Here‘s the summary: 1. Clothes in the wrong size 2. Overly expensive basic pieces 3. Impractical handbags 4. Anything beyond budget 5. Painful Shoes 6. Dry-Clean-Only Summer Pieces 7. Pay just for the logo 8. Huge Collection of Special Occasion Pieces 9. Anything itchy
Few years ago I bought a 10€ beautiful red evening dress at a thrift shop. I never got the chance to wear it. One day my husband bought a tuxedo and we decided to go to an average restaurant wearing these clothes because we had no idea of when and where we could wear them. People looked at us a bit weirdly but we have incredible memories of that 50€ restaurant wearing evening attire. I know not everyone would feel comfortable doing this kind of things but it’s really worth it if you’re hesitating. We only live once, why not have fun a little?
What i regret in the past was any shirt polyester or mix...very bad in hot weather...i choose 100% cotton ☁️🤍 And yes, loafers are not made for long distance walking ...pumps have more cushion for heels🪷
I love a good loafer, but lately, I’ve been finding myself in slip-on Skechers for errands. Nothing fancy, but the colors are cute, and my feet are grateful!😂
Agreed with all of these points - especially shoes that hurt and pieces that are too small or too big. I bought 2 beautiful Kate Spade dresses that were too tight - pushed them to the back of my closet and forgot about them. After a 2 year weight loss journey I remembered them - yayy....nooooo....I'd managed to sail past the weight that would have been the perfect fit and they were way too big. Sold them for pennies on the dollar to a consignment store 😭 Like Eileen said, dress for the body you have now for the least regrets!
Agree. I only have pants and jackets tailored for length since I am short. If you look at a dress and think if only... Then don't waste time and money. Just buy the item thats properly fitted from the start.
Love your videos Eileen.Thank you .I am 75 and enjoyed this video because we all need reminding.I am in the process of passing on 3 lovely bags which have proven to be totally impractical for my lifestyle. I have also recently "culled"my scarf collection. Too many ! It is so easy to get carried away with beautiful things.
I agree, these are things I try to avoid as well. I also think, buying something you like but don't have anything else in your wardrobe to go with it. When I was in my early 20's I bought an electric blue blazer, it was cropped and so pretty. I was like, i'll wear this to work with black slacks but I didn't have the right shirt to go under it. I didn't wear it for 2 years because I just couldn't find a shirt that looked right with it. Then after wearing it I changed jobs and although I still worked in an office I didn't need to wear blazers and I never wore it again. I felt guilty every time I looked at it in my closet. About 2 years later I ended up donating it because it wasn't in style anymore and I had changed jobs again and the dress code was even more laxed so I knew I wasn't going to wear it.
Very good points, I agree. Thank you! 👍 A while ago I was looking for a new handbag and couldn’t decide between two. Both leather, both more expensive than I usually buy, but I wanted to invest. The choice became simple when I realized that with one of them, I was basically paying for the logo and not much else. I went with the other one. Saved some money and now I have a wonderful bag that I’m very happy with.
Could you share where your beautiful trench coat is from that you wore at the beginning of the video? Thank you so much, great tips! Thanks for sharing
I couldn’t agree with you more. I prefer natural fabric all the way. It is becoming harder and harder to find all-natural fabric, never mind reasonable prices. Natural fabrics are the best for your body to wear. I agree with all you said. What you said should be put on billboards, you spoke the truth.
I sold shoes for over a decade and I'm surprised that someone would actually think a pair of designer loafers should be as comfortable as a pair of trainers for distance walking! They were designed for completely different purposes! A ballgown costs more than a Speedo. Would you be surprised it was not comfortable to swim in? Any thin soled loafer is meant for a short walk between desks or a walk from your desk to your car.........
And that's exactly why I've never liked wearing either loafers or ballet flats. Who wants to wear a shoe you can't actually walk around in (ie not just "to your car").
Hi Eileen. Totally agree with everything. I grab cotton jumpers most often as I have a wool allergy. Cashmere can make me itch. Ironically I can wear alpaca as I don't react to it. I like what you said about shoes. Flat is not always synonymous with comfort. I cannot wear ballet flats because of my foot shape but it is always touted as the shoe everyone can wear.
I love your channel! You’ve become one of my favorite TH-camrs! ❤ Its so interesting to me as a Gen X /55 year old to see the quality of everything decreasing while the prices go up. I still own pieces from the late 80’s/early 90’s I got at trendy shops in the mall back then that cost $20-30 (which seemed like a lot as a teenager) but have held up and stand the test of time. If I’m going to spend a big chunk of money these days, I prefer to purchase from a small, independent artist who makes something unique that 500,000 other people aren’t going to own. Otherwise I buy my basics at thrift stores and have a collection of cashmere and silk that I’m so proud of curating for almost nothing! Our styles are completely different, but your message is appreciated and I wholly agree. Xo❤️
Yes I agree, we have the privilege to do shopping in our cities, at least we should buy what fits us well , good materials, aware by whom they are made. This way we can enjoy and have no regrets😊
I was nodding throughout your video, Eileen! In the past, I've bought things that didn't fit right, things just for the logo, and more itchy sweaters than I care to remember. I'm past all that now and appreciate your helpful tips as I continue to develop a wardrobe I love and can use!
Great advice as always. I would also like to add one point and that are super trendy pieces. Maybe one or two trendy shirts per year maximum, but when I see women buying dozens of trendy, usually very low quality, pieces on a monthly basis I really cannot understand need for that.
You have such common sense and great advice. Thank you. If I may recommend a very comfortable shoe company and that is the SAS company. I have worn their shoes for the last 24 years and I can walk all day long in a pair of their Shoes called Maria’s.
Thanks for the advice. The only thing is that good alpaca is not itchy, it might have been combine with LLAMA. I I have several 100% alpaca item, they don’t itch at all
I agree! And I’ll add, if an item is too heavy don’t buy it because it’s so tiring to wear it. And personally as much natural fiber as possible. No more 100% polyester clothes!
Also if you’re keeping clothes in your closet that are small for you declutter them now. They will also make you feel guilty and if or when you lose the weight treat yourself to some new clothes. I was keeping clothes that I don’t even like anymore. It wasn’t until I did a whole closet declutter did I find them and wonder why I was keeping them.😂
Agree with everything she says but all the bags she is holding are premium luxury bags. I am fine with my fabric bags or Longchamps bag. Hermes bag in cow skin is durable but so heavy to carry when I am walking around.
Shoes should always be quality and should not hurt. They are the foundation and support of your whole body. It’s very hard to find good shoes at any price.
No argument from me about what you've said. I buy the best that I can afford and evaluate the quality before buying. Quality isn't always the expensive pieces. Keeping an open mind is essential too. I often shop thrift stores and consignment shops and find some real gems. My black chino pants are 70% cotton blend that has some stretch. They are also men's pants. Cost me $16 a pair at Walmart and after four years of wear, still look very nice and hardly worn. The fabric is also thicker than the women's chinos. About 70% of my clothes are made by me. I spend a lot of time planning each garment and save up for high quality natural fiber fabrics. Compared to cheap fast fashion, I don't save any money. Compared to mid-range and luxury ready to wear, I save a lot of money. A button down shirt may cost me $25 to sew it but I know that it is of superior quality construction as I sew using haute techniques. Most are 7-12 years old with near weekly laundering and are hardly worn. In the US, there is a brand of shoes called Naturalizer. They are extremely comfortable and I can easily walk all day long in 3 inch heels. They also last a long time as well. I avoid things with conspicuous logos. My handbags come from small leather craftsmen and are made to last for years. I do wash dry cleaned clothes in the gentle cycle with Woolite to avoid dry cleaners. My look depends on what accessories that I use. Clothes can be dressed up or down in a big way. Now if I could get my mother and her family to stop pushing the Asian Grandma look on me...
I just cannot wear cashmere, wool, or any heavy material..I get too overheated then under then over…and I’m not menopausal! I wish I could as I love cashmere.
Some rich people buy expensive bags but still think of them as unimportant and meaningless things. Just because you bought it doesn't mean you have to give it some artificial importance or false meaning *condup*
adding to the wrong size; ill fitting clothing in general is a no-no. Imagine you have to tug and drape your outfit all day long 😩 very annoying and avoidable
Actually the more expensive the cashmere the kinder to the animal kingdom. When cashmere isn’t expensive, the goats are being shedded like it’s going out of style in a very rudimentary matter. For expensive cashmere only a certain part of the gold is shedded and not as often. I’m in the fashion industry and we do pay attention to that now.
Agree on so many of your points. The idea of buying something expensive to impress someone is so prevalent! My friend’s daughter paid $600 for a pair of heels that were on sale to impress people at a party! So crazy, especially because they were actually too small and she wore them once! I’m guessing the only way she left an impression was due to the fact that she sat on a sofa with her shoes off through most of the party!
While cashmere is a very good material, the only way of acquiring it is by cruelty to goats. As soon as I heard this I promised I would never buy cashmere. Just an FYI for those who care.
I think people are out of touch with the cost of actual good quality clothes made from good materials. 200$ for e.g. a full cashmere sweater that you wear for years isn't really horrendous. Good materials have a base price.
Who else agrees that Elieen is one of the sweetest youtuber ever🥹🥹💗
I do! She is wonderful!
100% !! My absolute favourite
She is a fine example of Elegance, honesty and humility 💎
Agreed!
She is so sweet , calm well spoken and extremely smart

I love that! Who said 'you can never be overdressed' ? Well, I think one can, but it's fun to be better dressed than the usual.

I 100% agree. I enjoy opening my closet and choosing without any questions asked and know that I will feel comfortable!

Yes! It might sound boring, but I always tell myself this: buy what you wear.

You are an absolutely wonderful lady. Your tips resonate with me and make good sense. Thank you.

Oh, i can't wear wool and cashmere either, so now I am intrigued about alpaca :)
I agree with everything especially the special occasion dresses. I just have a skirt that I can wear with almost anything in my wardrobe.

Hello Eileen 👋 I’m only up to #4 and you are absolutely correct 😂😂😂 I’ve learned the hard way 😅
Yes I agree, we have the privilege to do shopping in our cities, at least we should buy what fits us well , good materials, aware by whom they are made. This way we can enjoy and have no regrets😊
Great advice!
Agree. You are very right about this topic.
I can’t wear wool except merino. I don’t have any uncomfortable shoes and only one dress, I wear jeans every day so my wardrobe is now very simple
I was nodding throughout your video, Eileen! In the past, I've bought things that didn't fit right, things just for the logo, and more itchy sweaters than I care to remember. I'm past all that now and appreciate your helpful tips as I continue to develop a wardrobe I love and can use!
Congratulations on 60k plus subs. Two things my Mum taught me:
Linen is the only acceptable crush
Labels belong on the inside of your clothing
I think number 10 would be buying the hype item of the moment. More than not we only want it because we got sucked into the frenzy.
Very good point.
Great advice as always. I would also like to add one point and that are super trendy pieces. Maybe one or two trendy shirts per year maximum, but when I see women buying dozens of trendy, usually very low quality, pieces on a monthly basis I really cannot understand need for that.
Beautiful bag. 😍 love it.
I love your videos! ❤ Could you make a video with you jackets? They look so special. 😊
You have such common sense and great advice. Thank you. If I may recommend a very comfortable shoe company and that is the SAS company. I have worn their shoes for the last 24 years and I can walk all day long in a pair of their Shoes called Maria’s.
Buying high end clothing in the sale is great
That’s what I do
I agree with all your points. Big logos on basic items are sad, i think.
Thanks for the advice. The only thing is that good alpaca is not itchy, it might have been combine with LLAMA. I
I have several 100% alpaca item, they don’t itch at all
Great video! Totally agree with you, Eileen. Thanks ❤
100% agree with you. I have made most of those mistakes in the past.
New subscriber! I just found you by chance today...so glad I did! Thank you for the wise tips.
Thank you xx
well said, Eileen! I've stopped the Hermes games for awhile.
Good sense all over the video! I’m glad to notice how your thoughts are alike mine. Hugs from your new Brazilian follower. 🇧🇷😊
Very good. I think the logo stuff is really tacky. The last thing I would want is someone looking at my brands. You have a lovely sense of style.
Very wise and practical advice as always.
Thank you for this lovely video 😊. Where do you buy your anti wrinkle silk, please 🌸?
I agree!
And I’ll add, if an item is too heavy don’t buy it because it’s so tiring to wear it.
And personally as much natural fiber as possible. No more 100% polyester clothes!
My mom bought one kkuwan and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
Thank you Eillen for sharing!❤ I always look up to you whenever I’m buying new items in my wardrobe!❤❤❤
Those were great tips! Enjoyed this video.
I love your videos! Thank you for your creation.
Could you show your collection of dresses and tell us the brand? Especially for Summer. Thanks! 🌷
Agree my todds loafers lasted years and years. Actually wore them out. Worth the money but was 10 years ago
Tods are so comfortable ❤
he variety of textures in the kkuwan pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
All of these are good guidelines- though some may need a tweak here and there. 😊
Totally agree...
Thank you...
Also if you’re keeping clothes in your closet that are small for you declutter them now. They will also make you feel guilty and if or when you lose the weight treat yourself to some new clothes. 100% agree with everything.
Just come across your channel, I have subscribed really enjoyed it thank you
Awesome, thank you!xx
To be honest, sometimes some shoes just a need a bit time for adjust 😢😢 trainers as well, my feet never fit in my shoes for the first few wore…
Beautiful background music ❤👌🏾
I love your dressing room!
Excellent list ❤
Cashmere does come in different qualities. Need to look for garments with long strand fibres. They last way longer and don't bobble.
I agree!
I agree with u on all of these. ❤
Love you ! Honestly it’s the best policy ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your tips.

I always say "life is to short to wear uncomfortable clothes and/or shoes!"
Thank you
eileen is the luxury minimalist that cautlyn palowski could never be. there i said it
I am guilty of prada hairclip 😂❤
I just cannot wear cashmere, wool, or any heavy material..I get too overheated then under then over…and I’m not menopausal! I wish I could as I love cashmere.
I agree with everything!!! You are so rational 😊 thank you!!!
I would add not buying so much black. Put some light and brightness in your garments. They decorate your body. Don't shortchange it.
❤❤❤❤
Don’t buy something overly luxurious otherwise you might feel a bit anxious and protective?… What were you holding when you said that ??
Some rich people buy expensive bags but still think of them as unimportant and meaningless things. Just because you bought it doesn't mean you have to give it some artificial importance or false meaning *condup*

You wise woman
Regardless of how well an item looks on me, if it is the LEAST bit itchy or uncomfortable, I will not buy it.
Agree xx
NEVER buy ripped jeans!
I just don't buy "designer" pieces. The logo means nothing to me. I don't care what people think. I wear what I like and good fabrics only. 😊
Special occasion clothes to 10-20% of wardrobe? You must have a lot of events to attend. Mine equals 1% and “it’s” rarely worn.
Agree on so many of your points. The idea of buying something expensive to impress someone is so prevalent! You might be on the wrong channel then. The handbags and shoes have leather and the jewelry is mined. This channel is a luxury minimalist theme.
Bags are to carry staff Should not be ever considered “ accessory “
i’m sorry but you lost me when you said $200 for a sweater when explaining not over paying for basic items 😅
I think people are out of touch with the cost of actual good quality clothes made from good materials. 200$ for e.g. a full cashmere sweater that you wear for years isn't really horrendous.
Good materials have a base price.
Cashmere is cruel. They are abused, treated violently 😢😢😢no. Choose kindness
SAVE THOUSANDS: buy quality knockoffs
Mi a?etis al mia nevino sakon por ?ia naski?tago ?e *yutulux* kaj ?i amas ?in. Mi mem a?etos unu!
Great advice!
