    I accidentally discovered this procedure that I didn't know and I just did it! the bike has changed significantly now it is smoother, less noisy and above all more punctual in gear changes. fantastic! Thanks very much

    My local Honda Dealer says to NOT do it...The only time it should be done is if the DCT controller is replaced or Clutch plates are replaced...Never do it otherwise . The repair Manual also says the same thing..Doing it can cause serious DCT/Computer issues.

      @@obwan7217 this is incorrect. If this were true it wouldn’t be an option for owners moreover, the Honda tech would do it.

    Awesome! I’ll try that today since we finally has a 50+ day. I’m hoping it will cure some minor irregularities. 👍🤞

    Thank you Mr. Cruiseman, I just bought a 2023 last week, shifting seemed kinda harsh, I've put down 500 miles since last Saturday, came across your video about the clutch initialization, now she shifts so smooth I can't feel it, awesome vid and tutorial 👍

    I wish I had the money to buy one and a place to put it! Both cost a lot of money! Maybe one day! I hope Honda don't quit making them. You do a wonderful job on all of your videos. You are very thorough, speak very clearly, and have expert knowledge of these bikes. I Love watching your videos. You are truly a Professional!! It sounds like you previously worked for Honda!

    I did this procedure as I was told on one of the Gold Wing forums that doing it may get rid of some of the drive line lash. My '18 seemed to have quite a bit of slack in the drive line, to the point where it was starting to become a nuisance. The process seemed to go fine, and I took it out for a short ride afterwards, it shifts fine, but my ride was probably too short to be able to tell if it tightened up the drive line at all. I plan on taking a longer ride this evening after it cools off a bit....BTW, thanks for posting this procedure, made it very easy!

    Well done. I have a 2020 and just this morning I noticed that the riding mode indicator was flashing. I'll try this to see if it fixes it. I've also noticed that while slowing down there is a wierd double-clicking sound when the DCT downshifts from 3rd to 2nd.

    I have done this several times and still have problems with the transmission shifting every couple of months, I call it "Quirks." What I have found is that this procedure was only intended to be used after replacing the TCM (Transmission Control Module) or the Clutch Assembly so they work together. It was not designed as a maintenance procedure. If it was, that would tell us that Honda knew the transmission wouldn't continue to work correctly without doing this initialization process every so often to keep it working correctly and we would be instructed to do this when we do certain maintenance on the bike. I admit the transmission has "Quirks", and mine acts up occasionally, but after a few miles it goes away and starts shifting normally again. The bike runs fine until the next time these "Quirks" appear, and as I ride they go away. Doing this initialization process has not given me confidence that it worked and fixed the problem. The bike runs normal most of the time until these "Quirks" appear again. I haven't done it in over a year, and the problems come and go, so that tells me doing this in the past has not helped. It still acts up. Here is a question for those who ride a DCT. How could the computer forget to shift, where by doing this procedure it re-learns (re-programs) the computer? It makes no sense!

    • @brandonfriesen9228
      @brandonfriesen9228 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It actually makes perfect sense because the friction coefficient of oil changes as it brakes down and becomes contaminated. Also different oils have different additive packages and since the clutches are friction devices it makes sense that a relearn or recalibration would help to fine tune the shift points.

    Hi Cruiseman, Uk here. Got a 2024 model & this does not work? Holding in D ignition on the engine light comes on for a split second then goes out. DDNDN does not do anything after. Any thoughts, much appreciated. SCRAP THAT YOU THEN TO START THE ENGINE!! THEN GOES THROUGHT THE PROCEDURE! THANKS

    What does it mean if it only flashes the little oval once, then goes to N Tour?

  • @charliewhittaker3057

    I did this because my new Goldwing was shifting erratically at low speed, becoming jerky, which was a bit disconcerting approaching busy junctions. I’ll let you know if it fixed it in the next day or two. Helpful video as always.
    Ok, I think it has helped, but I still got a couple of jerks, particularly in Tour mode. Any advice gratefully received. I wonder if the fly by wire throttle is very sensitive to tiny inputs? It seems that if I brake against slightly raised throttle it may do it less? Cruiserman advice needed!😁

    Hey buddy,I have a 21 dct tour that about 1 out of 4 or 5 start ups,the idle stars surging up and down.sometimes when I go to take off it will stall.most times I shut it off and restart it will go away.sometimes it's still happening. Have you seen or heard about anyone else with same issues. Thanks for all you do for the goldwing.

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The variation in idle is not uncommon. Also, on the new Goldwings, you need to make sure to let the engine warm up for at least 60-90 seconds before taking off or the engine might stall.

  • @stephensmith60

    I never knew this. Every once in a while my transmission hangs on a bit longer before it finally decides to shift. I thought this was because of the training the transmission goes through when learning our driving pattern. But - you're saying that it might need to be "re-initialized"?

    Hello Cruiseman!
    I just finished watching and performing the initialization process on my 2018 GL1800 DCT, but I did not get the results specified in your video; instead of the flashing bar next to the D, I got a white N and 5white dashes, let it run for about five minutes, still no N Tour. What do you think I did incorrectly?
    Regards,
    Loyal.

      I had the same issue with my 2023 gold wing tour. The problem I found out was that I was trying to do it while the bike was on side stand. However, you need to do it just like in the video…on the center stand with parking brake engaged. Worked like a charm once I did this.

    After doing this after a couple cold days the bike wouldn’t start and cursors blinking. Finally got bike to start but check engine light on. Took bike to dealership for service to see what is going on. They initially think it might be battery Do you have any ideas? Will it drain battery to do this or need more power to start bike when trying to get the transmission initialization to happen?

    Hi I've been having issues with my DCT shifting and tried the initialization on it. It continues to fail each time I try it(giving me the "-" flash every .5 seconds) now I cannot get it out of initialization. The service manual just says to keep re-trying and has no further troubleshooting suggestions. I took it to a Honda dealer and they could not figure out what was wrong. Any suggestions?
