    I kept waitin' fer Cruiseman to say Remove the 6' cylinder engine from its frame next ' -this is an excellent instructional video that will keep any intelligent person from installing an XM antenna or should I say disassembling a Gold Wing

    Wow, what a process! Thanks for all your videos. I have the "approval" from my wife to buy a new Goldwing and I've decided to make the purchase for my birthday in April. Thanks to you, I've decided to purchase the new DCT after debating with myself over which model to select. Now after watching your videos, I'm hoping to purchase a model with several options already installed - hopefully XM Radio is one of them.

    It looks pretty easy to do the install now that you have shown hows it is done. Thank you for taking the time to show us how to do it. Very nice video

    For a 30K motorcycle, Honda should have had it installed already from the factory, Triumph does it.

      Learned one thing from the video , my bike is not getting xm radio .

    Bought the XM antenna on ebay for $16. Removed the seat and mouted next to radio, plugged in. Done in 15 minutes and works perfectly.

    I saw the instructions and decided to have my dealer install this. The upper and lower air guards I was able to install myself. SiriusXM knows or recognizes your radio ID and you will get the 3 months of free service awarded to Honda vehicles.

    Great video as always, Chris. I'm SO glad this was pre-installed and considered "standard" equipment on both my 2012 and 2015 Gold Wings. It's disappointing that on the 2018 (and beyond?) it's an optional item that, in true Honda fashion, is so incredibly difficult to install (half the bike requires disassembly).

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is amazing. Wait until you see the HomeLink install!

    • @forrestappleton5517
      @forrestappleton5517 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I trust you left your Wing disassembled to install the HomeLink. However, I will say that removing the windscreen on the 2018 model appears significantly easier than previous models. I used your video exclusively when I replaced the stock windscreen on my 2015 Wing for an F4 Customs +4. Thank you, my friend!

      I did four installs while I had the bike apart. Next video will be HomeLink, then USB Cable, then LED Entry Lights.

    • @forrestappleton5517
      @forrestappleton5517 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I figured you would produce multiple installations while having the Wing disassembled. I'll be watching!

      HomeLink was twice as time consuming as XM. A REAL pain-in-the-butt.

    I just spent 6 hours installing my Antenna. It was the first time I stripped my Wing down and if not for Cruiseman's awesome video, it would have taken a week trying to read Honda's PDF instruction sheet. THANKS Cruiseman You ROCK. It is Absurd that Honda couldn't have at least factory installed a coax cable. Also they could have made a pocket at the top of the backrest instead of this insane running of a cable all the way to the windshield. Worst of all the $99 price is a crime. OK my venting is done. I LOVE Sirius and the sound is so much better than Honda's weak FM antenna. Unfortunately it seems to drop out fairly easily going under overpasses and in hilly areas, but it typically comes back within a few seconds.

      Buyer beware: I already had a Sirius subscription but they want to charge me more because I now have two receivers. I will use only one at a time. When my three month trial period is up, I will threaten to cancel my subscription all together and I hope that they will "play ball" in order to not lose a customer. I have heard you can talk them down to $5 a month, so keeping my $10 subscription is a reasonable request

      I thought about getting this and doing the install because I have xm on both of my vehicles. But I've instead been using the XM app from my iPhone through apple car play. Same audio quality without the hassle of this install.

    Does every 2018 Goldwing have XM built in? I just bought left over 2018 base model, no trunk. It was a great deal, $8k below MSRP.. When using the source button there is one screen that says Aux. Is that for XM? I bought a XM antenna from Amazon that I haven't installed yet, If I understand correctly one I plug the antenna in XM will auto show up on the Aux. screen? Thanks Cruiseman, love your video's!!

  • @richerich853
    @richerich853 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    My question is though if I didn't want to go through all that why couldn't I just mount it inside the trunk? How's it getting signal upfront buried under all the plastic anyway?

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can absolutely do that. You can buy ANY XM antenna on eBay or Amazon for $15 and it will plug right in. Mount it wherever you like, even on top of the brake reservoir.

      I was thinking the same thing. I traded my 2014 HD for this exact bike. Love it! On the HD, I removed the antenna from under the cowl where HD mechanics put it, and put it just outside. Lots better reception. I will do something similar with this in the rear area. :)

    Hey Cruiseman, when you use your xm radio does it cut in/out? My 2021 Goldwing tour DCT came with XM radio and after purchasing a subscription my xm radio says "check tuner", but then stations come in for the most part but it's very spotty and not that reliable. I'm real close to cancelling my subscription and just sticking with USB thumb drives with MP3's!

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not experience that issue, but no longer subscribe

    Glad this is part of the XM package on the 2017. If I had to go through all this to activate the existing XM radio on the bike I’d probably just go without XM. This is so involved and this stuff almost never goes back together as tightly as it was from the initial assembly at the factory. Honda really disappointing with things like this. Great video though Chris, disappointed I won’t be seeing you working on the older model anymore.

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly, I found more than a few loose fasteners when I disassembled the bike. I think my bike went back together better than from the factory! You can add any XM antenna and simply mount in the trunk or on top of the brake reservoir.

      Cruiseman's Garage that’s true! I like to do as much of the work as I can to my bikes and I’ve found things that weren’t perfect from the factory or the initial setup by the dealers. Whenever possible I do the work myself and I won’t have to question the work of others.

    Pretty involved. I sat on a new tour today, noticeably smaller than a 2017. I also sat on a standard GW in that root-beer color, I noticed a slight amount of back and forth play in the steering?

    • @cruisemansgarage

      Best color of all the new Wings, IMO.

    • @gnrands50
      @gnrands50 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree about that color, although the Honda name for it: "pearl stallion brown" is a bit unfortunate (it sounds like something I wouldn't want to step in). Too bad the Tour doesn't come in that color (yet . . .). I went for the red GL1800DA, for very technical reasons: My wife said, "I like the red one." BTW this is an outstanding video, Cruiseman, much more detailed than Honda's instructions. Thank You.

    • @Bass.Player
      @Bass.Player 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That red would be my second choice...

    It is crazy to have a radio but not the antenna installed by Honda and in order to do it a rider shouldn't be disassemble the half of the bike. Every BMW bike I owned came with a radio had the XM antenna discreetly installed and worked perfectly ok. This is absurd!

    I'd use the Teslong Upgraded Semi-Rigid Inspection Camera to video these hard to see places on the Goldwing. Removing the middle cowl didn't sound as loud as that bird singing in your garage. :-D

    For what the new Goldwing cost, Honda should have just included the XM antenna. Looks like they are learning from Harley to charge extra for everything. Guess I can't blame them.
