Hi Cruiseman I followed your information to the letter, many times, and it still didn’t work. I had a few people try and it still wouldn’t work. When I had my first service I told the Honda staff, they immediately said that I needed a genuine Apple cable, as soon as I used a genuine Apple cable it worked. Great work Cruiseman I think I’ve watched every one of your videos here in England. Tony
Bought the apple cable still doesn’t connect due to disconnect headset but the headset icon with a 1 shows connected I’m frustrated to no end $30k should work without any issues.
I just bought a used 2019 Goldwing, my first. I am coming from a Harley Roadglide. I cannot thank you enough for your hard work in creating these fantastic videos. I have been in film and video production for 30 years and I am impressed! And to echo Jason Grant's comment, it would be an honor to ride with you. I could make a documentary! Of how great you are.
Hello, I just purchased a new 2022 Goldwing B (non tour) a few days ago. I have been struggling with getting my Sena 50S to work. For the life of me, I could not get audio through the Sena and could not see the Apple Car Play option. I watched several videos etc. and still no success. Then I found this video of yours. A game changer and life saver! Thank you so much for continuing to post and provide honest accurate information. 🇨🇦
Thanks, it's always been hit and miss for me. Finally figured out that I could not connect my iPhone to the Cardo headset as well as to the bike. But never knew about the Siri tip you shared.
I’ve been using CarPlay on my 18 wing since I got the bike. Both my wife’s car and mine have CarPlay. I never have issues with it, google maps, waze, music and phone calls all through the bike. No need for external navigation. Hold down the speak button and say navigation, call, music. Very nice.
Thanks to Cruiseman, 1st day on new to me ‘18 DCT, using both of his videos on how to connect Sena to Goldwing and how to connect Iphone to Apple play was easy, Thanks for posting!
we watched two other videos and this is the only video that should how to go into the settings and change from ipod to iPhone. finally got the apple carplay to work
Great video. I do have a question and that is using the intercom feature while using CarPlay tends to be a problem. We can initiate a conversation but then cannot get back to listening to music. Any ideas?
Great advice on the initial startup of Apple CarPlay! Maybe it was missed but after the initial setup and recurring use of CarPlay, when one gets to the step of plugging in the Iphone to the Wing's USB port it should always be unlocked, in other words the apps are showing on the screen. Otherwise it is a hit or miss situation booting CarPlay up.
Damn - I needed this exact video about 6 hours ago to connect my new Pack Talk Black. It was step 3 of the setup that got me. Once I figured that out, it worked. I don’t have unlimited data so won’t be using ACP. If I can get music and calls from the phone, as well as radio and GPS audio from the bike, I’ll be happy with that.
Thank you ! I would like to add a small tip. Please note, if you use any com other then the well known companies in the US such as all those strange name Chinese com from Aliexpress or Amazon, you will more likely have to re connect your com twice, 3 times or unplug your phone sometimes twice to get it going ! Those cheap com may work well and sound good, for some reason they do not agree with the GW very well. I had enough and I am buying a Sena.
Struggling to connect Cardo to Carplay? After much messing about with Cardo Edge, Iphone 15 and 2023 GL1800 DCT I seem to have found the sure way to connect. Bluetooth on phone - off Pair Cardo via Bluetooth to Rider bike. If bike says connected but there's no sound through the earpieces (most likely) Leave bike on. Power down Cardo. PowerUp Cardo. There should be static in the earpieces. Connect your phone to the cable. This procedure is working for me everytime
Thanks for the video, I watched to make sure, I got all of the steps correct. My issue is that during the ride at some point, CarPlay will start a GPS app, even though I am using the bikes navigation. CarPlay has just stopped altogether as well sometimes.
I tend to ride my bike without a helmet. So Carplay has been useless to me for awhile. But listening to your instructions I had an idea. I installed a charging USB outlet in the trunk. I put a cheap Bluetooth headset in the trunk, hooked up to the charger and turned on. Now when I start the bike the headset connects. I have a phone holder on the right handlebar with a iPhone cable fished into the center pocket. So after the bike runs for a bit, I plug it in to the cable. Almost every time Carplay starts. I then push the headset/speaker button on the center panel and now my carplay is playing over the speakers. I will eventually get a bluetooh helmet but it will probley be the same thing but I will be listening on 2 headset. I will figure that out when I get a new helmet.
Thanks a lot for the detailed step by step procedures I am just facing one thing. I am using the Cardo Edge Intercom. When I switch on the bike, then switch on the cardo. The Cardo paired for calls only but not for both (calls and music) Everything I have to reconnect the Bluetooth cardo with the bike for the bike to determine that headset connected successfully Is there a trick to avoid regular Bluetooth connection between the bike and the cardo ??
Great Video but now my Cardo intercom between myself and my wife doesn't work. Shouldn't I be able to continue to use Cardo intercoms. Any suggestions on what i might be doing wrong?
I've had my apple car play working on my 2023 goldwing for a year, today it wouldn't work, the goldwing had reverted back to Ipod! Thanks for the help!
Thanks a bunch! Your video was super helpful. I had my old phone dialed in since I 1st had my GW a couple of years ago…..I remember it was a pain in the $%^^ back then only and totally forgot what exactly I needed to do…….GREAT VIDEO! Super easy! Thankyou!
This was very helpful! I’ve had issues getting my 2018 Goldwing to initiate the Apple CarPlay consistently and now I know why. Thanks Cruiseman, you help more of us riders than you probably realize. Hope to ride with you some day. (Jason Grant, Knoxville, TN)
I found that removing the phone pairing to my headset basically cured the ills of connecting. I plug my iPhone into the bike, turn on my headset, start the bike and it works every time.
I don’t know that it is critical one way or another but, as a long time, now, anyway, user of Apple CarPlay, I always turn on my CARDO PackTalk Bold first and let it go through it’s start up routine, then turn on the Gold Wing and let it go through it’s start up routine and then Finally, plug my iPhone into the USB in my case in the trunk. If I stop for a quick gas stop rather than turning the bike totally off requiring having to unplug the iPhone and plug it it back in again to get CarPlay back, I just turn the Gild Wing ignition knob to Accessory. Then fill the gas and when ready to go just push the red start button and CarPlay will typically start up again. I also have a toggle switch in the trunk in USB line that I can toggle off and on rather that unplugging and replugging in the iPhone.
Hey, whatever works for you! I have had CarPlay reconnect a couple of times after stopping the bike (gas stop), leaving my Cardo headset on and phone plugged in. After re-starting the bike, it came back up. But, it is intermittent. Sometimes, I have to unplug my phone and plug it back in.
Cruiseman thanks. I use my cardo packtalk bold with car play all good except answering calls. Do you now if there's a secret on holding down the phone button for a certain length of time. It's always hit and miss on incoming calls.
I see that the rider hs is connected but the toggle button won’t go to it until I go through the whole process to reconnect the headset. Is there a way to avoid having to do this?
Hi, have You some info's about problems with the display solution by Apple CarPlay after the last update iPhone 15.1 ??? It works in my car, but not on my GWing 2021....???
Sir…I have a 2022 and Every time I hook this up in this manor…My CarPlay is unreadable on the screen (like really garbled) I have tried two different cables…any advice?
Hi, First thanks for the great video. Very useful. Question: even though I selected “alway enable”, it seems that it doesn’t remember this selection, and i have to approve the connection every time. Do you know how to solve this issue? Thanks.
Hey CM! Absolutely LOVE my new wing(“Texas Tea” since its a Black Gold...wing) I have Carplay working pretty well EXCEPT: I cant get the passenger headset to play music. My headset works and we have working intercom but hers wont play the music playing in my headset..... a little help?
@@cruisemansgarage Yes. The headset with a “2” displays on the screen when her’s enrolls. When that happens and I already hear music I assume that she should too or am I missing a step?
I have used a cardo headset and connected my apple phone via an apple cable on my 2019 GW Tour for the 5th riding season now ( over various versions of Iphone, currently an Iphone 15). I have always been able to make all aspects work fine - but on restart of the bike, while everyone is ready to leave, I am busy unplugging and re-plugging my Iphone, with the message that the headset is not connected ( however it is and the icon is present ), until it (usually) decides things are ok and carplay pops up. Occasionally I have to restart my cardo headset, and once in a blue moon it actually works without intervening when I start the bike -> Honda says "this is normal" and that is about as far as I have gotten. Does anyone have resolution? Thanks.
I followed this procedure the other day and got everything synched up and car play showing up on the screen. It all changed when I started the engine and car play disappeared. Should the engine be started before doing all the setup?
Excellent video Sir. My issue is that I ride with my wife and have pretty much given up on using Apple CarPlay because I cannot figure out how to pair the second rider and use the intercom to speak to her. Your advice would be much appreciated
Jorge, it sounds like you are having an issue with pairing your two Bluetooth headsets with each other. Pairing the headsets to the Goldwing does not impact the intercom (the ability to talk to your wife on her headset). The communication between headsets is independent of the Goldwing audio system. Therefore, you need to research how to pair your headset to your wife's headset for intercom purposes. Which Bluetooth headsets do you have?
Great video Cruiseman, thank you. One thing I'd add: DON'T connect your phone to your helmet directly through bluetooth. Always do as is shown in the video: connect the helmet to the bike, connect the phone to the bike and the bike will talk to each as required. A third connection, directly between phone and helmet, seems to confuse things. This can cause a problem if you have a second bike which does not have Bluetooth, as in that case you would connect your phone to your helmet directly. That's not a CarPlay connection, of course. You can get audio, phone calls etc. But for CarPlay, the bike itself must support Bluetooth, and it must have control of the phone and helmet without them talking to each other 🙂
Hello, ‘23 model, used, so I restored settings before trying. Was able to Pair my Cardo headset, but still no Apple CarPlay. The error messages says “doesn’t start due to an unconnected headset” …… anybody know how to overcome this? Apple cord is from Apple as well, so isn’t that.
Does anyone know if they upgraded the version of Bluetooth to 5.0 or higher for the ‘21 model? I think previous models are 4.2? Do you have to plug the phone in on 5.0 or higher?
I want to just add a comment on an issue when trying to get CarPlay to work on my 2021 GW. In your instruction on connecting the headset (HS) you make some assumption, as there are multiple ways to connect the HS - "phone pairing' and "multi-point pairing". I assumed I should do a multi-point pairing as I was connecting to the bike not the phone. Well it didn't work even though the HS1 indicator was lit on the dash and I kept getting an error message "can't use CarPlay because the HS isn't connected". After going back over and over the pairing and through the manuals, I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. Apparently with most headsets you have BT pairing options, Phone and MultiPoint (for other devices). Since I was pairing with the bike, I did the multipoint pairing. The fix was to use the PHONE pairing option and pair the bike to the headset as a phone. Not exactly obvious and not really spelled out in any documentation. It should say that in the Honda manual but just says select device. There is no information explaining if your device has multiple ways of connecting, use the "connect phone" option. What kept throwing me off was the fact that the headset indicator on the dash was lit but nothing coming through the helmet. Once I used the "connect phone" option on the headset device the headset was recognized for use with CarPlay and I was able to play music in the helmet. Not sure if this would have been obvious for most people, but I share it in case anyone else runs into this. As mentioned, what confounded me was that the HS1 connection light was on, but no sound in the helmet.
I don't see much discussion on setting destinations by using a phone number which is the last method on the list. It will not work on a mobile phone number for obvious reasons but it is fast and accurate otherwise. I was having issue with an out of the way national park area but their phone number was easily located; I had a route in a few seconds! Good Luck to all
Cruiseman, I purchased a new Shoei Neotec 2 with Sena SRL 2. When I try to set up Apple CarPlay I turn on the helmet and get the icon with the 1 on the dash. When I plug in the phone I get a message that CarPlay won’t work as the helmet is not connected. ??? Any advice?
I just purchased a Sena 10S and am having issues , I get Apple Carplay to work and can listen to music but the sound comes through the motorcycle's speakers and not the helmet speakers. I have listened to music between my phone and headset before so I know the helmet is OK but cannot get it to come through the headset speakers.
@@cruisemansgarage that's just dumb. I could understand leaving out voice activation features and dictation, but you should still be able to use Waze or something like that without having to have a headset.
I’ve never had to hold the Siri button to get Siri. Just a tap and she replies. If I’m making a call I use Siri to find a business on the internet and place the call. I dislike Apple Maps so I use the Google Maps mike button to initiate navi in that program. I have not yet found a way to switch between the two screens in the split mode, as in split navi and music player. Recent annoyance: I had an Apple update Monday night. Tuesday startup showed Google Maps with no roads displayed. Disconnect and reconnect displayed the roads. 10 miles down the road and I was still showing at home. Disconnect and reconnect fixed that. This was not the first time I had issues after Apple updates. Just FYI. Nice, simple how to Chris. Good job.
I am still nit seeing the apple car play on the GW dashboard. I tried to follow the instructions. Does it matter what type of USB cable you are using to connect the iphone ? I connected my EarPods and plugged in my iphone into the USB in the trunk ….
Earpods won't work. You must have a Bluetooth headset paired to the Goldwing. Did you pair your Earpods to the Goldwing as a headset? If so, that might work. But, they cannot be paired to the iPhone at the same time. The Goldwing must be on, and the Earpods/Headset paired and connected before you plug in your phone.
@@cruisemansgarage thanks for the reply. Yes I connected the EarPods as Bluetooth (headset) and they showed up nicely on the GW display board. They were not connected to the iphone. I could hear music they the EarPods. But when connecting the iphone in the usb it doesnt show up. It’s the GW 2021 DCT tour
@@tariqbeg9875 In that case, make sure that in your General Settings, under Apple CarPlay that it is set to CarPlay and not iPod. You may need to try another USB cable, perhaps one from Apple. I think I had to try a different cable before mine would show up.
@@cruisemansgarage thanks! Yes it’s working now … though the arrows on the control panel button work the other way around.. I have to use the back arrow to go front … :-) strange ..as You suggested I will try with the Apple usb cable … thanks a lot for helping out Cruiseman
My 2018 Goldwing asks me every time I plug in my phone if I want Apple Car play even though I select always allow. Why does it give choices if every time you plug in your phone it’s gonna ask.
You can listen through the speakers. However, the headset must be connected. Press the speaker select button on the console to switch to bike speakers, but you must maintain a Blue tooth connection to your rider headset.
Is there anyway around this problem , i dont use headset, would prefer to play music thru speakers with applcarplay. Will Sena Freewire solve the problem?
After riding 14 different Harleys for the past 34 years, I decided it was time to trade mine in for at 2021Tour DCT. I love this machine but I have one complaint and it is the subject of this video. Believe it or not, the Harley and Honda units are made by the same folks. Harman. The Harley did not exhibit this problem. It made no difference at all what sequence I followed to connect bike to headsets and CarPlay. It always worked. I would love to discuss this with someone at Honda to see what can be done to fix this issue. Is there anyone who has any idea of how to reach the folks at Honda? This just shouldn't be so persnickety.
Honda pulled outdated rubbish tech from the tech trash can for our Wings. And they know it and don't want to speak to anybody about it. The Navi is straight out of 2006 Honda cars. Only real changes from the units used in the cars verse's our bikes is the car unit's were touch screen like ours should be and the units in our bikes have memory and the cars used a dvd drive to store the data on. Map look and function of the units are near identical. The Bluetooth version is 2.1+EDR from 2007. The BT version they ripped us off with is considered by all to be the last of the classic BT versions and went away real fast in favor of BT ver. 3.0. Honda should have never used the outdated junk Navi/audio system from 2006. The whole system is a digital/tech train wreck.
Indeed we should all complain to Honda the way they have programmed Apple car play(same as for the trunk size!!). Beside the very precise process to turn on the bike, then your headset, wait for the connection, then only plug in your iPhone, the navigation though the menus via the left handle bar arrows up and down ONLY makes no sense. You have to use the DOWN button to scroll the menus UP on the screen (in some cases) then up or down again to scroll the Apps right to left!! Except that is the complete opposite in some Apps such as WAZE!! This drives me crazy, especially when you are driving…I experiment as well the WAZE map freezing or becomes blank, so you have to manually stop the WAZE App on your iPhone, disconnect and reconnect the USB plug to restart it clean. Means that I had to reroute the USB cable from the trunk(thanks to the useless airbag!!) into the right small glove box to perform these processes. Glad I do not have to stop the bike and go in the trunk to perform this!! So, please HONDA, fix your crazy Software and make this wonderful Apple CarPlay a nice, safe and easy tool for the driver…!!!

There was no mention of that by Honda.
Can you use waze navigation on 2023 Goldwing?
Yes
Make sure Bluetooth is off on your phone.
Any advice?
Just read one of your comments that addressed the problem. Thanks.
Do you know anything about 06 goldwings?
I had an 05
I just purchased a Sena 10S and am having issues , I get Apple Carplay to work and can listen to music but the sound comes through the motorcycle's speakers and not the helmet speakers. I have listened to music between my phone and headset before so I know the helmet is OK but cannot get it to come through the headset speakers.
Found my issue, switch on console was set to motorcycle speakers.
So you cannot use CarPlay at all without a headset?!
Unfortunately, no.
Good job.
I just did the Apple iOS update too, I will check my Maps.
Yes, the USB cable MUST be a data cable (Apple), not just a charging cable.
My 2018 Goldwing asks me every time I plug in my phone if I want Apple Car play even though I select always allow. Why does it give choices if every time you plug in your phone it’s gonna ask.
Same here 🥺
Great vid. But deeply flawed Honda design choices forcing the headset to be paired with bike 1st. And annoying that it’s not wireless carplay.
Totally agree
Has anybody tried c2play2air 2
How about Android auto?
Why do we need a headset for apple car play???
Because they hate us. Seriously, CarPlay works flawlessly in my Honda Insight, just plug in the phone. It's not like a GW doesn't have speakers...
Hey the 2020 nav update can kiss my ass. Really learning to hate my pos 2019 goldwing. 4th and last Honda I will ever own.
Maybe watch the video above and use the Apple Maps app or whatever you use for navigation on your phone?
Why can’t you use CarPlay without a headset that’s kind of rediculous.
I think the logic is that there is no way to invoke SIRI without a headset,
@@cruisemansgarage I just picked up a 24 DCT non tour. I just want to use CarPlay for maps and music. There is no way around this?
The gold wing’s Apple CarPlay is absolute crap. I’ve tried everything and can’t get it to work. What a joke.
@@wonderwing5139 What does this have to do with CarPlay?
@@BugleBoogie It's all the tech that support cp and aa. These are the reasons why to quote you the system is "persnickety"
