and range. I do wish they had some of the limited features in the SEL. Things like the folding mirrors, seat memory would be great in this trim, but I didn't want to pay the ~$5,500 price premium PLUS lose the $5,000 in bonus cash Hyundai was offering ($10,500 in total) just to get two features I liked and others I didn't care about (sunroof, auto parking, Bose stereo, etc.). Other than that, I'm very happy with the purchase.

    Hi David, would love for you to compare the "default best car" for many people, which is the Tesla Model 3. Could you do an unbiased review between the Ioniq 6 and the Tesla Model 3? For example, you mentioned the haptic/hard buttons vs. the singular screen. However, it's my understanding the Tesla Model 3 SR will get 250-275watts/mile and the Ioniq is closer to 300. Also, the Tesla handles quite well as well. So I feel like the audience needs to understand what's important to them and decide accordingly.
    I'll be honest.. I could care less about panel gaps as long as it's not outrageously bad but i'm not a Tesla fanboi either

While I’m not a fan of the design and always had a bias against Korean carmakers since I remember the debacle when Hyundai launched in the us; it is good to see that they have improve their quality and match or even exceed Japanese carmakers . Now we need to increase manufacturing to satisfy demand and get rid of dealer markups.

    I love Hyundai and Kia; their design really hits in accord with me, quality-wise if you look at the statistics when it comes to the number of cars needing assistance along the roads they have the lowest rate of roadside assistance of all cars down to 0.5 to 0.6 cars per hundred of cars on the road, whereas the luxury brands like Range Rover and others top out at nearly 4 per a hundred cars on the road needs the help of a tow or other mechanical breakdowns.
    That said I need to discuss the serious gripe I have with Kia and Hyundai EV; they use LG Chem batteries!
    Of all the cars using LG Chem battery packs, they have the worst statistics of all. On average only around 1% of all EVs need to have the battery changed on warranty, but for those who use LG battery technology, they are up around 25% (Kia/Hyundai/Jaguar) and even 33% like the Chevy Bolt EV!
    That is just too high a risk!

    Hi David,
    This video was outstanding, you truly can find the best in anything… It’s a beautiful looking vehicle with a nice fit and finish… Wonderfully priced I don’t know about the reliability and dependability that’s going to take time, but I do like the fact that it charges quick and has a long distance I also too I’m going to put this at the top of my list for electric cars even though I’m not gonna buy electric probably until the late 30s early 40s. I love my V8 Lexus powered engines and hopefully I can drive them with no problems through the 20s and 30s at least But this vehicle I love the color of the paint the quality I pretty go by everything you recommend and all the way around it’s a nice looking vehicle what I’m most concerned about is the reliability and dependability, which again will take time but the quality control and everything you pointed out is definitely Lexus level. The only thing I will say in my opinion, I think Lexus beats out any vehicle in the world when it comes to reliability and dependability if Hyundai can meet that, Lexus is going to have some competition at hand… Again DAVID you never cease to amaze me or any of your subscribers. You’re creeping up on 100,000 subscribers and there’s gonna be hundreds of thousands more to come. You have a strong law of attraction because of your talent coupled with the fact that you’re a wonderful person if it was up to me, I’d give you a lifetime achievement award in the automobile industry no joke thank you I million for having the passion to do what you do…

    I am sorry, but I will still go with a Tesla model Y vehicle. The prices seem to be similar and with Tesla I don't need to go through the greedy dealerships and their buying process.
    I am also waiting for the GM 2024 Ensoniq EV to come out and what their model pricings will be. The Ensoniq EV will have similar features as the IONIQ 6 and it is a SUV type model.
    Yes the Tesla has fewer buttons, but it is the features and battery package that more interest myself. I also prefer AWD for my vehicle since I live in a wintertime State.
    Plus I want a hatchback or SUV type vehicle, not a Sedan.
    Also prefer a US built car rather than a Japanese built one. Did a search for pricings here in the US on the IONIQ 6 EV and allot of them are around 52,000 or more at dealerships.
    But thanks for the review. Take care.

    All that with the best warranty in the auto industry. Hyundai is at the top with warranty and customer service in my opinion I rank them # 1.

    I like this much more than a Tesla. I want a screen in front of the driver with critical information and buttons for the most frequently used features so I don’t have to go rooting through menus to find what I want.

    I love your videos but mechanical portion is very important. BEVs most difficult part is the heating cooling system that keeps battery temperatures constant. it appears that hyandai group still has a very complex and somewhat ineffective system when compared with Tesla.

    David, I have to admit, the design of this vehicle is really nice looking. I would have liked to have seen the way the trunk looked though.

    • @JohnPMiller
      @JohnPMiller ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've seen other videos that show the trunk is pretty big. There's even a frunk, but it's tiny. EDIT: Apparently, the trunk is also small.

    • @outbackigloo6489
      @outbackigloo6489 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@JohnPMiller - The trunk is actually pretty small at 11 cubic feet. Should be large enough for groceries or a suitcase or two, but storage will not be the Ioniq 6’s strong suit.

  • @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403

    This car looks like a winner. About the only thing I don't like about it design wise is the rear. The back looks smashed down, for lack of a better phrase and there are those weird vertical lines in the back. They look weird and should be removed.
    Obviously, Tesla has the advantage of the super charger network. It's great that you can charge it to 80% in as quick as 18 minutes...if you could actually find a charger that does that. I've seen so many videos and the few 350 kW chargers out there from Electrify America and EVGo are always, ALWAYS broken.
    And as you mentioned, Tesla still qualifies for the $7,500 rebate in the US, which is gives Tesla another huge advantage. I'd have no problem with the Hyundai. I wish they made the Ioniq 5 in the same style. Kind of like the Model Y. I don't like the look of the Ioniq 5 at all.

    I would get the Tesla Model 3. The rebates really helps it and they lower the price too. The Tesla ecosystem and the supercharger system is better.

  • @DonkeyRhubarb21

    I had reserved this car to buy on launch. Wife got an EV, so I cancelled, but still intend to buy. This car, here in Korea, has plummeted in value. I can find models less than one year old for minus 30% of their original price. My guess it's due to popularity; most people want an SUV here. Good for me though now as I still want it, but I worry about the long term market for this car.

    The one really big reason to buy this car is its fantastic range. But you can only get it at the lowest trim!!! That's ding number 1 in its 200 micron hood paint job. Then the trunk space is virtually non-existent. How can you go on long distance trips or pick people up at the airport if you can't fit your luggage? Ding number 2 on its rear door panel. You're head is going to hit the roof in the back seat if you're any taller than a worker at Wonka Chocolates. Ding number 3 on its folding mirror. By now, the functionality and equivalent range in an Ioniq 5 are starting to look a lot more enticing. There's a reason why these are selling cheaper than Ioniq 5's in the U.S. now. They don't have to fix all the defects, but, come on man, at least let us get 18" wheels on the nicer trims!

  • @InvestBetter.
    @InvestBetter. ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just test drove it.
    Black, one motor, 20" wheels. It was around $50k, but they wouldn't go below $10k over sticker
    Looks AMAZING in person, and quite a bit taller then you'd think. Has acres of SWAG
    The ergonomics are quite poor, and the steering wheel is rock hard, a pet peeve of mine

      That's 50k before the 10k markup. There's no way I pick this over my model 3 LR. The model 3 is faster, has a sportier feel, and the Tesla charging network is unbeatable.
