Which platform do you prefer for skin education? Instagram @drdavinlim or this channel, let me know in the comments section below so I can tailor education depending on your liking.
Diet plays an important role in the management of acne, as do supplements such as zinc. Finding the correct combination for your skin type is the key, as everyone has a unique pattern of acne. Some have blackhead acne and clogged pores - peels and retinol help in this context. Some have papular pustular zits, and in this context - phototherapy - LED, Omnilux and Kleresca can help accelerate healing in conjunction with diet. Hormonal acne, or to be more specific, adult jawline hormonal acne is complex, and like the name suggests it is primarily due to hormones, but also contributed by stress, make up, occlusion, and in many cases diet. Treatment of this subgroup of acne is harder with diet alone.
With Instagram Post I can educate patients in subgroups, for example- what is the best sunscreen for acne prone skin? I even cover cleansers for sensitive skin and how to apply retinoids to treat acne. Simple bite size tips and hints you can incorporate every week. So if you have followed me its super easy @drdavinlim . Have a look and you can see the added educational benefits of Instagram.
Studies so far have focused mostly on the foods that make acne worse. Here are the three that come up most often as culprits in increasing breakouts. Avoid these for 2 weeks, and see if you notice a difference. Realize that acne is much more complex than a food trigger, its everything else you do- from stress levels, through to the correct make up, sunscreen, moisturizer and cleanser. Acne is one of the hardest chronic medical conditions to understand. So - here is the low down on food and acne.
MILK- The 2010 study in the JAAD or American Journal of dermatology found an association between cow’s milk and acne. Cow’s milk spikes blood sugar, which can increase inflammation- leading to zits, acne and pimples. It modulates IGF-1 levels, increases the production of skin oils.
SUGAR- is every where from soda, pearl tea, candy, and desserts. This spikes your blood sugar levels, and you could break out hours later. If you suspect sugar could be a culprit for you, decrease your sugar load to make that difference.
HIGH-GLYCEMIC FOODS- These are foods that break down quickly in the body, triggering an insulin spike and raising blood sugar levels. They trigger hormonal fluctuations and inflammation-both of which encourage acne. Foods like white bread, processed breakfast cereals, white rice, potato chips, cookies and cakes. Choose low glycemic-index foods instead, like vegetables, whole grains, potatoes, and most fruits.
Now for some resources at your disposal. Don’t subscribe to Internet sales scammers about an acne diet guide that will cure your acne for life. Follow the above tips, talk to ACTUAL patients online at acne.org and if needed spend your money on a dietician - it s far cheaper than seeing a dermatologist who may only hand you a script of Accutane and say- ‘see you next month’

www.acne.org/m... 25,000 diet posts. This website is the definitive non biased forum for management of acne and acne scarring. Hands down the best site in the World at the moment for resources on acne.
Apart from Accutane, acne can be treated with peels, vitamin A creams- retinol, as well as good skin care including correct use of cleansers, exfoliants and in females make up.The use low level laser emission devices such as blue light- omnilux as well as a variety of peels such as BHA or Lactic Acid peels can address acne. As a laser dermatologist my favourite combination is red light laser, followed by blue light low level laser emission devices. Works a treat for a few weeks. As I am lasing, I always nag patients about their diet. Now ff all else fails, a general dermatologist can prescribe medication to address hormonal issues, or tablets that decrease oil production. I personally do not prescribe, as in the interest of your safety blood tests and close monitoring is needed. If you have cystic scarring acne, I will always work in with a medical colleague to get you under control, but firstly, seriously - diet first.

Having acne is so hard. Sometimes I just don’t eat because I feel like everything gives me acne.
change to antioxidant diet and cut a bit on sugar, process food, dairy would be great but on top of that, dont stress a lot about it as much as you can.
stress is really bad for health general and acne ofc. my acne got worse and worse everytime i stress about it.
i hope yours will be healed/gone faster. love you
Hunter Heshle I was jealous of people with near perfect skin. I wondered if they were doing something I wasn’t. I tried so many different things for my acne. It drove me insane. Once I learned food could affect acne I was so afraid to eat! I thought so many things were breaking me out. Now I understand that too much sugar breaks me out... but I love sweets soo much! I know sugar is bad anyway, but I just enjoy myself every now and then. I’m on aczone, fabior foam, and spironolactone... I wash my face EVERYDAY, twice a day and spend so much money on skincare products. I’m also an Esthetician.
Hunter Heshle thats how i am, i have acne its not too bad but i always have at least something on my face at any given time, i need to gain weight though so i cant give up milk or bread and i need to focus on shoving food down my throat all day, i used to just eat like rice and beef but now im eating wayyyy more food and added lots of fruits and veggies to my diet and my acne is definitely more under control now with all those extra micronutrients
Sydney J yh true same x
Matt haha same. I eat rice with veggies and beef but now I need to eat more fruits and veggies less rice and dairy and sugar
Omg, a dermatologist who actually knows how diet and gut health can be related to acne?? Am I in the twilight zone? This is great! Thanks for existing!
Dr Lim never mentioned gut health. You might just be in the twilight zone.
kalex888 At least he mentioned diet and food none-the-less. That’s some hope for the world of dermatology.
The dermatologist I went to ruined my skin. The scars on my face are due to her. She used abrasive creams on my face which burned my skin severely and when I told her that I was getting allergic reactions to that she told me I should bear with it and it would get better or that I was using it the wrong way.
Her solution and the solution for all dermatologists here in Germany against acne appears to be to used a soap-free cleanser and burning gels. My skin got worse and worse until I started to use a natural skin care routine with rich creams and stuff. Now I only use a vegan and raw cleansing milk to remove my makeup and coconut oil to gently take off my eye makeup and eat no dairy nor added sugar anymore. Except goat cheese. Goat cheese is heaven.
Also drink mint tea twice a day, green tea and dandelion tea. They are wonderful for your skin.
And I try to incorporate probiotics into my diet, many fresh fruits and vegetables, eating a lot of styr fries and my skin is finally healing.
Think about taking probiotics in supplement form if it's hard for you to eat them. And also take turmeric capsules. They are amazing and also fight off colds!
@@Pschychotically yes you can't trust all of them. i suggest before you go to a particular dermatologist go research what the majorities of dermatologists say about acne, so that you have the basic knowledge. I watched a lot of Drm Dray's videos, she's great, she even try out products on her own for us, KraveBeauty's founder, Liah Yoo, this girl is also great, i'm not sure if she's an esthetician or skincare specialist tho(?) but she's great. and Hyram! he's a skincare specialist and he's the one who educates me the most about skincare and currently, this doctor! You always need to research on your own first.
My daughter certainly enjoys this acne guide *AcneCureOnline. Com* For a year and a half we struggled purchasing various acne treatments without results. I am happy that we`ve discovered this guide. After a few days of using it, I noticed its change and her acne had cleared up after a couple of weeks. .
Having acne is like there are times that your acne is healing and you're like "omg my skin care routine is finally working" and then the next day my acne is like " hello I'm back" 😭
Nooo, that happened way too many times😭😭
Every few days 😫😫😫😭😭
That's me right now.
ohhhh sooooo relatable....
Yeah that gets me everytime. And I have a poor diet thats just adding to the bad news☹️
I just came from a dermatologist and after I told her I had less breakouts after I stopped drinking milk, she said acne can't be caused by food! Okay I'm not coming back for acne issues!
chichidoo wow that's insane!
Jessica Faustin ikr that’s crazy she probably just wants money for medicine
Bruh milk has hormones of an animal it def has affect on acnes bruh
yominix • hormones from animals 🤣💀?
Well they can’t make any money if you are just changing your diet 🤷♀️
I really cured my hormonal acne (for a while) by eating only antioxidants ,salmon, tuna, organic eggs , non-dairy, no-sugar, and super foods for 1 month, but then i started to eat foods with sugar ,decreased the amount of salmon ...And started to breakout again😭. I can't eat perfect all my life like non-stop . I love having a donut, ice cream, AND a delicious hamburger sometimes. 😢
I eat vegan, dairy free ice-cream. Its made with coconut milk, cashew milk or almond milk and its just as good, actually even better. if you ever feel like eating something sweet just have some of that, trust me, its bomb.
When I ate a lof ot vegetables, I had almost perfect skin. So maybe you can try that along with the bad foods. xD
Try to use erythrytol, and fish oil capsules
You don't have to eliminate your craving, just find a satisfying healthy alternative
@@RoniiiB I'd rather kill myself than eat dairy free sugar free ice cream.
I'm so so happy that finally someone with authority is putting this out there! Quitting dairy has finally improved my acne after 25 years of it ruining my skin and my wallet 😢. Now I have scars and suffer from rosacea from all the harsh treatments... I wish I've been told this years ago! Love you Dr. Lim, you're so awesome! 😘😘😘
Laetitia Lalila That is wonderful to hear. I have issues on my face cause by dairy. Wish I new about it. Now I am dairy free and follow the FODMAP diet. I have sensitivity to a few different foods.
@Fintan It's crazy how predictable this is! Sometimes I have a slice of pizza with cheese on it, and I ALWAYS suffer the consequences a couple of days later. I only do it once every 2-3 months though, and my skin is infinitely better. It did take about 9 months of strict dairy free diet for my skin to clear up, so stick in there! It's so so worth it, I almost want to cry. Good luck! 😊
@Fintan Thanks for the tip! 😇
Try products from company called Hempson. They are made from cbd oil. And avoid soy also .
@@laetitialalila7390 btw you can make vegetarian pizza from vege cheese. And gluten free grains.
So happy that there’s finally a link between dairy and acne.. the day I stopped consuming milk, was the last time I ever had painful, hard, cystic acne. When I went to Esthetician schooling, I told all of my clients about my link between dairy and acne. So many clients thanked me for the tip because it really made a difference in their skin.
Something that really confused me during my training is that we were taught that diet DOES NOT affect acne. I went to school at Aveda and the second I read this is in my Esthetic Fundamentals book, it broke my excitement to be there. I felt like I was wasting my hard earned money. How could I trust anything my educators were teaching me if I knew so strongly that they were wrong. From that day forward, I took all of my training with a grain of salt.
Papers on dairy started over a decade ago, some dermatologist don't keep up to date @@akezia8829
meanwhile big pharma has been selling us topicals and facial creams, knowing full well for decades, that it all starts from what we eat
Last time I consumed milk was 2 days ago and after all these things I’ve seen, I’m never drinking it again!
“A lot of dermatologists I know just wanna give you drugs and that’s bad”
*OMG YES, SOMEONE WITH GOOD INTENTIONS ACTUALLY SAYING THE TRUTH AND PUTTING US BEFORE MONEY*

That’s it. I’m officially changing my diet. I’m such a massive fan of fatty food but I can’t go around complaining about my acne whilst eating awfully. Change is coming 🙏🏻
What happened?

How is your acne now? Andy tips?
Whey Protein also caused me to break out, so for those of you who take whey protein consider switching to vegan protein!
True.
due to my body type it make me fat.
@Kristy Kelly Prana is my go to. If I remember the store I was in explained they don't rely on one source of vegan protein, like some will only have pea protein while this one has both pea and rice
Me too!
I think whey protein triggered my adult acne breakout. 2 years later and I'm still dealing with acne snd hyperpigmentation
I asked my current dermatologist, if dairy triggers pimples/acne, she said NO and that’s just a misconception of people. And not to wear sunscreen and moisturizer because acne prone skin hates sunscreen. AND BCOS OF THAT I’M NOT COMING BACK
Sam Dioneda 😱
your dermatologist is a dumb bitch
WOAH that's something... I wanna investigate that and see if there's any truth but honestly she probably is just trying to sabotage her clients so they keep needing her service. Yikes!
I had a wacky dermatologist when I was a teenager, too! I'm in Canada where I thought they were regulated as much as any other type of medical doctor... what's up with that?
Phuong You do realize people a lot of times start “doing more to their skin” because they are experiencing skin issues, right?
We are all different. Dairy CAN cause acne in people, whether it is due to hormones in the milk or due to an intolerance... It is very important to understand your own body. I have had DNA testing done a few years ago and my genetics tell me, for example, my body does not break down caffeine as well as some other people might. I have always struggled with drinking coffee and have finally quit. Does that mean no one can drink coffee? Of course not. But when it CAN be problematic for people, you need to be aware and find out for yourself what works for you and what does not. A doctor, like her dermatologist, should be aware of the evidence around dairy consumption and maybe word this differently to her patients. There are many things that could cause acne in a person and it will be different for everyone. Some things will be more likely to cause acne than other things. Personally, I have noticed dairy consumption makes my skin worse, but elimination of dairy from my diet will not clear my skin up entirely.
I'm 27 (female), when I was about 20 I changed my diet for the first time, trying to clear my acne, it wasn't that bad but I cared a lot about my skin.. it was really helpful. I now have adult/hormonal acne... My breakouts ceased when I started to workout daily, meditate, and follow more or less the diet you suggested. I use nice skin products, but whenever I do all the things I just mentioned, even if I don't use the products, I don't breakout. Diet and excercise help me a lot. It's amazing. Thank you for your videos! We need more doctors like you.
Awesome :)
Please tell that diet tips
Exercise does work to some extent . I need to work on this so bad ! It helps your stress hormones and to move those waste
My acne issues started in my 20s and I tried antibiotics, birth control pills that help remove acne, chemical peels etc. acne went away but as soon as I stopped it came back. I used to love meat such as bacon, beef, burgers and so on but decided to become vegetarian and also cut out sugar, wheat and processed food and started to do cardio and weight training. My skin cleared up after around 3 months and became flawless and less oily. I eat mostly vegan now and I do get some pimples when I eat sugar or junk food but they are pretty small and go away when I get back on track.
You eat 3 rounds of vegetable per Day? And what vegetable?
What does a day of eating look like for you, i need some inspo
What’s your skin type?
@@gixi430 Sorry for a late response, I don't really track how much veggies I eat in a day. But I always have stuff like mixed leafy greens (mache, mangold, spinach, arugula etc) also tomatoes, cucumber, olives. I like spinach and green kale smoothies with some mango in it as well and mix all with water not plant based milk. Working out and sweating also helped me =)
@@tasneemamin7420 I get pretty oily in my T-zone and dry at the same time so combined I would say. But my acne was the worst around my chin and forehead. If I eat junk food I still do get pimples on my forehead and a bit under my lips.

As someone who has worked in dermatology for over 4 years... as a Physician Assistant, you’re the first MD I have found who literally thinks exactly like I do. I love that you aren’t just trying to sell and you genuinely want to help people. I also love lasers and just procedural medicine in general. Lastly the link between and diet is huge, I used to have this talk with all of my patients during their first visit. It’s hard to make changes initially but after awhile your body looks and feels better after eating better. Plus less money wasted on topicals, etc. it’s all intertwined. Another huge trigger is stress- mediation can reduce levels of stress even if just 5 min a day. Your life doesn’t have to be acne all of the time! He’s a great MD! Glad to see good guys out there!
So many acne triggering foods it’s overwhelming. I am someone who exercises a lot, this is going to be hard to do; lots of calories cut 😕
Me too. I work out and need carbs because i dont want to loose weight
Same. I love bread and now we have to cut it. Why are genetics like this😔
corn salad I know it’s such a drag!! Mine definitely seems to be affected by dairy. I can get away with one small serving every day or two, but more than that I can expect a new pimple. 😐 it’s hard because sometimes I think I crave the calcium.
@@ninapagonakis4628 i used to consume a lot of milk but i recently switched to soy milk and it has calcium in it and the same amount of protein as the cow milk i consumed before so there are options!
Chelsea G Agreed! I’ve switched to soy milk, which I love, but I do find myself craving Greek yogurt, cream cheese, and cottage cheese from time to time. The non dairy alternatives on those are just not as good 😑
Very informative ! My current dermatologist actually told me that acne has nothing to do with diet!! I do not believe that because i always experience breakouts when i have sugary foods ! But i do agree that acne can not be pin pointed towards one issue. Even when i eat really clean sometimes i tend to breakout either cause of stress , maybe the climate change , sweat , hormones and who knows !! I guess that is what makes it so hard to treat acne !

You need to cut back on sugar and sleep good. 8 hours a night if you can. Stressing out is horrible too so dont do that. I'm no dermatologist but cutting out sugar, sleeping more and stressing less significantly improved my skin
You know what you’re talking about. I’ve had Dermatologists just throw topical creams at me. God bless you!
It's so frustrating as growing up it was drilled into me that milk was good for me.

pageantgrosvenor my mum use to hit me over the head if I didn’t finish my glass of milk 😂 🥛
I use to vomit. At about 7 years old she realised I wasted pretending and stopped making me drink it
Daniella your body knew it was not good for you.
still nothing wrong with milk. better if its grass fed, but i will never give it up regardless. in my opinion the problem is the sugar/lactose that people have lost the ability to digest and have inflammatory reaction to. if you lile the taste of milk you can still have up to about a cup a day without problems, even if you are lactose intolerant. unless you have some ultra sensitivity or allergy
Dairy causes me to break out so bad.
Removing that alone made the biggest difference to my acne in 12 years of having it.
So glad you mentioned that about Pacific Islanders! Got so sick of doctors telling me diet had nothing to do with my acne but decided to quit dairy and it actually helped!

Great advice! You rarely hear acne linked to diet. I realized it after I fasted twice and noticed my skin was clearer. I always say if you notice you're breaking out start then thinking about what foods have you've been consuming or think of any bad habits you have had. Make a list and start eliminating or changing certain habits.
yes, true it is
When I was doing Keto (20g a day) and intermittent fasting, my hormonal acne didn't happen before my period.
I did it for a month.. When I increased my carbs to 50g I got my acne back.
He's speaking the truth. Thanks for recognizing that food affects acne. I've been to many derms and they say there's no correlation between food and acne.
hi do you know if the beans cause acne.
So refreshing to hear a medical professional taking a holistic view. My Dr prescribed I go dairy, sugar and grain free to fix my gut issues, seven weeks into the program and my skin has never looked better. Diet changes are so hard, esp because there is sugar in literally everything processed these days, but now I am seeing the benefits I am so pleased I didn't give up! Thank you Dr Davin! Love the awesome advice.
Hello! What did you substitute grains for? Or you were low carb?
@@lilkira5579 low carb. I also cut out starchy vegetables like potato and corn as well as all fruit. No coffee either 😭 and very limited amounts of and types of fats. It was a very extreme restrictive diet to deal with SIBO and IBS symptoms. I had been extremely ill with gastroenteritis which brought on my IBS symptoms. It was very very hard and required a lot of planning and fortitude. Also very hard to stick to, sadly I dropped it after about 6 months and my skin went back to the way it had been beforehand 😓 Currently taking Isotretinoin and I wish I had done it in my teens. I hardly recognise myself with a clear face!

Thank you Dr Davin, for sharing your knowledge for free with so many people who need help but can't to afford to see a dermatologist. We love you!
I don't drink milk but can get pimples on my scalp after eating sweets. My dermatologists back in the day would say its not related to diet but I would get a break out soon after (hours) eating sweets. I'm glad you provided information to read about facts and myths about acne. I prefer watching on YT since I never go on instragram. Thanks much.
Thank you Dr Davin Lim, I have a lot of respect for you. When I was in my teens, I didn't have cystic acne but lots of little pimples on my face and chest. Doctors would say that my diet didn't play any part. Now that I look back, it was absolute BS (or they had little idea)
As I've gotten older, I eat a lot healthier and eat VERY little sugar. Immediately once I have a bite of dessert or something sugary, the next day I will wake up with slightly irritated and red skin. Then pimples will follow. About a month ago, every night I would eat a little cup full of this amazing ice cream, I'm not kidding you, I had these random gigantic ugly pimples. Personally, milk and fatty foods don't affect me as much but sugar is a killer for me.
This doesn't mean you have to become a bloody vegan but diet changes can make a HUGE difference in your skin along with good skincare, medical grade creams and lasers. F everything else.
I developed acne as a vegan. High carb diet(including natural sugars) completely destroyed my skin. It does vary from person to person.
i had the same experience too. too many carbs and sugars in general. been a week on a keto diet, low carb high fat, and for the first time.in 20 years i feel like i actually have sole control over my skin now. plus my fat is turning to muscle, not constantly hungry and bloating ive had for years is gone. my blood sugar is also normal
THIS 👏 RIGHT 👏 HERE. I had the same issue, though not vegan, I eat very clean and organic, but I found out that a lot of the things I was eating were very high glycemic index and were essentially spiking my sugars and causing the hormone cascade. Things like dried fruits, whole grains, and even a lot of the whole grain substitutes, such as bean pasta. When I learned about this, and went back and checked on a lot of my favorite foods, I was shocked! Just one serving of the bean pasta I was scarfing down (typically eating what was technically two servings at a time) had 63 g of carbohydrates!! 🤦
@@Poeticdyme , Sugar/refined carbs were your problem, not complex carbs.
Hannah Foroutan it’s all about the glycemic index. Anything that spikes your insulin ups your androgen levels producing more and thicker sebum, thus clogging pores and causing acne.
After researching which foods are high glycemic index foods and avoiding them as much as possible, along with dairy, and incorporating more fermented foods my skin has done a 180! Hope you can find improvement!
Same for me and that's why paleo diet saved me. It's low in carbs and there is no diary or gluten.
Thanks you!!
My niece was suffering from acne, her face was full of acne , I was very sorry for her but someone told her that if she changed her diet to make veganism her skin would get better and better. Now her face is clean. After 2 years her face has been cleansed and no more acne.
He’s right!!!!! My body has changed so much since I turned 24 through trial and error I have found my trigger foods
All I eat is lean meats, beans, veggies, fruits, gluten free grains
I cut out gluten,dairy,sugar,peanuts,eggs,soy,refined carbs,white potatoes,processed
I stuck with Whole Foods and I make simple meals it helps a lot !!! My skin cleared up and I’m glad dermatologist like him That are getting to the root cause

I love the fact that you're really upfront with the information you provide and outspoken about how most dermatologist are really just writing scripts and don't take the time to really hear how you're struggling with acne. I've been dealing with hormonal acne since 19 and have tried possibly everything they have prescribed and never have they spoke to me about DIET!
Thank you Dr Lim. I know you’ve got so many thanks for this video already, but I really wanna say BIG thanks one more time. Since I changed my food habits, my skin has cleared and looks younger.

There's definitely a reason to why I came across this video on TH-cam: th-cam.com/users/Jyovis of Jyovis Ayurveda and I was very happy to see the results. I even followed few of the tips explained and it actually worked. Then I finally decided to contact on ...... (+91 7208189103) to cure my Problem from the root cause. The team really helped me a lot. Thank you Jyovis!
honestly my fav dermatologist on TH-cam! *subscribed*
Kindly appreciated, Davin Lim
I’m not entirely certain but I think dairy effects my psoriasis too.
Since going vegan. (Sorry to mention the V word, don’t come for me. 😂)
My skin has never been better!
Really? My brother initially went on a carnivore diet to lose weight. He only ate meat. (Sometimes eggs) after a month or two, he noticed his skin clear up. 🤨
I stopped having lots of meat, no dairy and NO WHEAT🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 game changer🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽- mostly dairy and wheat though
Thank you so much
A person suffering from acne sending you loads of love. More power to you.
You are soooo helpful :)

I love your honesty. I have visited 4 dermatologists and they never spoke about diet.
Aww..finally my favorite handsome Dr is here😍😍😍
Hi! During quarantine days, I actually discovered this myself when I started living a healthy life. I wish someone told me this sooner. Imagine how selfish people are but thank you, you are not one of them!
I've had acne for so long that sometimes I don't even care about them anymore. I only get triggered to be insecure about them when some rude people point them out as if it is a disease.
I hate when people say
“You have acne”
Like am I supposed to act surprised and be like, I do???

One of the most intelligent dermatologist I’ve ever have listed to !! Thank you sooo much for sharing the real picture and highlight the balance and “whole picture” in life ! All the components matter 🙏🏼
Thank you so much Dr. Davin Lim for the presentation! I also love how you bring the main points and simplify the deeper science as well.

You are great Dr Lim, thank you so much. I have been researching for my 15 year old son who broke out 3 months exactly after a bad tibia fracture which left him unable to do all the sports he was used to doing for months. Saw a dermatologist and came out feeling very deflated. I was convinced that my son’s broken leg was part of the cause of the acme due to stress and cortisol (he was in a lot of pain and then the frustration of being inactive). The dermatologist saw us for 15 minutes max, said it was nothing to do with the broken leg, diet had little or no impact and then prescribed antibiotics saying glibly that it is unlikely work and you’ll have to go on accutane as he is getting scarring yet did not mention how to help with scarring or what could be done to help later. A very deflating and demoralising experience. Thank goodness for people like you, sharing experience and knowledge to genuinely help others. 😊
Thank you for addressing my question on this a while ago. Glad you did a whole video on it! 😊

Watching your videos really gives me the urge and motivation to study dermatology. I never really knew how interesting this field was until I came across your videos last week. What's even better is that now I do not feel guilty about procrastinating on youtube since your videos are highly educational :)
I love your content !!! I started fasting and taking care of my gut health and my skin is clear for the first time in years. I also cut lactose and sugar. :)
TH-cam is the best platform. Thank you for these educational video's.
Yes
I’m a Māori with asthma, hay fever and eczema. I recently changed my asthma preventer from serotide to montuklast. Within 1 month my adult acne significantly reduced, I had been suffering cystic acne for years. Just some thing I’ve observed perhaps you might have noticed a correlation in your patients as well.
You mean the seretide? I have been taking that too. And my acne has been so bad.
Tiffany Mae Relloso yes! That is the one that ruined my skin
I went on a keto diet for a week and it did wonders for my taste pallate! I truly didn't realise how desensitised my tastebuds to sugar were. The sugar withdrawal was a definite hurdle e.g. headaches, dizziness etc. My skin looks even brighter!
Indeed.
Brilliant! Im def sharing this with ones i know are battling Acne. My younger sister who is 38, never had acne as a teenager but is dealing with it now. Im passing this on, thank you.
Cheers for sharing. Davin Lim
I heard over the past 40 years don't worry about what you eat food won't cause acme this is life changing.
Thank you!
You are gorgeous! Let me see the video again because I didn't focus 🤣🤣🤣
😆!!!
Telling it as it is. Truth is sometimes simple but it doesn’t sell, hence gets buried under the mass of products that promise so much (and costs as much). Thanks for speaking the truth.
There is nothing worse when you have a social event, date or something important to attend to and everyday is basically just stressing yourself out. Making sure your skin doesn’t break out before that day! 😭 then it gets worse because you’re stressing out more!
I cut out sugar from my diet for a week and let me tell you idk how my skin was never lookin better.😊
My dermatologist just gives me more and more antibiotics. At this point I’ve been on antibiotics for years. I am definitely going to try your nutritional hints. Thank you so much.
That’s really rough on your gut biome. I’d recommend reading up on antibiotics in relation to good gut bacteria and try rebuilding it back up.
I hope you’ve seen some improvement since this video came out!
Hailey Bell I have actually 😃thank you
did it work??
Thank you so much forproviding information behind some of the treatments to these conditions. I cannot express how frustrating it is to go to specialist after specialist but they give you no information to enable you to make intelligent decisions broadly, but just give you a prescription that could be potentially bad for you. Appreciate you work!
Oh damn I’ve never seen that kind of acne at 4:11
I know! That makes me think wtf!!!!
I was like THAT IS NOT ACNE 😱
Same I was not ready to see that
Definetly wish I didnt see it

Thank you for doing this!!! So sick and tired of the lies about acne and diet. I drank milk , ate cheese, and ate yogurt/kefir like a fiend as an adult and couldn’t understand why my acne just kept getting worse. Within months of giving up dairy my cystic acne went away. Then using Neostrata (heard about it from you) took away my tiny white heads and blackheads. My skin is wonderful now and I rarely have a break out.
I’m Filipino so I’m always glad that what my family tells me is right. Yes we have lots of acne in our genes but they tell me it’s bad to eat lots of sweets and I should eat more healthy. I eat a lot of preservatives too so I guess I should stop that. Maybe fruits veggies rice and bit of meat a day with lots of water? Haven’t tried it yet so I’ll try it
After 5 years of an elimination diet here's a list of foods that gave me bad acne: Potatoes, corn, refined sugar, dairy, soy, rice, quinoa, seed oils, wheat, anything deep fried, sesame seeds, pineapple, coconut, and stress. Hope this helps.
I was cooking with coconut oil and I think it was causing inflammation horribly
Girl what- those are all the foods I love 😭 so unfair
It's 1am and I'm learning so much about pimples 😬
ty for the recommendation yt
1. refined foods
2. dairy
3. zinc is good
Evidence based medicine. Straight facts, no cheddar!
After years and years of trying every product possible and being put on antibiotics by derms, going mostly dairy free, eating more plant based and taking a probiotic everyday has practically cured my acne. Now I have to deal with all the scarring 😩
in my adult years already and still have acne. this problem never went away, i have to manage my diet to not trigger it. it's so tiring.
What foods do you avoid?
I would actually love a 45 minute video as long as it's dense with information
So I cut off sugar last December and my skin was at it's best (according to friends) but I slowly started coming back to That phase. Right now I've been eating instant noodles, and cheese a lot. So uh. Yeah. RIP to that... 🥺
I just stick to eating many many sweet potatoes and some sort of meat for every meal and drinking water until my acne goes away. it works for me. It took me like 4-6 weeks.🤷🏻♀️
I will use Weedborn CBD products this time :)
For 6 straight weeks, I changed my diet to only sardines, salmon, water, and fruits. That's literally the only thing I ate, believe it or not.. my acne changed dramatically. It got so much better. Trust me when I say this. Eat a lot of omega 3 fatty acids.. cut down on the dairy, carbs and sodium. I also take fish oil with my accutane to help with my daily epa intake. Diet has a connection guys!!
Hah one dermatologist I went to said diet has nothing to do with skin condition.
J Mac nice.to hear I am convinced my Seb Hyperplasia was cause by dairy and eggs.
J MacThe second dermatologist was more open to this view. I have acne mainly on my back and he thought they were infected hair follicles. With my digestion issues he thought Roaccutane was not a good idea.
J Mac I have found zinc does help, did my ace gets worse if I get tired and worn down.
J Mac thank you. 👍
It really depends on the person, I think. For me, I can literally drink soda all day and will have no break out but when I eat even just one ice cream bar, the next day I will break out.
There’s a lot of interesting connections with the gut and other systems. A lot of the neurology-gut microbiome research is fascinating. Great video!
Finally Dr Davin Lim have set up an Instagram acct. The only reason is to follow you. Your info is so honest just like Dr Dray. You two should do a collaboration.
The Acne Cure book isn’t a diet book. It teaches a ‘program’ to follow using Salicylic Acid, Glycolic, BP, ice/cold and whatever else. Talks about the different types of acne, etc. Educational enough for the typical acne sufferer who doesn’t have an understanding of acne and skincare.
Thank you Mr. handsome doctor for this! I was about to book an appt with a dermatologist. I will try this first ☺️💕
Angie Delgado how is it going so far?
Finally it seems like i found a real dermatologist and i saying this because most of the doctors promise to the people "their products" making miracles for acnee just because they wanna do bussines than to help for real.
Guys stop believe in their stories here's is a real doctors who already said that.
Man good bless you for hard work and we all thank you for being so honest with us.
In this life not only the money matters we are human being at the end and nothing it's coming with us after we pass away belive me.
The only thing what truly matter is to be respectuos with the others to help others people without benefits taking and after we leave this world peoples to remembering in their minds we were good people that's the only thing important.
Bless you all !
Thank you! I’m so sick of my dermatologist trying to shove pills down my throat for my acne. I think I can manage it through other means. I already don’t eat dairy or many refined foods, but I need to work on reducing my sugar intake. I used to take zinc but haven’t been able to get a hold of it during the pandemic. Need to keep digging for it
More and more this makes sense to me! I really didn’t have the cases that can be seen related to accutane, I had recurring pimples that hurt but maybe 5 or 6. I went to a dermatologist and she prescribed accutane right off the bat. I thought it was a bit much since I hadn’t tried anything else before.
I had pimples when I was a teenager.Although they were never really deep and painful, I went to a dermatologist because they were bothering me. She gave me Roaccutane (pills) and I was inspired enough to read the prospect before taking them. That thing scared me so badly that I never took them and, needless to say, never visited her again.
Literally every drug has some terrible side effects, even something as innocent as ibuprofen!
@@dearbrothers7580 Of course all drugs have side effects and you always compare the costs and benefits. However, your comparison is not fair because the side effects of Roaccutane are more severe than those of Ibuprofen (e.g. irritation and dry skin vs. stomach pain for 1 in 10 people, respectively). There's a reason why I can get Ibuprofen without a prescription but not Roaccutane. For me, these costs outweighed the benefit of clearing my occasional pimples. The dermatologist should have known better than directly prescribing me such a strong treatment without trying any other topical treatment in advance.
Laura F. Yeah I agree with you there, accutane should never be the 1st option to mild-moderate acne. I guess for people with severe acne the benefits outweigh the costs.
Dr. Davin Lim; The only reliable Dermatologist I know of.
I'm convinced that the reason why so many other dermatologists tell people that acne is not connected to diet is that if people figured out that it was, dermatologists would lose their jobs lol.
Thats why I hate them
I told my dermatologist that dairy makes my skin horrible and she told me no…keep drinking, _miLk iS gOoD fOR yoU_
This is exactly what I have been looking for!!! I have been avoiding going to a derm because lots of fellow acne sufferers I have spoke to have said they went and were given topical or medication. I just know that I need to get to the root cause, not just treat the symptom.
Thank you! I'm going to try these things. If I don't have much improvement I will be giving you a call
Dr. Sexy is back!
Rafa Fan chill out, he ain’t sexy haha
IMD he's gorgeous lol
Finally a dermatologist who accepts it! You should do skype consultations 😩
Thank you so much for sharing this invaluable knowledge. I struggled with cystic acne for years and convinced that the issue was from within, I eliminated lactose from my diet and all my acne disappeared. Humans aren't designed to digest lactose, and especially women as the hormones present in mass-produced milk interfere and disrupt our endocrine system, thus producing acne. My brain fog, bloating, IBS symptoms and acne has completely gone since I kicked dairy to the curb... Almond or oat milk serves as a great substitute for it too.
Dr Davin, please put the one minute videos on your TH-cam channel.
Cant do that.. TH-cam will hit me... must be 4-5 min at minimum, takes so much effort to upload on YT
