Why do reviewers always misleadingly not mention that the pen doesn't need to be charged to use its main features? Also the S Pen uses a supercapacitor, not a battery, so it takes less than a minute to get a usable charge (again, only for the BT features as all other features are passive) and doesn't degrade as fast as lithium ion batteries. A full 10-ish minute charge will get you over 10 hours of standby time or something stupid long like that.

In my opinion, many do not even know about that... I am a tab S7 user and I feel most of the reviewers including MKBHD did not even know that the pen can be snapped on the side when they reviewed it last year... I was like "what?"... for most uses, you do not need to charge is something I am sure many reviewers are not aware of...

Add to that ... NATIVE Handwriting to text ... SAMSUNG does it best.
On Surface -- it's not snappy ... consistent lag and not intuitive.
On iPad OS -- it's CRAP (scribble) ... so many issues here I do not even know where to start. Scribble is an ALPHA (not even beta) implementation.
On SAMSUNG it's super refined. Switching between typing and writing is seamless ... inserting punctuation is also easy. The floating writing pad is just stellar 👌.
I wish these topics were actually covered.

Samsung should have a easy way for their customers (The real buyers) to sugest things to the company on device. That way they can have a real ear to the streets in what day to day users experience vs what youtube reviewers who spend little time with the device have to say. Then they can use a computer program to filter the most common suggestions so they can get updates out faster that people actually want. I would send them things as they occur to me if it were easier to do verse having to pull up their website and it beats them just taking the information from my device from a security/privacy standpoint. I wouldn't consider this bloatware if it came as a widget on their devices that can be taken off the homescreen after purchase. No shady marketing practices needed, I would simply tell them what I want for my money. So many youtube influencers get it wrong because they are biased and give Samsung a bad reputation.

I don't have a Samsung tablet, but I have S21. I've used DEX for more than 3 years now and it really is a game changer. As an ESL specialist constantly assessing English language development, even more so. Looking forward to holding one and seeing how comfortable it will serve as such a digital clipboard. I think students are definitely able to make good use of something like this as a main device. I personally use a Galaxy Tab s7+ for all my homework, notetaking, books, etc. at university, and it has made a massive difference. Huge plus on not having to carry around large binders of notes that are still impossible to navigate and maintain organization with. I will say, the ultra specifically does seem to be less practical for students, given the price tag and size. Something about the size of the Tab s7+ or s8+ is a sweet spot for me.

The beauty of the S Pen is that it still works without having to charge it. You only lose out on the Bluetooth features like triggering taking photos/videos with the it when it's not charged. So you don't have to store the pen on the back if all you want to do is write/draw/navigate with it. With the Apple pencil, it's basically useless if not charged.

Sorry guys but I run my entire business on both a premium Chromebook and Galaxy Tab S7+ (will be purchasing the 8 Ultra). Much of what many people do is within the browser (not sure why there's still confusion about this); also, my entire workflow takes place within Google's Cloud so a premium Chromebook and a formidable Android tablet is more than I need to successfully do everything I can possibly think of and I've been successfully doing so for the past 11 years (haven't touched or ever needed a Windows or macOS PC, at all). Again, since my entire business is run within Google's ecosystem, I never need to worry about what device I'm using and never need to worry about manually transferring data (which I find shocking many still need to do) anyway, that's me. I feel like a lot of the most popular tech TH-camrs have a very skewed view on the tablet space. This is the first time a tablet not called iPad has received so much attention, and it's still only Dave2D and MKBHD. Is the iPad Pro faster? Yeah, coz it's got the same chip that powers a laptop. I feel like these people look at "productivity" mostly from the lens of video editing because that's what their use case is, which is fair, but that and intensive digital artistry are about the only two things that the iPad Pro has on the Samsung tablets.
The Tab S lineup is so much better at being an actual tablet. It comes with the pen included unlike the iPad Pro, and the pen can run without battery too and just has a much superior direct feel on the screen, for the iPad most people have to shell oit $130 for the pen and $40 for the Paperlike screen protector. Samsung Notes is ludicrously powerful for note taking and organizing. The Dex space makes it a genuine mobile laptop experience that you can do most basic functions on. It has integration within the Samsung world obviously but can also be easily paired up with computers as a second screen. And it is so so so much better for content consumption.

Ipad being faster means its better for not just photo and video editing, but also games, and is going to last much longer. Pathetic for samsung to charge 1100 for a tablet with a phone processor.
The ipad just has a bigger and better suite of optimised apps, and definitely a better screen, as it gets 4x as bright, and gets much darker due to the samsung having such a poor anti reflectivity coating.
Also can be used as a second screen for macs, and universal control.

I originally bought a laptop and while I will still use that for certain things, the fact that I no longer carry around any books, pens or my laptop has been incredible. The size is perfect for having a note app open along side a pdf or webpage and even also TH-cam on top of that. I hate spilt screen mode on anything normally but not on this, it just works so well. It seems like the perfect size for any student. I however think it would be too big if I was to use it for anything else, like, I don't enjoying watching anything full screen because its too big unless I place it away from me and I would just rather choose my PC in that case. But that doesn't matter because thats not what I bought it for. Would highly recommend it for any student though.

As a student, a tablet makes a lot of sense as a great note taking device. I can easily pull up my professors lecture notes from online and upload and share those notes easily. Not to mention it reduced my bag weight by close to 10lbs, which was previously very straining and is what prompted me to get an iPad.

If the question is “who are expensive/powerful/large tablets for?” there are obv many answers but personally I think in their current state they are best for those who don’t require local processing for their workflow. Those who are remoting into servers, desktops, utilizing streaming services. The adv of Dex being that you can plug the tablet into an ext monitor/dock, the adv of ipadOS being the more optimized software but requires a MacMini as dock for ext monitor.

I consistently have like samsung notes open to write, a pdf open in which i also mark stuff or annotate or a browser window, sometimes all 3. And apart from that the obvious things like watching something and scrolling through some social media app at the same time is great. The only real drawback to me is the subpar support of some common apps.

As a math teacher, I really really glad that samsung makes this tablet. I've been using tab s7 for the past 1.5 years and I just upgraded to this tablet because of RAM and size reason and for multitasking monster. I always use it in Dex mode. When I'm teacheng, I open zoom, pdf reader, whatsapp, classkick (an app for student - techer sharring worksheets in real time) and for addition, while I'm waiting the students doing their worksheets I can do a lot of other stuff. Sometimes I type exercises on microsoft word or making banner through photoshop with google remote desktop. It's obviously not for TH-camrs who haven't done their research too well and hardly have used it and don't know too much about the features. For a designer, illustrator, artist, architect and even a student this is really a great tablet. The iPad Pro due to it's form factor isn't great to use in multi-tasking, you end up with one reasonable panel and one panel too small for the app. This has 2 equally sized panels making it perfect to have the internet open or a book in one panel and then have a note app open in the second panel, which has then plenty of room to actually take notes. Unlike the iPad where you end up with a small panel to take notes in.
As an illustrator and artist this tablet has another trick up it's sleave if you use Clip Studio Paint. You can use the full screen for drawing & painting, while it moves all the menus and functions to your phone. The extra real estate of the screen and that feature make this pretty awesome to draw and paint on. Also because of the larger screen, reference photos don't get in the way as they do with the iPad Pro and that is a huge advantage as well.
In the past Android tablets weren't a match for the iPad, but with apps like Clip Studio Paint & Krita being on Android now it becomes a more serious contender.

I think my use scenario for this device might be interesting and a little unusual so here it goes:
    1. At home I have a pretty good desk set up for work and editing youtube videos.
    2. My smartphone I only need for basic smart uses (whatsapp, gmail, audible, spotify, etc)
    3. My smartphone is my main camera for my youtube videos, but honestly nowadays almost any smartphone has pretty good cameras.
    4. Tablet is what I don't have and the reason I'd consider this one is:
4.1 TH-cam management. i.e. writing scripts, replying to comments, obsessing over analytics, etc.
4.2 I work as an interpreter all around London, I never know if I will be sitting or standing when interpreting and I do real time interpreting so I need to take notes on the go at talking speed without a keyboard, while also being able to access my dictionary and vocab lists for professional terms (especially medical terms).
4.3 I also work as an online language teacher, so when I'm out and about I always need to cancel a lot of classes cause I don't have a set I can use to still teach my classes on the go. With this I can still make presentations, share screen with my students and take notes on their progress as they speak without looking away from the screen so they don't feel ignored. I have got them used to quality camera and mic when taking classes with me so I can't suddenly just dropped that and some of them are little children so consistency is key for them to stay engaged. Still the thing needs to be portable and function as a tablet for interpreting, so laptops are not really an option, I've tried.
4.4 I need something potentially powerful enough that I replicate my home set up, software wise for youtube video editing (I run linux on my home desktop) because I live in the UK but my family are all back home in Costa Rica and my gf's family are all back in Poland and on top of that we like to travel, so I need to be able to still edit my videos when visiting family without having to move an entire work station, but since whatever I buy needs to also do all the other mentioned tasks, again, a laptop won't do.

I need all three. Tablet for media consumption, I'm not going to watch TH-cam/netflix on a phone or laptop, and when I'm researching a product for example, I don't want to get my laptop out, but my phone is too small. Also drawing in bed and just using it in bed in general. I use my tablet more than my phone or laptop combined, but my tablet can't do texts as well or taking it to the store etc, and it can't do heavy research, real games, or homework as well(I do a lot of math so I need easy access to weird keys) etc. I personally need all three.

At the moment tablets are heavily limited by the software in them, like iPad Pros and this tab S8U are wasting their abilities and features for commonplace tasks. I really think this Tab as is can serve as a drawing tab in its most creative implementation but for anything else smartphones or proper windows laptop devices are miles ahead depending on which side of the fence you find yourself.

Is it a big enough demographic to justify the existence of such an innovative platform? (Especially with Apple's stranglehold on that same segment)

I prefer to form factor of a tablet when consuming media. My job doesn't require that I carry a laptop everywhere I go and I can do the hard stuff when I get back to the office. I don't take laptops with me. when I go on vacation I take my phone and my tablet and sometimes two tablets.

I travel long haul every month and my work flow is outlook, slack, ms office and teams calls. Just got an Ultra and it does all that so much better than my ms Surface Pro 8 - one of the biggest reasons being it has battery life. Plus the cellular connection is super convenient. Android does Office 365 really well (as does iPadOS). I have an Intel x86 at home for gaming, but don't really see the point of x86 in laptops any more. Noisy, hot, short battery life.

    The phone for obvious reasons,
The tablet (iPad) was for work and notes
And the laptop was for gaming and any software not available on the tablet, which was also the very reason I could never truly ditch my laptop for my iPad
This Tab S8 ultra definitely ain’t for me since it combines the worst of both worlds for me, a tablet too large to be portable, or a laptop with none of the desktop software I might need. It’s the same reason I didn’t go for the 12.9” iPad, basically too much tablet, not enough laptop

For a guy who mostly goes to board meetings and streams media this is perfect. I've put up with an iPad Pro for the last three years but their locked down file system kills me. I'm a Windows guy and Android and Windows subscribe to the philosophy that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So Windows and Android play nice while Apple plays nice with nobody. They have their ecosystem and see no reason to cooperate with Android or Windows. So as a guy with a Note 20 Ultra and a Dell XPS 15 ultrabook this is the tablet and keyboard case for me.
