Pumping Bilges, Parker 2520 XLD

- The only way rain water, and heavy seas water gets into the far aft bilge, is through the hole in the bow where the anchor rode feeds into the rode locker under the windlass. Parker does not have an anchor-rode locker drain, and instead runs the water all the way through the boats bilges. It would make more sense to extract the water at the bow!
Hello Andrew,
It’s nice to see some new content from you, thank you for sharing.
Having water in the bilge after rain is the only thing I can say that I dislike about my 2520XL. One of these days I’m going to have to install a raised floor in the anchor locker and drill and install a clamshell overboard drain.
Hi John, good to hear from you! You and I are on the same page. I love our Parker, but I don't like having water migrating from the anchor locker to the aft bilge; it's simply poor design. There's been some discussion about this over at ClassicParker and a couple people have done what you've suggested with raising the floor and adding some sort of drain. I like your idea with the clam-shell to cover the drain hole, in fact our past two boats had that. One recent post at ClassicParker where he raised the locker floor, showed a large bronze fitting for the hole, and no clam shell. I'm afraid that would allow water into the locker when the boats moving. A properly faced clam-shell will keep the water out... I too have this 'project' on my to-do-list.... I hope I live long enough to get it done! ☺
Hello cap. and that is erritating to have to do that ,hopefully you can find a better solution, liked your post 👍⚓️
Hi Capt... good to hear from you... I'm looking forward to seeing your next adventure!
Good video capt, always interested in you’re videos
Hi Happyfish, thank you for watching, and thank you for the kind words!
My gosh it’s been so long I’ve been shaking waiting on your videos
Hi Larry, thanks for watching! I've made a lot of videos the past few months, then after reviewing them decide not to post them... As is obvious, I do no editing so when I review a video that is riddled with mistakes and 'speech-mumbles' I usually delete it.... You had me laughing with your 'shaking' comment! ☺
I got leaks in my decks . And it's a wood boat. So it's a lot of work getting water out between the ribs
Hi Walter, thanks for watching. Water 'inside' the boat is never a good thing especially with wood boats!
@@andrewfyakim525 she's solid . Last summer it out of the water for 2 weeks when I did the bottom paint and prop . Went back in the water with no leaks from drying out .
But it's those kinda 2 week work in the sun in a parking lot that really gets me admiring fiberglass hulls !
@@walterdavis4808 In 1968 my brother bought an 18' wood boat. I was 15, he was 17. After spending a week stuffing the gaps/cracks between the planks, we took the boat (on a rusty home-made trailer) down to the banks of the Allegheny River and slipped it into the water. In minutes, it filled with water, and sank. That's how we learned about the need to slowly 'acclimate' a wood hull, to allow the planks to swell, and seal the bottom! That was our first boat, and there have been dozens of boats in 'the family' since then... By the way, I am the newest Sub to your channel; love your farm! Especially the red barn.
@@andrewfyakim525 thanks ! Any video that says lazy lady is about the boat . The farm is my mother's . I don't know it's fate when she's gone . But it's a good amount of fun and work . Kinda like an old wood boat
@@walterdavis4808 Hi Walter, I've now watched some of your videos on Lazy Lady.... awesome boat! It's huge!
