Wow! I've seen Phil Collins (solo) live twice, but never in Europe. That must have been wicked! I've described this song live as an orchestra of musical fireworks. It resonates on a cellular level. So amazing! I didn't catch this one, but I did see him in Madison Square Garden. The crowd walks out still singing Take Me Home together. It's fantastic.

  • @OriginalLictre

Phil actually went all the way around the stage, coming in on stage left, walking down the stairs, crossing from left to right, climbing stairs on stage right, then crossing back to the left, where his drum set was being raised up, just before he sat down for the drum drop.
Even though the song was played more than an hour into the concert, from what I've read, when he circled the stage in that very measured stride while singing, he was establishing complete dominance of the space.

Being a drummer Phil is one of my all time top favorites for a lot of reasons. One big reason is that Phil is left handed and plays the set reversed, like I do, to how a right handed drummer plays a set. Left foot plays the base drum right foot on the high-hat (Clap cymbal), and the tom-toms start with the smallest on his right side, progressing around to the left with the biggest tom ending around on his far left.

I do air drums everytime no matter where I am. Pounding the steering wheel on my way to work! Or on my school bus. ( When I'm alone on the bus) 🥁🎸🎶🎧🎙️ This song is one of the greatest songs he put out in the 80'sand has climbed the billboard charts every summer. Because radio stations play this kind of music every year so it will continue to climb the charts every year. 40 plus years it's been out and yet it continues to shock everyone who sees the live broadcast from Paris. But please do everyone a favor. DON'T PAUSE THE DRUM SOLO. AFTER YOU SEE IT, THEN BY ALL MEANS BACK IT UP AND LISTEN AND PAUSE IT ALL YOU WANT. BUT THE 1ST TIME WATCH IT THROUGH....🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AN AMAZING!
Such a shame he can't play the drums anymore. But I have heard his son took his place as the drummer and he's is amazing!❤️🥁🎶🎧🎙️❤️

He was 53 years old when he did this concert in Bercy, Paris in 2004. Truly an amazing performance by Brad Cole (keyboards, synthesizers, Vocoder), Daryl Stuermer (6 String Guitar), Leland Sklar (Bass Guitar), Chester Thompson ("Rhythm" Drums) and Phil himself (vocals, drums). It was performed in front of 20,000 + people at the "Palais Omnisport de Paris" and truly was, if not the greatest, close to the greatest live performance ever. It was from his "Finally... The First Farewell" Tour and this particular concert in Bercy started with an amazing "Drums, Drums & More Drums" track performed by Phil and his other drummer, the previously mentioned Mr. Thompson. Incidentally, this track ("In the Air Tonight") was the 17th in the tracklist sandwiched between Separate Lives and Dance Into the Light. Phil had the energy he had in this song all the way through to the end of the concert (as did his musicians). Now that he can no longer drum, his son NIcholas plays drums almost as well as the old man did--literally--Phil is in his 70's now. His son was on the Domino tour with Genesis recently. Oh and of course, his daughter Lily is rapidly becoming a famous actress in her own right. So, he's still doing alright I suppose (tongue in cheek).

Love how the drum kit comes up onto stage . i also read phil had retractable sticks for this performance. All for the drama of the show. Very cool.

That was awesome!!! All 3 of your heads bobbing together brought back so many memories of me and my boys doing the same back in college in 1983, and I still get chills listening to this. 😅

Little known fact. In addition to his huge musical career, Phil Collins is also one of the world's leading Alamo historians and collectors! Only a few years ago, he donated artefacts and documents related to the famous siege and battle to the Alamo museum in San Antonio, Texas!!

Hi guys, I am a new subscriber, but I have grown up listening to Genesis, and Phil Collins after Genesis, but I can honestly say I don't know to many musicians who can top Phil! Of course, there are many great ones out there, but Phil Collins is one of the best. I loved all your reactions to this! I have watched this video many times, and I cannot tell if the drums were under the stage and rose up to the stage level as Phil was making his way toward the drums. Anyway, glad to see the younger generation enjoy the music that us older folks grew up with! Great video!

Remember Phil is classed as a Master Percussionists, 8 grammies, a golden globe 100 million records sold! You can test his drumming skills by watching Phil and Chester Johnson playing drum duet, mind-blowing stuff from 2 of the worlds most famous drummers

65 years of age., everytime I hear this I've taken a trip in time back to the very first time I ever heard it, what I was doing. You can always tell when someone is listening to this in a library or in a bookstore because when they are air drumming you can time it down to the second ., even to the head Bob and singing along in silence.! And when you hear it alone on a rainy night, it really hits hard

The 2 guys, sorry forget your names, were into it. And it's a touching song. I played this live version for at least 100 times, and it's not boring at all. There are a few live performances too from Pink Floyd that I play over and over again. If you experience this kind of brilliant pieces, it grabs you from the start. Never seen guys so quietly through a live concert. That says enough, isn't it? I'm 57 at this moment, so I experienced the publishing of the album on vinyl, and played over and over again. First the A-side, then the B-side. This song doesn't age.
