ABOUT A TO ZEN LIFE
Along my journey to let go of 30 years of clutter, I accidentally became a minimalist and it was life-changing.
Before, I was an emotional hoarder with nothing but the clutter from lost loved ones - and $25,000 of debt - to my name. Now I have a beautiful home in Europe, a happy family, live debt-free, and - best of all - wake up to a life that I’m EXCITED to live every day.
My mission is to help you conquer your clutter and simplify YOUR way to a happier and better life. HERE'S OUR STORY: atozenlife.com...

I would never pay to an interior designer. You could have just adopted Japanese style.
I wish these videos were crisper and shorter
Your ”new” kitchen is stylish and warm, not old fashioned, not at all!
And I really like to see you wearing the same clothes and using the same cup over and over.
We love the warmth of our new kitchen, too! Hahaha, I definitely wear the same clothes over and over-cozy is best! 🤗
100% agree, I love the kitchen, it's unique and warm.
That kitchen is amazing!
I would love those cabinets! I like white but all white is too much. (I have four different colors of paint in my house but all the trim is white.) I also love the glass mug. I have a tall double-walled glass cup I use for tea at work; I like seeing my drink. (Fun thing to try: make tea in a glass cup, then carefully pour in some milk and don't touch it. It'll settle out into lighter and darker layers (I once got about 4 distinct layers). It's really neat.)
That white top/denim combo is so cute! And the ad is actually a decent service.
Oh my goodness, that sun room is EVERYTHING! 😍
Isn’t it beautiful? Living my best Ghibli life
🤣 🥰
So Ghibli! ❤
That’s a room that sells a house.
Purchasing a stock may seem straightforward, but selecting the correct stock without a proven strategy can be exceedingly challenging. I've been working on expanding my $210K portfolio for a while, and my primary obstacle is the lack of clear entry and exit strategies. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
The strategies are quite rigorous for the regular-Joe. As a matter of fact, they are mostly successfully carried out by pros who have had a great deal of skillset/knowledge to pull such trades off
Even with the right strategies and appropriate assets, investment returns can differ among investors. Recognizing the vital role of experience in investment success is crucial. Personally, I understood this significance and sought guidance from a market analyst, significantly growing my account to nearly a million. Strategically withdrawing profits just before the market correction, I'm now seizing buying opportunities once again.
Impressive gains! how can I get your advisor please, if you dont mind me asking? I could really use a help as of now.
Laura Grace Abels is the licensed fiduciary I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
My needs are kind of unique and complex. I'll contact her nonetheless, and I hope I'm able to make something out of it.
Your channel has been instrumental in changing my mindset about physical possessions! You have helped me finally feel free to let things go.
I’m so happy to hear that, Charissa! 🤗 Cheering you on, as always.
I love your kitchen. It is not old-fashioned, but really classy. So much better than a regular white kitchen. I hope you will get used to it and in the end find yourself loving it.
We do love it! We had a friend over who said the first thing he would do was RIP EVERYTHING out of the kitchen. 😅 No thanks!
@@AtoZenLife are you sure that's a friend? LOL😅
@@Savannah-ed4rv it’s my husband’s best friend…everyone has their own opinions and taste, right? 😉
House have soul ❤️ not like project all house are the same.👍🏻
The last segment about radical responsibility was so moving! That Rumi quote is so inspirational. Thank you for sharing such sensitive information about your life growing up - please know your story is helping others.
Thank you so much for watching and your kind words 🙏
Wow this might be the video that hit me the deepest. I found myself nodding at every piece of advice you were giving us. I know the channel is about minimalism, but I would love to hear you talk more about parenting since I think you are an incredible mom to your kids without seemingly having to choose between parenting and productivity. Bless you guys!
I second this motion, I would also love to hear Marissa talk more about parenting -- her boys seem to get along quite well? How does she do it? It's like a WWE match in my house 😂
Marissa, I love your kitchen. I hope it's growing on you because it really is unique and beautiful. Thanks for all you do.
We love it! 🥰
Deeply appreciate this thoughtful and personal video. We found such freedom several years ago by decluttering and downsizing our lives, but after my second son was born I just did not have the bandwidth to manage the deluge of items coming into our home. It's been weighing on me to re-start my decluttering habit and this was such a gentle but firm kick in the butt. I know you've been struggling yourself with change and I just wanted to share my appreciation for your authentic and down to earth videos. You're truly a gem among content creators and I hope to keep hearing more about your life in Chicago. Thank you!!!
Hi Marissa, From your father you have experienced a life of a collector and how it looks like, and from your experience we are learning how a minimalist’s life looks like. Thank you so much for creating this channel.
I wish I could go back and help him knowing what I know now. 😢 Thanks so much for watching and take care!
I would choose your kitchen over most others, it’s a classic and warm style, you do warm minimalism so well.
Love your new home.
Those 40 year old cabinets are gorgeous.
I just wanted to point out that your new house is looking so lovely. The "outdated" wooden cabinets and doors look so warm and rich with your simple minimalist aesthetic. Love your videos. You are such an inspiration 💓
I must say listening to your video is peaceful. Some people on TH-cam, etc talk way to fast and just listening creates stress or a rushed feeling. I remember a video where I think you said you majored in speech pathology. It paid off bc you speak calmly and measured. Thanks!!
So sorry about your daddy 😔 hate addiction. Dealing with that with my brother, as well, hubs dad ultimately died from drinking for too many years (cirrhosis of liver). Just sad. These are great tips!!! And love that sunroom ☀️ 🌿 beautiful. Peaceful. God bless y’all.
I’m sorry you had to deal with that as well. 😢 Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts 🙏❤️
You are an inspiration, thank you for sharing, when my mother died over a decade ago, my brother and I had so much stuff to clear from her home, after that it made me rethink my life and my approach to our consumerist society, finding your channel is a breath of fresh are and I'm sure will help me in future. All good wishes to you and you family
Thank you for sharing your experience with us and for your kind words and support. 🙏
Loved the slow intro -- inviting. Great content too, thanks!
Thanks again, Marissa.
Love listening to your wisdom here.
What a great video! Thank you for always being open and vulnerable with your audience. I have learned so much from your videos and your Clutter GPS course!
I think that house has been waiting for your family! It beautiful, full of natural light and cozy at the same time. Well worth waiting for! ❤
I would choose your kitchen over most others, it’s a classic and warm style, you do warm minimalism so well.
Marissa, I love your new house, I must say I learn something new
From you all the time, you are an inspiration to the soul❤❤
It's Sunday! Pray I can find a Woman like you:) Your husband is a lucky man!
Oh, thank you! I hope you find the right one as well. 🙏
@@AtoZenLife Good Women are like Gold...hard to find, but when you find'em JACKPOT;)
Marissa you are a favorite of mine! I am trying to be a good steward of the gifts I have been given. This video is such a great reminder to be mindful and responsible in my consumerism! ❤
Thanks so much, Kathryn, that means a lot to me. All the best to you! ❤
Your message about radical responsibility sticks out to me. Though i have not suffered as much, I often feel like i am a jellyfish floating through life. I am working to change that. I can’t wait to see an updated home tour. Your house is such a dream !
Cheering you on as you navigate the path forward! 🪼🙌
Hey Marissa, thank you for sharing the messages in this video. The message about radical responsibility really struck a chord with me after a lifetime of caring for a mentally ill parent, illness & loss. I really related to your jellyfish analogy and although I'm 50, I only realised relatively recently that no one is coming to save me, we need to give ourselves grace but take responsibility for managing our feelings and changing our lives for the better. We can't change the beginning of the story but we can work on making the rest of the chapters of our life as good as they can be ❤️
Thank you for creating such meaningful videos, Marissa. Your content is always spot on. Hope you're enjoying your new house, it looks beautiful! ❤
As someone who battled with addiction (3 years, 5 months and 5 days since my last drink) i totally get it ❤ the thing that hit me the hardest in the video is "no matter how full a house is if the ones living in it feel miserable" i totally was miserable at the end of my phd and am better now. I got rid of a lot of things and feel ways lighter since too ❤ i totally try to prioritise experience rather than purchases now!
i have been folllowing for more than a year now, and as a girl in her early 20's, it has been most instructive. Every video that you share puts out a lil something to learn from that makes my life better. In the recent times I have become more mindful of what I buy, what I consume and what I give to the surroundings. I belevee you have a big role in that. Also, just wanted to mention you resemble your mother a lot :)
Wow, I found this video deeply inspiring in so many ways. I also lost my dad to alcoholism when I was 23. Thank you so much for bravely sharing your heart and your story. ❤❤❤
Great video. I can relate to all of your points made. When one is stuck in the wheel of consumerism, nothing is ever enough… When I finally chose contentment and happiness I started to feel free. 🌸🌸🌸 Love your house by the way! It looks warm and calm 🌾🍂🌾
Your new home is beautiful! Good Luck!
Thank you 🙏☺️
Money is not an issue for me but I envy your empty tables, I am surrounded by thousand of small items that I supposedly need or may need in the future.
Perhaps it’s time for a bit of decluttering?
@@AtoZenLife I've done it, inspired by your videos, two years ago. I threw out 4x 200l trash bags from my single room apartment.
It will be much easier now, last time it took me 4 days to assess each thing.
Great video! Your new home is beautiful!
"In daylights, in sunsets..." Now I've got the song, "525,600 Minutes" stuck in my head, lol. :)
Nice catch…I’ve been singing that all day 😂
@@AtoZenLifeLOVE that!! Me too! Lol
Thank you so much for this one! There should be a required class in schools to counteract all the retail that is constantly stuffed down our throats! The US is too stuff/spend mentality. So again, THANK YOU! ❤🎉❤🎉😊
Than YOU so much for watching 🤗
Love the new home and sunroom. Major Studio Ghibli vibes. 😃
I know this isn't the point of the video, but I love what you did with the sun room! It looks so incredibly calming and cozy. I love it!
I just love and agree with all of this. I wish everyone felt this way. Thank you!
You really outdid yourself with this episode! So informative, enlightening and totally applicable to so many of us at this time. Watching this feels like being thrown a life preserver at a desperate time. Thanks so much for all the thought, research, planning and hard work that you put into this!
I love the subtle nod to Seasons of Love in the intro 😉
Omgosh Marissa you look so much like your mother
You think so? 🥹 I always thought my sister looked more like her, hahaha.
@@AtoZenLife maybe she favors her more but you do too.
Yes! Was going to post this too and wondered if anyone else felt the same!
Love this video ❤
By the way, I love you mug too 😁
Thank you! It was a set of 2...I have one, my husband has the other, hahaha.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. It really touches my heart and your content is so heartfelt. I have similarities in our up bringing❤️I really wish I had this information in my younger days, but that’s OK. It’s never too late to make an change. I hope to pass this to my children and even my family. Have a bless week. 😁❤️🙏❤️
Thanks so much for your kind words and wishing you all the best ❤️🙏
Thank you Marissa for another great video. Very helpful points. I love your new home, and I look forward to seeing more about how you have decorated it.😊
I love watching your videos. I am not even sure how many years I have been watching. Keep them up! I can't wait to see your music stereo video!
Vielen Dank für das großartige Video und die Erinnerung daran, dass wir in unserem Leben sehr viel selbst bewirken können.
I become a minimalist to save to put my son through university. It’s amazing what you can do when you have a goal that matters to you.😊
Love the RENT song lyric reference!
Good catch 😉❤️
Wonderful video! One of my favorites 😊
Thanks so much, Dawn ☺️
Szeretem a csatornádat. Olyan okos gondolatokat fogalmazol meg, amit igyekszem megtanulni és alkalmazni. Egyre több dolgot szeretnék elengedni, te sokat segítesz ebben. 😊
I’m so glad to hear that and I’m cheering 📣 for you on your journey!!
@@AtoZenLife Thank you!
Taking radical responsibility is the key to having a life you enjoy. Better late than never and thanks for the reminder. Also your home is looking great.
The bedroom looks amazing from the photos! I'm so excited for you!
I think some people hold on to things because they have lost so much and it's a way of not losing something because loss hurts so much. That's how it is with my mom.
I learned a long time ago that the more I own, the more I struggle with decision making. As a late diagnosed ADHD girl, I already struggle, so I don't need more choices to make things that much harder.
Plus, the less I have, the less guilty I feel buying something. 😉 It makes purchases even nicer.
You are so intelligent and compassionate. Thanks for sharing with us.
Always appreciate your heart, Marissa! My cousin recently lost her husband to alcoholism (that destroyed his liver) and her daughters are in their late 20s/early 30s, so that has been hard.
The designer service seems cool. I hope you get some good cash from the equipment left behind.
Good advice given in this video
Great video - thank you! The funny thing is, I've been using Cetaphil for a long time and never considered it less effective than more expensive face or body creams.
Same! My husband got me hooked on it 15 years ago…who needs those fancy and $$$ skin creams! 🙌
@@AtoZenLife Absolutely! 🙌
Agree that this is one of your best. Thank you for letting us share in your vulnerability.
LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!!!1 IT OPENED MY EYES
Beautiful message and video thank you!!
I’ve seen outdated wood cabinets- those are not them :)
Thank you Marissa!! ❤ God bless you and your family!
This was excellent.
Phenomenal video! Thanks for sharing your story❤
Great video ❤looking forward to an updated house tour soon 😉🤩
Yes I must also adjust the sails and take ownership
Thank you for the reminder
This was beautiful, thank you.
In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee!
You got it! 🙌
So much wisdom, as always ❤
Very good video. Those opening shots were in some beautiful locations. I would like to know where you were. Looks like a nice place to visit.
Really like the idea of cost-to-joy ratio. I’ve often heard the term cost-benefit analysis, but that’s so technical sounding that it makes the calculation sound purely financial.
Most purchases never produce a return that can be calculated in financial returns. But they either give back or take away in other ways. The question is, beyond that initial rush of buying something new and shiney, what return will this give you? Will it perhaps take more away than it gives?
We should also make sure to ask if a purchase inflicts a cost on others. Remember your family has to live with your purchases too. If things you own are a burden to the people you live with then get rid of those things.
My (soon-to-be) ex-wife is a hoarder, though she won’t admit it. She owned so much clothing and bedding it overflowed our available storage by a factor of ten. (And she blamed me for the mess.) At a certain point I gave up on washing clothing because nothing could be put away. I felt owned by her stuff. It was hard on our daughter too, who seems to be a natural minimalist.
When I left, I left with next to nothing. Very little of what “we” owned had been mine. I brought my music equipment (I’m a musician), my collection Lego minifigures, and my clothing. That was it. And all of my clothing fit in one suitcase. Since then I’ve had to acquire a few things, but I make each purchase only after careful consideration. I buy very little. I’ve actually even further paired down my wardrobe.
I’ve found not having a lot of things to be so freeing. Life is light now.
Love this post, Marissa. Your house is lovely.
Radical responsibility. Yes!!
I sold my house and moved into a motor home, I thought I had decluttered a lot , after a few alterations on the motor home we weighed it and it was 300 Kgs over weight,😱.
I have since taken a heat out including one heavy drawer under the bed and extra cords and hoses and containers from under the bed. 100 kgs lighter, I’m slowly decluttering the interior of the van , 2 kgs of clothes and a bamboo drawer divider going today, I am using up the water and this in total will be another 100 kgs
Amazing room where you drank your tea!
thanks for share your wisdom.
Thanks for watching!
We got rid of about 70% of our stuff. If I was alone, I would have gotten rid of about 90%.
I like the "Rent" reference 😁
Im your new subscriber love your videos
One of your best.
She is cute and smart.
Minimalism really does help to save money.
I think your warm wood kitchen is a timeless style also your clothes look great.
I’d love to know how much you paid for the interior design service!
I am interested in how you sell your items. I have tried to sell several items, but the only replies I received were scams like wanting personal information about me before arranging to get the item or not showing for the pickup. How do you reach actual buyers?
Yes please make a video about this!
I’m having a hard time getting rid of my infants toys. Are do you depart from children toys and memories?

Have you taken Ramit Sethi’s Quiz: what is your rich life?
I have not, but he’s great!
Ok…I know the video titles are meant to be attention grabbing, and I love this channel BUT recently some of the titles just seem a teeny bit pretentious? I’ve personally found them a bit off putting especially in a time when lots of people are struggling. I’m sure the intent is to give advice for how to make better financial choices but the title choices seem a bit out of touch.
It sounds like your dad did not belong to God?. Most people who are constantly trying to fill up their lives with physical things and spending money have a hole in their soul the only Jesus can fill.. everyone needs Jesus❤
Wow
Religion doesn't cure alcoholism. Or any other human failing.
nah
Wow! That's not true at all. and it's really rude to say that to her.
Rude and invasive and pointless
