Wow, that's way more complex than emergency starting a Harley. Entering the code is similar but no tools (where was the screwdriver kept?), no removing the rear plate, no secret key needed, no opening saddle bags. (and with HD one can program whatever number they want, my wife and my bike have the same code)
Actually, we would recommend you keep the fob on and close to the bike, otherwise the bike will be constantly searching for the fob, we would also recommend you use a battery tender if you are not already.
It is very easy to change the battery and not need to be scared, and yes keep in home the fob inside the gloves compartment, I bought my new motorcycle Sep 2019 and yesterday I replaced first time the battery more than 4 years after
People say easy to remove the plastic only with fingers is not true, I spent 15 minutes trying and I was unsuccessful, use the method he says or the knife in your belt.
Why didn’t they do what cars do and just have a place that you can hold the dead key near to start it. Even the Honda Civic with push button start, if the battery dies, you use the hard key to get in and hold the fob near I think the steering column to start it!
No need to use a screwdriver to remove the key access panel, taking a chance of scratching the bike. Simply stand facing the rear of the bike, place the fingers from both hands under the edge of the panel, and while pushing the bottom of the panel up, pull outward and upward. The panel will easily come off...
I bought a 2019 Goldwing tour, used in 2020. The person I bought it from didn’t leave me the keys that go into the fobs. I was able to get the key code from the dealership but no keys. I’ve gone to a two locksmiths with the key code but no luck getting a key. Any ideas?
This why it's a good idea to purchase a 2nd key FOB. If you lose the original, or the battery in the FOB goes dead, the only way to start it is by using this procedure...
Hi . I lost the goldwing 2018 remote, I bought a new remote, and I tried the same way as you did, but in the end it does not work and makes an intermittent whistle sound. Can you tell me what to do?
No. The 8 digit code is for the spare keys. The emergency start code is a nine digit number on a metal plate. Most people enter this number in their phone so they always have it...
@@jamesbottger5894 nope .... exact opposite - 9 digit code is on the slip of paper - its used for the restart. The 8 digit code on the metal plate is for the keys - in case you want to order an extra key
@@jamesbottger5894 What can I do if I don't have the code? (I only received one fob from the private party I bought it from.) Does code correspond with VIN?
I know with all the engineers at Honda, they could’ve worked a little longer and made this a lot HARDER to do. My Indian Roadmaster you enter a 4 digit code, and you’re on your way.
This is more of a question: I purchased the 2018 GW from a private party for which I cannot reach. I was given one fob, but no tag with the code or any other location on the bike or manuals. Is there another way to obtain that code? The dealer was no help.
Only the original selling dealer will have that code, another option would be to buy one or two additional key fobs and have them programmed to your fob, at least then you would have a back up.
If I get my fob close to the bike and open the left an d right saddle bags and then place the fob well away from the bike, I still can not get into the little cubbie near the right knee as it also is locked and requires the fob. I love you video but question my ability to input the emergency startup procedure without the ability to get into the cubbie.
Disregard this post as I have watched you video several time and I realize that you are just pushing the gas cubbie button even though the cubbie will not open. Sorry. But, again thanks for the video.
What he is not telling you is that if you lose your manual key u cannot use the emergency start procedures... Trust me..i.jus went through this.. I lost both fob and manual key.. had to get a locksmith to make a manual key to unlock it. Then get it to a honda dealer to program it. But you have to have the original 9 digit code so it will work and for them to program the new key fob it's a pain in the butt.. it takes a dealer about an hour to do it ..especially if they haven't done many..any questions feel free to email me..lorenzom19642@gmail.com
I tried the emergency start in my 2018 Goldwing and it won't be deactivated somehow now my bike won't start normally is there anyway I can solve this problem?
That cover that covers the keyhole isn't that hard to get off.. you can literally do it with your fingers mine fell off the first month I had my bike and it had never been taken off before. Make sure it's on tight though because that piece of plastic cost 25 bucks...
Jody Z doesn't do any good without the hard key and this bike will more then likely never be left outside. Plus it's a brown Wing you don't have a vin can't match it up.
Heartland Honda ... unless customers take your advice and store spare key on the bike that only needs a screwdriver to locate. Bam! Spare key and the code. I understand the slim odds of all things aligning in the universe to have this bike disappear from a parking lot... I understand Honda’s employment of two factor authentication here (something you have (key) and something you know (code)) and it’s a solid idea as long as the code isn’t written down by the customer and kept with the bike which I can see happening with the customer that also keeps his computer passwords under his/her keyboard.
What a fantastic, no BS video. Thank you from Australia fellas. My dealership gave no info on this process.
puts up video, but does not bother to answer any questions. Brilliant.
Had a few questions, guess will look for another video.
This is SUPER helpful...thank you!!!

Very clear procedure. Much appreciated.
Security is everything
, And never hurts
but is all this process factory default?
Does each bike come with its code?
Thanks
Each bike comes with its own code...you couldn't enter your code into another GW and start it...
My dealer Never showed me this.
Mine didn't either.
Thanks for the video. Is it a good idea to turn the FOB off when not using the motorcycle? Does it extend battery life?

What if you have a dead battery will you still be able to open the side door?

Nice but what if you buy a salvage bike and it has no fob no key no code. What can one do? can you get the code from the ECM or by the VIN?
What are you pushing the numbers into

What computer engineer dreamed all that crap up? Talk about exhausting. I am tried just watching it.

Btw Canadian bikes come with two fobs😊
Thanks for the great info . Nice Goldwing .....

Interesting.
Do you recommend installing a battery tender on a Gold Wing.
Yes we would recommend putting a tender on your Goldwing
Ok, thanks.

Is the number stamped on the tag on the extra key the same as the one on the paper attached to the fob?

Hi, am asking for , where I can get a ID code if I bay a used goldwing 2018 .help me out plz.
Your best bet would be to contact the original selling dealer as they should have the code.
So what is the other number that is on a metal tab for?
for ordering a replacement key
