    This is the highest
    quality trailer I've ever seen. Here in the U.S. I get tired of the cheap forest river trailers. This has so many features that I have never seen before. My favorite part is all the windows. I love it. I would gladly pay the high price.

    I do love the windows expanding the camper, you presented good easons, of choosing this camper, I do think RV manufacturers should not take advantage of people who need smaller campers by pricing it out of reasonable range

    Thanks for a great video. We bought our R1723 in 2020, and have enjoyed many trips so far. I really like your modification to put memory foam atop each cushion and cover with vinyl...I'm going to look into doing same. Currently, we bring two 2" latex foam rolls for sleeping, but your approach is more convenient over the long haul.

    • @DayHikerFromTheSix

      Hi Dave, I have similar question to my previous post... I'd be curious what you pull your R1723 with? Plus then, if you've calculated your "normal everyday" MPGs verses your "trailer pulling" fuel economy MPGs calculated at the pump without relying on the vehicles computer? Thanks!

  • @bencreighton8544

    Thanks very much for this. We have our R1723 on order, due 3rd Q next year! (2024). So we've been on the waitlist nearly 2 years already. We live on the west coast of the US, so if they can no longer ship to Colorado, it may kill the deal for us. (We are just not up for a 6,000 mile round trip drive to pick it up. That's 90 hours of driving!) Otherwise, we are super excited to have this trailer. Your walkthrough and tips are very helpful. Thanks again.

    Totally agree with your reasons for buying it. We bought a used T@B 400 for many of the same reasons as you (just as the pandemic hit DOH!). Our only concern is the tongue weight, as it pushes the upper limit for our vehicle (2016 Kia Sorento V6). One question you may have not seen, and may have answered in a later video, is gas mileage with your Venza.

    • @DayHikerFromTheSix
      @DayHikerFromTheSix  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Best average for a trip is 15.4 l/100 km or 15.3 US mpg (secondary highways/lower speeds), worst is around 19.5 l/100 km or 12 US mpg (freeway/headwind/higher speeds). Average on trip from Toronto to Waterton/Banff/Jasper in the Rockies was 16.4 l/100 km or 14.3 US mpg (which includes a fair bit of driving without the trailer). By far and away the worst gas mileage was in Ontario on the Alberta trip, it was much better in the prairies and mountains.

    • @SydBat
      @SydBat 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DayHikerFromTheSix - That sounds about right for us too. As soon as you hit the flat, less gas is used. Hills are the killer for gas mileage.
      We have been averaging 15 - 17l/100km @100kph because of where we have travelled (Oregon coast, various lakes in Alberta). We have found that going to one of our favourite lakes, which is well into the prairie, takes less gas if we go via the Trans-Canada, as it has less hills than the back roads. Our last trip we were getting about 13l/100km. Still a tough adjustment when your regular highway gas mileage is around 7.5l/100km.

    I love the windows, but I have a logistical question. When is the optimal time to take showers inside your trailer? I’m assuming that you wait until you have the window shades attached and before you remove them in the morning, correct?

    • @DayHikerFromTheSix
      @DayHikerFromTheSix  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends. The new model has a new frame, and it’s taller than ours. We have 15” tires which also add height compared to the 13” tires. Your best approach is to ID the year and options you want, and then you can get the measurements you need. For the brand new model, all specs are on the Safari Condo website, including height with the roof closed and nose lowered.

    Thanks for your work on the videos! 👍 So, I was wondering if you've calculated your "normal everyday" verses your "trailer pulling" fuel economy MPG calculated at the pump without relying on the Toyota Trip Computer? Thanks again ever so much... continued blessings!

    • @DayHikerFromTheSix
      @DayHikerFromTheSix  ปีที่แล้ว

      Normal everyday highway mileage is between 8.7 and 9.5 l/100 km calculated at the pump, depending on speed/wind/terrain. Towing ranges from 14 to 18.8 depending on the same factors. I averaged 16.5 (trip meter number) on a trip out to Banff with the trailer with an average speed of 100 km/h. That was with car and trailer both near max payload. Wind was the main factor changing it from day to day. The trip meter is marginally optimistic…if I get 8.7 on the meter, the pump calculation would be 8.8.

    Do you find it hard to get in your garage? I’ve read people having to switch tires or severely deflate the tires to get it in.
    Also, would you still get the shower and toilet with what you know now? Showering primarily in campground bathrooms etc.

    • @DayHikerFromTheSix
      @DayHikerFromTheSix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we have to switch to smaller rims & tires (I'm going to buy them this fall) or run the Michelins completely flat to roll it into the garage, and the tongue has to sit on a low profile floor jack. But our garage door has a bit of sag and the opening is smaller than standard. I think in a newer, more standard sized garage it wouldn't be so challenging.

      We bought our Alto during Covid and we chose this model with the toilet/shower option mainly because of it, but yes we would still choose it.

  • @billlazzaro1401
    @billlazzaro1401 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Altos do tend to hold they are value better than most travel trailers. However, as of the summer 2023, used Altos may be listed with the hope of recovering the original cost, but they are not selling at that price. Frenzied Alto buying fever is a thing of the past. Buyers seeking used Alto expect to pay a lower price due to reasonable depreciation. Sellers seeking to recoup their original costs or to make a profit are only deluding themselves in the current market. This is in keeping with the general decline in RV sales in the US today. New RV sales are down 50% in the United States. That number is 65% in Canada. All RV sales have declined, whether used or new. Prices have followed suit.

    • @DayHikerFromTheSix
      @DayHikerFromTheSix  ปีที่แล้ว

      Resale values are still strong, but definitely not what they were through the height of Covid. I still think it’s in the plus column compared to buying a cheaper metal skin, rubber roof, commodity trailer. But the financial equation works for us due to savings on the tow vehicle, the convenience of storing it at home, and yes-from less of a hit on depreciation.

    • @billlazzaro1401
      @billlazzaro1401 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DayHikerFromTheSix I agree. Overall, Alto ownership has cost less than a traditional trailer ownership due to much a lower depreciation rate.
