      Samsung made me ditch my laptop and buy an S8+ tablet. By made me, I mean I have fallen in love with their galaxy note phones, I love my z fold 4, so a Samsung tablet was the next logical step.

    • @emirhan2284
      @emirhan2284 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@chazmichaelmichaels88 I want to get a tablet (mostly for uni) now and was thinking of getting the S8+ because I feel like it's a really really great tablet with a perfect size.
      It will be mainly for note taking, but by getting a tablet I want to also get back to drawing stuff.
      With a decent discount I feel like this is the tablet to go for.
      I never had any Apple device and while I acknowledge that they also have amazing tablets, I just feel like that the S8+ is the best you can get for your money.
      How do you feel about your S8+?
      Do you like the size or would you rather have a 11 inch display?

    • @chazmichaelmichaels88
      @chazmichaelmichaels88 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Emirhan you make very good points. My S8+ replaces 99% of the things I need tech for. The only exception for me is I cannot play old school runescape on my tablet (unless using the mobile app), though this isn't an issue.
      The DEX feature makes it very easy to transition from an OS with a desktop, to a tablet that is essentially a laptop.
      In terms of size, the S8+ is large, it is definitely meant to be sat on a table, however I like to watch videos so I bought a "supcase" on Amazon for like $30, it has a a place to strap your hand which is a must if you intend on carrying the tablet in hand. When I bought my tablet, I bought the $50 basic, kickstand Samsung case, I dropped it and the screen cracked (avoid this, buy from Samsung and get Samsung care+ to ensure you don't break your bank, trust me on this one, it's worth the cost). Anyways, after the drop, I find it extremely important to have a case with a hand strap.
      I'm free to answer any questions you may have.
      Btw, the s8, s8+ ans s8 ultra are all amazing. S8 has basic screen, s8+ is the ultra but smaller and the s8 ultra is the biggest and best (though the ultra can do a bit more, it really isn't worth the extra cost unless you get a great deal.)
      Just keep in mind, it's a big and beautiful tablet. Handling it is 100% your biggest risk, invest in liquid glass AND a tempered glass screen protector. Get a decent "rugged" case and ensure you have some sort of accidental insurance. Promise you won't regret the purchase.
      Again, feel free to ask me whatever questions you have.

    • @chazmichaelmichaels88
      @chazmichaelmichaels88 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Emirhan Oh! Also, for your education, ensure the tablet can run the softwares you may be required to use. It is an extremely powerful tablet, but due to software restrictions it will not 100% replace a laptop/desktop.

    As about the brightness, it can go up to 600 nits if you turn on auto- brightness (without it is indeed limited to 400 nits), however with HDR content the measured peak brightness is 800 nits (you need to activate the bright video mode in the advanced featues for this) which is insane as most of the modern OLED TV-s can't reach this level. Especially because the iPads have a 4:3 ratio while this is a wider 16:10 ratio, which makes video even wider than just the screen size increase. It's pretty much perfect for comic as it feels finally the right size. Highly recommend this tablet as I've loved using it since I got it. No problems with brightness in sunny rooms although I haven't used it outdoors.

    As a long-time Samsung android tablet user, I would really recommend using the SAMSUNG INTERNET BROWSER. That thing is a game-changer and makes the experience even more like a DESKTOP experience as it loads sites in their desktop versions, this is important because you won't be presented with weird mobile layout pages on such a huge screen (of course, Chrome browser can do this too, but you have to set to desktop mode FOR EACH tab every time which is a little cumbersome to me.).
    I'm saying this because the Samsung Internet browser is underrated and not getting the right acknowledgment it deserves. Most of my daily work tasks can be done through a browser (answering emails, google services such as spreadsheets and docs, Jira, etc) but some can only work best when being viewed in desktop mode (ahem, google services!) as the mobile version won't cut it.
    Bottom line, I like for a mobile browser to load the desktop versions of the sites I'm visiting especially on a tablet with a screen this big (14.6 inches). It makes more sense. :)

      I read something a while back about how you should almost always use the browser designed to go with the device, because they are just built to work seamlessly on those devices and in almost all cases they are just a little bit faster. Like using safari on Apple products, Chrome on Chromebook/Androids, and I think it even went as far as to say Edge on Microsoft products(not sure I agree there though). I don't remember anything about the Samsung browser but I guess I would believe that it would be better optimized to work better with Samsung devices as well.

    As a musician I have always wanted to see a competitor to the iPad Pro, for reading and writing on sheet music. Most musicians prefer the iPad Pro, or at least air, as it is a similar enough size to an a4 piece of paper making it a easy to read scores, without squinting. The app I use; ForScore has always been the best app to view and editing scores on the fly, quickly adding notation, and is especially good at handling lots of massive digital scores taking up heaps of storage in one easy to access app, and so I love the iPad for that. But the fact it has always been the only option has been really annoying! So now that this is out and bigger, makes it perfect for reading scores! Now I hope the just put something similar to forscore on the Samsung tab ultra and I can start recommending it to friends and colleagues, might even look at one myself for the future!

    • @Oleg__
      @Oleg__ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Same story for me. I've been waiting for a 15" iPad (better with 3 : 2 aspect ratio, 16 : 10 is already pretty narrow) for years. And forScore shouldn't be solely focused on Apple systems, it's even more obvious now.

    • @paquinho12

      @Oleg__ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@EscapeVelocity11186 I don't think that's a valid comparison. In this case, the people who need such an application clearly understand why they need the application. • @EscapeVelocity11186
      @EscapeVelocity11186 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Oleg__ I mean, it's just history at this point. Android has been turning things around for professional users and app developers more recently, but for years on end, Android did nothing to stimulate a professional userbase and was not a good business environment for app devs despite ease of development.
      Here's the data: in 2021, despite being around 15% of global smartphone marketshare, iOS claimed 63% of total app revenue and 76% of non-game app revenue. 79% of subscription revenues were generated on iOS. And that's from having nearly 1/6 the userbase. This is the kind of market that app devs want to see - potential customers that will not just spend a lot of money, but spend money on a regular basis (subscription models > single-purchases for app devs due to continuous development costs). And iOS is easier to support to boot due to the relative homogeneity of Apple's product lineup.
      When it comes to non-game professional use, iOS clearly has an edge. Only recently, as Android has put a lot more focus on tablet form factors with Android 12L and big Android manufacturers like Samsung up their tablet game, do we see some apps start arriving on Android (likely with good deals from manufacturers like Samsung to ease the transition costs). Still, for creatives and many professionals, the iPad is the place to be because of the ecosystem and the history of long-term support, both from Apple and from app developers.

Windows simply does not sit well with a touch UI and Apple and Samsung have proven that a specific mobile OS for tablets is the de facto course. @@RuiX95 yeah this whole feature was added to dex. I just read an article about this they said tab s8 to s22 series but they also said any samsung flag ship. Meaning any samsung phone that can run dex. Dex was introduced i think in the s10 series if i remember correctly.
      Anyways yeah it should work with your s21. I just traded in my s21 ultra but that worked with dex. I tried it on a tab s8 ultra display model in a store and it had no problems connecting. Again long as it can run dex you should be able to use the two screen feature.

    And wow samsung is finally doing something different and they nail it, I hope they maintain this! Go samsung!

      Yup Samsung is doing great but… when getting rhis tablet the only reason I see is the display. The iPad Pro has so much better performance, and whole having a big tablet is great I just want it to fit into a backpack… and that M1 chip is killer… although Samsung might have a littler better phones (which is arguable) apple dominates the computer and iPad market

    I never cared about tablets until the s8 ultra. I used my iPad Pro for probably a week before I got bored of it. I’ve been using this tablet daily for a solid month and can’t live without it now. Love it so much I got another one for work. Worth every penny of its asking price and this is coming from an apple fanboy.

    I absolutely love it in vertical orientation. Its absurd and loud and in your face how huge it is. But, reading notes while multitasking a video lecture or a triple video call. It's perfect for business and education. Even medical practitioners will have a use for the sheer size of it. Viewing patient information and x-ray etc... But ios got them by the notch

    I use this tablet for school to replace my old computer and it's amazing. I got it used for almost half off. Removes extra notebooks and great for having multiple apps while studying. And the screen is big enough that I can use it comfortable as a "laptop" with the keyboard case. Super great device and you can get it used for a great price. The s pen is really good and samsung notes is goated. samsung notes is really good

    I really like my Tab S6 - it was killer value compared to the iPads available at the time. Still use it regularly. But looking at this for the money I can't help but think you're better of buying a laptop like a MacBook Air or similar Windows Laptop. Perhaps the standard Tab S8 is more compelling, but for me I'd argue I can get more done on a MacBook for less money.

      Couldn't have said it better. Sure, the Tab S8 is cutting edge, but for that money, a laptop is better. I bought a HP Laptop with Ryzen 5600h last November. I use it like everyday for programming in Python, Golang and JavaScript. Currently learning Data Science and Machine Learning as well. I also play games occasionally. I couldn't have been happier!

      I still think, 2in1 is a much better product for those who want touch capability and like to use it as tablet for watching movies.
      Instead of buying two separate devices (Tablet + Laptop) buying 2in1 makes more sense. Obviously, 2in1 needs more caring as they not as durable as Laptop (non 2in1).

      Tablets are not necessarily replacement for devices like MacBook air. I personally own a tab s7 and my primary use case is taking notes for college and Art. I couldn't really do that in a laptop. For everything else from photo/video editing to word processing, tabs should get you 80% of the way there. So yeah I don't thinks tablets are meant to be laptop replacements instead they are just a different segment. I personally wouldn't trade it for any laptop out there

    I still have my galaxy tab s5e, which I love, and one thing that also surprised me was the quality and loudness of the sound of the 4(!) speakers. They are miles ahead of my actual laptop's speakers. I guess we have AKG to thank for that? The battery life is also something I wasn't expecting to be this good.

    I've been buying tablets since Samsung galaxy tab s2 9.7in . I remember seeing the 11in iPad Pro and thinking man this is too big lol. But here we are in 2022 with a freakin 14.6 tablet in use?!?! Just wow! I'm using the samsung tab s7+ right now, and am happy to not upgrade for a few more years. But am thrilled to have such a tablet in market in 2022. Although not for me right now.

    My husband and I have never owned a smartphone, but please don't assume that we're a couple of old fogies that are tech illiterate. We are, indeed, tech savvy. We met while working at Nokia. I was a supervisor and my husband worked in the advanced tech customer service department. We've never understood why everyone got so addicted to using their smartphones - especially to communicate and trying to view assets on such a small screen. I have personally seen so many miscommunications happen because of this, which certainly does not lend itself to world peace. It would be nice if we could all get back to using phones to simply speak to one another but start using desktop computers, laptops and tablets like this for everything else. Thank you for sharing info on this Galaxy Tab. It's fantastic! Blessings to you and yours!
