    • @PlayingwithSticks
      @PlayingwithSticks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Mold is a problem on all canvas used in trailers if not maintain properly. You can check out our videos we take out my fathers pop-up camper that is almost 50 years old. We used it growing up extensively, it has no mold and almost looks new. It really is about ensuring you don’t store the camper when the canvas is wet. So the pop-up camper this is kind of annoying because when you get home you have to pop it up again to let it dry out if it rained the day you collapsed camp. But with a little meerkat pop that up just takes seconds.

      You can get a Micro Minnie for less or the same depending on the model. Please don't try to justify this inflated pricing. Yes, the rectangle shape would be beneficial. As for deeper most of these trailers have pretty shallow sinks. For the feature set, that trailer shouldn't be more than 10k for the starting price, 12k at most. But when compared to the teardrop from the same company with all the amenities outside, I can see where the 23k comes from. Thank you so much for this video. We have been thinking about buying a camper for a while. And nothing was quite right. The Meerkat trailer fit the bill. It is so cute. My husband is 6ft 4, we have a Honda CR-V where I believe the towing capacity is about 12-1500, and we wanted to keep the trailer in our garage.. After seeing your video, and reading every comment on this blog about the video and the trailer, I called Sean at Little Guy Trailers and ordered one. The only sad part is we will not get it until next year! I had been considering getting a Cassita or Scamp but my husband can’t stand up in them and that didn’t seem fair. We are not yet retired so we will likely only be able to get out on weekends and for a week or so at a time. For now we will likely stay at KOA, visit friends. Around the country. or other such places. Thanks for letting us know that air conditioning was an option as it does not show up on the website. They are installing a zero breeze unit. It is very humid in the summer here, so we will sleep more comfortably if we can cool things off some. The thing I like about the MeerKat is the compact size combined with component and build quality. I want a small camper, but I have found the “smaller” versions are usually the lowest priced “value” campers that cut so many quality and feature corners they are just junk for anyone except the most casual of users. The MeerKat has done a good job with good quality components in a nice compact size. That price buys a few other quality standup campers in that size range (just a few), but with slightly different characteristics. So then the question is which attributes are the most important.

    • @PlayingwithSticks
      @PlayingwithSticks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

But the Meerkat...Every one I inspected which was quite a few coming through the shop all were in immaculate condition. And no giant trim pieces hiding potential areas of concern for leaks. I also really liked that they used a 1 piece fiberglass roof which was a feature I forgot to add to the video.

Sleeping in something bigger also makes you feel more secure.
      Looks like a perfect size and weight for many novices who want to go out and get away easily, without buying a bigger car, s.u.v., or truck/spend a lot more money to pull and store a trailer.Without looking, does this company offer a heavier, four-season model with molded fiberglass, and a beefed up suspension to go with the added weight. @@luvyesmusici4886 Yes, the Scamp is a great fit for most of us. If we could just get it to fit in a standard garage without airing down the tires or removing the rims from the axles it would check all the boxes. Well, I guess it is a little on the heavy side for a 4 cylinder vehicle. But other than that, pretty great little trailers! And no, the Meerkat is the only trailer they make like this. They do make a smaller teardrop trailer as well.

    What I like is that it's light, small, fits in a garage, looks great inside and out, looks quality, and love the non leaf spring suspension and tongue weight of only 100lbs. What I really don't like is... 1. NO dry bath/gray tank for shower. 2. SILLY cheap toilet, at the very least should have a cassette toilet. Not even a curtain around it. 3. COMMON!!! No 2 burner stove or microwave??. That isn't a kitchen. WHERE is the PROPANE??. The little one burner propane thing in the drawer won't cut it at all. 4. NO AIR CONDITIONER??, even my 75 VW camper had a fan and air conditioning. 5. This is a half baked camper. Although the teardrop won't fit in a garage it's a complete camper and feels like one. If the price of this camper was around $12000-14000 it might make some sense but it lacks way too much to make up for its ridiculous $23000 price tag. The teardrop isn't much more so thats really a no brainer. I wish you luck but please rethink it's over simplicity vs. very steep price.

    • @PlayingwithSticks
      @PlayingwithSticks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We love your breakdown here. We were hoping more folks shared there thoughts like you. The big one that surprised us was the 2 burner stove. In previous year's models they had the stove built into the countertop. They said they removed it because the builder created the trailer to meet his family's needs. And they liked to have the cooking inside and out. Me too, but I would still like a stationary burner for that morning coffee. AC can be an option. They hide it in the tongue box. And yes, $12,000 we wouldn't think twice about picking one up. Thanks again for sharing.

We don't need a bathroom, or a kitchen, or even a sink. But the two things we realize our family needs/wants are a separate table and bed area and having a heater that is vented to the outside. Too expensive but, for that price... It could improve and without adding an extra cost. 1.- The tow bar is too long. One foot must be trimmed. The tow bar is designed long cuz it is thought to aid in turns, but it does NOT help, on the contrary, it gets in the way. 2.- The battery box must be four inches higher; four inches longer and four inches wider; the battery is placed below and the upper part is divided for storage or to put the tool box. 3.- The side windows and the rear window are very large; if they were cut in half it would be better and safer. Safety is important. 4.- It should be fitted with a hollow and square tube rear fender that can also be used to store a fishing rod. 5.- The entrance door must have three hinges. Lastly, it should include a microwave oven.

    I agree on the price, undoubtedly high, and even in Europe the Eriba have always been expensive by virtue of their aluminum body. To consider that they are really robust and durable and it is not difficult to find specimens of 50-60 and more years and I see some of your teardops are more expensive (see Bean trailers, for example). I would say that the yardstick is with your Airstream, which are also very valuable. I would add that for some time the Puck - from which this Meerkat derives - has not been in production for some time together with other super-compact models due the high costs (moreover in Italy campsites are expensive and in the end it has become more comfortable and convenient to go to hotel). And it's a shame because I really like this Meerkat and I prefer it to your teardrops (no offense but in case of rain I would find it annoying to have to get up, get dressed in some way to go out to prepare breakfast and have to eat out somehow).

And yes, that logo definitely jumps out. But, when we were there we saw folks picking up trailers with no logos. Little Guy is okay with you customizing the trailer however you like, even if that means removing the logo. One family made theirs silver with no logo. They went to a National Park that was familiar with seeing Airstreams everyday and the camp host said to them "I didn't know they made an airstream that small." 😆

      And yes, the making of the bed each night can be a bummer. That is something that drives our family crazy on week long trips where we are stopping somewhere different every day. As for insulation I can't remember what they used. But they were very proud of it. I do remember that. We have had a couple of comments on this video from Meerkat owners who have said the insulation is great. Insulation is a big deal both for that AC and for a heater. Our vintage trailer we decided to leave the original insulation due to lack of time. Boy was that a bad mistake. Fall camping in that felt like mid-winter camping in our teardrop.

And as for AC are you talking electricity or Air Con. If aircon we have had multiple Meerkat owners in this comment section say that they have an air conditioner on theirs. The folks at Little Guy said they are hidden inside the tongue box when installed. Yes, a beefed up version of this trailer for 4x4 would be awesome.
