I was told by an employee after a crazy effort to cancel, do NOT say you want to talk to someone to cancel....talk to someone who isn't in the Cancel Dept in order to cancel. Turned out fast and easy. Extremely frustrating. Their cancel dept is like talking to the Mob.

Here’s a tip. Take their return envelope and stuff it with useless paper. They have to pay the return by weight. So they may have to pay $1 or more for that envelope. Do that a few times and then the bean counters say stop sending to that address. I did this with Capital One. I have not gotten anything from them since.

I’ve had the exact same experience and I stayed on the phone until they cancelled it. I’ve purchased a couple Ford trucks over the last few years and both cane with 6 months of free Sirius. The good thing about the trucks was they didn’t have my credit card number so they couldn’t charge me. Yes, they flooded my mailbox with offers for a couple months, but that eventually stopped. Yes, it’s a SCAM. I’d pay $5 bucks a month forever too, but I don’t like being jacked around.

SiriusXM is now letting you cancel via chat - at least it's somewhat easier than waiting to talk to a person - they'll still pressure you to keep subscribing but just go make a sandwich or watch a couple videos in between interactions (the waiting game goes both ways)... And while people have mixed results with the 3 month trial if you have the radio account with your actual information (address, email, etc.) canceling for about a month or a bit longer "resets" that and you can time your 3 month trial about the time you'll be using it (for a long bike trip, etc.)

I had Sirius XM on my 2018 Goldwing, and on my 2014 Ford Escape. I received a bill for the full amount on my Escape this month, called Sirius to cancel, which I was able to do. However, I also have it suspended on my motorcycle because of the cold weather in South Dakota during the winter. They have suspended the service until April of this year (a 6 month suspension). I asked if I could delay the service one more month if it is still cold, and I was told yes, just let them know a few days before it is set to resume and they will suspend it for another month. I enjoy Sirius XM when riding, and also use the weather feature from Sirius XM.

You have expressed what we all feel with Sirius. They do the dance and make you go through the “car salesman” process. The thing is I like many of the stations and I travel into rural areas where reception is lousy so having satellite radio is nice - for $5 a month, not $22+. Last time I did this I got it for a year and did a one time payment of $5 a month for 12 months, plus fees and taxes (now that’s another scam). I also put an appointment on my calendar for the day before it expires so I can “cancel” it. Though you think its a waste of time, but what I guess happens is many people don’t pay attention to when the price goes up and they get a lot of revenue from this “game”, which is why they don’t stop. I don’t like any subscription services with automatic renewal because they all jack up the prices, whether its a magazine or software its a con game where they hope you just let the higher price slip. It’s even worse with the software. It used to be you could buy it once and you were good - now they force an annual subscription. Ugh!! One question - I assume now that the Sirius antenna is standard on the Goldwing that they will give you the 6-12 months for free like in the cars, otherwise why would Honda now put it in. Is that your understanding or did they always give a “free” subscription and you just had to buy the antenna?

I agree with you. SiriusXM Makes it VERY difficult to cancel service. You are ONLY allowed to cancel on the EXACT date your contract ends or you will incur charges. I found it very difficult to cancel service on a leased car I no longer owned. I have been disconnected when calling SiriusXM.

    • @Scotty_in_Ohio
      @Scotty_in_Ohio ปีที่แล้ว +1

If you're truly canceling they don't want to physically (write a check) the difference - if your account is still "active" they'll credit your account and then cancel. I've never had an issue canceling ahead of the renewal time but I've kept my account "active" so in some cases there's a credit - years ago I went a year without having service then when a trial ran out on a new car I went and logged in and used the credit as part of the new service. They (SiriusXM) is now letting you cancel via the chat service but depending on the day/time it might take a while to get a person (non-bot) to respond.

I was one of the lucky ones who purchased the Lifetime Everything subscription for around $400 about 15 years ago. So after 2 years it's free forever. Best investment ever (or so I thought). However, one day, mine suddenly stopped working seemingly for no reason. I called them and found out that they decided to turn mine off because i was still using an old radio that only had xm written on it. They said they wanted me to go buy another radio that has xm, and Sirius wrote on it because they had merged.
Well, I couldn't replace the radio at the time because I didn't own the company truck, and they refused to transfer my subscription to my phone. Then, about 4 years passed by. Now I have my own truck, and I was about to transfer my XM lifetime subscription, but then I found out that there was a class action lawsuit that they never told me about. Amazing how they sent me advertising about XM all the time but sent nothing about the lawsuit or how it affected me. The deadline to sign up was 2 years ago. So they robbed me of my lifetime subscription. WOW!

I joined Sirius in 2006, it was about $5 a month. I had it in my truck and could listen to it online. By 2010 the price raised to $15 a month and had to pay additional for online listening. I was in the hospital and I let the person know I was in the hospital with a breathing problem and I could only talk for a moment. The butt hole continued to try to convince me for maybe 20 minutes to keep the freaking service.
Also, when I decided I might give them another chance because they had a really good deal. I was signing up and then on the last page instead of giving me the deal that they were supposed to they were trying to charge me for the deal plus the regular price so it was going to end up being like $29 when the deal was supposed to be five dollars a month for six months

I agree with you that anytime you have to call to cancel something, it's probably some type of scam. I dreaded making the call but it needed to be done. The Customer Service rep I talked to within just a few minutes was extremely helpful and efficient. He did try to talk me into renewing my subscription at a lower price but I told him I was not interested and wanted to cancel. He said he was sorry to see me go and told me they would welcome me back if I wanted to renew my subscription in the future. I guess I caught the guy after he had his morning coffee. Lamar - I've found the same - if you're decent and can chat up the representative a little (make small talk, etc.) they tend to be a lot more helpful - and the chances that you may come back in the future is a lot better. I try to be a bit humorous too - I always say when asked about the price of the service - "well heck if you're going to pay ME $5/month and taxes and fees how can I say no?!" and when they come back with "no, that's what you would pay US..." I always reply with "that's more than my wife will let me spend..."

I have XM on a number of devices and its ok. My biggest pet peeves with XM are the fact that you cant cancel online, and tbeir song repetition. They seem to use such a limited library of music. Sometimes a station will actually play a good block of music. And then it goes back to the same songs. Still, i like streaming it from my phone at work. Uses less data than i thought. I can stream it for my whole shift.

You can tell them you will pay by check. They will turn the service on right then and mail you a paper bill. Also, if you tell them over the phone that they do NOT have your permission to keep your card number on file, they can't. They will bill over the phone the one time and not store the card in the system. They can't legally keep your card info and can NOT bill your card automatically. They will mail you a paper renewal bill when your subscription is up. It will be at full price on the bill, but you can call and negotiate it down, if you want to renew it. I've done it that way since 2014.

It's been a couple of months and Sirius is already trying to lock me in for renewals. They are offering me 3 additional free months if I agree to auto renewal and give them my cc number. We buy subscriptions that way for our family at Christmas time - they can go on-line before they plan to travel (camper) sign up, use the balance on the gift card, and then when they return they can cancel that subscription - this works for 3 month trials too but depending on the year they sometimes require a CC sometimes they don't - it's probably based on how well they are doing as a company....

I got frustrated with Sirius last year for the same reason, calling was a nightmare. I decided to try their chat service, was faster, and got it at the good intro price. If the companies have a chat service, that’s how I do business now. Plus, you can print your chat session just in case there’s an issue.

I just used their chat service and it was great! I just bought a new car and in the middle of a trial service with Sirius. They sent a reminder my trial is about to end and sent an offer for $5/month for 12 months afterward will go to the regular price. I didn’t commit but gathering info. I’ll probably do it as I really like the service. I will be using the chat to negotiate down to $5 again or just canceling if they don’t go for it. It’s worth it for $5, definitely not worth it for $20.
Btw, I read someone stuffs annoying correspondence offers with blank paper to jack up the postage on the receiving end. Hilarious! I’ll remember this in the future.

@@seanmccomas7880 It was a such a hassle before the chat service, I would wait on hold for so long that I'd give up and call some other time. I'm guessing they had to implement the chat to hold onto customers. Before, I would get so frustrated that I would cancel just on principle.

We had the same experience on our cars that had Sirius/XM many years ago. Once the special expired, they would charge full price without notification, so we would have to set a calendar reminder to call them a few weeks before the subscription expired. Like you, we had to go through the same hassle of negotiating it down to $5 per month.

I bought the Lifetime subscription when I bought a used car in 2009, it was canceled when I sold the car in 2012, it just got restored due to a class action suit!!! 😀 So now I’ve got it for my Lifetime! They always alerted me by email, and I always got the $5 or $99 better deal but they never argued with me about canceling, just lucky 🍀 I guess. I agree with you about canceling online.👍👍. And they should have a flat $99.00 a year, they’ve got so many commercials on most channels! 🦄

When I cancelled DirecTV after cutting cable TV I got the same crap. When I cancelled my XM subscription a couple of weeks ago I went through that crap all over again. Not only was I forced to talk to a hard pressure salesman it was obvious that call was routed to a call center in India. I'm from the south east US which means I can't understand anyone with a heavy Indian accent and they can't understand me. They switched me to a different person that didn't have an accent and understand that problem. Anyway I had to go through all the high pressure salesmanship to keep me paying, which I was never going to do. The debit card I was using to pay for the service ran out and so I didn't renew it so after a few minutes I was able to stop his sales pitch and told him my card was cancelled and payment for the service with it as well. That's when he gave up and let me go and cancelled the service.

I only got the trial subscription on a couple used trucks because the dealers reactivated the XM radio. Took forever to get XM to stop calling me or mailing me things asking if I wanted to activate after the trial period. Like you, it took almost a half-hour to understand "NO." XM is not very reliable in some portions of Massachusetts, and for the most part, my commute is only 20 minutes. Not a practical expense in my mind.

Sirius XM is great for short trips. It starts playing immediately like an FM station. Whereas using my phone, it takes time to connect to Bluetooth. If I don't have Bluetooth turned on then I have to stop, dig out the phone, turn it on, and hope it connects without going into the phone settings to force it to connect. Sometimes I could have already been to my destination by the time I get the desired sound out of the speakers. SXM is also great when out of phone service range. It works everywhere (except tunnels). The most dislike I have about SXM is the music sound quality. It's absolutely horrible. Well the Goldwing sound system isn't much to brag about, so I guess it really doesn't matter about the source quality. Gonna sound bad no matter what. However, SXM is good for talk and news. Not going to jam out on those stations, so clarity doesn't matter. I have been through the pain of cancelling like you. Gotta do it every year. But I keep it for the instant play as mentioned at the beginning of this comment. If price goes up again I'm quitting for good.

I paid I think $480 around 20 years ago for a "lifetime" subscription. The catch was you can only transfer that sub to a different device 2 or 3 times and I already did it once. Can't remember the exact details. I had it on a car stereo deck that I had originally bought it for. Then the deck broke and I transferred it to a portable unit which I can plug into my car deck or my home audio receiver. Now, if I get a wing and transfer it to that, I might be done with my transfers. I could always plug the portable one into the wing, but it won't look good. Got my moneys worth easily from them , but they do repeat music a lot.

I was shocked😱... They did, and extended the rate of $5.99 to a second receiver as requested. I have heard of only one person that is receiving a life time subscription. Its a game of attrition. At least I only have to play this game every two years now.

HA! Your issue with saying "Sirius/XM" and having Siri answer you reminds me of when I had voice recognition turned on, on my Action Camera. I'd be talking to the Action Camera, recording my VLog and the camera would hear a word like "Stop" and it would stop recording! I finally had to turn off voice recognition.
Back to XM Radio. Yup, I joined when it first started out and as a Canadian, I had to "pretend" to be in the U.S. which I did. Then I "converted" to the Canadian version after awhile, then it became Sirius/XM. And I have the same issues you do.
I experienced the same issue, I have a radio in 2 cars and each year they want something like C$400 for the 2 cars. But, being retired, I don't use the car very often and my wife, also retired doesn't use hers very often either so neither radio gets very much use. And, like you, I get it for about half price which is still way too much but far easier than cancelling. I'll likely cancel at some point.
When I got XM Radio, there wasn't anything like Spotify which I now use and I find far more useful than XM Radio.
Yup, for $5 a month I'd never make a phone call and would keep it forever.
Personally I think Sirius/XM, being preloaded in car radios is going to be a thing of the past at some point.
On another note, there are a number of areas where service is intermittent. I live in Calgary so am often in the Mountains and there are areas where the road is too close to the mountains and service is lost. I do not have this issue when I pre-dowload a few hours of Spotify. Plus, when I go backpacking, I can take a phone and use Spotify (heck, I have a few hours of music downloaded onto my Garmin watch), can't use XM as there isn't any reception.
Ooooooo, "Wrap it up", hmmmmm, well, just one more thing. While I too only listen to a few stations on XM and my preference on a long trip is to find a local station and listen to local content for an hour or so till the AM radio fades and I get to the next area - MUCH more interesting to me.

So I bought my '19 Wing in Feb of 2020. I received a phone call about 3 mos. after I had the bike. It seems that they had given me 3 mos. free when I purchased it and the dealership neglected to tell me that!
She asked if I wanted to continue the service. I said for my Honda Odyssey? She said, no my Goldwing! After about a 10 min. dance, because I had no idea the Goldwing had the service on it because it didnt have the "antenna", (something Honda should have included like on the 2021) I told them I had no idea that I had had the service, and said HELL NO!
I haven't heard from them since.
In relation to the Siri on your phone you said you "hate technology"!
Isn't canceling, subscribing to something and/or your VLOGS part of that technology?
I personally like speaking to someone, as long as they don't have all of that "Technology" to screw things up!
Face it Cruiseman, you couldn't survive without that technology!

Sounds like my dad’s issues with cable. He dose that phone dance every month. I got scammed by FYE a old fashioned music store that’s irrelevant and no one uses, just like radio services. They claimed they were signing me up for deals to my email, asked me for my address thought they were gonna send me coupons and discounts. They sent me nothing in the mail forgot about it all. low and behold they signed me up for some kind of fye premium and CHARGED ME $12 on the card I used to pay for a $10 Christmas present. It went on for a whole year. My face was fire red after I realized! And they wouldn’t let me cancel! I had to call and got nowhere I talked to my bank and they just canceled my card since fye did nothing. These old companies are scam artists. I think they prey on older generations and it’s sick. They would have serious loyal customers if they didn’t scam.

  • @GreenGJ

    Here's more...
If you threaten to quit, they will get it down to $5.00 per month, but it's limited in length, about 6 months then renewal; next time I'm going for a year. When you negotiate with them, demand $5.00 per month which includes the sales taxes; think $30.00 for 6m months. However, they have "plus fees", so much for the first radio, then something less for all the others on the same account. Priotr to calling, go to their site and locate the fee schedule, then make sure you get them to quote the fee to you so you can point out that the fee they quote it incorrect. This is more of the scams they pull.
The last thing is tell them to invoice you so you can pay by check, after which they will attempt to charge you $2.00. Say you're walking if they do charge you. Never, NEVER give them yoour credit card. I've told them flat out that I think they are unethical which is why I want an invoice.
I have four vehicles with XM, so it costs me $120.00 plus 7% tax every six months. Like Cruiseman, I do not get the value from the service because I'm not driving all four vehicles at the same time, but I do listen to about dozen channels, so it's worth it for me.

I asked for their names and employee numbers at the start and when they started complicating things I reminded them the call was being recorded and I did not like the transaction experience and they weren't doing there best to get me what I wanted.
It's an ugly experience. This month I called up and canceled it before the end of the 12 months and asked to credit me for the balance.

It's what they call "Automatic Renewal". When your current subscription expires, they automatically renew your service at what they call "The current Rate". I call up about a month before it expires and request them to remove the automatic renewal and then they won't charge my credit card when the subscription expires. When I went to cancel my XM I told them I was not working as much due to the Corona Virus. Of course the guy was from India, so I had to explain, "I have no money". Norton (Symantec) anti virus does that also. I buy it online for $49.99, but when it renews, they charge $104.99. I call them and tell them either cancel it or charge me $49.99, and they issue me a credit. It is a silly game they play and everyone hates it, but they are wanting you to not notice the charge on the credit card and pay the higher price. They don't care how much you pay.
